We stayed at the Amsterdam Marriott, and having Midtown Grill right in the hotel was a huge plus after a full day of exploring the city. For a Monday night, it was surprisingly packed, so I highly recommend making a reservation. We didn't have one, but the maître d' was extremely accommodating and found us a table since we were staying at the hotel -- a big plus, especially when traveling with kids. The food absolutely delivered. The tomahawk steak was impressive -- perfectly cooked, beautifully presented, and full of rich flavor. The NY sirloin was just as good: tender, well-seasoned, and cooked exactly as ordered. This is clearly a grill that takes its steaks seriously. The burgers were also a hit and an easy win for the kids. Despite how busy it was, service remained polished, attentive, and efficient, and the energy of the room felt lively without being overwhelming. We only dined here because it was close to our hotel, and it had a/c (many Amsterdam restaurants either don't have it, or even if they do, they leave their storefront open, allowing the cool air to escape). Service was okay, but kind of perfunctory. The steaks were fine; nothing to write home about. The sides and appetizers were disappointingly tiny for the price ($23E for 3 wee scallops?), and largely under-seasoned. Dessert menu is uninspired/old-fashioned. My wife and I went last year for our 20th anniversary. The service was great, especially the sommelier. Our food was varied, though. We started with sweetbread, which was absolutely delicious. We also had the corn ribs, which were just okay. Our main dish was the tomahawk steak, which was absolutely unseasoned. Like the stereotype of "white" food, it had zero seasoning. Can't believe we ate at a Steakhouse in a hotel. And I must admit is was wonderful. We ordered the Grain Fed and Grain Finished steak, as we are not sure we have had one in the past. It was perfect. It had a buttery taste and I would put it above a prime grade steak. As sides we ordered the mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus. First a nice little loaf of bread arrived warm and served with excellent butter. The salt on the table was from Greece and it was the Salt Winner of the month in Europe. Then the food arrived and the steak was a beauty. And the salt chunks only enhance the taste. The mashed potatoes were creamy good. And the asparagus were huge and plentiful. Glad we shared the meal between the two of and we couldn't finish it. Our server was from Greece and he was excellent as was the host. Highly recommend, will definitely be back. This is a very nice restaurant in the Marriott Hotel in Amsterdam. Certainly things are not the same right now, so the Midtown Grill has stepped it up with outdoor dining, reservations and some of the top-team members are now working here. The hotel capacity is down dramatically so this is a great place to go to support your favorite hotel. I had breakfast here and it was included in my "staycation" night. Amazing. Staff is amazing and so friend, safe and 100% social distancing and all government mandates are implored. A good place to go and have dinner, lunch and breakfast. read more

We had our first meal in Amsterdam in our hotel at the Midtown Grill! I had a delicious glass of Heineken and it was very refreshing! I ordered a filet mignon and it was good. It had a thick cut and so I didn't get a fell medium rare, more of a medium cook. The atmosphere was warm and it was raining quite hard outside. There was a good view from our table. Staff were knowledgeable and knew the various cuts of steaks and the menu. English was spoken which was a plus! We were given marshmallows at the end of dinner and we had roasted marshmallows! You made our day special Through a series of misadventures, we ended up in central Amsterdam with Covid. After guaranteeing and testing negative we were ready for a good meal. We wandered into your hotel/restaurant at 5 PM. The maître dee asked if we had reservations and we said no. He let us in (we felt underdressed) We proceeded to our table where our superstar waiter Claudia took care of us hand and foot. She explained all the cuts of meat in the fabulous tray of meat and took our order. The shell steak was tender and delicious as were the sides wonderful. Claudia ascertained I had a birthday the next day and she surprised us with a beautiful piece of cheesecake with a huge sparkler in it. My wife and I who had gone through a very stressful week are still appreciative of how we were treated. This restaurant is connected to our hotel, the Marriott Amsterdam and after a long day of traveling and then 3 hours of walking around Amsterdam, we wanted something easy and we sure did get lucky with this place. We were able to get a reservation for a Saturday night at 830pm, luckily they were able to take us at 730pm because we might not have made it through dinner that late with jetlag. We were seated promptly and had excellent service from our waiter. We had a salad and french onion soup to start, both were very good and then we shared the Tomahawk Steak and the sides of Mashed Potatoes and Macaroni and Cheese. It was all mouth-watering good. We enjoyed cocktails before dinner and a bottle of wine with dinner, though we were getting sleepy and took 1/2 the bottle back to our room. Their included dessert is marshmallows over a campfire which was just enough sweetness to end the evening and how cook to roast your marshmallow at your table over your faux campfire thanks to sterno! We dined here every morning while staying at the Marriott on a recent visit to Amsterdam. It is a nicely setup restaurant with plenty of choices for their morning breakfast buffet. The bread and cheese selections were great and really enjoyed the fresh bread loaves. Wish they had more selection of the cheeses after all you are in Amsterdam and there is definitely more than 4 types of cheeses that they serve. The cooking staff was very helpful and would serve my morning poached eggs as ordered. The eggs were heavenly with the nice orange yolks. Really enjoyed the way they served their raw honey in the trays of beeswax that you needed to scoop out. Never had honey that fresh and it was great tasting. They served the morning drinks as you would order them, coffee, any types of tea, espresso drinks,... The staff was very efficient and right at 10:45AM, they would ask you to make your last round at the breakfast bar before cleaning up and closing and believe me all that food was gone in matter of 10-15 minutes and cleaned up!!! read more

It's a nice place to get great steak. They do have quite a few selection of cuts from both Europe and US. The staff was excellent. We got a few choices between the seven of us that went. My issue was that their steak is unevenly cooked for 2/7 steaks. It was rare in one half and well on the other half. Such discrepancies should not be occurring unless the chef was not paying attention and/or they have never heard of a sous vide. read more

Coffee was weak, eggs were not cooked properly, toast was not toasted, fresh croissants seemed store bought and hash browns looked liked they came out of a freezer. I was on a vacation with my family and because we are from Texas we really wanted to go to a good steakhouse. I've noticed in Europe the customer service isn't as great and it takes over an hour to get the food. Luckily we had a great server, Claudia, she was pretty fast and made sure to get everything we needed! However, a BIG no-no was the lobster bisque. It made my fathers stomach... unsettled, and I would not have high expectations for the filets(they are chewy) but the RIBEYE was amazing and delicious, but other than that it wasn't too bad... the macaroni was a really good side and so was the hamburger! For the drinks the only thing I can say is to not order the John Doe, it was not the most delightful drink. read more

I had heard steak was good in Amsterdam and this was great! I dined alone, sat at the bar with a view of the kitchen. That view is often nice, watching the 'dance' as they expertly prepare each dish. We had an enjoyable meal at the Midtown Grill. Our waitress recommended the tomato tartar, which we didn't love, but we enjoyed the chicken caesar salads we had for our mains. It can be hard to get a good salad in Europe, but this one met our vegetable craving. My family and I were visiting the Netherlands for my grandfathers funeral. We stayed at the Marriott Amsterdam hotel which is affiliated with the Midtown Grill restaurant. This was our 3rd time staying at this hotel and experiencing the restaurant and their staff. Every time we visit this hotel and restaurant we are extremely satisfied with the level of care and service we receive. I wanted to point out a few employees who we encountered that made our trip especially enjoyable. Peter, the General Manager: Very friendly and a pleasure to speak with! Nicole, at the front desk: very professional and our check in process was seamless. Claudia, the restaurant shift leader: Such an amazing person! We enjoyed talking with her in the evenings. Always making us laugh! Mario, the F&B Manager was on holiday this time, but we enjoyed talking with him during our trip in August 2020. He is very professional, and friendly. Sherif & Aftab: the GREATEST bartenders of all time. Very personable, and wonderful to talk to. The level of care they give to making each drink really shows! We especially enjoyed our cadallac margaritas ;) Tom, the chef in the evening: makes the most delicious foods. He is extremely talented! Orthan, evening server: Very friendly, attentive and informative! Gave us some neat insight into the local trees in the area. Fernando, in breakfast: Is so kind. When we told him about my grandfathers funeral, he sent a special card and gift up to our room. It really meant a lot to us. We also enjoyed chatting with him in the mornings also :) Hang, in breakfast: So friendly and attentive! We enjoyed starting our day talking with her and discussing the current state of affairs in the Netherlands. Charles, in breakfast: knows our area well! (Bay Area, California). He is so friendly and such a pleasure to talk to! Coetje, evening server: we missed her this time as she was on holiday! But, we enjoyed talking with her during our August 2020 trip. She is so funny! She also gave us some great recommendations for Indonesian food when we asked for it. Although the reason for our trip was heartbreaking, the hotel and restaurant employees brought us so much joy. They truly brought light to our trip and we will be forever grateful for them! We look forward to our next trip - hopefully during Tulip season! Let's just hope this Corona mess is over soon! I had a few of their top items (scallops, rib eye, lobster, crab cake) and none were really any good. The steak sucked, and yes I had it medium rare as any good human should! So disappointed! One must understand that being able to order/eat a "real" steak in The Netherlands is a hit-or-miss affair. Well, OK...usually a miss. So, being used to the USDA standard of prime US corn-fed beef, the EU grass-fed variety lacks in flavor and thus a happy face. The Marriott's Midtown Grill, however, put a smile on this face. The restaurant has a nice view of the busy street and pedestrian traffic. The decor is typical American lounge dining with an open kitchen. Comfortable enough for any purveyor of fine dining. When you walk in there's a refrigerated viewing case of the nicely marbled beef. One can look and gawk at the meat like an aquarium of fish but in this case it's slabs of meat and not guppies. *two thumbs up* My business associate and I asked to be seated by the window...no problem. To start things off I ordered a glass of Argentinian Malbec and he ordered Makers OTR. We both ordered the 300gr Rib-eye on the bone (medium rare). I had the roasted potatoes and roasted mushrooms as sides. They asked if we wanted sauce with our steaks. The Dutch always have some kind of sauce (pepper, stroganoff, wine, zigeuner, etc.) with their steaks because their grass-fed beef is so damn dry and tasteless but I already mentioned that. We both said no to any sauce which produced a quizzical but indifferent frown on the Dutch waiter's face. I mean what does he know? Anyhow, our steaks came perfectly cooked and were delicious. Thank God for the USDA stamp of approval. A little pricey at 34 euros but that's the price one pays in The Netherlands for a decent meal, which this was. After dinner we hit a little Belgian beer bar, which deserves a review but that's for another time. So, if you're ever in Amsterdam and have a hankering for beef hit up the Midtown Grill at the Marriott's near the Leidseplein. I am a guest at the Amsterdam Marriott Hotel so I decided to come down to Midtown Grill for a late dinner. I ordered the Chef's Special, short rib, which came with mashed potatoes and green beans. The short rib came in a cast-iron bowl with the green beans and au jus and the mashed potatoes were in a bowl and placed on a large plate. I planned to cut off small pieces of meat and bring them over to my plate but the first two pieces I cut were ALL fat. The waitress came over to check on me and I said everything was fine but she informed me that the chef noticed all of the fat I cut away (I was sitting in front of the grill) and he wanted to start another one for me. I wasn't very hungry to begin with and it was already late so I declined but I was very impressed with the fact that he even noticed. He told me to let him know if I changed my mind and offered to provide an extra side if I would prefer a vegetable over more meat. I declined that was well but they just couldn't let me leave without something! They brought me marshmallows and a small fire so I could roast them...how cute! The food wasn't that great (considering the amount of fat on the meat) but what it lacked in taste, they definitely made up for in service. Service was very good. I had a nice wedge salad with super delicious maple smoked bacon and a blue cheese dressing that was super sharp and intense. Ordered a glass of St. Emillon red wine that was quite delicious. I ordered my steak medium-rare and ended up with something closer to medium-well. The steak went back and a new one came back very very rare. I sent it back again and it came back medium. I gave up. I have yet to have a great steak anywhere out of North America, but I keep trying. read more

This review is for breakfast. Open early is great - 6:30am for the jetlagged and weary. And the service too is alsl kind and quiet. Perfect for 6:30am. But the ommelette they served up was just horrible. More grease than eggs and little flavor. I got the ham and eggs. Very bad. And the hash browns had this nasty odor that had me gagging. The coffee is pretty good. Nothing exceptional. But 8 euro for a half pot it damn well better be!! read more

I do not necessarily expect much from hotel restaurants and to be honest, I hardly eat in them. But I absolutely loved this place! It is a little on the pricey side, but worth it. The ambience is great and the food is even better. If you want to eat steak, this is the place to be. From Sirloin, Filet Mignon to Rib Eye. The best part is that they have dry-aged steaks! The service was excellent and they know their dishes well. If you eat here, I recommend you ask the waiter to decide for you, as they really know what's best. That's what we did, and it was an incredible surprise. The cutest part of this place is that the dessert menu is on a postcard, which they will mail for you. My friend and I decided to send it to each other, so I can't wait to read what she wrote! It was such a great place we ended up sitting there for a good 4 hours. read more
