    damage to sideboard
    Taylor P.

We hired the movers for a local move. Initially, we were happily surprised with their promptness and Orlando's friendliness. During the move things changed, they were careless with my furniture, which led to extensive damage to multiple expensive pieces of furniture. When I tried to contact Orlando to obtain some sort of resolution, he took several weeks to get back, and when he did get back he kept saying give him some time. I am still yet to receive any sort of resolution despite them claiming to have insurance. I now have several thousands of dollars of damage to my furniture and no way forward to get it fixed. Despite feeling positive initially, it was ultimately a bad value. Things could have been different had they responded and held themselves accountable for the damage they did to my furniture.

Organized all my stuff and walked it up a flight of stairs pretty quickly!

I would give Ken Bailes 10 stars if I could. He is one piano tuner that knows his craft. Dedicated,…read moremethodical, and does his work with finesse and precision. My piano from 1949 was brought back to life by Ken Bailes. No other person could do what he did. It was not easy to tune this piano. He had to raise the pitch which in itself was no easy task on a 1949 Baldwin piano. He tuned each string with such passion and care. He was like a surgeon in the operating room. The piano was the patient and he brought it back to life. Now each note on my piano is a joy to hear. He is more than a professional. He approaches his work with laser-like focus and makes sure that each note and strings of the piano match the note and tone on his state-of-the-art tuning device. If you have a piano that needs tuning, please let Ken Bailes do it. I am convinced that he surpasses the highest bar set for anyone in his profession. He does not compromise on the quality and service. He does not take shortcuts. It took him 3 hours to tune my piano. Since my piano was from 1949, he had to go over it 3 times to make sure its pitch and note are accurate. He explained everything before starting. He explained how the tension of the wires affects the sound board and how the tightening has to be done carefully on an old piano. Some of the tuning pegs were hard to turn due the age of the piano, but under Ken's gentle but firm coaxing, the pegs turned. No easy task. He is one person you can trust 100 percent. Thank you, Ken!

Other places typically charge $175, however, Kenneth's now retired and is only doing this to keep himself busy. He probably does work a little slower in comparison to the major companies, however, he's very meticulous. You won't be disappointed! Plus he also has a lot of very crazy, interesting stories if you're ever interested.

I was especially impressed with their selection of ukuleles. Never have I seen so many in MD in one place! Definitely more than what Guitar center offers. They have an acoustic room in the back to try their acoustic/classical guitars. I had the chance to buy one of their used guitars at an amazing price. I appreciate the staff working with me on the price and even holding the instrument for a day when they could have easily sold it to next customer. Shows that they care about customer satisfaction more than just making a sale. I was able to spend a good amount of time trying out the instrument and they also helped tweak the intonation before I decided to take it home with me. The only few downsides I could see was some of the staff were not particularly knowledgeable about certain guitar models that they were selling, but much better than say Guitar Center. The humidification in the acoustic room basically only controlled by a residential type humidifier, so not very precise. Compared to other small guitar shops in the DMV, I don't think I would feel comfortable getting my guitar worked on here just based on the level of expertise I surmounted from the conversations I had. But a good place to buy gear nonetheless if you know what you are looking for. Parking is just a little challenging since it is in the middle of old town Gaithersburg. But in the past I have come on the weekends and there is some parking across the street at the museum.

This is the place to go in the DMV if you're looking for a new Yamaha piano…read more We were first-time piano buyers looking for a new U1. From what I read online, most piano dealers will quote an MSRP or "SMP (suggested maximum price)" with the expectation that you will haggle down the price. We went to our local Yamaha dealer [not Downtown Piano Works] and met with a sales associate recommended by our piano teacher. His first offer was already less than MSRP: I'm terrible at haggling, but I figured I'd try anyway and ask for a better price. A day later, he came back with another $500 off the price. I was feeling pretty good about myself and was getting ready to go to the store before his "offer expired." On a whim, minutes before I left, I thought I'd try the next closest Yamaha dealer, which happened to be Downtown Piano Works. I typed a chat message into their website, expecting a canned AI answer. Instead, Dan, the owner, responded right away. He told me to call him on his cell phone, and without hearing the other store's "lowest" price, he quoted a price that was $1500 less. There was no haggling, no wondering if I was getting a worse deal than everyone else on the internet. We drove with the kids an hour to Frederick just to make sure this wasn't too good to be true, and it wasn't. Dan and Theresa opened their store on a Saturday night, three hours after I'd first messaged their website. By the time we left, we were the owners of a new Yamaha U1. If you're in the market for a new Yamaha acoustic piano, within driving distance of Frederick, and want to avoid the usual stress of new piano shopping, I'd definitely try clicking chat on their website.
