Midas of Freehold represents the manipulative, deceitful underbelly of the automotive maintenance/repair industry. I made the mistake of going in there for a simple brake job. Bobby is a good salesman. He appears genuine and has an arsenal of quick rebuttals to fire back at you if you dare question him. Bobby pitched me on needing to replace my rotors as well as pads, understand that the car is a year old. Bobby proceeds to tell me that he can give me a break on the rotors by shaving them. I am not a car expert by any means. After the fact I asked around and was informed that this is a pretty standard slimy sales tactic employed by places like Freehold Midas. Unfortunately smooth talking Bobby convinced me to go along with his idea and shave the rotors. This work costs me about $500. I leave Midas and my brakes proceed screech like like hyena warfare given the slightest pressure on the brake pedal. People at stop lights suddenly give me loathing looks of contempt. Thanks Bobby! I go back to Midas and tell them that the brakes are squeaking. Bobby tells me that he was worried this might have been an issue. He explains that with most newer cars you can't shave the rotors like you once could on older cars. WTF?! Now as previously stated I am not a car expert, I rely on these auto professionals like Midas to provide a forthright and honest assessment of my vehicle. Midas claims to be brake experts. Wouldn't you think that these brake experts would possibly know that they shouldn't shave the rotors of a new vehicle. Bobby felt they should, "give it a shot" to see if it works. I work in finance deal with clients investments for a living and if I ever told them I would give something a shot with their portfolio they would run for the hills. The other thing that bothers me here is that we are talking about brakes, something that is very important to both my family and myself's well being. Bobby proceeds to replace my rear rotors and tells me that he is a good guy so he isn't going to charge me for labor for this job. Really man, thanks thats swell. Leave midas, brakes still sound like battling hyenas, go back to Midas, Bobby tells me this is normal, wait 500 miles and if they still squeak come back. Don't know why I am so quick to listen to Bobby given his track record. Wait heres why, cause I don't know any better. I'm stuck with Bobby as my liason between me and my vehicle. Go back to Midas after 500 miles. Bobby says we are going to have to replace the rotors. I feel like my head is spinning. Bottom line is places like this can be very successful with a "Bobby." Your average Joe doesn't know much about cars. A good salesman seems sincere and like he has your best interest in mind but they don't. Learn from my mistake and do yourself a favor and don't bring your car to Midas in Freehold. read more

This is the kind of place that all you want is an oil change & somehow you need shocks, new tires , new brakes etc, etc. when you decline the additional work, expect to be on the phone an additional 15 minutes while the untrustworthy manager repeats why you need these are unnecessary repairs. My experience was awful. I felt lied to and was furious. I made my appointment the previous Friday {6/9} and said that all I wanted was my oil replaced, windshield wiper fluid topped off, and air in all 4 tires {which had a light on showing me and whoever got in my car that something needed to be done as I had low pressure} and though I said I didn't want the 'full multi-point inspection' {the write-up of the 39 things that they'd suggest I fix} and as I am not in a position to handle much, i didn't want to know of anything, I just wanted those 3 things done, I.E. a standard oil change with what a person normally has addressed. I paid, and said, "You also filled my tires and topped off my fluid, right?", and their bearded representative said 'yes we did, goodbye'. As I left my air pressure light was still on. **IF** air is added, it shuts off after driving 20 feet, and it didn't. I went 10 miles away {out of my way in the opposite direction} to a gas station w/free air, and filled all 4 tires on that 91 degree day. I went back and made my gripe known that I was lied to. The 2 managers were LESS THAN friendly, nor quick to remotely go near admitting that they were wrong. They argued that it was done, tried blaming it on the guy who worked on it, and said it was a miscommunication, but I did not get what i asked to be done and felt lied to, and even if they thought I didn't want the whole large write-up done or their multi-point inspection, they even admitted that the points that should be always taken care in a standard oil change are wiper fluid replenishment, air being added to all 4 tires, and of course the oil being changed as it's what was paid for, and I do not like being lied to, and it's 1 place that won't get a dime more of my business, nor anyone that I know. There's no 'miscommunication', ALL FOUR tires were NEVER touched. They were low. They had my car for over 30 minutes, the time was there, gentlemen, even if you don't do or attempt service upsells, the standards of a basic oil change should NEVER be ignored. Update: 6/26/2017: I spoke to their manager as he reached out to me on my posting and I explained where I came from and was honest that 1. it was more the other mgr. who wasn't as friendly/receptive and 2. when someone states that they don't wish to have a multi-point inspection (like a dealer or some highway car shops provide where they search for things on a car and end up trying to sell you the Brooklyn Bridge in automobile terms, "You need a transmission fluid flush, new brake fluid...", and 94 other things that are less 'standard maintenance' and more minuscule aspects that don't NEED to be handled and aren't emergency, they're more considerations), specify with your customer, "If you don't want to multi-point inspection, what would you like performed", and I would simply clarify the standard oil change, the addition of windshield wiper fluid, and air added to my 4 tires. That was also what I requested the previous time which baffled me as to why this occurred in the first place. It's done and I agreed to move past it and I extended a hand to their {friendlier} manager who left a polite impression which I appreciated. *IF* I go in seeking a "what do i need" answer, I'll give such a question, but as I was not looking to do anything beyond what comes with a standard oil change, I choose to keep it simple when I walk in, and that's what it comes down to. As someone who communicates, I mentioned what I needed, and clarified what needs to be said, it was agreed upon, and all is well now between both parties. read more

Up sell, Up sell, Upsell. Please don't go here if you want a fair price. I waited for my car to be done for over 3 hours and in that time between phone calls and walk ins, it was all about upselling services to customers. Not to mention the parts and service fees are completely overinflated. I went in for a disconnected converter flange and wound up paying over $1,100 for a complete replacement. They charged $750 for a converter I could get on rock auto for $400. I also had to pay for a new O2 sensor that was replaced 2 months ago and perfectly fine. I'm sure this was because they didn't want to spend the time removing it. They also told me I needed new tie rod ends that were just replaced. Don't get me wrong, the staff are super nice and I was treated very well, but my wallet is completely drained after this visit as well as the other customers who visited. Sure an oil change is reasonable but it comes with a 'Free' inspection that will cost you way more than you would ever expect. Never again. I have worked in and been to plenty of service centers and this might be one of the greediest. In their defense, the service was done well and in a timely manner but it probably cost me 40% more than it should have. Avoid Freehold Midas if you like your money. Sorry Midas, but your rates and up selling are not fair. read more

My first experience here for an oil change was great, so I decided to come back when my exhaust mount broke. Bobby was very professional and patient with me lol. He took me to the car on the lift and showed me what was wrong with it. I was worried about cost etc but he gave me a couple of different options, he was very knowledgeable and understanding. The mechanic who did the welding/parts switches etc has excellent and trustworthy craftsmanship, everything looked like new. The manager was very rude to me: I asked how many miles before I need my next oil change and was told to read the book. There were extra charges for "shop cleanup", i.e. price gouging. This branch was horrendous, if you go to Midas go to the one in Englishtown. read more

I've been going to Midas and dealing with Bobby for over 4 years now. His shop is the only shop I trust any of my cars in his hands. Bobby is a honest person and will do whatever he possibly can to get the job done. He has never forced any kind of work upon me, he has informed me of certain work that should be done within a certain amount of mileage like coolant flush, brakes, transmission fluid, etc. because all this work is just basic maintenance and if you go too long without it, trust me you'll be spending a lot more than the original quote was to simply replace the fluids/parts. He has went above and beyond for all of my needs from the first day I stepped foot into that building. I recommend this shop to all of my friends and I highly recommend new customers to give them a chance. read more

Bobby and his team at Midas Freehold are the best. My car out of no where started running horribly and we needed the car to take a long road trip for the Holiday weekend. They got right on it and told me that i needed a tune- up and also all my tires were extremely bald. He gave me a very competitive price on everything as i confirmed that with my father and told him to go ahead with all of the work. There were some other things that needed to be done but he said that they could wait till i came back from the trip. The team at Midas in Freehold were amazing! I had an issue with my car and made an on-line appointment at midnight for the next day. The website promised a confirmation call within 1 business hour. The shop opened at 7:30 AM and I received a call from Randy at 7:30 AM! When I arrived at 1:00 PM, Randy and Bobby were there to greet me. I immediately saw the collaboration and mutual respect they had for each other (and for the team in the garage) via their banter. Everyone was working hard, but smiling and authentic. After checking my car Randy brought me into the garage and walked me through each item. He explained what was "necessary" - like my back breaks, which were almost nonexistent, and my front tires, which could be used for another couple of thousand miles, but needed to be replaced. We discussed options, pricing and agreed on a plan. I reviewed the invoice and signed off on the work. Randy offered to drive me home, since I lived close. He dropped me off, called 4 hours later to say he tested the car and all was good and was coming over to pick me up. I had a productive afternoon and a safe car a few hours later. Cannot thank Randy enough for his kindness, his expertise and his integrity. I am always afraid I'm going to be taken advantage of, but between Randy and Bobby - I knew they would be fair and honest. lots of problems! made appointment for jetta this past august. My daughter arrived 10 minutes late and they said, sorry cant accommodate you it was so hot the techs couldnt stay any longer. Ok, i made appt for the am couple of days later. This was for an oil change. On the advice of the man at the front desk i put in synthetic oil, as he said it would last longer. I needed new tires, not their fault but my oil change turned into a 500 bill with tires and recommended front end alignment. This car was being transported to my daughter in college in florida the next week. The day after service, something was dragging from car onto road. We were in different town, and had to bring it to local midas, where they removed a piece of plastic that was not secured from freehold. Two days ago while in Florida, the oil light came on and beeped. Car was taken to walmart in Florida and it was determined there was barely any oil because filter was not tightened correctly!!!! The engine could have been destroyed!!! The technician that did work at Freehold Midas was brand new!!! This is no excuse for almost killing car UPDATE after speaking with a midas rep i am satisfied that the problems i had at this midas should not happen again.I will be giving them another chance as I have always used midas for service and look forward to re-establishing a relationship with them read more

I have heard great things through friends about Midas and after finally deciding to give it a try, I could not regret my decision more. After picking up my two HUNGRY kids from daycare, (you moms should know how that is..) I went in for a simple oil change. What was suppose to be routine turned into a disaster! For someone knowing nothing about cars, I was taken for an imbecile and lied to, having to purchase more parts that I so "crucially" needed. Before I knew it, my expenses were piling up and I suddenly felt very uneasy about the situation. I demanded that I only wanted the oil change and that was it. Knowing my minivan was fairly new, I brought it back to Chrysler the following day to learn that my car was perfectly FINE these "mechanics" were lying in a sad attempt to get me to spend more money. Amazing experience! I give it 6 stars if I could. So impressed and thankful I sent them a couple of pizza's the next day. The manager and technicians were pleasant and went beyond when most people will do. I was in town visiting for my Son's prom pictures when rear wheel started metal on metal grinding and stopping truck was more difficult. At the last minute I pulled into this Midas shop and asked if they could just look at it and let me know if my truck was safe to drive. It was 5:50on a Friday and they were clearly winding down after a long day, I found out later they start at 7:30. The manager Randy graciously agreed and tech quickly found the problem. Next challenge was find the Part because normal parts vendor closed at 5. Randy was working the phones and had RJ, the technician, drive to Hazlet to pick up the new caliber. My experience at this location was very pleasant. The manager was very knowledgeable and helpful. I was having a brake problem with my car and he advise me to purchase better quality brake pads and rotors and my car feels like brand new after the brake job. I had my oil changed here previously,however when I read some of the reviews on here I was hesitant and then thought Im in customer service too and sometimes there are just unhappy people no matter what you do. I took chance and went as I didn't recall I had a bad experience the last time well I am glad I went Bobby was super nice and told me up front he had to wait for oil filter to get here would be about half an hour. Got to talking with another customer waiting and then I did inform them of the terrible reviews on Yelp and like I thought you just can't please everyone all the time. So my experience was great talked with nice people didn't even feel like half hour and my car was done. I will definitely be coming back here for my next service. read more

I went to Midas to get an oil change. Afterward the guy told me that my tires were in dire need of being replaced. He said that "it would be dangerous to continue to drive on the tires." He brought me into the garage to show me the "lack of tread" that was on the tires, which I didn't see. This same exact thing had happened to my fiancé a few months ago, and she ended up replacing all four tires, so this story sounded familiar to me. I assertively told the employee that "I'm not prepared to purchase tires at this time." He continued to pressure me and try to intimidate me by saying "okay, but I'm going to write on your Carfax report that I'm advising you that it's dangerous to drive on them and if anything happens you are liable." I then took my Jeep to a tire place that I trust and I do not need my tires replaced. Midas is a scam, they are unethical, and unprofessional. If you need your oil changed there, go ahead, but do not trust anything they tell you that you "need." read more

I decided to take my car into Midas Freehold despite the negative reviews. Glad I did as my experience there was quite the opposite. Bobby was knowledgeable, informative, honest about the assessment and estimate for the repair, and actually delivered the car earlier than originally communicated. Took my slightly modified Camaro in for alignment on a Friday and was completed Friday. For some reason the vehicle was brought back in on Saturday which at this point the vehicle would not start and they wanted to charge me to figure out what was wrong when it happened in their possession. I showed up Saturday only to get false information told to me about my car. I have had the car for 6 years, almost all work was done by me or a friend that helped. I told them don't worry I will bring the car home and fix it. I showed Tuesday to get the car. Within minutes of being there my friend got the car started. The manager and assistant manager coming running over all shocked and surprised it was running. Moments later the one says to the other that should race my camaro vs his mustang for $500. The employee went on about how fast my car is and how much mid to top range pull the vehicle has. At this point I was unhappy to hear how my car was treated in their hands. I left and before I made it to my girlfriends house 8 miles away from from the shop. The car is overheating, engine misfiring and smoke coming out the exhaust pipes. I called Midas corporate which is a joke because the stores are independently owned. Didn't find that out til over a week later. I then had to call the store which only ended up with me getting screamed at, called a liar, told that a vehicle can not be damaged on a test drive and that I am nothing more then a customer who comes in for an oil change and complains the raido does not work. They do admit to making the comments but they did so as car guys and not as Midas employees. read more

I must say, I had a very pleasant experience at Midas. I've never been to a Midas before this, and quite frankly I didn't know much about the differences between where I should and should not take my car to be serviced. Keep in mind, I don't know much about cars in general. I have a 2008 328xi BMW that needed to be fully restored, and brought back to life with some TLC. I didn't know where to begin, or who to talk to. I was referred to this Midas by a friend, who trusted their work, and said it would be the most efficient way to bring my car back to life. (This car was driven to its maximum limit without much maintenance, and could only be trusted in the hands of someone who understood BMW from the inside out). That is where Bobby came in. I arrived at Midas, and knew that this was going to be a large job, but I Had no idea how much work would have to go into it. Bobby was extremely friendly, and greeted me with a smile and professional attitude from the moment I walked in. He asked what he can do to assist me and I simply explained that I Had no idea what needed to go into the car, I just needed it to come back to life. He explained that I was in good hands, and he will have his crew check it out for me. While waiting for my car to be looked at, Bobby offered me some coffee, which I was pleasantly surprised to see. (What mechanic shop offers their customers coffee? I've never been to one at least)! Bobby came back after looking at my car, and although he was well aware of my lack of car knowledge, he still made it a point to explain every detail of every part that needed to be fixed... Not just that, he was very helpful in explaining WHY, and what the benefit would be for me in the long run. After a long conversation, I knew that this was going to be one hefty job, along with a hefty bill. That's for sure. Bobby was kind enough to reassure me that he will do the best he can to make sure everything is done in a timely manner, along with efficiently and to my liking. I got a long list of things done to my car; some of which included 2 new catalytic converters, new brakes, new tires, new rotors, new coils, because mine were completely shot, and 2 bad oil leaks fixed etc. etc. Before my experience with Bobby I had no idea what was so necessary about these changes to my car. I even did my own research, and came to found that everything Bobby was telling me was 100% necessarily and accurate. I never once felt that he was pressuring or pushing sales on me; I felt more that he was educating me on the way a car works, and how beneficial these things will be for me, so I don't need to frequently visit. (BMWs are high maintenance cars, so the longer I can go without having to come back, the better)! The car was finally complete after long Anxious hours of waiting and tons of services done on my car. SHE WAS ALIVE!!! My car started beautifully, and ran like a brand new car! Not a single glitch in the system whatsoever. I didn't think it was possible, but I was proven otherwise. After getting everything done to my car, I wanted some cosmetic work done to make the car look and feel beautiful again. I came back, and Bobby was kind enough to refer all of the best places he thinks would bring my car back to life (visually)! I've been working with people for years, and dealt with customer service on a daily basis, and I for one have never seen customer service like that of Midas Freehold. I can honestly say, I am now a life long customer and trust my car to be serviced only at this Midas. thanks so much to Bobby and his crew!!! You guys are the best! read more
