Honestly veryyyyyy surprised by this place. I'm not from the Brainerd area and so when I saw they had a sushi restaurant I was pleasantly surprised but skeptical because it's such a small, unassuming location with a drive-thru. Sushi drive-thru? I'd never experienced that before. I heard good things from people in the area so I tried it out and the sushi was really good! I loved the taste and the fish was fresh too. My only beef with this place is that the rolls were very small for the price. The lunch combo was a good deal but the sushi rolls again were just a tad on the smaller end. We also tried one of their hibachi chicken dishes which came with rice and that was a nice big portion. The chicken was so spicy and tasty!! We loved it. Definitely give this place a try and don't judge it because of its location! read more

There are very little options for competition to sushi in the Brainerd Lakes Area, but this location actually has great food. The dynamite and smoked tuna are tasty, their Miso is always hot and the drive-thru makes for a convenient pick-up. I have eaten here at least ten times since it's discovery this summer and I've yet to have a bad experience. read more

Just had a good sushi meal in Brainerd! We have had a lot of sushi meals around the USA and this was a solidly good sushi meal. Price point was on par with the area. Quality was very good. Atmosphere was typical for quick dining restaurants but it was clean and well kept. Service was very friendly, helpful, and courteous. Overal we will be back again, frequently. read more

Stopped by as we were in Brainerd for the day. We were craving some Chinese food, but we settled for Sakura. Looks like a fairly new place and not many reviews. Certainly impressed and not disappointed. The missus ordered a Spider Roll and Sea Weed Salad. I settled for the Singapore Hibachi Chicken with a side of noodles (instead of rice). Gal at the counter hooked me up with the lunch special (11-3, Mon-Sat.). The portion was huge, and she said the dinner portions are even bigger! That is a lot of food. Chicken was cooked to perfection. The dish while certainly flavorful to me, was not very spicy as their menu indicated.But then again my tolerance to spice is a lot more than the average Midwestern folk and most Asian places cut the spice back to make the food more palatable to the general population. Sea Weed salad was very flavorful, filling, and had a hint of wasabi. Large serving size for the price. Spider Roll was excellent. Probably the best of all the dishes we had. Crab meat was perfect and (again) flavor was amazing. Sakura Express is intended to be primarily a take out/fast food restaurant. To keep costs low, food is served on disposable plates. Silverware matches the plates. Maybe owners should consider upping the game here a bit. Keeping the existing quality of food and having some decent dinnerware will certainly give this place 5 stars. Usually this place is great. However I'm still waiting for my to go order and it has been almost 45 minutes. If I did not already pay I would leave. People who ordered after me are receiving their orders. I'm not sure if it's because they only have one guy making sushi but rolls have been coming out. I sure hope the food today is as good as usual. This is really disappointing. They could use more help. The young man taking orders is doing a great job but you can see he is stressed. I always thought sushi was quick. read more

I wasn't sure about this restaurant but after looking at the menu I really wanted to try the hibachi shrimp. This dish was everything! The shrimp were a nice size and plentiful! The vegetables were nicely cooked. I would recommend this place. read more

Went in here not knowing what to expect... but do not be concerned by the outside exterior. We were VERY pleasantly surprised. Tried a variety of items including the gyoza, steak lomein, shrimp fried rice, buffalo roll, fantasy roll, monster roll, and one other roll that I can't recall the name of. Yum. Yum. Yum. We got a large order from this place while staying at the local water park. It was take-out and driving there took about 20 min one way so when we got back to our hotel and noticed that my seaweed salad (of course it's MY item) we immediately called. They stated we could pick it up or have a credit for next time. We were not driving 40 minutes round trip for a $4.50 salad and we aren't from here so a credit is useless. We asked for them to credit our credit card back the $4.50 (plus whatever tax we paid on that).... it is now almost 2 weeks later and no credit... :O shocker! So I've disputed the entire charge with my credit card company. I hope they do the right thing. If so I may be able to update my review somewhat. As for the food... we ordered like 5 rolls. They all looked really good, but they were little more than okay. We got two deep fried ones which sounded good, but were very chewy and not very flavorful. We got two chicken dishes... general tso's (which wasn't very spicy, but was good) and another non-spicy chicken dish which was very tender and filled with vegetables. Quite tasty. Both of these were a lot of food so the price was pretty reasonable. read more
