Mark the service writer is a good straight up guy. I brought in two vehicles for service. My van needed exhaust parts they could not get. Free diagnosis and lots of on the phone help tracking down exactly the right part. Had the parts 2 days later. Made an appointment, and they were installed the next day. Charged me for an hours work when they could have charged two. Very happy. Brought in my wife's car that needed a radiator. I had the radiator as I was going to do it myself. I injured my arm so had them do it. Cost to install $100 or an hours work. Spot on. Franz Auto Service to whom I used to be a loyal customer wanted $260, which would have included the $45 radiator. Franz also blew me off on two appointments, did not even call to tell me the car would not be done on time. Mark only from now on on new paltz. read more

I waited over 4 hours to get a tire replaced here recently. It was nice that they were open early in the morning, however that was the only nice part about my visit. After about 1.5 hours I asked for an estimate on when it would be ready and they did not give me a clear answer. I waited in the waiting room another 1.5 hours while many customers came and left. I followed up again going on hour 4, which is when they called to see what was taking so long for the tire to be delivered. After that phone called, I was told the tire was coming from Poughkeepsie and should be there in a half hour. I struggle to understand why this service took so long and why their slogan is "We sell tires", yet the tire sold to me took about 4 hours to be delivered from across the river, not sold in-house. I was very dissatisfied with the service provided, no explanation, sympathy or discount was provided for the inconvenience. They also tried to get me to replace the opposite tire, however I denied the service and consulted with another mechanic in town who said that tire was fine and did not need to be replaced. I got the other tire replaced at Mavis in Poughkeepsie for almost $100 less and their service was much quicker and they were super nice too! read more

I have been a loyal Customer for about 10 years. Both my wife and I have had our cars serviced, inspected, new tires etc at this location. Dropped my car off at 8:55 for a 9 O'clock appointment for an oil change and NYS inspection this morning. I took a walk into downtown New Paltz and returned to the shop around 9:35. I waited in the waiting area until 11 when they told me my car was ready. Unfortunately the car that they tried to give me as Being ready was the same make but was not my car. They had not even moved my car into the work bays and realizing their error they were then going to start the work on my car. I was not a happy customer and decided I needed to take my car elsewhere. When I got into my car to leave, besides the keys to my vehicle, they had left a set of keys to another car inside that had I not noticed would have been a problem for that car owner. We had some other issues over the years but as both my wife and I thought highly of Ted, we stayed customers. My lesson has now been learned and I will go elsewhere. The only statement/explanation made by the staff as to the error was that there were two cars of my make brought in for service. I did not even get an apology for the error until I told the worker that an apology was probably in order. Done venting. Just wasted a couple of hours of my time. (Note to Ted- I do not write negative reviews often or maliciously. Unfortunately, what happened to me today was the kind of customer service that you should be aware of and should not be repeated). My son who is a student at the local college went there to get a light bulb replaced and was charged $60.79 in total - $50 for labor that took all of two minutes!!. If he had gone to a regular garage like I had recommended he would only have paid for the cost of the bulb and a tip to the employee. Total ripoff!! My Honda Odyssey, 200,680 miles on it, showed flashing check engine light as I was traveling on the Thruway over an hour from home. Ted, at Midas in New Paltz, was able to squeeze me in to look at my car, without an appointment. He showed me the bad spark plug, explained the problem in a way I could understand. I used Midas less than a years ago to replace four tires on my truck. I left the truck and was told to return by the end of the day. I returned and the tires were not yet changed out. I returned the following day and the new tires (350.00 each) were replaced. I drove home and realized that one of the tires was leaking air. At this point I drove right back to have the problem rectified. They asked for me to leave the truck again and to come back later so they could trouble shoot the leak.I returned a few hours later and drove away to learn that the tire was still leaking air. Overall I was patient and I prefer to give everyone the benefit of the doubt but I new that this was just wrong. Midas did not apologize or even offer any compensation for the inconvenience. I returned about 6 months later hoping to get a quote on replacing the muffler on my car. I am not the type of person to hold a grudge and I like to move forward on a positive note so I thought I would give Midas another try. I stopped by last Friday to get a price quote to replace the muffler on my car. The gentleman at the counter told me to come back in one week for a price quote because they were too busy. I was not expecting for them to do the work on the fly but I at least thought they could quote me a price and I would be able to return the following week to get the work done. In all this type of service is unacceptable, regardless this garage should he fined or close down for the low level of service and bad customer service. As far as I am concerned Midas should close for business and is a disservice to the local community. Onward...... read more

I recently moved to town from FL, with no idea how to take car of a car in cold weather. I have been to this shop multiple times with a myriad of problems, including oil changes, tire pressure problems, check engine lights suddenly appearing, and battery issues. All of my problems have been fixed within an hour of bringing my car in, and they've never tried to sell me products or services I didn't need. They are also always happy to answer my questions. On multiple occasions I wanted to make an appointment at this location. I receive coupons from this location as I have used them many times in the past. The coupons are for a $19.99 oil change. The last 3 times I called for this service i spoke to Mark everytime. He told me that they do NOT offer this service. I explained that they HAVE performed this service for me multiple times and that his location sent me the coupons,(I do receive them often from this location). He told me that the basic oil change cost $44.99. He then caught a little attitude on the phone so I hung up. I then called Midas customer service and spoke to a rep Barbara who really did NOT take an interest in my concern and explained that someone will contact me within 48 hrs. Yesterday was over a week and I called customer service again and spoke to Antoinette. She took less interest in my concern than Barbara did. She actually hung up on me in the middle of our conversation! I still have NOT heard from anyone regarding my concerns! I STRONGLY DONT RECOMMEND this location or this company! The DO NOT care about customer service. I have used other midas locations for years and never had an issue. After this experience I WILL NEVER USE MIDAS AGAIN! Don't be fooled by the coupons Midas puts out in the money mailers or online for the $19.99 oil change. Yeah so i had to add extra for synthetic oil which came out to$69 after they took only $10 off the full price of a ridiculous $79. I get paying more for synthetic but you are way better off going local to fleet or erichsens, etc. midas gets 3 stars for getting me in quickly on a Saturday. Service was okay but I would have appreciated a heads up on how much extra it was gonna cost before they did the work. Won't fall for this stupid coupon thing again. read more

While driving down the thruway on our way upstate, our tire pressure light came on. To be safe, we pulled in to Midas and asked them to take a look. It was twenty minutes before close on a Friday of a holiday weekend, but they got to our car immediately and did a full inspection of the pressures, the tires, and when they found nothing wrong, they even ran a quick diagnostic scan to see if something was wrong with our notification system. They turned our car around in 15-20 minutes, and even walked us through why the light may have come on and how to turn the notification off once the tires are inspected. They wouldn't even charge us for the work and sent us on our way. We were so thankful for their help - they saved our holiday weekend! :) read more

I'm sad to have to change this review to reduce the number of stars, but I do. I have had nothing but problems from these folks lately. They are super nice guys, but terrible diagnosticians. It's just one thing after another - Misdiagnosing problems and therefore fixing the wrong thing (and of course charging me for that). Telling me things are fixed when they're really not. Been to this location quite a few times until I've finally decided enough was enough. On the face of it, Midas welcomes you with great customer service and that youre getting the biggest bang for your buck; however once the bill comes, I personally feel like I've just been robbed. 200 for an SUV tire that is 130 with installation anywhere else, nearly 90 for a full synthetic oil change which is about 60 maximum anywhere else. If it wasnt for the friendly faces up front and them doing some simple things to my car correctly, theyd be getting one star for their robbery prices. read more

I went here in early august to get an estimate for a complete exhaust system for 2006 Nissan. They said they would get back to me with an estimate after they located the parts. I stopped by there two days later and called in another week and this is four weeks later and still no estimate! Needless to say I didn't wait that long for repair, which I got a more reputable establishment! What's up with that? Couldn't they just let me know they couldn't do it or are they just that lame? In September of last year 2014, I went into this Midas location and met TED, and was getting fixed a noise coming from the front end of my car which was a hole in the exhaust pipe. I was told I would need to get a flange put on it. I waited a week and a half before this simple part came in, they called back (9/8/14). I went back and they installed it, I got in my car turned it on and a loud pop was now being heard, I went back and they said it just needed to be tweaked. They supposedly did, and all seemed to be fine. On the 27th of September I was on my way to a friends place in NJ to help with putting together furniture, on the way there as I got onto I87 something popped and the loud noise came back, in my frustration I got off the newburgh exit, waited 2 and half hours outside Meineke before they opened to have them fix this on going problem. They showed me under the car, that the flange wasn't correctly installed, the bolt was not on the right side to keep in place, So I had to shell out $417.33 to fix this. From a simple part to having most of the parts replaced because of Midas's fault in not installing it properly. I went back to Midas and talked with TED, (who is a nice guy) but doesn't seem to care really for the customer, just go in and get out. I explained my frustration to him and he told me I would get reimbursed for my troubles of the 417.33. Sadly to say this never happened. I wrote to the Fair Business Bureau and Still waiting a response from them. I would tell everyone to avoid at all cost to go to the Midas in New Paltz. I would head to the meineke in Newburgh instead, great crew there. I dont Know if this will ever get resolved. I am very disappointed in Midas at the New paltz Location. read more

I had a very unfortunate experience at this location. I was traveling with a friend upstate and I brought my tire in with a flat. When I picked up my tire my tire pressure light was still illuminated so we went back in to ask why. We were told it would go away after some driving. It never went away so I brought the car to my own local mechanic. He told me the replacement tire was put on with no sensor so the light would never go away. There were so many opportunities for the repair staff to tell me about this. They could have called when they were replacing the tire. They could have told me in person when I asked why the light wasn't going off when I picked the car up. They could have told me when I called to tell them what my mechanic said. It was only after calling them (three times because I was magically disconnected twice) finally the manager told me that he saw in the notes that there was no tire sensor. No one ever told me or asked me if I'd like it replaced. My mechanic told me this is probably because they broke it when they took the tire off. I find this level of service incredibly disappointing and regret that I didn't take it to a different shop. read more
