I was having a ticking noise coming from my engine and took the car into another shop. I was told from them my car would have to replace the engine and it would cost me 10k+ for a fix. I then had it towed to this Midas and Jordan and his guys did a fantastic job at communicating with me. They found the issue fast and fixed it for me for only $250, this is the most trustworthy and reliable shop I have been to in Birmingham, Hoover, Vestavia...you name it! I went from thinking I had a total car to these guys fixing it up in 3-4 days and ready to drive 300 miles. May be a chain but felt like the neighborhood shop where you know the owner, head mechanic, and treated as a family friend. Diagnosed the problem, fixed it, and answered my questions by making recommendations that would SAVE me money instead of just doing something that was only aesthetic on a car that I'm going to trade in sooner than later. They even let me know that my front wheel was slightly bent so rotated it with the back wheel since my car is front wheel drive. Did this without charging me. Also, the owner himself drove me home when I dropped off my car, so I didn't have to take an Uber. Long story short, I trust these guys and would not hesitate to go back to them for anything and feel confident they will not try and upsell me on frivolous things just to make a buck. read more

On Dec 5th I went to midas for an oil change. the. Very next thing I noticed was my car was smelling like burnt oil?!! Me . Thinking it was probably some oil that was left on my motor and was burning off, no !!!! That wasn't it the mechanic broke my oil filter gaskets!!! And didn't tell me after my son and I approached him and his crooked manager about it! They act shocked like we didn't do it??? I said why you guys keep saying you didn't do it? Now I'm positive you are the cause of my car being broken!!! I have video footage of them trying to get my car off the ramp!!!!! It's terrible!!! These 2 amateurs shouldn't be working at no one's job!!!! Now I get why they are the only 2 in that store!! Because they robbing!!!!! We booked an appointment for an oil change this past Friday for Saturday at 2:30pm, and we had to leave town on Sunday. When my boyfriend got there Saturday they said "We have too many cars and not enough workers so we're going to have to rebook you". My boyfriend left in the middle of his work shift to get his oil changed there, they could've at least called to let us know that they wouldn't be able to fit us in. Don't come here or to the one down in Hoover. When we went to the one in Hoover Friday, the staff was extremely rude to us. read more

I drove my daughter's car cross country to move her into college in Birmingham. The car needed front struts and I needed to find a reputable local mechanic to do this repair before she started school. Brought it in on a Saturday morning. Blessed to find Dwight and Midas to help get this done. Before agreeing to do the repair, Dwight wanted to check it out. He found an issue with one side where it was failing, but pointed out that the other side was fine. Of course we replaced both sides, but this speaks to the honesty of this shop. Not all mechanics operate this way. Price was fair and comparable for the job. While it took several hours to complete it, the job was done right and Dwight was very helpful and kind. This is a WARNING to everyone: In the past I had an amazing experience! The staff was great and actually tried to work with customers working with a budget. However, the new staff has shown insufficient care towards customers with a budget. The financing is predatory at best and sometimes has interest rebates that you will receive 2-3 years after a super early payoff of your loan at the least. They have done great for me in the past. Where is the customer loyalty though? Repetitive SATISFIED customers is a big key to keeping a business running. I tried working with you thinking you'd meet me halfway. I was wrong you wouldn't even let me have my own parts because you want to up market parts cost to almost a 65% surcharge and the warranty which I was willing to forfeit since parts come with a warranty anyway. Midas was my go to mechanic shop, but not anymore! I won't be rigorously charged again because anything is possible and everyone has options! Don't let professionals fool you seems like there is always a MAJOR catch! read more

They charged me for a bunch of test that I didn't ask for AND they sold me a batter for $340 when I could find the same one online for $200. When I called back they told be to deal with it, it's just the upcahrge fee. read more

The manager at the Midas Homewood location contacted me on February 27th, 2015 and I explained my experience with the Hoover location (left a review on them). He didn't like the fact that that and theft had happened in one of his stores. He offered to have my vehicle inspected for my peace of mind. I came by and had my vehicle inspected on February 28, 2015. He looked under the hood, since Midas Hoover also replaced my radiator, and he checked the outer tie rod end. He found what would soon be the same situation before with the suspension (where I'd have to find a shop and shell out even more money) and replaced the parts and aligned my vehicle, all as a courtesy. I'm truly appreciative for that. The Midas Homewood manager, Dwight, refunded me for the outer tie rod end job Midas Hoover did. For their service and right-ing what could and would have been another wrongdoing, Midas Homewood gets my mark of approval. UPDATE: These guys have taken care of my car and been great to work with. I came back to Midas Homewood, after getting an oil change and tire rotation from the dealership that resulted in a Check Engine Light. Midas took care of my CEL problem (a simple fix that would've been an unnecessary repair) without charging me a penny in good consciousness. I recently got a tuneup and brought it back when my CEL came on. They kept it for a couple of days to check it out and drained and recharged the battery and reset the codes, as a courtesy. They changed out my sparkplug wires and informed me about the exhaust system. They took care of my car and I've appreciated what they've done. They've saved me money and did honest repair work on my CRV. Customer service is great and it's clear they take pride in their business and making the customer top priority. As far as I've known and going off their track record, these mechanics have been honest with me and they know how I am about my baby. So I highly recommend them. read more

I trust Dwight to be honest about my car issues. I rarely feel that way when I take my cars in for service. I have been using Midas for a while now and plan to stay with this location because of the great service I always receive! I appreciate the way Dwight goes over the repairs with me in detail and explains why I need certain repairs and he shows me the brake pads. I have been to several mechanics that have tried to to bogus repairs and fortunately for me, my dad was a mechanic so I do have enough knowledge to question them. Went in to have brake pads checked. I was told up front it would be an hour.( I had called ahead) 55 minutes AFTER I arrived they checked and told me I needed front pads and that could take another hour. I had a coupon which I told Dwight about. He told me the $180 he quoted was with the coupon. As I waited I called 2 more businesses and was quoted 79.95 and 99.95 per axle TOTAL. I then assumed I had been quoted for two axles at Midas and only needed one. I questioned Dwight about this and showed him the coupon. He told me, as it pertained to the coupon, "you don't want those cheap pads". The coupon stated the pads had a warranty for the life of the car or as long as I owned it so I would assume Midas wouldn't be using 'those cheap pads'. I paid $185.99 for two front pads with labor being $120 for TWENTY-THREE minutes of labor. I watched as they did the work. I will NEVER go to Midas again. So beware. They are overpriced. I have seen on other sites with reviews where Midas overcharged women. Interesting question. Either way, find another company to do your work. Midas doesn't have the 'gold touch' except as they stick their hands into your wallet. read more
