I came here for my live ammunition training for my CCL class. My experience here was great. Our instructor is very familiar with the staff here which made it more relaxing for the class. Yes, the range is in the lower level of the facility. This was my first visit, however I will return soon to practice before I make my purchase. I went into the store this afternoon in hopes of looking at a shotgun to add to my collection. My wife doesn't have a foid card so she not I were allowed to handle any firearms. Mind you I have a ccl and valid foid. However, since my wife doesn't have one he would allow me to handle a firearm. He then began to go on a tirade about California gun laws and how it works out there and I literally just moved from California 4 months ago. I then asked about I firearm I say on the site he then says "we have 3000 firearms on the website so why would we have all of them here." At that point my wife was beyond offended and stated that she wanted to leave. So we left. read more

I visited Deb's Gun Range this past Saturday and it was a very decent shooting range. There are only about 6 booths, but the area is spacious and well maintained. Unfortunately, my party complained about the air quality, and the stairs to the range are very steep. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. I had a good experience here. read more

The staff were quite friendly and helpful, and clearly explained the rules of the range. I'm not sure how much my box of 100 rounds of .22 LR ammo was, but the total bill was $30 for two people, 100 rounds, and 5 targets. Not too bad, I guess. But the ammo they sold me was dirty, dirty, dirty. The range was dirty as well, not well-lit, and did not seem to be well-ventilated. Thanks for making me breathe all the smoke. I was less than impressed when I started asking questions about the firearms for sale. The guy behind the counter confessed that he didn't know much, but when I asked about the price for the .32 H&R Magnum ammunition the gun I was looking at would take, he quoted me the price for .32 ACP. Come on. If you don't know, ask someone who does. I suspect they don't stock .32 H&R Magnum at Deb's and they're not interested in ordering it for me. If that's the case, just say so. Then I looked at some other revolvers, which were handed to me without opening the cylinder to make sure they were empty. Really? Then I asked for a price on a gun they did not have behind the case, and the first guy who was helping me had no idea how to look up a price. He called over the other guy behind the counter, and he took a ballpark guess at the price of the gun I was asking about. Then he got out a book, looked up the list price, and confirmed that his guess was about right, in the most flip way possible. There was no discount off list price. Really? Almost every dealer discounts off list, especially for a small-caliber production single action revolver. I guess I'm easily mistaken for a sucker since I'm from Chicago and look like I have money. read more

Soooooo, my first time EVER shooting a gun, let alone holding one, was September 29th, 2018. I was beyond scared and freaked out by the sounds of the shots. With the help of the group I went with and the staff, specifically, Tom, I left feeling like a pro and conquered my fear of guns. Tom was very thorough with explaining how to load and unload my gun, proper handling of the gun and form for shooting. He also helped my sister with tips on improving her shots in order to pass state qualifications. Its an unassuming place that's small but gets the job done. I don't have a point of comparison as I've never been to a gun range before, but this place is perfect for a novice or even the more experienced shooter. The staff is uber professional, knowledgeable and serious about safety. They are no nonsense when it comes to following the rules and calling out unacceptable behavior. I'm for sure going back and definitely recommend this place as top choice to practice. read more

Hello everyone. Pros: I have gone to this gun range around 4 times within the last two years. Their prices are reasonable and it's not as crowded during the week. The staff is friendly, professional, patient, and helpful. It's also conveniently located if you want to go to a gun range outside of IL. Cons: It's small downstairs in the range. I believe there are six shooting booths. When the range is filled or even halfway filled with people shooting, the room becomes highly inundated with gun smoke. I raised some concern about this. One worker told me during my first or second visit back in 2015 or 2016 that they've a ventilating system to pull the excessive gun smoke out. It wasn't that bad because the room was about half emptied. So okay. Fast forward to Jan 2018. The shooting booths were all filled and wow the basement was loaded with gunpowder! I saw one of the workers put on what looked like one of those gas masks before going down there to clean up the spent shells. Conclusions: Debs Guns in Hammond, IN need to install a more powerful or effective ventilation system, or add some portable ones down their to clean the tainted air. Or give out gas masks. Or maybe shooters or people watching their family or friends shooting should wear a special mask. The cheaper the ammo that people are using to shooting, the more gunpowder that would be outputted in the air after firing their weapons. FYI: you have to be careful, because of the lead. So if you are a lady who is in your childbearing years, 21-40, you may want to make sure to wear protective old clothing, long sleeves shirt and a t-shirt under it, pants, mask, and everyone, males and females should wash and rinse their arms, hands, inner nostrils, hair with cold water, including your face a (few times) because you will have an abundance of lead/gunpowder on you! Lead as many of you may know can cause irreversible brain damaged, especially to fetuses, babies, and kids under 6 years old according to Mayo clinic. Wear a cap or wrap your hair up in a scarf or something. Don't hug or carry babies, kids, teens, or young adult females until you at least rinse yourself off a (few times) with cold water and change your clothes and shoes that you were wearing. Put them in a plastic bag and tie it up until you can clean them. The reason why you initially use cold water is because if you use hot or warm water, your skin pores will open wider, thus allowing more lead to enter your body. You can't shoot if you are under 21. Bring extra clothes and shoes to change someplace because you will have tons of lead on your shirt, pants, and under your shoes. Educate others. Learn about other places in which you can get high levels of lead. Occupations. People are exposed to lead and can bring it home on their clothes when they work in auto repair, mining, pipe fitting, battery manufacturing, painting, construction and certain other fields (mayoclinic.org). You wouldn't know it from the outside, but this is a very nice range. When you first walk in you are greeted by exceptionally friendly staff. They are very knowledgeable and always willing to offer advice on how to be a better shot. The range is small but recently remodeled. In the past,my only complaint was the poor lighting but that had been addressed. The prices are very reasonable as well. I highly recommend this place. read more

A quick and to the point pistol range with small gun shop attached. Rates are fair and worth it. The gentleman I spoke with the most was polite, courteous, and helpful. Ammo prices are still high, but that's the Democratic president for you. Still, they don't gouge like a lot of other places. A small, typical selection of Glocks, Springfield XDs, and other novelty firearms showed prices that were surprisingly modest compared to other shops I've seen on the Illinois side. The range itself consists of 8-10 narrow stalls with motorized target hangers. Apparently rapid fire is allowed, which is neat for the first 5 minutes or so of listening to it. My only gripe is that the target areas are not well lit at all, and it's just plain hard to see what you're shooting at with much detail. Definitely worth a visit if you're within 30 minutes or so. These guys are jerks!!! I bought 5 or 6 firearms from them this past year. Went in there today with a problem on my receipt of a firearm I just recently purchased in which their employee screwed up on and was treated sarcastically by the narcissistically rude employee who had just opened up the store. With all money I've spent with them you figure you would get some quality customer service out of them, however, it was just the opposite. Just a heads up to those who are coming there for the first time, their range is old and the cubicles are small, you're not allowed to rapid fire, shoot rifle or shotgun calibers only pistol calibers, and it's only one shot every one one thousandth of a second or something to that effect, the employees are uptight and make you feel uncomfortable and a few of them act like arrogant know it alls, didn't matter how many times I have been there nor how much I've spent with them I've been treated like a brand new customer every time I come in there and never once having been treated like a valued customer or even being recognized for having been in there plenty of times before! After retrieving my latest purchase I will be taking my business elsewhere. read more

Walked in and employee behind counter was waving gun around. Then they came out in front of counter doing the same. Did not understand how not to point a gun. It's amateur hour at Debs and dangerous. A good shooting range and gun shop in NW indiana! I came here for my first ever shooting experiance and I was defenitely happy with everything. The staff was great and proffesoinal, and the prices are definitely fair and very worth it. It can be busy at times but is overall a great experiance. This place is by far my favorite place to practice. The facility is nice and clean. The staff is extremely helpful and polite. The other individuals that practice side by side are also friendly. I don't remember the name of the two gentleman that assisted me, I believe one was Brian (I could be wrong). Both guys were great and the younger of the two gave me a clear tutorial on the gun I rented for the range. The were able to answer my questions on three different gun models and I will use their range again. Note: The range wasn't super well lit, but my range experience is limited. At first staff was friendly. When it came time to go down stairs and shoot, its like they flipped a switch. On the weekend their is a 30 min time limit, if there is a wait. I went with another person, so we each had a lane. About ten mins in an employee approached me and told me if me and my partner go down to one lane he would extend our time. This did not happen. Another employee approched me 25 mins in and told us we had 5 more mins. I informed him that we were told by dropping to one lane we would receive extra time. He did not want to hear it. He was very rude. I was also told i could not take head shots on my paper target and was accused of fraying a cable on the lines that transfer the targets. The place was also very dim ans the ventilation was horrible. If your looking for a good range, try blythes. P.S. I only gave them one star because i had to. read more

I've been to Debs many times now. They are always friendly, knowledgeable and overall good people. Range fees are very fair. Prices for firearms always seem reasonable, and this place is locally owned so I'd rather buy from them then the large store just down the Interstate from them. The range goes out to 50 feet, so it's not the longest one, but it's convenient and since they updated the lighting and did some tile work it's even more pleasant. They do tend to get pretty busy during peak times (weekends, cold days) so I'd recommend trying to get there early on a weekday if you want to avoid any sort of wait. If you don't mind waiting there are loads of colorful regulars and employees. I've had fun even before getting on the range. read more

Ok, late review but I need to say it. I have been looking for another indoor range that isn't as expensive as Blythe's. My wife and I decided to try Debs. After waiting nearly an hour and listening to the conversation of an inexperienced 20 something guy who brought his two non-shooter female friends to the range, we were getting a little nervous about being on the range with them at the same time. They were called for a lane ahead us and the salesman was talking to them about rental guns. He set one on the counter for the girl to pick up. When she did she proceeded to point it squarely at his chest. He never said a word about it. Never corrected her or advised her of proper gun safety. This is pretty basic and if she does it at the counter without correction there is nothing to stop her with a loaded gun on the range. We left and haven't been back since. read more

Went to Debs for the first time and the staff is awesome, very helpful and friendly. Rates are decent and ammo costs are average. It's your typical gun range but at least you can fire magnum rounds unlike other ranges in the area. I've been to other ranges in the area and debs is the best by far.
