Came in today for an oil change and the staff was unmasked. I asked if the person at the front had one he could wear when they service me and the guy said no but like he was looking for an argument instead of trying to accommodate customers (in this case someone with a high-risk family member at home) so I left, found another business that complies with local health and safety regulations, and posted this. It was the same guy that another reviewer complained about earlier (older, heavy guy with a pepper beard). Regardless of whatever backwards political views motivate behavior like that, treating customers with that kind of hostility and disregard is not just unprofessional, it's totally disgusting and I don't know why he's still there. read more

I had to get an oil change in my car before going on a long trip, and made an appointment for 8am. As i am told, oil changes should not take more than half an hour nor cost more than $50 if using non synthetic oil. The people here did not even tell me what kind of oil or ask me, but gave me the invoice and said they were using synthetic oil. Aside from that, I had to wait in the extremely cold waiting room for two hours. TWO. HOURS. FOR AN OIL CHANGE! Find somewhere else unless you want to waste your time and your money. read more

Midas in Napa California on Soscol is under new ownership and Eric, the assistant manager, was professional, kind and helpful. I normally go to Rays Repair but they were off for the week so DeeDee at Walgreens referred me to Midas and I'm glad she did. My Maintenance Required light was on and I hate driving with red lights on. They were flexible with appointments and got me in on the same day. The light just needed to be reset and they were very kind and didn't charge me anything. I was very grateful. I would 100% recommend them. read more

The service wasn't too lengthy. Curtis was competent, kind and patient and explained everything I asked. I guess cheap places are good when you don't have money and can't afford to think about what's the best for your car. But a quality service like this gives you the long term assurance you can never get from the cheap places. Update: I was told, with full synthetic oil they were using, my car would not need another oil change for next 10k miles and I paid $320 for that. And now 7k miles later, the engine oil pressure came on. I took my car into another shop. They said you should always change your oil every 3-5k miles and I was damaging the engine. The tech who worked on my car was great and honest! I got a call to pick up my car after I dropped it off for an oil change and a look over the manager had told me that my back brakes are on the rotors. I was baffled by this Because I know what it feels like to drive a car that has worn it breaks out so bad that it's grinding on the rotors! He quoted me $1000 to fix it I asked him if we can just resurface the rotors he said no you can't. I knew one hundred percent my car was not running on the rotors. I took my car to a local guy who just said It needed it back brakes and the rotors are fine. I've been driving my car ever since.Watch out for the manager at Midas he is un honest read more

I had an unfortunate incident right by the corner of Soskol Ave and Third Street and I did not see the low and almost invisible divider on the road. I have a low Mini and so the damage caused by driving over caused more damage that I thought. I called Midas and spoke to Doug. Over the course of the time I was there for them to repair it, it just wasn't the oil pan that was destroyed. Every step of the way, every new discovery that there were more things affected, Doug showed and explained to me why parts have to be replaced. I ended up spending more than I anticipated but I know that these parts have to be replaced. Doug was transparent with me the entire team. After I picked up the car, even the new owner Nauvi called me personally to see how my car was doing. I definitely trust them and will come back for any future car needs. Lowest possible star rate. The manager there is a bs artist. Tried to up sell several items that did not need attention. When my son said no this "manager" became belligerent and held the car hostage and demanded nearly $400. for removing the front disc rotors (which is about 10 minutes per side). I am a machinist and listened to his line of bs until I had enough and told him so. At that point he changed tactics and refused reasonable requests. My son paid his grossly over charged work just to get out of that place. He wanted $1,300.+ for bogus work. He said perfectly good calipers were bad... he might fool some but it's hard to fool a real machinist. NEVER GO THERE. PS: I'm not one to complain about much but this guy is a crook and my next action is a complaint to Cal State Consumers Affairs. read more

He was not wearing a mask, which seems like a courtesy in customer service right now, I don't know whether you're vaccinated or not. I was thoroughly disappointed with my experience at this Midas location. I stopped in for an oil change...which is something I normally would do myself, but finding the time to do this is difficult with my schedule. I stopped in and was quoted a price of around $45. The price is pretty high, but they stated that they would check all fluids and perform an inspection too. Whatever...okay. They said there were 4 cars ahead of mind and asked if i could leave my car with them for a few hours. Few hours...I remember coming in here to save some time, not necessarily money. This whole time, the gentleman helping me was pleasant and was willing to take his time to answer my questions. Okay...I'll leave my car, and invite my friend to join me for lunch down the road. I left my phone number with them so they could call me as soon as my car was done. I signed the estimate agreement for the oil change and went to lunch. No calls...I came back after two hours and was helped by a different employee who presented me with a bill of $257! I asked what happened to just an oil change. Did they personally squeeze the oil out of a dinosaur and fill my car? The employee explained that they flushed my power steering system, changed the oil (duh), and something with the brakes? They apparently stopped there though would hate to see what other BS they would do to my car. I told them that I didn't authorize anything more that JUST an oil change, so I wasn't paying for the additional work. The employee stated that they called me about the work that was "necessary". I showed them my phone and asked if they saw their number listed in the call log. It wasn't. The employee stated that someone "tried" to call....and again I showed him my phone and asked if their number was listed. After a bit of posturing by them, they charged me for the oil change and I left. Not but two miles down the road, I could feel my car beginning to vibrate. As I got back into my neighborhood (East Bay), my car would rattle like crazy at every stop light. I called them back and they said I could bring the car back in and they would "take a look at it." I thought better of this and went right to my dealership. After a day of diagnostics at Honda??? A BROKEN MOTOR MOUNT! WHAT???!! How in God's name did they break a motor mount? Coincidence? Highly doubtful. I would discourage everyone from taking your car here for any work that is needed...even an oil change. I would give a group of Orangutans a box of sledgehammers and ask them to work on it. read more

DO NOT TRUST THESE GUYS! Midas priced my repair $380 over the price charged by the expensive auto repair shop that ultimately performed the repair. I was visiting NAPA from San Francisco when my coolant system developed a leak and all the coolant leaked out. As it was Memorial Day and Midas was the only shop open and only a 1/4 miles away, I drove the short distance to have them take a look. For $29.00 they "inspected" my car and told me that my reservoir tank had cracked and that it would cost me $790. to fix it. And that it could be more than that if they found anything else wrong. Since Midas was the only shop open in NAPA, my choices were to have Midas fix it or tow my car back to San Francisco. After I received the quote, I went outside to grab a sandwich and see if I could price this repair using the internet on my iPhone, when a gentlemen and his wife walking by the shop stopped and told me not trust this shop (especially for an expensive repair like mine) and that I was much better off going somewhere else. At this point I decided to tow my car back to SF and go to a proper repair shop. On Tuesday morning, I took my car to a high end BMW repair shop (which should have cost more than Midas) and they charged me $410.55. That's not a rounding error - its a $380 difference! I am very torn about writing this review - the service was great, but felt that I was treated different due to being an older woman who does not understand much about cars so I was taken advantage of. My battery died on a Sunday afternoon -- called around and Midas was the only place open. I was able to get my car started and drove over. Good: Service was fast -- battery was definitely bad as my car is 5 years old and they replaced it and I was in and out in under an hour. Bad: They never asked me what kind of battery I wanted. It was not until the battery was installed and I was presented with the bill that I was advised they gave me the best battery they had -- One with a 74-month warranty. I will not have this car in 74 months and definitely would not have opted for a battery that cost me almost $200! I believe I should have been informed of my options before they installed the battery, and do feel like this is due to me being a woman (and along the lines of at least one other review on Yelp). I will definitely not be back, and would not recommend if you are a woman unless you are knowledgeable about your options. Disaster! Went in for an oil change. They upsold additional work. When I got car home I noticed a zip ties holding hubcap on. When I cut off the tie the hubcap fell off. Then I noticed that they had over torqued a out nut and sheared it off. They let me drive away without fixing or even mentioning it. It's a 50 mi!e trip. That is CRIMINAL! I sent my son in to get a brake job. It turned out to be the most expensive brake job I have ever paid for. All rotars and brakes replaced for 1K. These guys took advantage of my 18-year-old son. It was supposed to take a couple of hours but instead these guys work until 9 o'clock at night so we waited around while they finished the job. Expensive, and they take advantage of inexperienced auto owners. Not a good experience for me. read more

Curtis was just horrible. I have now tried twice to get an oil change and both times Curtis was there to give his 'special blend' of customer service. First time we tried going in September around noon midweek for a standard oil change, and after telling him we didn't have an appointment he made sure ask us 'why not, what were we thinking?' and was unable to get the car in until much later in the day because we didn't make an appointment online first. After leaving the car for 4 hours, picked up the car and all seemed to be back to normal in the world. Its now a couple months later and needed to get another service done so, and after finding a coupon for $19.99 online, hoped last time was one-off experience decided to go back! After making an appointment online as requested but not getting a confirmation from the local location like the website said, but we decided to go in during the time we sign up for. Once again, there was Curtis. After telling him an oil change was needed and presenting the coupon, he insisted that the car would need synthetic blend or full synthetic and the coupon wouldn't be valid but he'd have look under the hood first. The best he could do was $39.99...So twice the price First tried explaining that we have never used any type of synthetic oil in the car but Curtis wasn't willing to listen. Then, after a google search and checking multiple websites, tried showing him...still not having it. Luckily, I keep all paperwork for the vehicle and showed him the receipt from his location which reflected we did not use synthetic last time. He responded by looking it up in the system and saying whoever entered it, entered it incorrectly. On the receipt it shows him as the person that wrote it up!! This was my key to leave. Now this was just my direct experience but even as I was sitting in the lobby for 5-10 minutes, I saw him treat two other customers poorly as well! One of the issues with a customer who had a coupon because his car 'would need a synthetic blend or full synthetic'...sounds familiar. Its my opinion that a business is chosen to do basis services, such as an oil change, based on price and customer service but its apparent its not clear or important to Curtis over at Midas Napa. They also found several ways to charge me extra and I ended up paying double what they told me originally. They also dented the front of my car.... And put greasy engine parts in my back seat. It's a nickle n' dime chain. Told me my fluids were dirty even though they were all just flushed a few months ago, visual inspection confirms my fluids are indeed still clean. Said belts were frayed, they aren't brand new, but they're not in need of replacement. So got the oil change. Since my truck is white, you can see where the technician who did not wash his hands or take off his gloves grabbed the side of my truck and the driver's side door handle. Generally when other companies change the oil in any of my vehicles they reset the oil life indicator. Not at Midas/SpeeDee Oil Change nor do they put a tag on your windshield with the recommended next milage change. Since I did not witness the oil selection, I can only guess they used the oil I requested. This is not the most professional oil change station. Since all of my requests cost me more than $150+ I am guessing I can get better service at the same or better price. I would not recommend. read more

The only reason I'm giving a star is because they are open on Sunday's and no other tire shop in Napa is. Sloooooow service! Brought truck in at 2pm to swap out 4 tires. It's been on the lift for 2.5 hours with 6 techs working in the shop. Ridiculous!! When we first got here, it took the guy 10 minutes to acknowledge that we'd even walked through the front door. If my truck wasn't already on the lift without tires I would just leave. Don't bring your vehicle here if you can't drop it off for the day. UPDATE: On the way home from Midas, the front end started shaking violently which has never happened before. Took it to another shop as soon as they opened Monday morning and some of the wheel weights were missing...don't EVER take your vehicle to them!!! read more

Come to find they cracked my oil filter cap by tightening it too tight during an oil change and they refused to take responsibility when confronted. It cost me a good figure to fix. The shop that fixed it said I should contact midas because they were liable for damages since they caused the problem. When I called them peacefully and courteously they were down right combative and told me they were infalable and never make mistakes. They hung up on me. I have never had a customer experience like this. Ever. Also reflecting on my experience there were a number of red flags during the oil change. First a sign wavier holding a 19.99 oil change sign got me in the door but in the end they upcharged me on oil and I ended up paying neary 90 dollars for an oil change. During the change I waited in the lobby with my 3 month old infant. A man came out telling me my air filter had mold in it and needed to be replaced for safety of my child and it would cost some 100 dollars or so. I asked to see it he hesitated but brought it to me and pretended to point at mold but there was no mold. I didn't see any whatsoever. I told them to tap it out and put it back in. All the while I thought they are trying to upsell but no biggie. Now with my over tightened cracked oil filter cap and reading about their fraud in the Napa Valley Register I am filing a complaint with the bureau of automotive repairs as I do believe I an a victim of their bad repairs. read more

An absolute waste of time. I had to take my car in for some work, I called in the morning and they said "no problem, bring it and and we will diagnose it and fix it today". I arrive with my car barely running and they say "come back in an hour and a half". After signing some papers I left and came back and the attitude the bigger man with white hair had was just shocking. His demeanor towards me and other customers that were there at the time was absolutely horrible. I then took a mechanic and himself to check my car and they turned my car on and immediately said "okay i can tell what the problem is" then continues to "take a look" at my engine and said you know what? We don't want to touch it, were not going to work on it sorry take it somewhere else. The nerve you need to have to act that way to someone who came to your place of business to have you do the work that you signed up for... I was so mad but I tried to keep it in my head so at least one of us had respect for the other. They basically wasted 3 hours of my time and sent me on my way with a broken car. Do NOT go here even if you need something as little as an oil change done as they have scammed one of my close friends. Horrible customer service and horrible work ethic. read more

DO NOT GO HERE!!! Terrible experience! Went in with flat battery, they told us 1.5hrs to charge & test the system. 3hrs later we were still waiting! Then they said alternator was broken, so at great cost installed a new one & sent us on our way. Couple of days later the car won't start again! Now we are miles from the nearest Midas where the warranty can be used. Since opening the bonnet to jump the car, we found the air filter housing had been incorrectly installed, and had been leaking dirty air into the engine( this should be a simple thing to get correct!). After looking more in the engine bay I found a nut sitting on a ledge. Where did it come from? It sure wasn't there before! The troubles were impacting our trip, but now they are going to throw our whole trip out!! Very upset with their work & failure to fix our car. Will never be going back!! read more

I've had my oil changed her before and it was a great experience. I just narrowly missed being in a car accident and veered off the road into some field/ditch area. I took my car to a different place first to get it inspected, told them I had just almost been in an accident and he said he didn't have time to take me and scheduled me for a time tomorrow. That made me angry cause I needed my car checked. So I drove down the road a little to Midas, told them the same story and the man (who seemed to be the manager) was more than happy to take my car right then and inspect it for free. I had a repair done which was going to be expensive and they also added a warranty. I appreciate it but I didn't want it because I told them I was going to sell my car in a couple months but they said I had to get it. It's part of the repair charges blah, blah, blah. When a repair is already expensive, its not right to force a warranty which is gonna cost quite some money, specially when other Midas locations don't do the same. They bait and switched me from the $39 oil change to the $69 version, but then they really overexposed themselves with the $100 quote to replace my headlight. I drove to Napa, bought my $26 headlight and put it in myself. If I paid $26, Midas's cost would have been $15, meaning that their operating margin is, humm, a little high.
