New place in town here in Houston. Surprise prices for things are not cool at all. I would have liked to know the prices for things before I bought them without asking...I didn't know it would be $12.50 for a small Greek salad and a gyro that was another small salad n a few slices of beef on a piece of pita bread ...$2.50 for the greasy spinach pie that was "fresh made" wasn't crunchy at all. Was delicious, just expecting it to be crunchy and fresher....so that was a little disappointing. When buying things in the store the machine malfunctioned twice and the guy at the register was the only one who spoke English. He seemed to have a hard time with knowing how to scan and ring up things, it took a while, I'm patient. Not a problem, but some may not be, Overall the food was yummy, just a little over priced and, the service was top notch, clean, just slow and who knows they might work it out soon. I ended up meeting the new owner and he was very personable, great eye contact and asked questions about the food and service. We walked into the store and were greeted. The store owner and the man who helped us find stuff that also happens to do the cooking on the restaurant side of the business are both very friendly and helpful. We came on Sunday. The restaurant side is closed on Sunday but we were able to get pics of the menu for next time we come by and we picked up several things on the store side. Even though the restaurant is closed they made us some fresh prepped falafel and hummus to take home. Really nice place. On the store side of the business we also picked up alot of great stuff. We'll be back for sure. My wife and I came back the next day and had dinner at the restaurant with my parents. Delicious food. this place deserves less than a one-star rating due to the appalling service my mother and father received. Not only did they endure a baffling wait of over thirty minutes for unseasoned and uncooked shawarma and told that they were suppose to say to season the food before hand. where is the common sense in that, plus the owner's conduct was shockingly rude and disrespectful. The situation escalated when, upon processing a refund, the owner disdainfully threw the credit card back at my father. Such behavior is unacceptable and completely tarnished their experience. It's disheartening to encounter such discourtesy, and I cannot recommend this place to others, will never go back and hope they change their behavior. read more

I come here to buy lamb or goat for special occasions. Their meat is fresh and the price per pound is great. They will break down the cuts for you per hour request. When we heard they opened up a restaurant next door, we decided to give it a try. I must admit that I was highly skeptical when we first got there. Apparently they're still working on the interior as it looked disorganized. We were greeted by a nice man who looked like he ran the place. He suggested a few plates and went to prepare them. First he brought out some pita bread, hummus, baba ghanoush and falafel. I was so pleasantly surprised, everything tasted great. The falafel had an interesting spice. The baba ghanoush and hummus were delicious. Next we had the mixed grill plate that consisted of chicken, beef and kafta. Everything again tasted excellent. The chicken was juicy and flavorful. Everything seasoned just right. I'm so glad to see a Middle Eastern restaurant open in this area. I will definitely be coming back again! read more

Ordered take out from here and boy oh boy am I glad I did...I had the beef skewers with rice and a Greek salad and WOW this was the best tasting skewer I've ever had! It actually tastes like beef and was oh so tender, no knife needed! Greek salad was fresh with huge chunks of tomatoes and bell peppers I'm assuming the gentleman at the register was the owner and he had me try these meat bundles of joy that have pine nuts and are deep fried!!! I come here frequently to buy my cooking staples. (Labneh, Laban, Cheeses, Arabic Pita Bread, Lebanese Cucumbers, Olives, Burghul, Lentils, Tea, Jalab, Vimto!) The store is not very big but it is clean, the staff are very friendly and helpful. They have allot of the same products as Phoenicia (so I'm thinking thats where they get their produce, meats, dairy etc...) Pricing is reasonable and the drive to here is allot easier than having to go to Houston. If they do not have what you are looking for they can order it for you. This place surpasses any and all middle eastern/south Asian grocery stores in the south east area! This location constantly keeps to high standards and does not become lazy in their upkeep like a lot of south Asian/middle eastern grocery stores tend to do. I often buy my chicken and meat from here. The other spices/ingredients are also bought here from me when I am making a dish of "back home." They always have items in stock and everything well before the expiration date - unlike a lot of other south Asian/Arab stores The staff are friendly, helpful, and do their best to get to know their customers likes, wants and needs. The owner is extremely rude and has expired ingredients on the shelf. I was a regular here and witnessed several times people complaining about expired items and the owner would shut them up and tell them to never come back. I found it extremely rude but since it was the closest to my house, I kept on going. Once I purchased a packet of hot dogs from here and it was expired. Since I checked it after 2 days of purchasing i disregarded it and threw it away. The other time, I picked up a packet of bread which was supposed to be fresh but when I brought it home, it had mild on it. I went right back to return but the owner shouted at me and accused me of bringing old bread. He wasn't even giving me my money back and literally shouted at me. I never went back to the store. I warn everyone to check the expiration date before purchasing. This place is a scam! read more

Called my order in....and I am glad I did. All the other reviews have covered the lack of ambiance and atmosphere, so I will skip the obvious. It was a rainy Saturday night and I just wanted some Middle Eastern comfort food. Let me start with the Baba Gnoush...creamy, smokey, eggplant goodness. Another highlight was the salad that came with the Shwarma plates we ordered; one beef and one chicken. I would loosely say it qualifies as shwarma, there was no spinning wheel of meat that was carved off of, but it was flavorful, tender and juicy none the less. Hummus was also perfect. So glad to have this place on the SE side. A hidden gem for sure. We will definitely make our way down the menu! read more

So happy that I discovered this little place. I drive by it every day to and from work. When I was driving by one evening I happened to see that there was a restaurant on one side. Soon after I decided to stop. I took my coworkers here for lunch. We entered on the restaurant side. It is a rather small place, with maybe 9 or so tables. Not many. The man behind the counter is very friendly and eager to help. It is not very well decorated, but he explained that he is planning to do more with the place. The menu is a bit simple right now, but has all that you need. For lunch we ordered the beef shawarma and the chicken shawarma. We also had hummus and falafel. One of the down sides here is there are no drinks on the restaurant side, you have to go into the grocery side. Not a big deal but I think in the future they should do that on the restaurant side. The hummus is some of the best I've ever had. Very fresh and home made. The falafel is terrific. It is a classic, but has a different spice in it. But it is a good thing! The shawarma came out soon after and they are awesome. Very good seasoning. I would recommend the chicken over the beef, but just barely. Both were very good. We all left full from the lunch. The price is very reasonable as well. As for the store side...it is also very good. There is a wide selection of Mediterranean items, including those from Italy, Israel, etc. Very nice selection of spices at good prices. Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant and store. Things that I hope they improve on: advertising on the outside (you can't even tell there is a restaurant from the outside), desserts (would have loved some baklava), overall organization in the store (seems a bit cluttered). I went into this tiny store for the first time with a list of ingredients I had never cooked with before--whole cloves, sumac, za'atar, tahini, dried chick peas, and more (for recipes from the cookbook, Jerusalem). The owner was very kind and helpful and walked around with me, helping me find everything I needed. They also butchered fresh chicken thighs for me and did everything with a smile. I was happy to see a place close to work that has Mediterranean food. The place itself looked a little sketchy, but the food was great! The older gentleman who was the cook in the restaurant was very nice. I was happy to see that the food was cooked fresh and in front of you. I got the Chicken Shawerma Sandwich. It was delicious, though I wish they did have the garlic sauce. Just went here to pick up a few items for a new recipe and also to check their frozen chapati section. Got all my items and found the place to be great inside. The clerk, possibly an owner, was very kind to everyone and had to be sure I knew they also had a restaurant. The store it isn't bad and the people are nice, but the restaurant that attaches to it not so good. Went there last year near Ramadan and the guy running was very nice and it was clean and a great dish that I really like they no longer have but replaced it with a not very good dish that does not taste near as good. The two dish are a little similar because they both have eggplant. Very beyond disappointing because I was so ready to eat that great tasting dish I had had before. The restaurant is horribly dirty and when going to wash my hands I almost fell. Tables, floors, counter, bathroom all very dirty. It took forever to get two chicken sandwiches and an order of falafels I spent all night with a sick stomach and running to the bathroom when we got home. I will not eat there again, unless they bring back the better cook and nicer and caring people in the restaurant because they didn't not really care to take care of a paying customer they wanted to just do what they wanted and kept walking off and not cooking the orordered good and cared about spending more time on the phone or talking to a friend.
