I was getting my oil changed regularly at the Happy Valley Midas shop. The previous time I got my oil changed, "Matt" said I needed $1200 worth of work done. He stated my brake pads were at the halfway mark in the "red" zone and I needed my brakes done right away. I asked how long I could go and if it would last another 2 weeks. Matt stated they would probably go until the next oil change (5,000 miles). I wait until the next oil change and when they did an inspection, they were actually in the "yellow" zone. During the previous inspection, Matt stressed I really needed to replace the drive shaft. That it wasn't leaking yet, but it could. During my inspection on the second oil change, Travis stated that I didn't need to replace the drive shaft when I questioned the urgency. To break it down, first my front brakes pads are in the "red" zone and I really need to replace my drive shaft to my front brake pads are in the "yellow" and I don't need to replace my drive shaft. Sounds more like Matt is trying to have work done that's not necessary and he's telling me the brakes are worse than they really are. I also requested to see the oil stick before they changed the oil so I could keep track and monitor how much oil was burning, if any, before they changed the oil. Which I was never shown. Even after I mentioned to Travis I requested the oil level to be shown to me on the previous oil change and that didn't happen either. I also mentioned to Travis that I didn't appreciate one of his techs leaning against my car while he took a break. This happened multiple times while I was waiting for the other tech to finish my oil change and replace the engine air filter. Which I requested to be replaced when I arrived and Travis didn't order the air filter until after the car was finished being worked on. I had to wait an extra 40 minutes for the part and for them to install the air filter. When I mentioned to Travis that I didn't appreciate the tech leaning on my car while taking a break, Travis became rude. I explained to Travis he wouldn't appreciate someone leaning on his car either and Travis responded, "I told you I would talk to him about it." I don't know any customer who is going to want to return to a repair shop who states something is way worse than it is or who is spoken to rudely because one of their employees is being disrespectful to the customers property. Not to mention, a mysterious small dent is in the hood now with oil hand prints all over the hood. Do better Midas because you just lost another customer. read more

As someone who's worked in the mechanical industry in many facets- this place is just, so.... GAHH Don't know what the point in scheduling an appt is when it's 35 mins past mine now (when it's a simple tire check) and they haven't even touched my car in the parking lot yet and all I've heard this guy in the back do is get upset with other people for not doing their job and do nothing but snack. Took them 20 minutes to even call the location I had Bought the tires to get the records. And there's a tech just standing around on his phone in the garage. Then to listen to their conversations amongst each other from the lobby so very clearly Is extraordinarily unprofessional. Had the tires not been purchased through a Midas for me I would not come back here. Y'all wonder why you have terrible reviews? You know the problems. Fix it and this won't happen. Be professional, stay on task and don't make people wait 45 minutes to look at their car when the rest of you are standing around. Will not be giving Midas my business ever again. read more

Assistant manager was extremely unprofessional, going so far as to tell my husband to get the f**k out of his shop. He'd worked with my husband before and was fired by my husband, and continues to hold a grudge and refuse him service in a professional setting. We were unable to have any service performed on the vehicle because of the hostility shown. Extremely unprofessional and disrespectful, if I could give less than 1 star I would. read more

I brought my vehicle in for a routine radiator replacement and coolant system service, and what I got was a nightmare. When I picked up my car, the hood latch was broken -- something that should have been caught in a proper inspection. Worse, the coolant leaked out completely shortly after I left. There was a long trail of coolant down the street and on my driveway. There was also a strong burning smell in the air and the car became undrivable. I had to tow it back to Midas. Soon after, all the coolant leaked out, and the car became undrivable. It had to be towed back to Midas. It took over a week of constant follow-up to even reach the store manager. And despite everything -- a failed repair, a tow, a dangerous situation -- the manager never even said sorry. No accountability, no basic professionalism. They eventually agreed to pay for a third-party inspection, but only after I said I no longer trusted them to assess or fix anything correctly. That speaks volumes. Even though Midas may claim the issue was resolved, it wasn't done right the first time, and serious long-term damage may have already been done: head gasket failure, transmission damage, or internal engine issues -- things that won't show up on a diagnostic test. This wasn't just inconvenient -- it was negligent, unsafe, and dismissive. I would never trust this shop again, and I strongly urge others to be cautious. This could've easily ended in a breakdown on the highway with my two toddlers in the back seat, or worse. All I am asking for is a refund for the negligent service completed on my car but the district manager refused because he said that in the end they "fixed" the car. read more

Only wish i could rate lower than a 1 star. The people at this location are completely incompetent. My girlfriend brought her car here for a routine oil change. First off, they didn't call us once the car was finished which isn't the end of the world. But after receiving the car back her air conditioning no longer functioned. They offered to check it out and charge another $75 inspection fee, instead of checking it for free when it was working just fine before bringing it in. We took the car to a different shop that would check the AC for free and they explained that whoever worked on the car last must've damaged something and created a large leak for the refrigerant in the vehicle. A routine oil change left her vehicle needing $200 worth of refrigerant to be filled and a leak detection and repair of $100. Do not bring your car here, these people will make your life difficult. read more

I've owned many cars over the years, to charge someone over $500 for and oil change and break replacement is more then being a scam it's "ROBBERY" working on my own cars I can do both in about 2-4 hours WHY DO YOU STILL HAVE THE CAR SO THIS LONG. We are not the only one who has been fucked over by this company from over pricing things to plain out lying about problems to just take your money! Midas is shady AF! I've been getting my oil changed here fairly regularly for a few years. They always send me coupons for that sort of thing. I've gotten quotes for other work and their prices are always outrageously high . double or triple the price that other shops in the area are charging for the same work. They recently quoted me around $800 for a tuneup that I got done at the dealership for less than half that price.The quote on brakes was $200 more than other shops in the area. I asked them to do a PBOT inspection after a recent oil change. They told my brakes that have less than 20,000 miles on them need to be replaced in order to pass my inspection. I took my car to another shop to have it looked at. No issue with the brakes. Went to a Les Schwab location to have the inspections done and passed with flying colors. this shop is just not honest or trustworthy. Make sure and get quotes from other shops before you let them do any work or just avoid this shop all together. read more

if I could give zero stars I would. I could ramble for quite a while about how horrible my experiences have been with this Midas, as of recent, but to go into all the details will take more time than I have time for right now. Brought my car in to have them fix the issue causing my check engine light to be on as well as the air conditioner. They told me this would be an easy fix and I could have my car the next day. It took ~6 visits and them having my car for a long period of time, along with a couple thousand dollars for me to still have the check engine light on and an ac that doesn't work. I heard excuses dancing from they received faulty parts, multiple times to, oh we had a new guy working on it and he doesn't really know much about these cars, to I drove it a long time and it is working great (note, only 3 miles had been added to the odometer from the time I left). I used to love this place and have used them for years. New management took over a while back and this place has gone down hill. I was even hung up on by Greg for asking what the fix was. When I talked to others about it, they said, "oh yeah, we don't normally let him talk with customers". Like it was no big deal. Note, Greg is the Service Manager. DO NOT GO HERE!!! THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF. Used to be owned by somebody else who was reputable. Now it's apparently owned by people who don't care. First Off, I used to work at a dealership in the shop. I brought my car in because the check engine light was on, coolant needed to be topped, and my belts kept squealing and snapping and I didn't know why.(I don't have time to work on my car). They signed me up for 4 inspections and found nothing that the courtesy check wouldn't find. They gave me a LIST of problems with my car, a lot of which wasnt necessary. A caliper was ceased, I had them replace it and brakes. The other caliper was only a year old, practically brand new. They told me it was ceased too and then had me replace it, new calipers almost NEVER cease. I figured they were going to resurface my rotors since I only requested calipers and brakes. They gashed my rotor with a wrong part and told me it'd be warranty then charged me parts and labor for both. When I tried to dispute it, they told me they hate people like me(I'm not sure what that means??), kept saying F* you, and told me they wouldn't do anything for me and to get the F out of their shop while walking to the door and holding it open for me. When I asked for them to swap back my old rotors and just resurface them, they told me, they just got my sh*t car off their rack and weren't touching it again. They WILL try to sell you stuff that isn't necessary. For example, they tried to sell me a radiator cap for a 2 year old radiator, it's in perfect condition. As well as an engine chem clean which techs call Snake oil because it doesn't actually do anything. read more

I went in for advice on why my battery light was on even though I tested the battery and alternator which were OK. Also wanted to know why my park neutral switch was not working. They did not diagnose anything and still charged me for the service. Total ripoff. I should not have to pay if they could not do the work. Went in to have my headlights adjusted they said i needed new ones and to grt them from auto zone .. also i had a new lock cylinder for the ignition and asked if ghey could install it they said no prob never telling me they wouldnt warrenty their work ...the result now my car wont start due to their work and wont help me at all... said i signed paper that says no warrenty which they gave me to sign when i picked vehicle up AFTER work was done not before or i would not of had them do it...besides they hsd me go get parts at autozone for headlights. So now i have no car was stranded for over 4 hours at night waiting for tow truck and they refuse to help me.. a 62 year old woman .. dont ever go there they just want your money any way they can get it ...wont tell you about their policy till its to late.. and do work they are not qualified to do.they should be ashamed for taking advantage of a woman read more

There is apparently new staff at the Happy Valley location. First the staff didn't have a clue what my new 2018 vehicle used for oil. If it hadn't been my hubby insistence, the idiot would have put in the wrong type. Then they played with the dash... ok, they needed to get the electronic information... HOWEVER, they could have put all the setting back to where they were. What if I had been a person that didn't understand how to put it all back. Some seniors like the new cars, but don't understand all the techy stuff. So, even though, we have used this location for over 10 years... it's time to move on to somewhere else, where brains are included in the job description and used in the job. read more

Came here for an Uber inspection. I called and made an appointment ahead of time. The guy on the phone said it would for sure take less than an hour. I waited over an hour and a half. They aren't familiar with the Uber process or form. The guys inside are nice but this whole trip was very inconvenient. I was just not happy that they said on the phone it would only take 45 min to an hour and it was way longer than that. Even Making the payment took forever. Getting them to bring my car up took forever. They did apologize for the long wait but overall this was a terrible experience. read more

Bait and switch! First off, I'm a guy that likes to get a good deal. I know that automotive care has one of the highest opportunities for abuse, so I always make sure and call around to see what prices are BEFORE I schedule an appointment. Midas wasn't the cheapest, but I gave them some credit for have a recognizable name. When I called and talked to "Joe", I asked if he could give me an estimate of how much brakes would cost. He DID indicate that he could only give me an estimate, which was fine with me. He told me that brake service was $149 for most cars, that there would be a cost of $60 if the rotors needed to be turned, and that new rotors were between $50-70. I indicated that if there was only a $10 or $20 difference, I'd rather have new rotors. He replied with "that cost is for each". I said that made sense and made the appointment. NO OTHER COSTS WERE EVER MENTIONED. After the brake inspection was done, Joe informed me that the rotors would, in fact, need to be replaced, so the total cost was going to be $414. Now, I'm no math genius, but according to my calculator, 149+70+70+30 (oil change) does NOT equal 414. I asked what the cost difference was and I was told they were for labor on the rotors and "shop costs". This did not make me happy. Why? Because when I asked for an estimate, and specifically asked about the costs associated with rotors, I was never told about the extra labor cost for replacing rotors. Nor was there any mention of "shop costs". When I mentioned this to him, Joe simply said, "every shop on the planet charges those costs". I replied, "If every shop on the planet charges those costs, then why wasn't that a part of the estimate you gave me this morning because you KNEW you were going to be charging me those? And you knew there were additional labor costs associated with installing the new rotors, so why didn't you mention those costs when I asked about them?". Joe had no real answer for this. Look, I think every business has the right to charge as much as they want for the work that they do. But baiting-and-switching is an unscrupulous tactic and I highly encourage people to stay away from this place to show them that this type of behavior is NOT okay. Plus you can just look at all of the other 1-star reviews and you can tell that my situation was more the norm than anything else. I sure wish I would have looked at the review first. read more

I took my car in there for a simple oil change with a tire rotation. They changed my oil. Great. They did not rotate my tires and didn't actually tell me that they had decided not to do so, I had to call later on to ask about it because I didn't remember them mentioning that as part of what they had done. They mentioned that they did not rotate my tires because tires do not need to be rotated when they are wearing perfectly (so not true and my tires were NOT wearing perfectly). They either just forgot to do it and wanted to make up a fancy lie why they didn't or they were too lazy to do what I'd asked. They also thought I had a coolant leak so instead of asking me if I wanted them to check on that, they just filled me up with all water. No coolant. I would have liked to have made that decision first so if I chose to not have them do a pressure test, I could have had coolant refilled instead of water. They also gave me an estimate for a power steering leak they said I had which was well over $800. So they did the bare minimum of the oil change, failed to tell me that they didn't actually do anything else they were supposed to (refill my fluids with FLUIDS not water or rotate my tires. Come to find out, I did have a small power steering leak but only had to replace the hose, not the entire pump that they quoted me. I got the work done for half the price at my mechanic's who is actually honest. I will never return to Midas for a service again. read more

At the same time my father brought his truck in for an oil change. My fiance and I signed the paperwork on a separate contract from my father. My car was still being diagnosed, and my father came in to pick up his truck. While there, my father inquired as to the status of my diagnostic. The mechanic advised him that a part needed to be replaced and asked him if he should contact my fiance to advise us of this, and was told by my father "no don't worry about it I will pay for it" and subsequently a part was installed on my car without the person who signed the contract with your company being contacted to okay it. Regardless of the fact that my father offered to pay for it, the work should never have been done without checking with the person who signed the contract (the co-owner of the vehicle that was being diagnosed). When the mechanic called us and advised us of this situation I complained that he should have contacted us first regardless of the fact that my father offered to pay for it later. Without knowing the financial situation or obtaining payment at that time he performed a service that we did not authorize and when we tried to complain and tell him that that was not professional he became even more unprofessional and was very rude on the phone. While on the phone with that mechanic, he repeatedly interrupted and said "I'm not going to discuss this on the phone, " disparaged my fiance's ability to know what was going on with the car, and threatened to remove the part and give it back to us if I posted a bad review. Therefore, I am lodging a formal complaint. Based on my experiences, I will never ever use Midas again. Based on the man's name tag this was the manager of the location. My husband and I were about to head to Seattle but were concerned about my breaks. We took it to this Midas location and was greeted with amazing customer service. They got my car up on the rack gave me the price which was over half what les schwab or Toyota wanted to charge me so we had them do it. We were up and going in less than 2 hours now on our way to Seattle ty guys you guys not only get 5 stars but a amazing A+ rating with us! I will recommend you guys to all our friends and family. I use Midas for everything... brakes... oil changes... diagnostics... an occasional emotional therapy session (ask for Joe). Their prices are very fair, and the team operates with integrity. 1. Anna, the receptionist, always greets me with warm familiarity. She knows my car and knows my name. She also schedules my car service periods three months in advance and calls me the week before to ensure I don't forget. These reminders are the only reason I remember to service my car. 2. Mike, the general manager, keeps a keen eye on the status and performance of my vehicle. He knows so much about cars, he practically hovers when he walks. He also lets me know what major repairs my car will need almost six months in advance to help me budget for them. He also lets me know what repairs definitely aren't needed and would be a waste of my money. 3. And then there's Joe, who I can't say enough good things about. Joe is the ultimate customer advocate. He keeps me well-informed and makes sure to explain everything the mechanics are doing. He also makes sure that I'm being quoted accurate pricing and other information. I used to love this place. They were always so nice mostly Anna. But today really showed me how much they try to scam from there customers. Took my car in because the AC belt was off track. Found out that the tension pulley had fallen off too. Midas quoted us $338.5 to fix it. AC belt $28.98 Tension Pulley $139.98 Labor $122.54 Shipping Fee for Parts: $22 Not knowing what else to do at the time we asked them to order the parts. We put $140 down for the parts and left. Got home showed the breakdown to my buddy. He said the parts don't cost as much as they were charging for em. Offered to do it for us for free. He knows cars! Hell if it saves me 122.54 in labor I'm down. Few days go by they call us saying the parts are in. Since I already bought the parts by giving em $140, I walk into the shop and tell the manager I'm there to pick em up. Explained that I didnt want to pay $120 when i got a friend who will do it for free. Manager started to get angry that I didn't want them to do the job. Stated "I'm confused you guys come in here and have us look at the car then we order the parts and now your not letting us do the job" Told him again I'm just tryna save money. Manager continues by saying were "taking advantage" of them! lol More like they're taking advantage of us by over pricing us on the parts. Ill get into that later. After paying $140 I still owed em $50 for the shipping and belt. I knew i could get the belt cheaper too. Didn't want to buy the belt they were trna sell, but the manager said he special ordered it. Told em I can buy one at Autozone for a better price. Manager argues that Autzone parts aren't as "durable." Kept trying to argue that they only order the best parts and have the past guys that's why they can charge so much. Wouldn't stop going on and on about how confused he is that we don't want to get it done at his shop. Manager continues by saying "you wouldn't walk into subway and ask for all the condiments and bread and tell em NOT to make the sandwhich and that you'll do it at home." Like for real, what kinda metaphor is that?! Come on dude i already paid for the parts. I have spent a crap-ton of money at your shop! im a loyal customer. chill out. I get you got a business to run but I know you made money off me by charging a ridiculous amount above the parts worth. Basically told him to just get the parts I ordered and move on. Had a coolant pressure check done ($39) at the Happy Valley, Oregon Midas and was informed the thermostat housing needed to be replaced ($418). Made an appointment for the next day and arrived fifteen minutes early. Was told to come back in two hours. Came back in two hours and the car was still parked in same spot. Went in and was told that they were very busy and had not gotten around to my car. read more

Why bother to schedule an appointment a day in advance? Uber wanted an inspection amd uses these folks. Horrible choice. From my perspective in the office this should have taken 15 minutes. From my experience with cars it should have taken no longer than 30. So why was I there over an hour. Because they kinda suck. Save yourself. Go someplace else. I should have listened to the other reviews before taking my truck in. Wanted to get an estimate on how muck some brake work would be an I got an earful! They misdiagnosed my clutch issue. My clutch pedal was cracked but they told me that my clutch line was broken (which it was not). They wanted to charge me $250. I called another garage that I've been too before and they quoted me $90 including labor. So I decided not to get any work done. I drove off and heard a clunking sound that had not been there previously. I drove it back and they told me that the wheel bearings weren't fit right and needed to be welded, but the truck was safe. Took it to the other garage the next day and they informed me that the truck was clunking because the wheels weren't TIGHTENED. Safe my a$$. They were just trying to get my money. Will never be going here again. read more
