    Jessie R.

June 1, I went to to Midas. More specifically the Littleton, Colorado location located at, 8270 s Holly Street. They charged me $100 upfront for the diagnostic test and said it would be applied towards my overall bill had I completed my work with them but would have been charged this regardless if I did not. So naturally when they told me I needed a new set of spark plugs and ignition wires I left my car with them to complete the work. My car was running again! This is good because I moved out to North Carolina. I started having small issues accelerating but thought nothing of it as it is a 2009 vehicle and just drove it a long distance. I was driving home from my new job August 11, my car was struggling and the check engine light started flashing at me. As I am not a car expert, I took my car in the following morning to a Firestone next door to work so I could leave it there and walk to work. The only Midas locations in my new hometown were all permanently closed. Firestone called me to inform me one of my ignition wires was not plugged in, instead it was laying across my exhaust and had burned through. I had them complete the work for me. This cost me another $370.03 that I absolutely DID NOT need to pay for since I had already paid to have this work done by an apparently negligent mechanic. I called the store to speak to the manager and again, I am not car expert, I ended up going back in to Firestone to have the mechanics speak to this manager. Who then offered to reimburse me the $139.98 for the ignition wire but "did not charge you for a diagnostics test" so that's the best they would offer. I called corporate in full understanding that these locations are a franchise. They told me a district manager or a shop owner would be in touch with me. 1 week later I still have not heard from anyone. When I called corporate to follow up on the case number I opened, he kept saying "had you called Midas they would have recommended somewhere that would have been able to cover the costs". While I continuously repeated how this work was JUST DONE and it should NOT have been the result of my check engine light flashing! So of course I went to the closest mechanic to work thinking it must be something completely different! I was not going to call up Midas (especially since there is not a single one remotely close to the town I live in now) and ask if they had screwed up the work they did and why is my check engine light on. Midas should be held responsible for the full reimbursement. This is a $370.03 I would not have had to pay had the work at this shop been completed correctly the first time! I work hard for my money and let's be honest I don't have a lot, so for some of us $370.03 was a significant amount to throw out on something a second time. NOT TO MENTION, not a single person had called me since I called a week ago but apparently the "higher up management" decided they would only pay back for the ignition wires. THANKS FOR LETTING ME KNOW! I am attaching both the Midas receipt and Firestone as well as the photo of my burnt ignition wire that Firestone let me keep. I am taking to social media because I was wronged and they are not making it right. I won't be walked over about this, I am a women with a lack of knowledge how cars work but I do know wrong from right. And I think the Midas off of Holly Street in Littleton deserves a big shout out for their lack of attention to detail and lack of responsibility and lack or care for customers. If anyone is willing to share it would be greatly appreciated. Even if I don't see a dime back after this I don't care, don't go to this Midas.

On Saturday October 12th, my fiancé and I brought my 2018 Subaru BRZ to Kevin and crew to install our new aftermarket MXP Comp RS exhaust system that we had just had delivered, brand new, in the box, sealed in plastic/bubble wrap, on the preceding Thursday night. The system cost us over $700. As instructed by Kevin, my fiancé carried the packaged exhaust system inside Midas and set it down in the service bay and we left for the morning while it was installed. When we were called that afternoon to pick the car up, my fiancé noticed one of the exhaust tips was visibly scratched. It appeared the system was "walked" or dragged across the concrete bay floor. Immediately bringing it to Kevin's attention, he stated "well, I guess I'm buying you a new tip." When it was time to pay, I asked my fiancé if we should refuse to pay for the installation fees until the situation was remedied, but he decided to give Midas/Kevin the benefit of the doubt and pay for services rendered with the understanding that we would at least be compensated for the damage. Kevin knocked $40 off of the install ($200 paid), included a handwritten IOU for the damaged tip with his signature on the receipt, and told us to expect a call within the week upon speaking with the location's manager/owner. The reason for this was presumably due to the fact that the tips only come as a 2 piece set and costs $180 from the manufacturer. Kevin told us to expect a call the following week after he received the okay to order the tips. My fiancé called on Thursday 10/17 to follow up and spoke with Isaiah who handed the call back to Kevin who told us again to standby for a phone call, this time by Friday at lunchtime. Friday at lunchtime came and went without a phone call as promised by Kevin so I visited Midas after work to follow up in person. When I walked in, I was not greeted, but rather Kevin began nervously laughing and put his hands up while telling me that he hadn't forgotten about me and that he was still waiting to hear from the manager/owner. I asked him to please let his manager/owner know that we were just a couple of days away from filing a formal complaint to which he said "okay" as I left the shop. As of this morning, it has been 6 business days since the date of installation and my fiancé and I have not once been contacted by Kevin or a shop manager/owner on rectifying the mistake made by Midas employees so I have moved forward with the complaint through corporate. I will also leave this review on Yelp and file a similar report through the Better Business Bureau. I am hoping they will follow through with their promise to order us the part(s) that their employees damaged as I paid $200 for them to damage it. If I wanted to damage aftermarket parts during installation, surely the company knows I could have handled that on my own for free.

They referred us to the Kia dealer, which I knew would be very expensive. So I did some research online and found Franklynn Automotive. I called and described the situation to Steve. He said they likely can handle it, but would start with a complimentary second opinion. After their inspection, they determined that the hose does not need to be replaced and we only needed to refresh the refrigerant, which they do have the equipment for. In addition, the reason the other shop might have suggested the hose replacement was because of a leak related to the axel. All in, the repairs would be substantially less than the dealer quote for work that may not have been needed in the first place. Overall, great experience with Franklynn.

He was the reason I wanted to get the suspension serviced here as his explanation of what I needed done showed his mastery of his craft. However after taking the car to Tesla to get a 2nd opinion I discovered that this shop (not the tech) was trying to charge me literally a 200% markup on the parts to do the repair. Crazy right!!! The genuine Tesla parts for the repair were $209 and these guys quoted those same parts out to $614 (I sent him the estimate from Tesla with the exact cost of the parts). Unfortunately for me Tesla wouldn't work on the car because of an aftermarket body kit the previous owner had installed. I really liked the mechanic at this shop, so I went back to this shop with the intention to move forward even though their cost was literally 56% more ($1,635 vs $2,555) then Tesla for the same work (because of the price gouging on the parts). Then when I asked about it before my approval to move forward the manager got snarky and said how would you expect us to stay in business if we don't markup the parts. I said and I quote "I get a markup on the parts and your high hourly rate for the labor on the work but not a 200% markup on the parts." The guy gave an excuse about the software they use but was unwilling to budge on the price gouging. I literally said why don't you let me buy the parts directly from Tesla and you can still mark them up 25% and he still said no. I was completely professional throughout the conversation, but obviously would not pay a 200% markup on parts on top of the already top of market labor they charge. After the conversation he texted me back and we agreed to not move forward. I only leave this review to warn others. It's a bad business practice to over charge people like that and so I just wanted to give people my story warning them to watch out and be careful before doing any work here. Update: this slime ball's disclosure of all the information I gave his manager, Steve, in good faith is abhorrent. Everything he mentioned on the car was told to them right up front as I told it to the manager, Steve, in person and this clown is repeating word for word what I told his manager. I was cool with this at first but this guy is a complete scum bag now using my own words and lying about it. Anyways besides being a scum bag, no effort at all was made regarding the parts and this shops 200% markup. I literally told the guy running the shop I would buy the parts myself and let them mark it up 25% and still the answer was a quick no. Everything I said was honest and accurate and don't appreciate this guy claiming transparency when his long shpeel was essentially just a my own words complaining about the car I bought and his shops poor excuse for price gauging. They could have done the job without gauging me on the price given I had the option to buy the parts myself. Not cool at all the response from this guy and his piss poor excuse for attempting to rip me off.

You did both at same time! I stated I would pay for the strut mount as it was also recommended by dealership asterisk causing issue since the strut mounts were not replaced in the beginning which is recommended when replacing struts but you decided not to for some reason. Your timeline of events is off Vlad. I immediately complained about the issues with installation and just about every week for months called to see when I could get car in to have it looked at. I offered multiple times to see if anything else needed replaced at my cost. At no time did you tell me that replacing all of the struts and shocks back to oem was at no cost to me. In fact you told me it would be an expense you didn't want to deal with and I responded didn't want to spend additional few thousand dollars to do that. I asked you several times to look at everything and see what the possible issue is, you would not do this, and your response to me is "you tell me what you want me to do"! I mean really? You are supposed to be the bmw expert and you're asking me what to do? I even said multiple times if you think it is the aftermarket control arms then please quote me to replace and let's see if that solves the problem. To this date I still have no quote from you. But here we are 6 months later and I have brought this car to you several times to allow you to fix this properly and you still can't. It's not my fault your work and installation has caused this issue. I gave you every chance to make this right and you decided not to.

It took them a week longer to get the work done than we were originally told. Once they finally installed the transmission, we were told that it came with a faulty sensor, and that they would have to get the part from Honda. They then charged us for the faulty sensor that came with the transmission -- almost $300. The initial quote for a new transmission was $10,000 parts and labor. They said that they could get a certified, refurbished one and drop the price to closer to $8,000. We chose to go with the certified refurbished transmission (while we were waiting for the work to be done, 4 hours after we showed up -- and it was still the next day before they finished it -- the manager was talking to us and saying that a brand new transmission for the car would have been $16,000 -- even though 2 weeks before he had quoted us $10,000). The final bill, with the other things they added on, was $9,700 (which turns out to be significantly more than what we were told and more than other shops would charge). They also told us a list of things that needed to be dealt with that were problems with the car. I was curious simply because I heard three other customers being told that they had similar issues that needed to be dealt with. Driving the car the next day, there was a weird squeaking sound. We took it to another shop to see if they could diagnose the problem -- a number of the bolts holding the transmission were loose! They tightened them up and the sound disappeared. Not only was the work very late and overpriced, it was shoddy. We also asked this shop to check the other issues that Saul's Autotek had said were issues that needed to be addressed, and we were told that those "issues" were fine.

The sensor was reading 28 psi. While travelling to Yellowstone National Park, this light came on, and I pulled over and checked for a nail (I didn't find any). I stopped at the nearest gas station to check the air in that tire and it was fine. I put a little more air in that tire just to be sure. The gauge read 40 psi+, the dash displayed 28 psi (and did not change). What I realized later was that I put air in a tire that did not need it and overinflated to approximately 40 psi. When I arrived back in town from our vacation, I instructed the technicians to check all the tires and have them all inflated to 35 psi (Per the manufacturer's recommendation). When I picked up my truck, the low tire pressure light was off, but now ALL the tires were reading 46-47 psi! I asked the tech about this and he said, "Yeah, when you brought it in, all of the tires were really low - the highest one had 17 psi. So, I inflated all the tires to 35 psi, as instructed." When asked why the display on my dash said 46 - 47 psi, he shrugged and said something to the effect that sometimes the sensors are off a little. I questioned why they would be "off" by 10+ psi. So, the next day, I took the truck to the Discount Tire next door and had them double-check the air pressure. Just as I suspected, ALL of the tires were OVER-INFLATED to 46 psi! As the tires were being deflated by the technician at Discount Tire, the sensor for the first tire did not match the tire being deflated. According to Google, " TPMS sensors need to be reset (relearned) on GMC trucks after a tire rotation to ensure the vehicle correctly identifies the new location of each tire. This prevents the driver information center from displaying wrong tire pressures for specific positions. The process is often called a "TPMS Relearn." This process was not done at Service Street. If a technician can't do something as simple as inflate a tire to the proper tire pressure, how can they be trusted to do something more technical? This company has lost my business. P.S. I want my money back for the other pre-paid oil changes. I'll take my business elsewhere.
