My mom and I both visited Midway Optometry for a standard eye exam. We were greeted warmly upon arrival, and our separate appointments started on time. I went first, and I was pleased to do six different eye tests on six different machines before having to jump into a chair to read a letter chart off the wall. These tests were very interesting to experience, and the data they collected were thorough, not to mention quite important for tracking one's eye health. Amongst other things, I learned that I had extremely dry eyes -- something that no other optometrist had brought to my attention before. Luckily, Dr. Matthews explained what was causing the dryness (probably too much screentime) and showed me a nifty trick using a hot compress and a gentle massage to loosen up my blocked eye glands. Needless to say, I found Dr. Matthews to be very knowledgeable and more importantly, very easy to talk to. He was patient when I kept asking one question after another, and he explained why he was writing a new prescription for me in order to help me better understand my own "eye situation. It was clear that he valued educating his patients, and truthfully, I felt far more "in the know" after my session with Dr. Matthews. Good news... Midway Optometry has been sold, and is now owned and operated by Michael Matthews, OD. My wife and I really liked Dr. Prince, but we did experience the same problems as everyone else with getting our orders filled correctly and promptly by the previous staff. Earlier today I called for an eye exam, and I got an appointment for the same day :) The eye exam itself was very thorough, and Dr. Matthews is fantastic. He is very experienced and professional, and extremely pleasant and personable. As much as we had liked Dr. Prince, I felt like my eyes got more attention and I was given a concise explanation of what my eyes are doing that necessitates corrective lenses. Dr. Matthews also explained what the options are, and how they relate to my needs at work. Right now (through November?) they have a promotion where lenses are being upgraded to Zeiss, which is top-of-the-line. I'm told that with progressive lenses, the difference in (Zeiss) quality is visible. I'm looking forward to finding out. I'll update this when I get them. If you've had a bad experience here before, I think it's safe to give Midway Optometry another chance now :) I was very happy. read more

Dr Matthews is fantastic! I wanted to get a second opinion for my two year old daughter, who has an astigmatism. He did a very thorough check and I did not feel rushed at all. Plus, he explained how the eye works and what was happening with my daughter, and then re-explained it until I understood clearly. His prices are incredibly reasonable; I paid cash because we don't have vision insurance. He and Dawn are very personable and friendly and my daughter was completely comfortable in the office. I just got a great vibe and felt completely confident in him; he obviously has tons of experience and is also good with kids. Dishonest staff and Dr. exhibited poor morale character, treats customers horribly, won't return phone calls! Can't get a call back after promises. Dr also cancelled my appointment and posted a security guard at her door to prevent me from entering her office once she discovered I was coming in to complain to get a refund after nearly four months of attempting to properly produce my lenses. Dr Prince is an ostrich hiding her head in the sand instead of standing up to serve her clients best interests and resolve issues professionally. Do not go to this hostile amateur. Very disappointing! I am out hundreds of dollars still trying to get my money back. Looks like filing a lawsuit will be my only recourse. read more

Dr. Matthews and his staff explained each test and the vision process. I imagine they do this countless times a day, but it felt like it was unique to me. A very different experience than I've experienced in the past. Vision seems more of an art than a science, and they were very flexible on how I wanted to proceed with contacts to improve my vision.
