Saturday is not the day to go to Micro Center Overland Park. I have been to other Micro Centers across the country and never have had a problem. I guess with no competition here they can get away with treating you like crap. The front end employees are poorly trained. On the other hand, the sales people in the back of the store are great. DO NOT LEAVE YOUR COMPUTER TO BE FIXED HERE!! I left my computer with a minor screen crack, still able to use the screen just fine, and left it there to be checked and quoted for a price to fix. When I went to pick up my computer it was in WAY worse shape than I brought it in and they tried to blame me for that. Now my screen has way more cracks and cannot be used at all. I was going to move my old files to my new computer but now I can't see and I am losing all of my data due to the carelessness of their techs. Very upset. I have lost all these files that I need and I can't do anything about it. Signing a paper to check it in is a death sentence on your computer. Go anywhere but here. read more

MicroCenter is fine but the device Buffalo Storage MAS device they sold SUCKS. I purchased a Raid LS220D (4TB x 2) and it failed after about 2 week, so I took it back! I then decided to go with a non-Raid device and went with the LS210D 4TB. I got it home and it would not work, support was worthless. I could not access the settings on the device to set it up. They wouldn't even think about debugging the issue or even try to look at it. They said since I just bought it, it is MicroCenters problem(where I bought it) not Buffalos. [u][b]It's like they didn't give a flying %$&# about their own product.[/b][/u] It was sealed by Buffalo and not an open box item or anything, so is it NOT their problem. An issue that I have is, I am disabled and can not drive. I have to pay someone to drive me to the store 40 miles away. So I have had to get someone to drive me there twice now. I am on a fixed income so paying for this comes out of my food allowance for the month. I asked buffalo if they would send me something to return this item and then send me a replacement item once this worthless one was received. Their response was, it's not Buffalos problem, it is your problem and MicroCenters problem. The problem I had with the raid LS220 device was that it had bad sectors even before I put data on it. I ran a scan on it when I first received it, it took about 3 1/2 days(86 hours) to complete. I ran a scheduled scan 2 weeks later and this one took just under 5 days(112 hours) to complete. Buffalo said oh you just have to let it complete, it's just fixing bad sectors, they would do nothing about it. SUPPORT DOES NOT WANT TO DO ANY WORK AT THIS COMPANY. If it is a new device, they just day take it back not our problem!! Why is a brand new device have all of these bad sectors?? Nothing could be done while this scan was running. Has anybody else encountered problems with these devices and their terrible LACK of support ! IF Buffalo's management wants to talk to me, they have my email address in my profile. Used to love this store until I took a computer in for repair. They charged $150 the first time to figure out why my PC was slow. Picked up...still slow. Took it in a 2nd time a few months later. Not only did they want ro charge me again for the same issue but the poor guy I was dealing with was on his 1st day. Took 1 hour just to drop off. Picked it up and not only slower but they had removed MicroSoft Office and various files. 3rd time...Wanted to charge me again and rather arrogantly told that I should just buy a new one. read more

Just left the store located at 9294 Metcalf Ave in Overland Park KS and went straight to the nearest Best Buy to have my laptop troubleshooted. I was the next customer in line while the techs finished with their customers. I did sign in at the kiosk and had two more customers walk in behind me and he got called next, I consider my time valuable evidently Micro Center does not ! I was a repeat customer but never again. Techs behind the counter were inattentive and never made eye contact nor did I receive any acknowledgement of my existence. The MicroCenter tech contacted us the same business day I let them know of the problem and they worked on the phone with our sone to resolve the problem in about an hour. Their service on my laptop that I brought in was shoddy. They did diagnose the problem but after I picked it up and my son drove all of the way to Manhattan KS, he discovered that they left software on the machine, changed the network adapters and internet connection. He is now in the middle of finals preparation with no internet connection. They have incompetent technicians that are not supervised. NEVER go there and let them touch your machine! read more

Brought my IMac in for service today after having issues the night before with an Apple update. Came here after speaking with an Apple service advisor. Genius Bars were booked elsewhere so was directed to Microcenter as a "supposedly" Apple authorized service center. Since the issue was created because of an Apple update download, there was supposed to be no charge for the service. After getting to my appointment, the rude employee immediately said they would charge for any work. I told them that Apple had authorized the work to fix the problem. Did not matter to the Microcenter employee or her manager. Bottom line is do not go to Microcenter for Apple service. They aren't competent to diagnose a laptop issue after being told that the hard drive was good and had been mounted and running on another computer right before we took the laptop in for repair, they still claimed that it was a bad hard drive. Price match is false adverting! They rather take a refund than price match in a recent event. I wish they track purchases to reward loyal customers, I've purchased over 30k worth of stuff but they had no way to figure that out. Sales people worry about putting their stickers on the product. I bought a laptop from Microcenter June 4, 2015. Within 2 weeks the hard drive was bad. I also bought ESET 3 year antivirus protection. I brought the computer in to fix and they said they would get right to it. A week later they still hadn't gotten to it. I then asked to just exchange it which they did. They proceeded to charge me $60 to backup the hard drive on a computer they sold me they didn't work! When I got the new computer my ESET card must have been in the old box so I didn't have the number to register the software. ESET told me Microcenter would have no problem getting me taken care of because I had the receipt and Microcenter would also have all the records. They had no interest in standing behind it! I buy about 7-10 computers a year. I stopped using Microcenter about 5 years ago because they aren't very knowledgeable but I was in a hurry and they were open later than the Microsoft store the night I needed the computer. I hope to never step foot in a Microcenter again! They have horrible service and don't stand behind their sales. read more

Use to be my favorite store. However, learned the sale staff personnel are liars and management covers for them. When they do not know the answer they will make one up just to make the sale. Example: AT&T and T-Mobile are CDM, Sprint and Cricket are CDMA. What??? I even wrote it down, had him confirm it, and gave him a chance to redeem himself. Regardless, that's the excuse given when I learned the phone would not work on Cricket, although the rep assured me it would when it was purchased, just to make the sale. The store would not even consider an exchange for a lesser price discontinued model that would, and will be in the bargain basement or clearance department shortly. Don't be fooled by the mindless shirt & tie sale men. Especially those that say something does not exist, like a 3.0 USB female-to-male extension connector, and say its only available as a cable; I have purchased two elsewhere. Big product selection but for a honest and knowledgeable staff go to HyperTech or even Target, Best Buy and Walmart. Do not talk with a sales person, do your own research or you will regret allowing their staff assisting you make a purchase decision. For me, I'm out $242.21 and they could care less. read more

I will go on to say that I love this place and spend a lot of money on all my computer needs. With that being said their build your own pc counter needs more customer service skills. I purchased $800+ to build my own pc and my associate was Michael McCord. My first interaction was great and I got all the parts I needed. Well my motherboard was D.O.A. And I had to return it for a new one. When doing the exchange I accidentally left the motherboard mounting screws in the box when I returned the bad motherboard. I called the store and they said they said they would have them their with my name on them no problem. As my luck would have it they didn't and they called Michael McCord to help. He was very rude and disrespectful. Even when I tried to explain what had happened he basically told me they couldn't find the bag so there was nothing they could do. I offered to just to buy mounting screws and he found them and threw them at me and said "here ya go have at it". I have never been so disrespected in all my life especially when I was as polite as possible. I can't recommend this dept for computer parts I would rather pay a bit extra where people treat you like a customer not someone who is wasting their time read more

I love this place. I am not a computer geek, so when they start talking technical, I get dizzy, but appreciate their unassuming nature. I just read a review by a female who feels discriminated against. I think discrimation is a strong word. I never have ever experienced that in my tons of visits to the store. This is the only place I shop for DVD-R's or my computer needs. I have always been asked several times per visit if I needed assistance. Very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. They do not get paid commission, so they have nothing to gain by selling crap you don't need. I have been told the lower priced item was just as good, if not better than a name brand. I wouldn't go early evening on the weekend if you don't like crowds. Its like a mini comic-con of people in there. When its busy, its difficult to find out when the staff is outnumbered 10 to 1, so you will need to be patient for assistance, but it is there. read more

This store seems more concerned about getting their commission for every sale than actually getting you the product you need. Not only that but if you actually come in with knowledge of what your looking for they spend most of their time insulting your intelligence rather than just providing you with the product that you would like. A few weeks ago, my graphics card started acting up. Since I had purchased the 2 yr repair/replacement plan, I took it in to exchange it. Ended up talking to one of your floor sales reps Don Schreck. On this visit, Don was extremely helpful and explained that if I could stand waiting a few weeks, the new 1080 GTX card would be arriving. He took down my information and told me he'd email me to let me know when they new cards came in. Fast forward two weeks, sure enough I get an email from Don saying they new cards are here, but unfortunately, it's release was highly anticipated and they sold out in minutes. Totally not Dons fault. I went to the store anyway and exchanged my GPU for a gift card. Talked to Don for a few minutes and he said he'd let me know when the next shipment arrives. A few minutes later, after walking around a bit, Don comes running up to me and tells me two more cards just arrived out of the blue. He runs back, grabs one for me and I leave extremely happy. Not only did Microcenter make the exchange painless, but Don really stepped up and did absolutely everything he could to be as friendly and helpful as possible. FYI, I didn't make this review after just one bad experience, MicroCenter is 5 for 5 with these deficiencies and I'll never go back. Lost a 12 year customer. Website inventory has never matched what they have in stock at store. (Had one guy when I showed up say, "Oh that missing Intel 7260 NIC, Yeah that things a ghost." OMFG!) I love that since Google Fiber has came to the city the store prices for anything networking have skyrocketed. Ethernet cord, switches, NIC's, WiFi adapters, Maybe a rich person in Johnson County (with a have it now attitude) would pay $100 for a laptop NIC, but a smart shopper like me would pay $20 from TigerDirect and wait 8 days. They don't price match either, only NeeEgg, seriously, who even uses NeeEgg? I love the consistent run around to their store only to disgustingly find out that they dont have it in stock. I also enjoy everytime I go there are literally NO DDR3 laptop RAM. wow, who does the ordering here, someones 2nd grader. They were awesome back in 2004-2011. Now they are money hungry, commission making, lack of customer service representatives, with NO INVENTORY. Oh I highly encourage you to order online first for the pickup at store option. You can wait in line for 35 minutes while the customers in front of you complain about a return they have because it's the same line, while all you want to do is holler at the 50 year old man and say, it isn't the hardware, its the operator! This store is ok. I see a lot of people saying their prices are low which is not true. Their prices are always much higher than newegg.com or Amazon. They will try and price match for you but it will still always be more expensive because of tax and when you are buying $500-$1000 dollars of computer hardware that tax can be a lot. The staff is generally knowledge some more than others. If you're looking for a quick fix for your computer and can't wait two days for shipping this is the place to go, otherwise save yourself money and shop online. read more

Fairly knowledgeable staff as far as the computer specs required for a particular operation are. I was going to pick a lower end laptop because it fit my price range but after learning I was going to be doing video editing they looked up a refurbished computer with WAY better specs at a lower price. Too good to be true but I jumped on it anyways. After turning down the warranty three times in a row in five minutes, the sales rep continued to PUSH the warranty quite hard. Another red flag, but I continued my purchase hoping for the best. After my incredibly long drive back to missouri I get home and boot up the new laptop. "Oh WOW" I exclaimed as it booted up insanely fast. Minutes later it blue screened and I knew why he was pushing the warranty so hard. Frustrated I just bought a lemon I immediately took the 2 hour round trip to return the busted laptop. Now out a ton of gas and no laptop for video work. Needless to say I'll spend my money on a NEW computer elsewhere. They had incredibly great deals on accessories though. Stay away from refurbished and you should be ok. read more
