Really disappointed with my visit. As someone actually from Chicago, I had high expectations for a proper Chicago-style dog -- but this one fell flat. The bun was stale and hard, and it literally broke in half while I was eating. Service didn't help either. One of the guys working (Cowboys jersey) seemed checked out and was pretty rude, like he didn't want to be there. Expected a lot more from this spot. Won't be rushing back. read more

Thank you so much Mrs Bonita for bringing the taste of HOME to Austin. I've just stuffed a Wet Beef, a Dog, a Pizza Puff, and a sack of Fries and now I need a nap lol. Food was MOUTH WATERING EXCELLENCE, the service was WONDERFUL also with missing home Mrs Bonita make you feel apart of the family. I just want to say THANK YOU for the GREAT CONVERSATION and the DELICIOUSNESS of the flavors that I've been lacking in my life. This place HANDS DOWN IS 10 OUT OF 10 to try at least once read more

Order a Chicago dog to go one mid Sunday afternoon. Had been craving a delicious, plump, juicy hot dog but that was not to be. The hot dog looked and tasted dry AF. Bun wasn't that great either, kinda dry too. Topping were fresh but didn't save this poor dog. I had such high expectations but I guess they were misplaced. Their saving grace were the fries which were pretty crispy and tasty. Maybe it was an off day, IDFK. But how can you have an off day with hot dogs? For $8+, there's probably better out there. read more

I was really craving a hotdog and my google search lead me here to Midway Dogs. I have to say it's not easy to find. In the same area as spicy boys but hidden by the volleyball court(had no idea that was there) on some grovel land. It was one of 2 trucks there and I got the Chicago hotdog with some tots. Firstly the tots are amazing I would come back just for that alone! The hotdog was really good as well, my only issue is the bun itself. It's not thick or sturdy enough to hold everything so once I held it in my hands it immediately started to break apart. With a better bun this would be amazing. Nevertheless I will be back because the service was amazing and I enjoyed my meal! read more

Native Texan, but spent 7 years in Chicago, where I fell in love with the Italian Beef sandwich. If you know what I'm talking about, you need to have the most authentic one of these at Midway Dogs. Absolutely perfect...and Betina is a sweetheart, too. Her trailer is in the back of Back Wood on Menchaca. Go there, get some! read more

Midway Dogs is worth the stop. You're getting excellent service and authentic Chicago style hot dogs and Italian beef. We're probably eating here 2-3 times a week rotating around the menu. Visiting the dog park, staying for good eats. She makes her ranch dressing from scratch, with crispy fried pickles. Fresh Chicago dog ingredients and a hot dog packed with flavor and quality. Get the Italian beef with all the fixings. TRUST ME. read more

I've had Midway Dogs on the "try" list for a while now. First time I visited it was bad timing on my part-the day they moved from Moontower to The Yard-and of course they were closed. I visited today though and they were fully operational. The proprietor is very friendly and helpful, and the menu has more than just Chicago hot dogs including Italian beef, Polish dogs, pizza puffs, chili dogs, and other selections. We ordered Chicago hot dogs and Italian beef. The hot dogs came with brown beach-style mustard, which is a non-starter for me-tradition dictates yellow mustard. The other requisite ingredients (dill spear, tomato slices, green relish, onions, sport peppers) were all present however. The Vienna wiener appeared to be grilled rather than boiled. The flavor overall wasn't bad but just not a Chicago dog. The Italian beef had a generous portion of roast beef lightly cooked in their flavorful au jus. The au jus is the key to this sandwich with the Italian spices permeating the juice. It came on a roll that was very close to a Turano style topped with hot giardiniera. However, sweet peppers were not available which is a bummer. They are also traditional and not hard to make-sliced green bell peppers briefly simmered in the au jus to soften them and soak up more flavor. Another annoyance here is that there were no fries. They are on the online menu but at the truck we could only order tater tots-it may be a recent change, not sure if it's permanent. You gotta have fries with dogs or Italian beef. These criticisms all may sound like nitpicks but if you're going to represent Chicago, it has to be done right. The food is tasty, but just misses the mark for me though. read more

After trying the food on Friday afternoon we decided to get more. Problems: no parking on Saturday night. Problem: yelp said closed Monday and Tuesday Problem: Based our Wednesday around picking up lunch. Yelp said open noon til 8 pm! WRONG. Problem: Had to walk inside and through the bar to discover it was closed. No hours posted on the food truck! Problem: Had to watch a slide show inside the bar to see it quickly flash the midway food truck hours! Totally different than yelp AND impossible to memorize or snap a picture. My son was furious we wasted our time and effort for days over this food venue. I will not be doing it again. You are DISRESPECTFUL to your customers. read more

The owner was so friendly, it was fun to talk about our former home of Chicago. She knows how to cook up some excellent Chicago dogs & fries!! I was so excited to find a place that offered vegetarian Chicago dogs! I have already told multiple groups of friends to stop by. Plus they are currently sharing a yard with Fierce Whiskers, so you can get an excellent whiskey when you're done. Big yard to run around in & play a game of bags. They have a few picnic tables out, or you can eat inside at Fierce. read more

Bonita is the REAL DEAL! growing up in Chicago Chicago, the most glorious thing 1 could eat, is an Italian beef sandwich, followed closely by a proper Chicago dog. Was thrilled to find a food truck in the Saint Elmo district offering authentic versions of both. The beef is a generous portion, and perfectly seasoned. The giardiniera condiment is key. The chicago dog was on point though I do miss the poppyseed bun. Super friendly Service. I can't wait to come back and try the pizza puffs. read more

The Polish Dog - Chicago style was Glorious!! I have high expectations in general when it comes to my Hot Dogs...plus I had never had a Chicago style before and this particular one did not disappoint!! In my opinion it was better than the regular dog. I'd definitely get the Polish Dog any day of the week! The Chili Cheese Dog on the other hand was a Huge Let Down...it Sucked!!! The chili itself was like eating Nothing. No flavor. It was brown...that's about all I can say about it. Perhaps others like but I'll never recommend it to anyone. read more

Terribly dry and stale bread for the Italian beef. The hot dog was ok but there sandwich was pretty bad.

Benita was incredible. She is so kind and needs her own resteraunt! We got the polish hot dog--best one i've ever had. Highly recommend this place, 12/10. She was so nice and gave us extra fries that she had already made. The seasonings and flavor were so worth it and I will be definitely coming back to try her corn dogs. Wow. I'm speechless read more

I'll call this review "How do I compare thee" lol... Originally I hale from East Los Angeles "Boyle Heights" and recently moved to Texas near the Austin area. And I'm trying to compare the TexMex style with the traditional ELA food, it's not easy. However, today we came to this Gem of a spot that has 7-8 food trucks and a Hair salon trailer yup you read right a hair salon on wheels. Now back to my food lol, I ate 2 chili dogs that damn near close to " Chronis Hotdog" in you guessed it ELA.. The chili dog was on point actually both of them on point lol. And the chili cheese fries were just as good nothing to complain about. If I did have a complaint again if I did it'll be the dogs didn't snap when you bite into them but on my scale 1-10 I'll give these dogs a solid 8. For bringing me back to ELA through these chili dogs I'll give them a solid 10, as we all know things taste better when your at the spot.. I sent this picture to my family and haha my youngest daughter asked to bring her one home. Well guess what we'll be back tomorrow we'll for her, as I saw a tamale truck that grab my attention. Guess there's another review coming mañana. I'll be that regular that keeps coming back, see you soon... read more

This review is solely based on price. $20+tip for 2 chili cheese dogs that have nothing fancy about them. It's the cheapest ingredients they could buy from Walmart. Of course it tastes decent, but it's not 'restaurant quality' that $9 per hot dog would get you. $9!!! Crazy read more

Even though I like this place, I doubt I'll be back because of a disturbing incident with the man who guards the parking lot at Moontower, where this food truck is located. They charge to park there, but they usually don't if you're just coming in to get something from one of the food trucks. I've probably come here half a dozen times, explained to this man that I'm just here to get some food to go, and he lets me through (you would think he would even remember me by now). I don't even eat the food there or linger. I just get my food and go. Today the man was not at his post, so I drove on in and parked. It was early in the day, and I thought maybe they didn't charge until the evening or something. Well, as I'm walking to the food truck, this man gets in my face and starts berating me for not paying to park. I explained that I was only here to get some food and leave, and, besides, there was no one there to take parking money. But he wasn't having it. He continued to berate me for I don't know how long, and at one point he implied he was going to get physical with me. It was upsetting, to say the least. Here I am, just trying to do business with some people I've done business with before in the same manner I've done before, and I'm being attacked and treated like a criminal by some douchebag who probably flunked out of the police academy. I realize parking is a premium in Austin, but this place isn't even downtown, and it wasn't especially busy. I sincerely hope this food truck moves to a more hospitable location. read more

Tried this place monday absolutely loved it i had the pizza puff and fried pickles the jalapeno ranch was amazing i will definitely be back

Great food. I loved it. Cool location too. I had the chili dog and the Chicago dog and it was quite delicious.

There's a great place on Rainey street and I thought that was the best Chicago dog but then I ate here. This is easily the best Chicago dog in Texas. Love the snap on the hot dog and how fresh the peppers and tomato is. Only thing that's tough is bun getting soggy if you don't eat it soon after it's made. Chili cheese dog was also best I've ever had. I love they don't put a ridiculous amount of cheese. Everything is adequate and not messy to eat. Love all the jalapeños, too. Italian beef sandwich was good too but key is the sauce they put on side. That sauce turns something average to amazing. All in all I'm excited to try the whole menu and service is so friendly here and amazing hours! Love they are open late. Check this place out you won't regret it! read more

Delicious!!!! It taste just like Chicago.. I have been looking for a Italian beef that reminds me of home and I finally found it....

I just returned from Midway Dogs and their Hot Dogs are the best I've had since traveling to Chicago. Midway Dogs rival those served at Gold Coast Hot Dogs in the main food court terminal at Midway International Airport in Chicago, Illinois. I had a Hot Dog that was dragged through the garden (no ketchup) and a Chili Dog. They were delicious! I can't recommend Midway Dogs highly enough; all I can say is that the serious Hot Dog lover needs to drive down to their location and simply enjoy. The owner is a Chicago native and a very sweet woman. Richard Howard read more
