I came with a day tour group and it was clear they were catering to people from the tour by making sure the service was super fast - I got my food within literally a matter of a few minutes. The place is decorated in a traditional Dutch seafront town kind of vibe. It was busy when I went although I was able to get seated right away (and clearly service speed was not an issue as all). The staff are fairly friendly too. Overall, the main selling point for this place is the fast service speed, especially if you are here for a quick visit to Volendam as part of a tour. I visited Volendam as part of a tour group, and our tour guide recommended De Lunch, so my friend and I came here for lunch. We had a little over an hour to eat, but it's clear they're used to catering to tour groups here as we were in and out of here in about an hour. Very quick. They have some outdoor seating on the sidewalk and along the water. I didn't go inside the restaurant, but I assume there's plenty of seating inside as well, since they were seating a lot of people inside constantly. The menu is seafood focused, but they have other entrees like steak, grilled chicken, burgers (including a veggie one!) as well. They have a special menu with their most popular items, including kibbeling (fried fish) and vismix, an assortment of fried seafood, which made it easy to order. I got the vismix for $17.50, which I thought was very reasonably priced. It comes with fried calamari, cod fish (i.e. kibbeling), mussels, and shrimp, along with a very generous side of french fries. The food came out super fast after ordering, which makes me think they fry things in big batches in the kitchen and then just assemble once customers order. Because of that, the food had cooled down and wasn't even warm. It was still delicious, especially the calamari and mussels, but I would've preferred something that was piping hot, so you know they just cooked it. The fries were pretty meh and I only ate a couple pieces. My friend got the vegetarian smoked avocado burger ($14.50) and really enjoyed it. I'm glad they have something for everyone! read more

It seems to be SUPER focused on tourists, with service inside out being very fast to quickly turnover customers. They're used to catering to customers who are on a time limit and what to do as much stuff as possible. For us, the restaurant front was both where our tour guides released us for free time (right before LUNCH) as well as our designated meeting place. As advertised, they really do function really well as a pit stop. With Volendam being a port town, seafood a major focus of the local cuisine. If you haven't tried kibbeling yet, then this is a great place to try it. We also got lekkerbek, and both were fried really well. They also both came with the garlic mayo and tartar sauce, both of which cuts through the greasiness really well. It was really tasty. I liked both, being a sucker for white fish. But between the two though, I did like the kibbeling better. It was just delicious. All in all, this was super convenient for picking up legitimately tasty food that you can eat while continuing to explore. I went here for a quick lunch since I had to meet somebody in front of this restaurant. The recommended dish was the kibbeling. I had no clue what kibbeling was except that it's fish. I looked at the menu anyway just to see if there's something else that would spark my interest. The place was packed with tourists. If you see an open table, you take it and share with a bunch of other people then a server comes to you and takes your order. I got kibbeling, and a hot cherry pancake. Fried Kibbeling: Cod but meatier with fries and different sauces: tartar, ketchup, and sweet and sour. The fish was fresh and tasty. You get fried slightly naked fish nuggets. All the sauces worked but the sweet and sour was a bit odd to dip this fish in. 4/5 Hot Cherry Pancake: Pankoekken! They have different varieties of pancakes/toppings but hot cherry isn't so common and I like cherries. You get a huge thin pancake with hot syrupy cherries and chantilly. Oh my! This was soooo amazing! The cherries were a bit tart but balanced by the sweetness of the syrup and chantilly. Dutch pancakes are supposed to be almost as thin and as light as crepes which I love. 5/5 The only problem was that the service was a bit bad. We placed our order first but other tables got their food before we did. Getting our check took a lot of follow-ups until we finally got up and got ready to leave.
