Service was good. The veggie omelette was a disaster. Over cooked eggs and hard vegetables in the omelette. Full sliced tomato inside the omelette also. No flavor in the omelette, hash browns, or undercooked toast. Decaf coffee was burnt. I can't believe I haven't written a review for MMC or checked in!! I've been here a million times! What the heck is my problem?! I love this place. I love the atmosphere, the waiters and waitresses the clientele and of course, the food. We came here yesterday. Saturday's are very busy, but we were seated immediately. There were lots of people and there was a lot of food being piled up in the service window. Plate after plate. That kitchen was in beast mode. They got our order out fast and everything was piping hot and correct. I got the Halibut steak. It was huge! It was probably 11 inches or more, long. It was SO GOOD. The tarter sauce was perfect. Not too tangy, not too sweet. The baked potato was perfectly cooked. The corn was sweet. My husband got the 12 ounce top sirloin. He ordered it medium-well and it came out medium-well. High-end steak houses can't even get this right. He mopped his plate with it. He enjoyed every ounce. Our toddler got chicken strips and fries. Those fries are to die for. They're the kind that are dark brown, a little crispy and a little bit soggy. The best kind there is! I stole a couple bites. She is pretty picky with her chicken strips and ate them very well. Our waitress was very busy running around, but still stopped at our table periodically to make sure everything was going ok. She was very good at her job. Despite being busy, she was genuine with her interactions with everyone. What a great lady! This seems to be our experience each time we've been here. This is a great place! read more

I have been frequenting this diner for over 2 decades. My father would take us here after church. The diner has not changed and the food is still good. I haven't been back in a few years but I came back with my wife and we ordered the Prime Rib special and it came with mashed potatoes, side of carrots and a big scone. We always enjoy our time here! We've been here a handful of times. I once went with my daughter and we ordered a scone. The lady snarked when I ordered a (sk-oh-N) and said "it's pronounced (sk-on)". I replied with "Ok, that" and proceeded to look up the proper way to pronounce it. Turns out, even Europe can't agree. It's pronounced either way, depending on the region you're in. I love that place no matter, it's a true ma & pop feel with great service winning 99% of the time. Another time we went, we had a group of 12. The waitress was taking drink orders, without a pad. I smiled (I'm pretty competive) and challenged her to deliver them to the right person, the first try and we'd give her bigger tip. To my delight, she jumped with joy! Started over and NAILED it! Okay, honestly... I walked in, sat down, looked at the menu and walked out. The service was very friendly. The hostess brought us our drinks quickly, but we left without touching them. She was very kind (so I'll give this place 2 stars for that). This place however, is major Dive. It smelled greesy and gross and I felt grimey just sitting in the booth. I love their daily specials especially the prime rib or the steaks. Oh and the salmon. The Mac salads so yummy. I usually get two servings of the Mac salad instead of the green salad. Most of their soups are good. One tip if you ever take home a bake potato don't leave it in the aluminum foil. Tasty twisted rye bread with just the right amount of butter on it is the best but you will pay extra for it. The red green chili verde has a proper name of chili Colorado but they don't call it that for some reason. Dad had Dell's bells,....but the sausage gravy did not agree with him. We ordered WAY too much! Portions are HUGE here. Busy place late morning for breakfast on a Tuesday. Big menu with many choices of good food. The "Short Stack" of pancakes is enough to eat for most anyone with two massive hot cakes covering a normal size plate. Very fluffy and extremely tasty pancakes, REAL maple syrup, and plenty of butter to make you smile in the morning. A side of biscuits and gravy, thick lean bacon, a large single egg, and a humongous pile of hash browns was also brought out to the table for the three of us to slow down the consumption of three short stacks of pancakes we ordered. Service was friendly and wonderful with many visits to our table.....which meant never an empty mug of coffee. All the food was very good and enjoyable. One thing I've learned over a couple of visits to Midvale Mining Cafe is that this place gets a hoppin' on Saturday mornings. There's lots of places to sit down and dine, and nearly every one of them will be packed full of people looking to get their breakfast on. So what's the draw? Well, if you like classic diner fare that come in generous portions then you'll probably join the Saturday crowd for heaping plates of hash browns, eggs, toast, pancakes, and four-egg omelette. (As a side note, I've always preferred the fancy two-tee spelling of omelette to the plain omelet version. Not that anyone cares.) What you won't find on the menu is any mention of things that are "locally sourced" or seasonal. Or trendy. They've been at this a long time, and when you serve up a big breakfast for a reasonable price, people come knocking. As ambiance goes, it's actually nice enough. They don't try to capitalize on the kitsch of being old. It's not "old and dumpy and we don't care" but it's also not trying to be anything it's not. There are tables. There are chairs. There are servers. The theme may be miner-oriented, but they're not serving up dishes and having you use a pick axe for a utensil. It's a diner, theme and ambiance fall where they may. For travelers along I-15, you'll find the easy-on and easy-off of this place a quick convenience. Rather than stopping in at another horrid burger chain you can see anywhere across our great country, you can actually have a seat and get a real meal. They're quick about it (even on Saturday morning, once you've been seated) and although it's not a signature Salt Lake meal, it's surely a comfortable and filling one. As a side note (that people may actually care about) MMC has been super involved in the Midvale community for years. They've been supportive of local clubs and organizations and deserve some mad props for that. read more

This place was bizzzzzy on a Friday morning with many (80%) blue-collar workers who behaved as if they've been regulars here since MMC opened, some 25 years back. The other cross-section (20%) of patrons here were likely travellers staying at one of the nearby motels along west 72nd by the freeway. My personal favorite is The Discovery Inn, although I'm not sure I want to know what one would "discover" there. After driving past this quaint little diner a thousand times, we finally stopped to sample the breakfast fare. We were seated immediately, and service remained very friendly during our visit. Wait staff here seemed very cordial and efficient. No one was standing around. Coffee was refilled without needing to flag someone down. Orders and bill were correct in every way. They offer a decent breakfast menu featuring omelets, french toast, steak-n-eggs, pancakes, and the like. Pretty standard. We opted for omelets; Spanish and Denver. I tried their specialty scone on the side in lieu of toast or pancakes. On the Coffee-Snob coffee scale, they score 6 out of 10. The coffee was barely above standard diner brew. Not bad, but nothing about which I'm going to write anything further. The omelets were HUGE, and came with a HUGE serving of shredded hashbrowns. Both omelet versions were okay. The flavors didn't pop, but the veggies were fresh and they were cooked well. I was a bit disappointed in their cheese selections; either American (their standard), Cheddar, or Swiss. I guess for a diner it was fine. Hubby said their salsa on the side was terrific - fresh with great flavor. The scone was my favorite part of the meal. The only problem was that they brought it barely warm, with a very cold squeeze bottle of "Honey Butter Flavored Topping." It's the same stuff you can buy in the refrigerated spreads section of the grocery store. Meh. I would have strongly preferred real butter and a squeeze bottle of honey. Reasonable pricing for the serving size, acceptably good breakfast food, great service...overall, yeah...we'll be back. Someday. Probably...ish. read more

Crazy that it took me this long to eat here! It was a great Sunday destination. The prices and variety are great, and the customized booths and bar stools add charm. Husband had the Chile Verde Breakfast Burrito, and like a few other reviewers, wasn't thrilled with their rendition, especially for breakfast. I had the Chicken Fried Steak Lunch, and was happy with the big carrots served today--not overcooked. The scone was the closest to my Grandma's that I've had anywhere, and I was happy that I could get real butter on request. While the CFS itself wouldn't have made my list, the gravy put it there. Their Country Gravy is made with bacon! Bacon! Lots of items others were served look great, so I can't wait to return. read more

Midvale Mining Cafe is an old, diner-style restaurant. It looks to be a local hangout, but with some nearby hotels it probably gets some out of towners too. The place itself feels like it belongs in a small Utah town, not 7200 South, in the middle of the Salt Lake Valley... It's kind of run-down looking inside and features mining themed decorations throughout. But how's the food? Unfortunately it left something to be desired in my opinion. My wife and I both ordered the chili verde breakfast burrito and the first thing we noticed was that the chili verde was red, not green... Despite that color it was pretty good. The burrito consisted of scrambled eggs and hash browns (on the side) and smothered in lots of sauce and big chunks of pork. It came served with your choice of toast on the side. The breakfast burrito was pretty good, but pretty far from delicious. It was certainly not the best breakfast burrito in town. Overall I was disappointed by the Midvale Mining Cafe. The restaurant itself is run-down looking and the food was not very good. I'd be willing to try it again another time, but I won't be jumping at that opportunity anytime soon. Now that I have weekends off, we tend to visit a lot of new diners for breakfast foods since so many of our local small favorites have closed down. The Midvale Mining Cafe is a bit older, but still amazing. They are super busy on the weekends, but very quick with getting your food out. The table for 2 is a bit small, and wobbled a bit, but that happens sometimes. Barely a moments wait to get in, helps they are so quick. It can get a bit loud in there due to being so busy, and a bit cramped, but the food is awesome. I can't wait to try their scones! read more

Worst chicken I have ever had. The chicken parm was leathery like it boiled for a couple hours then sat in a heat lamp for a couple hours. The greenbeans were leathery. The honey butter they give with it is also very good. The chili verde is red, a little bit spicy and very good. Tender pork in nice bite sized chunks makes for a great side to most breakfast dishes. The eggs (I order over-easy) were cooked perfectly and topped the hash browns well. The bacon is thick-cut and lightly crispy. Ok, tried this place again for breakfast. It was the closest besides going to Dennys and they do give you large portions. It broke my heart last time to feel so awful with buyers remorse. They did me dirty last time. But decided to try there breakfast. 2 stars. Hot and delicious. I ordered the Country Fried Steak like I always do and it was good. Ok, Then again you can't go wrong with Breakfast. There dinners are scary. Im nervous with this place. I don't understand throwing processed Kraft cheese slices on a almost $13 meal.
