I wouldn't even give this company 1 star if I had the option to. I wish I was exaggerating with this review, but I have never in my life dealt with such a poor, unprofessional, unacceptable experience and I could not make this up if I tried! I wish I could get at least a portion of my money back for damage done to my belongings and major inconvenience during the scheduling of my furniture and boxes being delivered. My move was from Maryland to Colorado. I am an extremely polite, accommodating and reasonable person (too accommodating sometimes) and I feel that these men took complete advantage of me and disrespected my validity as a paying customer. I was told by Erick and his assistant mover that my belongings would arrive at my residence in Colorado 21 days from the time that they left Maryland and that they would contact me 5 days prior to schedule a time to deliver, unpack, and put together my furniture. I was contacted by Erick on a Sunday at 5:30pm that he would be delivering between 3-6pm the next day, Monday, or between 8-10am Tuesday, but he didn't know yet and he would let me know at 12pm the following day, Monday. He didn't give me a choice, it just depended on how much driving he wanted to complete in his own time frame. This was not anywhere close to what I was told upon scheduling prior to the move. I have a job with strict set hours, so I was not available during either of those times. I asked politely about a possible delivery on Wednesday. He said no. I jumped through hoops to get someone to cover my work shift on Tuesday morning. I gave clear instructions prior to the delivery that they should have had documentation of, and during the delivery on which boxes and furniture needed to go into my home and which items needed to go into my garage, a VERY short distance from my front entrance. The items were even labeled clearly. Erick and his assistant were both unwilling at first to take the items to my garage, but eventually agreed in a snarly, unprofessional manner. When I saw the brand new Hefty moving boxes that I bought for this move and other heavy-duty plastic moving boxes that I so carefully packed up with my items, my jaw dropped. They were damaged: bottoms cracked and broken, sides of the bins bent in, lids caved in, etc. Just destroyed and 100% unacceptable. On top of that, all 3 cardboard moving boxes that I packed for the move had huge gashes/holes in them. A few of my belongings were broken inside of the boxes. Most of my belongings were packed tightly and securely with bubble wrap by me that I, luckily, was able to salvage most things. Prior to Erick and his assistant entering my home, I asked them to please be careful with my floors, as they are brand new. I believe that this should go without saying when a moving company is delivering belongings, as I know of tips and techniques that movers have used in a professional effort to not damage the homes they are working in. When Erick and his assistant moved boxes and my furniture into my brand new home, they did it with such tremendous carelessness that they scratched my brand new floors severely, and even put a gash in one of the floor panels. They pushed and slid the boxes and heavy items from my front entrance across the floor down the hallway into an unorganized pile in my living room without a moving blanket underneath, even after asking them to place certain items in other rooms. They carelessly unwrapped SOME of the furniture with the blankets and cushioning that they used to pack it up before placing it on the moving truck, but left some still wrapped, leaving it for me to take care of myself. When they were finished unwrapping the small portion of furniture that they did, they were quick to leave. It was agreed upon during the quote consultation that they would be putting together my metal bed frame (which was also scratched from them being careless), so I followed them out to ask about it. They said that they don't do that and that was never the agreement. I was extremely disappointed and still don't know if they were just being lazy or if I was told the wrong information upon booking this company. After they left, I noticed so much damage to my furniture that I have taken such great care of. My beautiful wooden kitchen table is now scratched and chipped in many places, as well as other side tables and my coffee table, my leather chair has a small gash in the leather that I can prove was not there before, etc. I contacted the company about this shortly after the move, and I never heard back. Very poor, all around. I've attached a few photos of their damage to encourage customers to think twice before using Mid Atlantic Van Lines if you take pride in keeping good quality of your belongings.

do not, under any circumstances, use this moving company!! their driver showed up with zero advance notice to deliver when i was out of town, and threatened me with additional charges to redeliver if i didn't get someone to let them in. after frantic phone calls, my brother was able to get there, and the driver made him sign the inventory list BEFORE they started unloading. everything their company's "professionals" packed for my cross country move was damaged, they stacked a pile of damaged, torn boxes on the floor inches in front of my new flat screen tv, and left a big mess behind. when my brother noticed my couch was missing and asked about it, the driver simply said "no couch," and left. THEY LOST MY COUCH! and that was after additional threats that they would have to take back all my stuff for redelivery if i didn't send him the extra shuttle fees via cashApp, since i wasn't there in person -- and the app declined to send it because of his suspicious account activity! more frantic arrangements then had to be made to get him his cash. because it was a smaller move (1 bedroom), i wasn't even offered the additional protection against loss or damage, so i got duped into waiving any coverage beyond the .60 per pound minimum. that equaled a $72 settlement for my $1200 couch, to which the company added a $500 "goodwill" offer. (you'd pay more for that couch AT goodwill!) not sure how they got their A+ rating with the BBB, but i wish i had been forewarned. you're welcome.

I completed a Moving Quote Request on a Saturday, and they called me on Monday with some questions. Andrew was very friendly and professional. My move included moving furniture from White Marsh to Mount Washington, with a stop in Timonium to drop off and pick up more items. A three stop move with lots of stairs at each location was quoted at $750. This was reasonable since I had anticipated spending about $1,000. Their window for a Friday move date was between 10-12. They called when they were about 20 minutes away and met me promptly at 10 AM. Four guys in a huge truck arrived and got right to work. Within half an hour we were on our way to the second stop to drop off a bed and retrieve the rest of the furniture. Off we went to the third and final stop to unload everything. I was nervous about large items fitting up a narrow stairwell, but the guys assured me that if I had measured right, they would have it all fitting in the apartment in no time. That they did. When everything was unloaded, the driver went over the listed items and made sure everything on the list had been moved and put in the apartment. The price quoted was the price I paid, and they were done in exactly two hours. I tipped each guy in cash and felt a huge sense of relief when they drove away - knowing moving day was successful and complete. Great customer service and fast and efficient movers.

It was Bookstore Movers' excellent customer service that earns them 5 stars. The 3 movers showed up early and worked very quickly and efficiently. In that haste, some items were damaged and I offered that feedback in the follow-up survey. I quickly received a call from the company offering to discount my move and send Walter Davies, a furniture repair person, out to make furniture repairs. That concern for customers and making things right earns Bookstore Movers 5-star service. Walter Davies was excellent and thorough in repairing my furniture. We had a dedicated elevator, yet workers often brought items down only one or two at a time. I also saw team members on their phones or standing around in rooms and hallways instead of actively moving things. These delays added up quickly. The crew also misplaced parts of our bed frame, and the pieces had to be found before it could be reassembled. That alone added nearly an hour to the move. Because the move took much longer than expected, the final cost was significantly higher than the estimate we received. We were also charged based on an arrival time that was recorded as ten minutes earlier than when the crew actually arrived. The team was courteous, but given the inefficiency, added time, and higher final price, we would not use Bookstore Movers again. This is unfortunate, because we had been happy with them in previous moves.

As I read all of the overwhelmingly positive reviews, I have to wonder how I could have had the…read moreexperience I had. Could I have avoided the stressful outcome I endured by just asking them upfront if they would move all of my boxes? If they would stay on the job until it was finished? It may sound silly to ask this of a moving company, but read on. I'll start by saying that the three men who handled my move were mostly professional and careful for the eleven or so hours that they worked. Also, I significantly underestimated the number of boxes I had to move. Serena was very helpful when I initially contacted the company. I provided an inventory of my belongings and some photographs and she worked out a quote that was agreeable. On moving day, her team showed up on time. They were all personable and receptive to my requests. By early afternoon, the moving van was filled up ... but there were still about a hundred boxes in the old house. Suppose the new house didn't have enough room for everything? I asked if they could help me take the remaining items to a storage facility. They pointed out that by the time the van was unloaded, regular offices hours at those facilities would be over. The new house was about a 20 minute drive from the old house. I left in my car and the movers left in their van at around the same time. I arrived at the new house expecting them to be right behind me. For quite a while, they didn't show. I tried calling them but they didn't answer. After about 45 minutes, they arrived. They took a break for lunch. That's fine. Why didn't they just tell me? I labelled each of my boxes with the name of the room where I wanted it to go. For the most part the movers put the boxes in the correct rooms. However, the next morning I could not locate my toothbrush, razor, and a number of other items so I had to purchase replacements. They also dented a wall when moving the couch. They compensated for this by deducting a credit from my total bill. Sometime between 7:30 and 8:00 pm, the men had finished unloading the moving van. The boxes were distributed fairly evenly throughout the house and there was still free space remaining in each room. The team leader started preparing my bill, so I thought they were done for the day. I settled the bill and anxiously tried to figure out how I was going to get the rest of my boxes moved. Was I going to call another moving company? Rent a cargo van? Over the next week and a half, I made ten trips, usually after work, from my old house to the new one, squeezing as many boxes as I could into my little sedan. I finally got the last of the boxes moved. Not fun for an old guy with a bad back. The entire episode left me exhausted and wondering if somehow things could have been handled better. A few days after completing the second stage of my move (and nearly two weeks after the first stage) I received a voice mail message from Serena. She wanted to know how things went. She already knew there had been an issue with me having too many boxes for one trip because one of the movers had called the office on the day of the move to advise her. In her message Serena said that the office was currently closed for a holiday but that I could call her on her dedicated line. Unfortunately, she didn't realize that her line had been switched off for the holiday and was not accepting messages. A day or two later we did manage to connect. Serena was careful to ask me just a few general questions so as to avoid suggesting that anything had been handled improperly. At the same time, she wanted to know what had happened and what options, if any, I was given. I eventually told Serena that none of the movers offered to make a second trip to collect the rest of my boxes and I believed that was because they did not work after 8:00 or 9:00 pm. Serena assured me that sometimes they worked past midnight. They keep working until the job was done. Except in my case. She also agreed that the three men could have moved the last set of boxes within 90 to 120 minutes. Serena told me she would discuss the matter with the movers and get back to me. But I never heard back from her. I still don't know what to make of this entire affair. I work in customer service and I use all of my resources to ensure the all of my clients' needs are fulfilled. That's what they depend on my for. Of course, if I knew there was an option of making one more relatively short trip to complete the job, I would have gladly taken it. The company would have gotten more money, the movers would have received larger tips, and I wouldn't have faced the ordeal of moving a hundred boxes a dozen at a time by myself. Ouch!

My friend and I live in the same complex and moving to another unit across the parking lot. So, we need her place and my place moved into one space. We have packed everyone up and though we were ready to go. They called me to confirm my move today and spoke with Chris. We went over the items and then the price. He even threw in a free kitchen packing kit and said the guys would help. Cool. He also gave me discount and I was happy. Kion calls me an hour later asking me to confirm the move. What? I spoke to Chris. We go over things and he tells me we are good to go. I am emailed a confirmation and then see a different price. I call back and speak to him again and he says, oh, that is an estimate but we would be done before that price. Then, I get a call from Mike. He wants to confirm my move and inventory. What the heck? He says his notes are confusing so he wants to check. We go over things, AGAIN. He then tells me that it sounds like more work so, he is going to send 5 guys instead of the original 2 guys and a truck because it's gonna be a big job and that it would take 9-12 hours and double the price that I was told. Umm, what? For a 2 bedroom apartment?? He tells me I can speak to his general manager, Kion. I literally confirmed with him before! I literally start crying because I am already stressed from preparing to move in a timely manner before the 31st. Kion and I speak again and he won't even let me get a word in and trying to say that the numbers Mike estimated are correct and that there is no way it wouldn't be a full day job. I cancelled, he says he will return my deposit and then transfers me to customer care where the guys asks me what can he help me with? You tell me, sir. He hears me out and says he need to speak with Kion to get his perspective and will call back. No one has called. Lesson learned to NEVER USE THIS COMPANY.

I booked my move a week in advance and paid a $100 deposit after being told it would guarantee my moving date and secure my spot. Then, only 3 days before my scheduled move, the manager -- I believe his name was David -- called to tell me they were fully booked for the entire week and that my move would either need to be rescheduled or canceled altogether. I made it very clear from the beginning that my apartment lease ends on the 31st and that I needed to move before then. Had this company been honest about the fact that paying a deposit did not actually guarantee service, I would have hired another moving company much earlier. Now I'm left scrambling at the last minute, despite having everything planned out. I also have to report to work in another state on the 1st, so this has created a major inconvenience and unnecessary stress. To make matters worse, speaking with them on the phone was a complete disaster. The communication was unprofessional, disorganized, and unacceptable. They agreed to refund the $100 deposit, but that does not make up for the inconvenience, stress, and potential consequences this situation may cause me. If I receive penalties from my landlord for a late move-out or face any employment-related consequences because of this company's failure to honor their commitment, I will absolutely be exploring all possible legal and consumer protection options.
