Caution ! I recently had a very frustrating experience at Midas Auto Service located at 1621 N Highway 17 Mt Pleasant SC. My wife took her car in for an oil change, which was supposed to cost around $41.69 after a 50% coupon. However, the technician removed all the wheels for a brake inspection and ended up breaking three wheel studs on one of the wheels, making the car inoperable. This mistake was entirely their fault, yet we were forced to pay $386 for the replacement of the broken bolts and nuts, just to get the car back on the road. To make matters worse, the manager refused to negotiate or offer any reasonable solution. Despite offering to cover half the cost of the parts and labor, the manager wouldn't budge. At any other shop, this issue would have been resolved quickly and fairly, but that wasn't the case here. Overall, the experience was extremely disappointing, and it left us feeling taken advantage of. read more

Way too expensive!!! I came into Midas needing a diagnostic as my car was having issues starting. They identified the issue being with the battery. The diagnosis alone was $230 for them to tell me that. They said the a new battery would be $200 which in my opinion was fine, but then they charged another $180 for the labor. So all in I paid close to $700 for a battery replacement. Bunch of crooks! read more

Could not get to the bottom of my check engine light as they couldn't get a hold of Stellantis (Jeep) to get an idea what the code meant. Waste of 2 hours. At least they didn't charge me. Overall: If I ever get another fixable flat (knock on wood), I'll come back for another visit. The good: Quote to fix a flat was reasonable and didn't change after they were finished. Was a "walk in" and had to wait about and hour and a half, which wasn't too bad given the amount of other folks in there. Service was friendly and helpful. The not-so-good: Small waiting area, so if you decide to stick around (which I did), it get crowded quickly. Not a lot of parking. read more

I had an appointment for an oil change at 1 o'clock today. I arrived on time and handed the keys over after the two ladies at the desk finished their conversation and acknowledged me. Not a very professional beginning, but not uncommon for customer service at an auto shop. I told her I had a coupon, which she didn't respond to, but began typing in the order. I asked her if she needed to scan it and she said nope and told me I'd pay after. I then sat down and waited. The lobby was good - it had a tv and a fairly clean bathroom. No complaints. I peaked out periodically and noticed my car was still parked each time I checked. After an hour of waiting with no car movement or staff input I asked how much longer it might be for them to get it in. The lady at the desk went outside and came back and said there was a miscommunication and they'd get it right in. I've worked with the public so I try to give the benefit of the doubt. She blamed the technician for being too focused and not paying attention. Again, unprofessional, but still only below average for one of these shops. I waited another hour and a half (~3:40pm for a 1pm appt) and my car was ready to go. Oil change seemed good, no issues with that. Safe to say I will pay a little extra to go back to Take Five Oil Change next time. read more

I gave this Midas a very bad review about a year ago. I needed new tires, an alignment (I had purchased the 3-year alignment and lifetime brake packages at Midas previously), and an oil change. I shopped around for the tires and decided, since I had heard recently they had new management, to call Midas. I spoke with Cory and Santo and told them what I needed. They said they would get back to me with a quote. They got back to me very quickly and with a few specials on the tires and a coupon for the oil change (I use full synthetic and have a truck that takes 7 quarts), their quote beat the others by quite a bit. I set the appointment for 2 days later. On the day of my appointment, I got held up at work and called Santo. He said no problem and to come when I could. The work was done pretty quickly for what I had done and the service was great. They were friendly, polite, and accommodating. Midas has gotten my business back. read more

Exceptional customer service. I blow a tire and was about to blow a second front tire due to an alignment issue. Santo and Ami took exception care from the moment I walked in, to the full assessment to the price. They paid for an Uber the next day to return for my car and I had a six-pack of Yuengling as a gift (Inside joke). The quality, the pricing, the smiles were top notch. UPDATE: the damage is now an additional $6000 (September) in addition to the $1500 we paid on NYE in Blacksburg hoping to fix the damage caused, and the $900 in January at our local dealer. Don't take your BMW even for a simple oil change here unless you want your car destroyed. What a bunch of crooks. Oil change quoted as $65, charged $124. Service light came on next day, told us it would be $99 to run a diagnostic test. You would think Midas in NJ would be have the dastardly folk, but no, it's here in sweet SC. Lol--they emailed saying "give me your name & number". 1. How many NJ plates have been in your shop these past 48 hours? 2. We are headed to Blacksburg, VA, today (Saturday) with a Schreeching sound. Why not delay the prepaid cabin and Biltmore tickets, pay for another night in SC, just to be bilked out even more $$$ while this smiley place takes us for another ride? Hmm. 3. Took my truck in to have an exhaust leak repaired. Repair consisted of replacing 2 small sections of straight pipe, approximately 3 feet in length for each piece. A total of 4 welds were done. i was told it would take 2 to 3 hrs to do the job, which I thought was a long time for the little bit of work to be done but I took them for their word, which i found out was a big mistake. Work was completed in one hour, which made more sense to me because I've been working on cars for a long time and I knew exactly what was causing the leak and what needed to be done. ( I just don't have a lift). I have also been going to this shop off and on for many many years for exhaust problems and had always been treated fairly until now. The bill was 502.00 with 460.00 going towards labor at 198.00 per hour, which is wrong in itself, but I didn't ask because as I said I felt good about the way I was treated before so I was expecting the same result. I picked up my truck I asked why the labor was so high and was told that the estimated time for the repair was 2 hrs. So that's what I owed. I disagreed but the manager said it was done so quick because the technician was really good, Which is a line of Bull. Muffler shops do not hire exhaust guys that aren't good. Just another way of milking the customer. On top of everything I was also charged 40.00 for looking under the truck to see what the problem was. He called it an exhaust inspection. This is the most dishonest place I have ever experienced in my life. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. read more

Traveling to Fl in our camper van & noticed we had an issue with the front end of the vehicle. We decided to stay over night & take it in for front end alignment. Called and spoke to Cory who got me in immediate. Cory was professional & very courteous. Didn't catch the guys name who checked me in but he was all over it as soon as we walked in the door. They went over all services provided with a front end alignment & proceeded to get my keys and take the van back. They advised it would take about an hour. As they were doing their checks they noticed that we had a broken strut bolt on the passenger side front. So happy we decided to stop. They got all work done efficiently in less than two hours.I highly recommend this shop and am super appreciative of all aspects of my experience with everyone at this shop. read more

I will never take another vehicle to this Midas. They told me that my wife's car needed front disc brakes and rotors. Came home and measured the rotors with my digital caliper and then called the dealership to determine the rotor thickness to turn. The spec is 21mm and her rotors are 27 to 29 mm. Luckily, I remembered the rotors had never turned. Also, all of the depths on the tire tread were less than the Honda Dealer. Either the mechanic can't use a caliper or else. A $661 estimate became a $235.00 repair at the dealership. read more

Called Midas an ask if they can replace headlights on my 2014 Nissan Altima I was told yes asked did I need an appointment was told no come on by got there someone came out an popped the hood an took a look at the lights that I brought with me an was told that they could get it done went back inside he told me that he need to get some information after he said it would take about an hour never gave me a flat rate but did say $400. I'm thinking this must be a hard lengthy job my car was taken into the garage around 9:30am my car front drivers bumper was sticking out gets a little so I ask since they were taking the bumper off to replace the light can they clamp that back for me at 10:00 my car was already finished I was like what that was fast he told me that this guy use to work at a body shop so he got it done quicker than the time I was given less than 30 minutes for $400 an the bumper was still pushed out because he didn't have enough time to fix that off but you already have the bumper off anyway I didn't want to disturb the place of business so can me home an called the other Midas an asked what's there price to have this job don't they told me if the bumper have to be removed it would be $200 if not it would be about $110 I told them what I was charged an they advise me to call or go back to them because the charges was incorrect an on top of that they charged me $34. for a shop fee called them back an got the run around a ended up calling cooperate they wanted to offer me free oil changes but I refused because I should have only paid for the service that I got done which was the $200 hour flat rate that they say they charge. This message is if you decide to use them make sure you ask questions about the charges an any extra fees before receiving the service I got screwed hope this help someone I will never use then ever again! My fiancee tried to drop off a tire here while I was away for a work trip. They quoted her $350...this seemed high so she called me to check and she was correct to think this price was very high. I advised her to go check at Gerald's right next door (literally) and the same tire and service was $232.48. Are Midas's prices just that much higher or do they try and take advantage of people who seemingly don't know much about these things? One can only speculate.... I recently took my vehicle to Midas for a simple oil change (Bought the car less than 6 months ago). While at brunch, waiting on my car, I get a phone call telling me I need all the fluids in my car flushed. I asked "how much extra will that cost." The reply was "$48.70" (exact words - fourty-eight, seventy). So i said, oh only 50 bucks, sure go ahead. Pick up my vehicle the next day and the gentleman tells me to swipe my card for $487. Uh WHATTT.. NO. That is NOT what I agreed to.. I was told an exate $48.70. Hm.. whoops.. heres a gift card for a free oil change. I am a graduate student at MUSC and this completely ruined my summer budget. So, thanks for the free oil change that will do nothing to help me pay my bills. I was completely lied to, and blind sided. I will tell everyone I ever encounter NOT to do business with this company. read more

Brought my car in for an oil change and brake job. When the job was done, I noticed a very obvious scratch on my leather steering wheel that was not present when I dropped the car off. Spoke with the owner and asked for Midas to refund some of my money to cover a repair. The owner instead found a TSB for my vehicle model and used it to claim they weren't responsible for scratching it because the steering wheel is 'prone to premature wear'. I drove this vehicle for 5 years and never scratched it, but they had it for 3 hours and suddenly this 'premature wear' shows up in the form of a scratch. BS. During a call with the owner, when it became clear I wasn't going to accept the excuse, he started trying to claim the scratch didn't happen at the shop. Don't trust these guys with your car, they won't take care of it and they will not do the right thing if they damage it. read more

I took my Expedition to Gerald's Tire next door in the spring requesting a brake replacement. They assured me that the brakes were fine and I had plenty of life left in them. Two weeks ago I felt a pulsating through the steering wheel took it to Midas and they had to get the brakes and the rotors replaced. They ended up having to torch off one of the rotors. I drive to and from work and never take this truck on vacations. Gerald's has lost a customer. Plus it's just nice to be able to call your mechanic and get your car in the same day, call Gerald's and you have to wait two weeks for an appointment. I choose MIDAS! read more

I showed up for my SCHEDULED appointment to be told a tech was out and they are super backed up and my oil change will take 2 + hours. I asked why he hadn't called me (it was the afternoon) and he LAUGHED at me! I would have been happy to reschedule with a phone call. Apparently my time is less important or any effort I had made to get off work inconsequential. Used this Midas for years. Will not use them again. They insisted on using synthetic oil. I have never used this type oil before and get my oil changed regularly. Yay Midas! I moved to the area fairly recently, so this was my first try with car services in the Charleston area. The guys at Midas took care of me. I just needed an oil change and tire rotation. I was in and out in 45 minutes over my lunch break with an appointment easily booked online the day before. They're great about having coupons available online too, so a little extra savings doesn't hurt! Everyone up front is super nice and helpful. They said my car was just fine, no repairs needed. I don't think I've ever been to another shop who hasn't found something to at least mention checking or fixing as an upsell. That alone will make me a repeat customer! read more

SCAN SCAM! Mislead regarding Check Engine Light diagnostic charge. I called to make sure service would be free per their coupon online "Free Code Scan." I made it very clear over the phone I needed to know what was wrong and not just "codes" that, to me, are useless. When I arrived to drop off car, I was told the coupon is just for getting codes and it would cost $99 to get the codes interpreted. What?! Although upset, I asked if they would at minimum match a competitor up the street to diagnose the issue ($55). Not a shock that they refused. To me, this is a scam to get you in the door. Called Midas and David rolled up 15 minutes later and jumped me off and I drove over to Midas and they replaced the battery (no small feat in this hybrid) and changed the oil in about a half hour. EXCELLENT! . . . My second visit was a direct result from my first visit. This Midas Service Center got me up and rolling again immediately following a front tire blow-out which prompted my first visit. I just happened to be close to this location when the front tire blew-out. In no time at all, a service mechanic checked my brakes and replaced all four well-worn tires. I could have pulled into Gerald's Tires (almost next door!), but I'm glad I pulled into Midas instead. I had milked those old tires for all they were worth; that poor decision nearly cost me an accident. I couldn't help but notice an occasional email from this Midas store. The Herlong family who owns this particular franchise must be "good people." This was confirmed for me during both visits. The employees are second to none, especially regarding customer service and proficiency in properly servicing automobiles in an efficient and timely manner Thanks to this Midas store, I'm in the habit of heeding necessary preventive maintenance from their staff, even on my very limited budget. Greg, the up-front Service Manager who checked me in this time, treated me like a VIP. He made me feel like a welcomed long-time customer. After checking me in, Greg kept me apprise of the service being done for my car, giving me clear options for needed and recommended service. Their coffee is pretty good, too. And the bathroom is clean! I would highly recommend this Midas store to everyone, but, selfishly, I don't want EVERYONE to go there . . . Mount Pleasant is already too crowded as it is! I cherish this family-oriented, smaller service center that reminds me of the Mt. Pleasant of yester-year. Hwy 17N is now a very busy road, but this Midas store isn't TOO busy for people like me. read more

Went in while on vacation due to rear brake issue. Told them I needed rear brake pads and right rear rotor replaced. They said they could get me in the next day, which was great. I ask for a generalized estimate. He stated it would be $450-$500. I did they exact same procedure myself for around $115 paying retail price for the parts. I don't see $300-$400 in labor. I went down the road and had it done for $250. read more

I was traveling for the Thanksgiving holiday from the Philly area to Mount Pleasant, SC to visit my folks and on my long road trip had 'almost' avoided a pothole in the center lane of I-95S on the way down. I did catch the edge of it, jolting the car. My Saab is very low to the ground, being a sports car. I'd noticed a loud noise coming from my exhaust system and my "check engine light' had come on. I'd had a computer check at an Autozone in Rocky Mount,NC where we were spending the night, which pointed to my catalytic converter. I then took it to a tire store that was open (of course this was a Sunday) and they put it on their more sophisticated computer and confirmed it and informed me I'd be OK to drive to SC but to have a muffler shop look at it when I got there. Upon reaching my destination, I went to this Midas dealer. Frank and Greg were SO helpful, professional and took care of me in an expeditious manner. Their mechanic identified the problem, a crack in the catalytic converter, took it off, welded it (saving me big bucks not having to buy a new one) and off I went on my journey, comforted in the knowledge that my car was in 'tiptop' shape for the next 8 days we'd be on the road. This had gone on over 2 days, because I was considering waiting till I got home to have my mechanics fix it- I'd called them from SC and they assured me it would be OK to drive it that way. But I didn't want to take a chance and Frank fit me right in after I'd decided to have the repair done there. Southern Hospitality at its Best! read more
