Have you ever been seated outside on the patio by a hostess, commented to her on the fact you've never been to either Middendorf's location before, had your order taken by the waitress, drinks delivered then NEVER SEE YOUR SERVER AGAIN FOR 55 MINUTES?? It happened to us Saturday at Middendorf's Slidell. Couldn't even tell you the lady's name because she never came back! I finally went inside to find her after watching her serve and turn other tables through the window, I asked how much longer the food would be she says "Oh my God, I totally forgot about y'all! I'm so sorry!" I had heard complaints of 45-minute food orders so I assumed that was it and tried to be a patient customer. Nope, she never put our food order in after serving us two Dixie beers and kids drinks, and never came outside again to see if we were ok and ask if we wanted anything else.
The restaurant was less than half full. The weather was beautiful, it was my husband's birthday dinner, we arrived at 4:55pm and asked to be seated outside so we could enjoy the sunset and watch our kids play on the kids beach area. We never get to go to out to dinner due to scheduling and were so looking forward to eating here. I even had a conversation with her about the negative reviews they'd been getting, asked her how busy they've been since opening, told her how excited we were to try their food, and how much we were hoping they succeed and do well for Slidell--I even ended with "we are not complainers, I am anxious to spread the word and give you guys a good review". I feel now like we were the butt of a practical joke!!!
There is NO excuse to be forgotten about just because you are seated on the patio. It must have cost $1M alone for the design of that huge patio and play area, and we were the only table out there all night. I was a server for many years, and never forgot one of my tables existed, even patio ones. With two starving kids in tow, I did not attempt to find the manager and complain. All I got from the waitress before walking out (besides 2 free Dixie beers) was "I hope y'all will come back soon!" Um, no thanks. Such a shame, I wanted so badly to support a legendary independent family business and encourage others to try them out. Unfortunately I fear another empty building in Slidell if they can't get their act together!
I am giving them 1 star just for the impressive appearance, decor and kids beach play area. read more
