I wanted to love this but my chicken tasted like it had been fried in old grease. It'll be awhile before I try them again.

I ordered the vegetable quesadilla which came out very hot and was plentiful. The server was attentive, and the food came out very quickly, even though there were several guests there. There was a separate bar area that was not noisy and TVs were around the restaurant. We'll definitely go back if we are in the area again.

That said, my hotel and dining radius leaned more toward Kings Mountain, NC, so that's where this story actually takes place. I arrived a bit early, checked into the hotel, swung by the venue to grab my packet, chatted with a few fellow runners, and then the most important question of the evening came up. Where are we eating? After a little web surfing, I landed on a spot called 238 Cherokee Grill. It was conveniently located near both the venue and the hotel, which immediately put it in the lead. My friend Jeff and I pointed ourselves in that direction. It was a Friday night, and the place was buzzing. We were told there would be about a 10-minute wait for a table. That slowly stretched into more like 15 to 20 minutes, but when two seats opened up at the bar, we made a quick executive decision and grabbed them. The bartender checked in fairly quickly, despite being clearly slammed. Once we had their attention, we ordered right away to keep things moving. I went with the classic burger, upgraded with lettuce, mushrooms, grilled onions, and a side of fries, ordered medium. Jeff went with the Smothered Chicken. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time, and everything hit the bar hot. The burger leaned a little more medium-rare than medium, which honestly worked in my favor. Good flavor, solid burger. The fries were hot and crispy, exactly how I wanted them after a day of travel and packet pickup. No complaints from either of us. Portions were solid, and the prices felt fair for what you get. The only real downside was that initial wait. There isn't much of an entryway to hang out in, and with the cold weather outside, that part wasn't exactly comfortable. That said, the staff was friendly, the service was solid, and the overall experience was a win. Would I go back if I'm in the area again? Yep. The menu had a few other things that caught my eye, and I'd happily give them a shot next time.

Of the ten patrons inside when we arrived, they all seemed to know each other. Thankfully, this didn't sway us one way or the other. We sat near the door, and I asked the bartender to turn on the game, which she did. Turns out the game wasn't on that channel, but I didn't want to disturb her conversation with the locals. Our waitress mentioned she was fairly new. She was attentive but kept forgetting things. I ordered the "must-have" Bessemer City Buzzard on a Stick, which is about half of a chicken breast seasoned and baked on a stick. The chicken wasn't as dry as I expected, but it also lacked flavor, and I had to pay $1 for sweet chili sauce to dip it in (3/5). The corn nuggets were nice and hot, and I enjoyed them (5/5). Note: I saw a couple of references to "redneck" while visiting, and I would characterize this place as a local redneck hangout.

It is typically loud in this establishment and when you call in an order during the afternoon or evening, you have to speak loud over the phone so they can hear you. I have ordered from them several times, but the wings are pretty pricey, so I don't go that much. However, they do offer wing discounts two days out the week. . Lastly, I really like their salads too!

We had come here in April of 2020 from what maps had shown. Since I didn't remember it, I decided,…read more"Why not try the supposed 'best breakfast in Gaston County'?" Well... first, the customer service from our waitress could have been so much better. I liked that many people were here and had high hopes, but that went nowhere. I honestly don't like complaining, but it was interesting that we weren't even asked if we wanted any refills on our coffee, meanwhile everyone else around definitely had some refills. Our waitress hardly checked on us. We observed another young lady who was as sweet as can be (Samantha), and I actually asked her about the tea since I just wanted that because, truthfully, the coffee was basically mud water, and not in a good way. I also found myself having to ask our waitress how much longer for our food to come out because it seemed to take way too long for the food we ordered. I ended up leaving more than half my eggs and the city ham, but I definitely liked the pancakes; they were pretty good, and the norm of a grilled cheese sandwich was eatable. I will add I wasn't expecting a high-class breakfast, but what could've made things so much better would've been the attentiveness and customer service from our waitress. We won't be returning, to say the least; it's added into a list I have of "NEVER go." Wish it would've been a better experience.
