I love that this a small neighborhood diner. Upon arriving, it was evident that most of the patrons inside were regulars (and maybe twice my age). They have an awesome breakfast menu and a solid sandwich and ok dinner selection which is exactly what you'd expect from a diner. I ended up ordering a cup of chili with a Reuben sandwich. The Reuben was cheap but still packed with meat and a generous size for the price. I'm always skeptical when reubens are under 10 bucks as they typically aren't any good but this one was an exception! The chili was a nice compliment to the meal and was filling as well. I liked the prices, taste, and atmosphere here. A very good neighborhood choice for a homely meal to be had. read more

Now, I don't expect too much out of a greasy spoon. Just give me a diner that can make decent eggs, a patty melt, that good crispy yet greasy-as-hell bacon, and a respectable cup of coffee and I'll be okay. Unfortunately the West Middlesex diner pretty much failed in all those aspects. I went twice during my stay in West Middlesex/Farrell, once out of necessity and again to give the place a second chance. What did I learn? If you have to go, go later at night. I'm not sure if the day-time cook was just overloaded or what (though the joint wasn't that busy) but the breakfast I got during normal breakfast hours was instantly forgettable. Eggs were overcooked, bacon undercooked, and the portions pretty small. I tried again on the way to the Pittsburgh airport one morning (around 4am) and it was a little better, but still nothing special. Now I grew up in the south, the land of the Waffle House - so I know what a middle-of-the-line diner should be. Sunday breakfast with my wife and two kids. Very reasonable. I went with my go to which is the Jimmy's Super. The Jimmy's Super comes with 2 eggs, home fries, 2 pieces of bacon, 2 sausage links, and 2 hotcakes. The Super will set you back around $5 and some change but it is the BEST bang for the buck. My kid's split the Super and my wife ordered the 3 piece French toast. We ordered two coffees, one chocolate milk, and one OJ. My bill was $25. read more

I Was in Pennyselvania on a work trip and thought I'd stop at this cute little dinner located in Middlesex. Upon arrival I was told the unfortunate news that they do not serve any sort of alcohol. But, I knew that food could always make up for that. I ordered the Ribeye steak (that was a bit overdone), which was served with onion rings, as well as yummy Mac n' cheese and unfortgettable pasta salad! We were driving through on our way back to Michigan from New York. We decided to break-up our trip and spend the night somewhere (1/2 way). The guy at the front desk at the hotel we were staying at recommended this place. It was less than a 10 minute drive, so it was very convenient. Service: When we walked in, it took awhile for anyone to acknowledge us. The lady who finally acknowledged us was a bit cold and rude, so I started off with a negative vibe from this place. However, our waitress was a sweet lady. She was very friendly, helpful, and nice. Food: The food isn't anything to write home about, but it does hit the spot if you're hungry. It's very filling and the portion sizes are good. I had their steak and potato dinner. The steak was fine. The potatoes were good though. Yum! Drinks: They have beer and wine. I don't know what else they have in terms of alcohol. They also have coffee, tea, and sodas. Note: I don't think I'll be back in this area for awhile, if at all, so I'm not going to say that I'll be back. However, I will recommend this place to others who are in this area and looking for a place to eat. read more

Food is really cheap for breakfast and does the job. Only complaint would be that the servers are a little grumpy both times I've been.

Found this to be--based on two separate visits--a great spot with fresh food, great service, and yummy pies. Always busy with locals and fresh specials. Enjoyed the Reuben, pierogis, chicken parm, and roast pork with bread stuffing. The fresh homemade rhubarb pie also was delicious. We stopped in looking for a quick inexpensive diner style breakfast. My wife and I each went with the two egg breakfast special with toast and bacon and one order of home fries. The food came quick and was quite good for a meal and two cups of coffee that came to a total of ten dollars for the two of us. We wanted a quick, cheap diner breakfast and the Middlesex diner delivered. Food was decent, cheap, quick and our coffee cups stayed full. I've eaten at the Middlesex Diner for years and I've always had good experiences here. They have decent greasy spoon style food, I think most of it is home made, and it's inexpensive. Worst diner experience I've ever had. Tables available, but I was asked to sit at the counter, probably because I was alone. Ordered scrambled eggs and bacon. We made a stopover at West Middlesex while traveling from Northern Jersey to Chicago. WM is right in the middle. This diner was conveniently located near our hotel. It is a cozy place in a country setting. We got there at around 8:30 pm and diner was not very busy. The service was good and food came fast.
