My family and I went in today for a few issues with our car. We really weren't expecting such a huge bill and such a long wait, we were there for about 7 and 1/2 hours. Although these seem like a really BAD thing, the employees were incredible to us. We walked around Hudson for a long time, and one of the employees, Lillian, came to find us and offered to drive us to a store to wait at with our kids. Last year this Midas charged my friend over $850 to replace a bad alternator in his 2009 Toyota Matrix, with a remanufactured alternator. A year later the new alternator failed, brought it back to Midas for warranty on their 2 year/24000 mile warranty. They tried charging my friend over $100 for labor when the company website clearly states that replacement parts AND LABOR are free for warranty service. I talked to the manager because my friend doesn't speak great English, he said he'd have to check the website to verify that warranty policy. THE NERVE! He knew damn well he'd been caught and wouldn't admit it. In the end my friend got the work done for free but they tried ripping him off. A SECOND time. $850 for an alternator? It's not a BMW!! DO NOT BRING YOUR CAR HERE. Went in for four new tires. Talked me into replacing suspension for all of the tires saying it was highly recommended for my safety. Not upfront with the total cost and was shocked when I was charged $3000. Day 1, eight hours spent waiting for tires that I was told would come 'soon'. Never came so booked myself in for the next day. At the end of Day 2 they called me and told me they put on the wrong suspension on all of the tires. They were clearly pissed when I said I couldnt leave my car with them. Ten hours spent doing the wrong thing on my car... Day 3 all four tires were finally on. 3 months later, have found that they didn't tell me I need an alignment, breaks needed fluid and I got a flat today and was told by Mavis AND Triple AAA that they couldn't get my tire off because the bolts had been stripped by Midas. Horrible experience, enough said. Will never EVER bring my car here again. read more

On rare occasions, I'm disappointed with yelp in that you have to select from one to five stars. In this instance, if there was a zero option, I would choose that. My muffler had separated from the pipe and was making a lot of noise. I stopped in for an estimate. I was told that they would have a technician look at it in a few minutes. After a half hour nothing had been done so I asked how much longer it would be, and at that point the guy behind the desk went out to the service area and had somebody put the car up on a lift and check it out. The technician confirmed what I already knew, took the car off the lift and provided some paperwork to the front desk. 15 minutes went by and then someone brought in my keys to the desk and asked where they belonged. The guy behind the desk had a puzzled look. I said "those are my keys" and it looked as though a bell went off in the front desk guy's head because he remarked "oh, and I have the papers right here." A few minutes later, he gave me the estimate. After a quick look, I exclaimed out loud so that the other customers could hear me "I can't believe it. Your estimate is higher than I got from the Subaru dealer!". The response was "what dealer"? I said, "what difference does it make?" I've never had a dealer's price lower than that of a retail automotive repair shop. And in this case, the dealer was also going to pick up the car at my home and then drop it off when the job was complete. Midas: Shame on you! read more

Took my van there for a new tire due to a screw in it. They had the new tire ready to put on but they looked at it and decided I didn't need a whole new tire but simply plugged the hole! Nice! Honest ladies worked on my van and didn't take the hole as the death of the tire. So refreshing to find people not out for money. I will be going back to them again. I took my car to the dealer for an oil change and they said that it was time to rotate my tires as well. No problem. When they were done my tire light was still on. I go back in and ask if adjusting the tire pressure was a part of the oil change and/or rotation. They told me that the cap on the tire stem had oxidation and they could not get it off. Assuming me that the tires were fine. 2 months later, it's time for another oil change. They call me to say that for $300 they can replace the stem on both back tires because now one is leaking air through the stem but they still can't get it off. I say NO. This morning I decide to drive to Hudson, 35 minutes from my home and choose this spot because it has great customer service reviews. Sure enough, they replaced the steel caps on all 4 tires for FREE! Took about 10 minutes. So awesome, they were friendly and I will bring my car here again. read more

I would give 1/2 star but lowest is 1. Stay away from this over priced ripoff. My car broke down in front of the place. I knew it was the starter and left the car with them to confirm and possibly fix. The following day they called me and said yes it was the starter and it would cost $580 to repair. The car is a 2007 Honda Civic. One thing I Know about Honda is that it's not expensive to replace a starter. I became suspicious at the high rate and called a local mechanic for a quote. His exact words were "Wow you are royally taking it in the A**. He quotes me $300 installed with tax included. I called Midas told them I would be over to have the car towed. When I got there some guy who looked like a junkie said it there was a $30 fee for looking at the car. When I told him they did nothing he replied "we are not working for free" I paid and left. That my friends is being foolish. They lost me as a client and I will forever bash them. Stay far away from these professional crooks!!! read more

My Mom takes her car to MIDAS in HUDSON NY. She is 89 years young. They told her they could fix her horn. Then she need a new break line and the job end up costing $366.00. Got the car home and it would not start what a rip off. They said it not there problem. Also the HALO BOLT car starter is missing out of her car. Here's a real review because I don't know about the other ones. I brought my car there to get a ball joint replaced. They told me the part alone cost $135-my phone was dead, so I had no reference and didn't believe that since I've done a lot of my own work before on cars. I stated that I didn't believe the part cost that much, and asked where they bought it from. They were very reluctant on telling me at first, and ended up saying they get all there premium parts from advance auto and Napa and then knocked 20 dollars off the price and admitted the part was too high on their system. As soon as I got my car back I went straight to Napa and had them print me out the cost of the part and they looked up advance auto which was only 33 Dollars???!! I still kept my composure and went there professionally and highlighted the price for them so it was clear to them that I know I been robbed. I told them to fix it and explained how upset I was that these people lied to me and Gabriel the manager did nothing about it. You can tell by his face he knew he was guilty and he just conned his way around it until I just said screw it and walked out. A part should never be booked up that high from any mechanic shop. These people are crooks and I guess I'll just count my losses this time but I wanted to warn everybody else. Let the buyer beware right. Don't go here! read more

I have been to this Midas multiple times. The service is outstanding and they are always very honest with me. Other repair shops in the area were convincing me to get work done that I did not need. Midas was honest and did not try to con me into work that I did not need. On top of that, they were very fast, getting my breaks changed in 1/2 the time it was originally suppose to take. read more

My car broke down when I was vacationing in Hudson. I called three places and Midas said they could get me in that day. Since I needed to travel to my next destination and was paying for a rental car, I had it towed there thinking I could get my car back quickly. What a mistake. Obviously saying they could get to it that day was a rouse because they didn't get to my vehicle until 3 days later. They never communicated with me and I would have to call to check on progress a couple times a day. Staff is not friendly. Shop is dirty. They over charged me because they knew they had me over a barrel and to top it off, after repairing my brakes they told me that they didn't know how to get the brake light off. I told them just to leave it, as long as I could get home I'd take it to my usual place. I had to laugh when I got in my car because it wasn't even the brake light that was on, it was the tire pressure light. I wonder how hard they tried to fix it since they didn't even know the difference between a yellow tire pressure light and a red brake light. Maybe they should try looking into a car manual sometime. When I took it into my normal mechanic, he had to patch up the work they had done. Stay away from this place is my best advice. read more

I would give them no stars if that was an option. Stay away. Do not get your car inspected there, or your oil changed. They failed me for unnecessary reasons. I went somewhere else and passed with flying colors. They failed my inspection for a problem that did not actually exist. I guess they wanted me to pay for repairs that were not needed. Especially since I am a female, they definitely took advantage of me. I am not stupid and had it rechecked. STAY AWAY! They lied and the problem they found and told me that was unsafe to drive my car and it needed to be replaced ASAP. What a joke. Thank goodness I moved on before they tried to make repairs that were not needed. They also did not replace any fluids in my car. The windshield fluid was dry. I doubt they even rotated my tires. Then they try to sell you more expensive oil at an extra cost. BE AWARE and do not trust them. I guess they pray on vulnerable people. They are extremely nice and make it sound like they know what they are doing, they are only trying to get the profits up. DO NOT RECOMMEND. FYI: Terry B. gave many reviews for Midas in Hudson with 5 stars on several websites. You must be a friend, family or someone that works there, perhaps a manager? Planted for sure......
