Mickeys has always been a favorite childhood subject and pizza place. I moved to the cities 23 years ago and hadn't had a sub in about 10 years. I was so excited to go today. I ordered a ham and turkey with tomatoes, onion, spinach, cucumbers and olives and banana peppers. Got home to eat it... no tomatoes, no onion. One measly slice of ham and turkey - 2 tiny cucumbers and one or two pieces of wilted spinach. I couldn't believe it: it was basically a mayo bread sandwich. I found this place on Yelp and I'm glad I did. First of all the smelling baking bread hits you when you walk in - a most welcoming smell! Sure enough the sub rolls tasted fresh and delicious - truly a difference maker with the sub. I got an Italian. I loved it - half sub was the perfect size for me. We also tried the brownie - highly recommend. Great spot for a cheap lunch in a favorite local spot. I loved reading all about their history on the TV screens in the restaurant. read more

It's hard to believe when I think about it, but I've been getting subs at Mickey's since the early 80s, when they were located by my junior high school - 40 years ago! It's crazy, but the food there is just as delicious as ever. I haven't lived up there for many years now, but whenever I am in town I have to stop in. And what's really cool about this place, is that some of the same faces are there from when I was 13 years old, getting a sub after football practice, and they remember me. It's not just a local favorite due to nostalgia....they make fantastic food, and whenever I tell people to go there, they always tell me they loved it. Apparently this is the place to be for a good sub sandwich. What I will say is if I'm judging it on that, it was good especially the bread which seemed fresh from the oven and with lots of multi grains. The soup was good as well. I had the chicken wild rice. You have to serve it yourself is a small styrofoam bowl. I like more complex sandwiches and flavors so the rave about this spot quickly turned my excitement into a lack luster feeling. Even after saying it was my first time there. No one explained where the water was or how or when to pay was to occur. I muddled through though. Waiting for help was excessive. They don't really seem to look up to the front much to see if customers were waiting. I'll let the locals keep their hot spot. For me, I probably won't be back sadly. read more

It was the day before of our sons wedding and we had guests at Kavanaughs trickling in from the road that I knew would be hungry. I called around to the other "well known sub sandwich shops" Looking for a large sub or platter package. They all wanted a days notice. Mickeys stepped in and saved the day. By the time I arrived at their shop the platters of delicious subs were ready. Everything g was perfect and l felt good knowing that I was supporting a locally owned business. Being kind of a seemingly landmark restaurant I felt compelled to check this place out. They appeared to be very busy with what must have been call in orders as not many customers waiting or seated. Was a little strange not asked if order was to go or eat in. Even stranger to me was paying when picking up the food instead of at time of order. Looked like the restaurant could use a little fixing up and most tables needed to be wiped down which is a little more important to me these days. However the sandwich was pretty good with the bread being the star. The wild rice soup was very good but not real thick. I want to know how the pizza is? It had pretty reasonably prices. read more

I've loved this place for many many years. The bread is always fresh and the subs are always fantastic. Their take and bake pizzas are also very good. The subs are not overly complicated and there's only 2 kinds of bread - whole wheat or white - which makes this a perfect spot to take the kids. However you can still fancy up and customize your sub to your hearts desire. Their cookies are soft and a perfect end to any meal. Staff/employees are super friendly. Love this place! read more

Mickey's is an institution in Brainerd. Take-away bake-for-yourself pizzas and submarine sandwiches are what they're primarily known for. Mickey's building is a funky round design straight out of another decade. I am visiting home in Brainerd and here for a few weeks. Mickey's was the first obvious place to pick up lunch. I called in my order for a 12" roast beef sub and it was ready by the time I made the short drive over. Fast, tasty, good quality ingredients, and friendly staff. The owner/manager has been there every time I've gone in for over a decade. Walking in, you know to expect good food at a good price and good, friendly service. I'm more than happy to support a local establishment that has managed to survive (and thrive!) in a town where people consider having an Olive Garden to be a status symbol. read more

Great subs. Good pizza's, keep in mind though they are take n bake. In this age of putrid choices like quizno or subway, its awesome to know mom and pop shops like this still exist. Prices are a little higher than garbage joints like Subway, but at least you are getting a real sandwhich and not puff air bread and gross chemically enhanced meat (hi subway). Subs here are filling..half a sub is great for lunch. Sometimes I'll get a full sub and it will either be 2 meals or 1 meal followed by a couple hours of laying on the couch in a gluttonous haze :D The pizza's are pretty good as well, they use good quality cheese and meats. Pepperoni is my favorite, sometimes I eat a bunch off the pizza before I stick in the oven hehehehe naughty! read more

In front of the staff we were talking about how we should split a pizza and salad and that would be filling for both...yep they said nothing...we paid, still nothing...sit down and our name gets called, i go up expecting a hot pizza and our salad...and i see a take and bake pizza...i ask why it isnt cooked (feeling stupid but thinking maybe they confused it...) that is when they inform me that they are take n bake only...we relook at the menu on the counter and it doesnt say that...seriously though...for the price you pay...you would at least EXPECT that they tell you when you are talking about it in front of them....We cooked the pizza when we got home and it was ok, not worth the price. Good subs! Bread is a little too much for the meat to bread ratio, but they have lots of options for toppings, you can choose different types of dressing, as well as bread. They also have soups, wraps, salads, pizza! Their pizza is fresh and ready to pop in the oven!! In town on business and looking for a good local place. I drove by the place and saw their old sign. Places like this attract me. I walked in and the first impression was, wow, this place is clean! Then I was greeted and everyone was very friendly and I then I ordered my sub. I had an Italian with everything on it including Italian dressing. It was a great sandwich. In high school we would come here during lunch and get a sub. I would usually get the turkey and it was always great. Mickey's existed before Subway was this enormous sandwich conglomerate. No only are they tastier than Subway but they are also locally owned. They've always used good bread and fresh ingredients. I use to love this place but they have just gotten worse over the years. Ordered over the phone and still had to wait a good fifteen minutes for our food, even though nobody was in there. Get to know the people and who makes your subs. They rushed too quick and my salad took the hit. I requested sw ranch and got salsa. The veggies were sparse and far between. They reported putting extra lettuce in because they ran out of spinach. Didn't appear so on the consumer end.
