This was my first time at this Midas location. The guy at the front was friendly and personable. The service guy didn't try to upsell me on anything like places often do - no one tried to sell me on various unnecessary, expensive flushes. I did get the high mileage oil because my car has over 130,000 miles on it, and they did note a few suggestions on the printout such as an inexpensive oil filter, which I already knew, my oil filter is cracked. My service tech went above and beyond. I've been having problems with the front driver side tire losing air, so they checked that out. The guy said when he did the leak test my tire looked like a fish aquarium, lol! He explained why that happened, the corrosion on my aluminum wheel made the tire separate from the wheel, but he sealed it. For free!! Because they didn't try to sell me anything unnecessary, I think if they do suggest something, it's a real problem and not a fake one. Because I was a walk-in, it took an hour and a half but that's expected because I didn't have an appointment. But it wasn't bad because while I waited I went to McDonald's, had a latte, chatted with my mom, ate a fish sandwich, did some reading. I got back just as they were finishing up. If I was less lazy, I could have walked to my house which is only 15 minutes away. Other good things: they topped of fluids like always, and put that print out sticker showing when I got my last oil change. Upon inspection, it was found that the oil drain plug has been stripped. The head of the bolt shows clear signs of damage caused by improper handling during this company's oil change service . The stripping has compromised the ability to properly tighten and loosen the plug, which cause issues with future oil changes and potential oil leaks. I had brake inspection a week ago there, charged me $29.99 for this. They said I needed rear brakes and rotors. that cost me nearly $500.00. Left there and brakes were thumping worse. Came back in and they said it was now the front brakes. why didn't they see this with the brake inspection? whatever , now this one cost me nearly &400.00. I left after the service, got on highway and it was shaking and thumping worse! pulled into CarX because I was scared to drive further, apparently the front caliper is locked up in the wheel! what the hell Midas! I have been coming to this Midas for a few years. I know this location can be pretty busy, so I either drop off my car, or bring a book for the wait. Gary, one of their mechanics, is ALWAYS great to me. He is accurate with diagnosing trouble with my car 99% of the time. Brian is always great with me too. They don't try to sell me products I don't need, and they shoot straight with me. They also don't treat me like I'm a woman who doesn't know anything about cars, and that is more valuable than gold to me. Respect is given, and gotten. This place is an absolute rip off...wanted to get the car checked out before a road trip because it was making a slight rattling noise. Turns out it was low on oil, which I probably should have checked before taking it over but I was in a rush. Anyway, the guy on the phone is trying to sell me on all this random crap for over $500 additional, including new wipers, which we replaced a month ago. In summary, he said it would be $70 for a synthetic oil change, which is pricey af but I said okay because I figured they would just change the oil real quick and charge me $70 for the 2 min of work they were doing. Instead, as I'm hanging up he's like, okay it'll be $65 for the "inspection" so like $150 total. I hang up and realize I should just get my oil changed somewhere else, and this clown is like, we already started draining the oil and was super rude about it. I arrived at Midas "on foot" because my tire blew out about a half mile from this location. My technician, James, was quick to my aide. Without question, he loaded up his personal vehicle with all the tools required to peel off the remains of the old tire and replace it with the spare. Did I mention that it was raining? I came to this location for an oil change since they were doing a great price promotion. I had an 8am appointment, and only one other customer was in the place. They got started on my car a little late. The manager said something about needing to call the mechanic to see "where he was already." I thought that was a little unprofessional, but whatever. It's an auto repair shop, not a board meeting. It took a pretty long time to just get my oil changed. I brought work to do, but it was still annoying. Also, I asked if they would look at the tire pressure and fill up any that were low. They said they would do it for free. In the end, they didn't do it at all and forgot. Took my car here awhile ago for a coolant leak, they tried 4 - 5 times to figure it out but couldn't. I took it to a real mechanic and they got it the first try. Turns out Midas put the completely wrong coolant tank on the car, I had to pay a grand for a new radiator which was most likely caused by the wrong tank being on the car. Everyone makes mistakes and it wouldn't be that big of a deal if it wasn't for the boss treating his customers like they are a burden. Just my honest two cents review. read more

My daughter recently became a flight attendant and was assigned at Newark, NJ airport. Her car was still here in KY and needed 4 new tires before heading to NJ. I wanted to find a shop that had a location in NJ for tire warranty and tire rotation included in the price. I had never done any business with Midas before but knew they had been around for awhile. Went on BBB to look at reviews and it appeared good. Made an appointment at Midas in Newport, KY to just get 4 new tires. The day before Midas appointment the car had airbag recall work and a general Honda multi-point inspection completed. Their only concern with the car was that it needed 4 new tires. My daughter and myself dropped the car off the evening before the day of the appointment because I had a work meeting to be at at 8am and Midas didn't open until 8am. Was told specifically that the vehicle would be locked in their store overnight until they could put the tires on the next morning. The next morning they called my daughter to tell her they found a contaminate in the brake fluid and it would cost $600 to fix, but they wouldn't be able to get the part until the next day. My daughter told them she would have to talk to me about it and I wouldn't be out of my meeting until 12:00. My daughter then called Honda dealership to ask if they had a the part(master cylinder). They said they had one but couldn't get her an appointment until next morning at 9 am. My daughter confirmed the appointment. Midas called about 1 hour later to ask my daughter if she wanted the work done. She told them again that she would have to wait to talk to me when I was out of my meeting. She also told Midas that she had made an appointment at Honda dealership for the next morning and that we'd probably take it there. When my daughter picked me up from work and told me everything that had happened, I called Midas to inquire about my daughters car and was told about the contaminate. I then told them to just put the tires on if they hadn't already and that we would take the car somewhere else. I was then told it was not that simple and they had already "prepped" the car to be ready to do the work tomorrow. I asked why they would do work that wasn't authorized and Midas said my daughter had authorized it, to which she adamantly replied she did not authorize any work. She repeated to them that she told them she made an appointment at the dealership, so why would she tell them yes? Midas then tells me it will cost $180 for them to put the old stuff back on. I asked to speak to the manager and he said he was the manager. I then contacted District manager of Midas. He called back and apologized for the "misunderstanding" and informed us that the part had come in then and they can do the work right now. I reluctantly said yes because my daughter had to get back to NJ and she really needed her car. After paying $1300 for tires and master cylinder we left, but the car wasn't driving right so I told my daughter to take it back to Midas. 20 minutes later Midas calls and tells me the contaminate had spread to the rest of the braking system and it would cost an additional $2200 to fix it correctly. I then told Midas I knew this was a scam and told them to put the tires back on and we'll take the car elsewhere. My daughter drove 1 mile from Midas and the car broke down. Had to wait 3 1/2 hours for AAA to tow us to another shop close by and left a message for the shop owner about what happened. The shop owner determined that the car needed to go to Honda dealership to have ABS module, rotors and calipers replaced. When the dealership was done the cost was a little over $5000. I would NEVER do business with Midas. I even reported this whole mess to Midas corporate, but was told each business is privately owned and unless I had an eyewitness or secret hidden cameras that caught the Midas mechanics intentionally doing harm, it was just my word against theirs. I made an appointment for an oil change prior to going on vacation, and ended up needing quite a bit of unexpected work done. Unfortunately I was leaving on vacation the next day so the option for a "second opinion" or "shopping around" was non existent. The mechanics were very nice and prompt but, I unfortunately had to have my services fixed by Ford when returning home. I know a lot of people have not had great experiences with Midas and I was one of them but when my muffler fell off after driving from NJ to KY for my son's wedding, this shop was the only one who could put the car up on the lift immediately and take a look. The owner was so helpful. We explained our situation - we had 2 hours until the rehearsal dinner - and he quickly got the part and installed it. He didn't try to sell us a new tail pipe or catalytic converter - which is often the case. He showed my husband what had happened to the muffler and said he could weld a new one on right away.
