Went in today for an emissions test. They told me $20 cash and to give my keys, not even asking me my name. They were very specific about cash only too, so make sure you have exact change. There were about 4 other people in the waiting room with me which is right in front of the check in counter. The chairs were pretty comfortable given the situation, and a show on ion was playing on the waiting room tv, although I didn't really watch it. After Midas completed work on my car, I noticed that the key insert on my key fob was missing. I alerted them right away. They looked around. One employee helped look through my car. They promised to continue looking and would contact me if they do or don't find my key. I called the next morning to see if they made any progress finding my key. The manager, Carlos, who was not present on the day of the incident, proceeded to explain to me how the key goes in and out of the fob like I don't know how to work my own key fob. I informed him that the key was inserted in the fob when I handed it over to the young lady working the front desk. Carlos then goes through their process of handling keys and told me there is no way his staff lost my key. I repeated to him again that the key was present in the fob when i handed it over. He insisted again that they did not lose my key as if it is not possible for his staff to make a mistake. So, if you choose to go here, just know that they will not take responsibility when they make a mistake. read more

Went in for emissions test. I told the lady that we were in a bit of a rush as we had to be home to get our kids off the bus. With all of the staff standing around, the woman told me it would be another 20 minute wait, at least. It wasn't the time (although that was a problem), it was the "I don't give an F attitude" that is so prevelant across lower end jobs these days. Stay away from this shop at all costs! This is long overdue and well deserved. They did an absolutely horrible job which caused me to break down on the road and repair their screwup myself and having to pay over $80 in parts out of my own pocket! I brought my Jeep in because I had a cracked hose leaking coolant. They wanted to charge me over $300 to repair. I thought the price was ridiculous when in the past a previous mechanic charged me $108 to repair a hose. When I questioned the fee they removed the diagnostic fee and charged me $222 to replace 2 hoses which seemed more reasonable. It was only 4 days later the hose they replaced came off because they put a used rusty clamp on that I could actually take off squeezing with my bare hands with little pressure. I provided a picture of the clamp they put back on so you can see. I ended up buying a new clamp and $80 to repair the damages. I went into the shop to complain. They said someone would call. Nobody ever did. When I showed the clamp they put on, the guy at the counter said, 'well we gave you a discount.' Just because they gave a more 'reasonable' price does NOT MEAN you put on used parts that could cause someone's car to break down. When you do a job, do it right. read more

Stay away from Midas they're thieves and liars. Went in for back suspension repair and oil change. Opened up a credit card account with them, was approved for $1500. Couple days later I get a letter from the bank saying they can't up my amount. So I called the bank. Midas was trying to get a $5000 limit they got it approved for $3000 and did $3000 worth of work that I did not approve of. Anyway called the corporate office saying I was going to sue or shut them down. I got my lawyer and won my case what they did for me to not shut them down paid for all the repairs that was done and gave me $500 to go to a mechanic of my choice. read more

Went to this location -Midas New Britain Ave thinking I needed a new starter. Turns out just needed a new battery. They preceded to put the new starter despite the fact that it was not the problem. Had to pay a hefty bill for something not needed. Called them and they blamed me for thinking that is what I needed. I am not a mechanic and trusted them. Very rude customer service. They told me they did me a favor by putting a battery. No favors. I paid for the battery, paid to have it installed and still had to pay for the work on the starter that I did not need. read more

I loved this place! I happened to be in the area (due to moving to the Northeast Corner) and called them a little over an hour until they were to close to see if they could fix my brakes. They took me, even though it was so close, and it was a good thing they did! My brakes were almost gone completely! They finished fixing it just 5 minutes after closing, were hospitable and friendly the entire time, and then took the time to call the credit card company when the card didn't work the first time (it was an old card, oops!). I used to use this Midas location all the time when I lived in West Hartford, and still go back there when needed because I loved the service so much. I have a new car so thankfully it doesn't need much work and don't go in very often, but if I needed work I would still go to this location. They always were great and fast with the service and everyone was extremely friendly. The manager there Louis was especially nice, and anything I needed he took care of for me right away. I never had to worry about a thing. The other nice feature of this place that you don't see often is the entire wall connecting the shop to the waiting area is a huge glass wall. Since there are only about 5 or 6 lifts you can always see your car from where you are sitting. I love this because you never have to worry about something going wrong, or feeling like you were cheated because you can see the work done every step of the way. read more

I went to get a car problem fixed. They supposedly "diagnosed" the problem, told me what the problem was, I agreed to pay for the problem to get fixed.. They finished in about 4 hours , gave me the keys, I get on the highway and problem is still their if not worse. I called store and tell them the problem is still their , they told me to come back immediately. I come back to a shop manager yelling at me telling me that I did not pay to fix the problem and that I'm lying and putting words in his mouth about the whole ordeal. They diagnosed the problem , told me it was something specific, I paid for that specific something to get fixed, and it DID NOT fix the issue. I come back immediately and now they are telling me the issue is something else and that I'm a liar . I was treated immediately like I was wrong . I DO NOT appreciate being yelled at by the shop manager in front of other customers at that , I do not appreciate being called a liar, I do not appreciate not being able to finish a sentence when I'm speaking calmly and explaining things reasonably with the receipt in hand as proof. I spent over $1000 last week at this very same shop , and that was my first time their. Spent $381 today and got completely scammed. I was ignored by the shop manager for about 30 minutes when I came back the second time, shop personal had me running back an forth to go find other shop personal on the working floor(are people even allowed inside the garage work area?) . Very unprofessional place! I cannot trust bringing my car their again after todays affairs. I brought my car in for some exhaust work. The tailpipe was gone from the muffler so I wasn't sure what had to be replaced. After checking things out, I was told that the muffler, tailpipe, and piping from manifold through the catalytic converter would have to be replaced at a cost of about $1200. I was also told it would be about 2 hours later. After 6 hours the car was finally released, but the complete exhaust system was replaced at only slightly more cost than original estimate. The technician had to go back twice to get a working catalytic converter, which I appreciated since the last time I had one replaced, I had to return the next day because it was defective. The technician and I were both frustrated at the time and energy it took to make repairs, but I was pleased with the final result. Hopefully, I won't need this again for a few years. read more

2.5 hours I waited for them to change 1 tire. People came and went. After an hour I asked what was up. They said they were waiting for a tire to get here. After 2 hours I asked again, they said they had other people's tires to change and they were doing them all together. After 2.5 hours I asked AGAIN and after ten minutes of waiting and being THE ONLY ONE LEFT in the store, the guy comes back and says they're JUST starting to change the tire now. Oh, and somehow it comes out to $330 for a single $160 tire. This place should be shut down. Absolutely atrocious. Have used the Midas in Clinton, CT multiple times and had fantastic experiences. Went in April 2019 to get my wheel bearings fixed - $733. February 2020 the left bearing went again. I went to a mechanic in Windsor who confirmed. I then went into the Hartford location where the work was originally done. Debbie told me they would fix and discount the parts. I asked for something else to be done as this was clearly their fault and unsafe to drive the car. Bearings should last years! She said she put a call into her Manager and couldn't do anything else. We went to car and found the Managers number and got him on the phone instantly. He told us he would do it for half the price she quoted but not until tomorrow. They allowed me to drive home and risk the bearing locking up all to make $117 more! Why should I have to pay a dollar for a mistake their mechanic made?!?! I stopped in a few weeks ago when I realized that a piece of plastic on the bottom of my car was dragging. I needed a quick fix. The manager said the best thing to do was simply cut off part of the plastic piece since he couldn't reattach it. Dishonest and far from trustworthy! Took my car there on a Saturday after I had drive train work done by another local mechanic. The other local mechanic was closed and I was experiencing shaking at highway speeds. Midas told me a nut was missing on the suspension that the other mechanic failed to replace. I had them replace the nut, and they sold me struts, shocks, front brakes, wheel alignment, etc. Post that work, the rear end sounded like it was about to fall apart. I went back, they inspected the car and then had me come in and have a look. They handed me a freshly sheared off bolt and told me it was sitting in the frame, clearly done by the other local mechanic. I went back to the other mechanic who told me it was a freshly broken nut and if they had done it, that part would have fallen out on the highway. They felt it was Midas, and as they have a working relationship with Midas (they do the body work when Midas damages a car), they called the owner. It took about a week before Midas acknowledged they had broken the bolt. Then another week for them to get the part and when I went in they continued to insist they were not responsible. Amazingly, once they replaced the bolt (and didn't acknowledge doing anything else) all the noises disappeared and the car has been fine ever since. The level of dishonesty appalls me! read more

Awesome service! Knowing little about cars, I always feel apprehensive that I'll get ripped off with car services I don't need. I went in for a simple oil change and tire rotation and it turned out that my back two tires needed immediate replacement. There were several other issues as well. However they did say there were things I could hold off for a while. The staff was friendly, especially the woman at the front desk. I was impressed that they checked so many things even though I just came in for an oil change. Even though I was in there for 3 hours and spent a bit more than I planned (although it was a very fair price considering all that theydid) I drove away confident and happy that my car was ready for the road again. read more

I went in with a flat tire because my TPMS sensor was malfunctioning. It was too far to drive on a donut to my normal shop, so I decided to use this one just for that one tire so I could use the other shop for the other three. It took 3 hours to replace the sensor here, while it took 45 minutes to replace the other three at Monroe, and only for a little bit more for all three than the price of a single sensor at Midas. I also found out at Monroe that the sensor Midas replaced wasn't even working. I went back to Midas for them to fix it. An hour and a half later, they told me they couldn't fix it, were sending it to Town Fair Tire, and that it would be another hour and a half. By the time it was *actually* finished, I had waited a total of 9 hours for them to fix one sensor for an inflated price and I was late for work (my appointment was at 8:30am and I needed to leave at 1pm, which should have been more than enough time to replace *one* sensor)--which *they* didn't even fix. The shop was also very slow that day, so it's not like they were just busy. I would have been more understanding if they had been busy, but this was not the case. I recommend Monroe for TPMS replacement--don't come here unless you want overpriced work where they don't even check to see if what they did works before sending you on your way. Plus, they clearly were unable to do it themselves, so cut out the middle man and go somewhere that knows what they're doing. Update: Even after that, the sensor was still not working. I went back again, they reset the light, and then the sensor was *still* not working. They refused to give me any portion of money back to go somewhere that can actually take the time to fix my tire properly, as that should have been done in the 10 hours and 200 dollars I spent there. Waste of time and money--I just wish I could go back in time and never have gone there in the first place. read more

This Midas shop does a good job. A few years ( 4 years appx. ) back, I had a problem with some brake work they did for me. I stopped going for awhile. But, it seems the last two years they have definitely improved. I have often taken my cars there the past year for minor work like oil changes or exhaust repair work. For minor work, this shop is fine and shouldn't be any problems. They are friendly and the shop is clean. They do emissions there too so it is convenient. read more

I don't normally write Yelp reviews. I work in the restaurant business and I am strongly opposed to a negative review's power to essentially hold a business hostage. Many people need to use this website in a more proactive and positive manner. However, when a place straight up treats you unfairly, then I think people have a right to know that information so it can better inform their decision. I took my father's '97 Audi in to have the breaks looked at. I am currently borrowing his car since mine is in the shop. The auto shop was very busy due to emissions testing, but this didn't bother me, it's very understandable. The woman at the front desk was pleasant enough, and the proprietor and I had an easy and friendly discussion about his opinion on the vehicle, the estimate (which was over 1000$) and the inherent issues facing AWD vehicles. I explained to him several times that this was my father's car and the decision of how to proceed was his alone. He said "Of course, no problem". After speaking with my father, I informed the owner that he wished to take it to a different shop. As soon as he heard this, he lost all interest in me and my situation and sat in his office on the phone, not saying another word to me. I asked the attendant to have my car taken down from the lift so I could leave. While the mechanics were aware that they would not be doing any work on my vehicle, they let it sit on the lift for 30 minutes, working on other projects without much urgency, with no concern for getting me on my way. At this point the emissions business had slowed down significantly, and yet I still had to find the attendant and ask again to have my car taken down. She asked the mechanics a third time, who finally complied. I was stuck at Midas for nearly 3 hours for what amounted to a 30 dollar break inspection. Oh, and my father was able to have it fixed for 500$. read more

Had a terrible experience and felt ripped off. They charged me $330 to replace 4 spark plugs and maintained it was an "automatic" billing code" they could not control or modify once they hit mu credit card. No approval of this high a charge on my end as I would have said no and taken it elsewhere or done it myself. I believe this is a MIdas company culture problem. The head office has exploitative practices and the front line staff have to suck it up and apologize to the customer when they inevitably complain of the high bill and lack of approval.
