This place should be avoided like the plague. Myself, and two other friends drove down there the other day to check the place out and do some shooting.
First off, they had a decent selection of rentable firearms. Too bad they slacked off on routine maintenance. Every gun we tried jammed several times. Especially their Colt 1911 : (
Here comes the nasty part. This place is horribly over priced! Seriously, it's ridiculous. $20/ person range fees! Almost $70 for 250 rounds of .9mm ammunition!
When we first entered the range there was only two people shooting in two different lanes. Except for two lanes the rest of the had crappy notebook paper targets up. So we took the two open lanes and my friend took one of the lanes with a notebook paper target and replaced the target with one of his own. We shot for about an hour. Then some chubby hairy armed goon wearing a sweaty red tank top walks up to my buddy while he's shooting and says, "hey, you took my lane!" We all looked at him, then looked at all the open lanes. My friend and former Marine, said to him in a sincere tone, "Sorry about that sir, I'll be happy to buy you another target. I didn't realize that all of these lanes were yours." The guy got all pissed off and stormed off like a two year old who just got his blanket taken away. Keep in mind there are still 8 open lanes. Anyway, we didn't think anything of it. We finished off all our ammo, and headed back to the counter to return the rentals. The 350lb toothless clerk, smelling of old cheese and tobacco, says, "So you guys are the lane thieves." We all looked at each other with bamboozled expressions. My friend the "lane thief" looked at the clerk and said, "First off we didn't know that it was anyone's lane, second, I apologized and offered to buy him a fresh target, third, why is this guy allowed to reserve so many lanes then disappear for hours. That's not right." Puddle of goo clerk responds, "He can do whatever he wants here, spends $15K a month here." What kind of psychotic loser spends 15K a month at a gun range? The clerk was clearly lying. I suspect that the clerk and gun nut might have had some more than just friends relationship? Anyway, before my Marine friend almost exploded from rage, we got him out of the store.
Bottom line, we didn't drop 15k there, but we did spend well over $200. Which is still a good amount of money for an hour and a half of shooting. We will never go back to this outdated hillbilly shack. Instead we will continue to go to Illinois Gun Works and Maxon where they appreciate all incoming business.
