We couted around looking for a contractor to fix this. We ended up picking the Brick Doctor based on some recommendations from friends. I am glad we did. While it took a while to get scheduled, they came out, estimated the work, showed us pictures taken at the top (so I didn't have to climb up and look!) and gave us a quote. The quote was higher than some, but what they decided was necessary was more in line with some of the cosmetic solutions proposed by others. They wanted a 20% deposit and the rest on completiopn. No problem there. Major scaffold put up, great care taken not to damage the integrity of the roof. Demollition was handled well.
