Yummy yum Yumm!! This tiny stall inside maunakea market bust out little puffy egg like things like nobody's business. You want bubble tea? Sure! You want tapioca, boba, lychee, mochis and jelly galore? No problem! How about a waffle like dessert thing except this ones shaped like little eggs? Yes please! Yumm Yumm! For $4, you can get about a dozen or two puffs. It's all a cluster in one giant thing but it's pretty good. Now I've had egg puffs elsewhere too so I kind of a taste preference. This one, you get a whole lot more for your money. Taste is a ok. Not magical or spectacular. Bubble tea was good. It's a good spot in this busy market to stop by for a quick cold drink. During a recent trip through Chinatown, my family and I went to Mickey Café, in search of good boba/slushies. It was a hot, Sunday afternoon, and I just wanted a cool smoothie. I had spotted Mickey Café on Yelp since it opened recently, and while my dad looked for parking, my mom and I searched for the café. You definitely can't find it from the street level--it's basically within the Maunakea Marketplace area. Both of us aren't super comfortable/familiar with the Chinatown area, so it took us a little bit to find it. But, I'm so glad we finally did. The workers here are really helpful and friendly, and they were more than willing to answer any questions I had. Mickey Café must be pretty popular, because there was a crowd surrounding the small kiosk. There's a menu board that's easy to read, and they even listed some of their customer favorites when it comes to drinks. I would definitely return to Mickey Café if I'm ever in Chinatown again, since I really enjoyed my drink, it was a reasonable price and the staff was friendly. I think, as always in Chinatown, parking is the biggest issue. By the time my dad circled around the block a few times, we already had our drinks ready, so we didn't actually need to find parking after all. Here's what we got: "Banana and Strawberry Smoothie": Both of my parents got this drink, and they found it to be really refreshing. The smoothies here are thick in consistency but not overly sweet. And, the cups are large, so you know you're getting your money's worth. My mom and dad liked the balanced blend of both strawberry and banana in every sip. "Mocha Smoothie": This is pretty much my go-to at any smoothie place because I love mocha flavors. What a great blend of coffee and chocolate. I especially liked this one from Mickey Café because it was thicker, featured a distinct mocha flavor and it reminded me of one of my favorite mocha smoothies from Thang's Iced Coffee and Smoothies in Kalihi. It certainly hit the spot on the sunny, warm afternoon. It will be hard to deviate from this option, since I loved it so much! "Coffee Milk Tea": If I ever return to Mickey Café, this is the milk tea flavor I would want to try first. I like coffee-flavored drinks, so I'm sure this would be a refreshing treat. "Sugarcane with Jasmine Tea": This is the first place where I ever saw sugarcane drink options on the menu. A few customers in front of us ordered drinks with the sugarcane flavor; my mom and I were both intrigued by this option and want to try it one day. They give you the menu w/ pictures of their products, you select your desired food/drink, the selective time slots (the time when it's already prepped and you're present to pick it up) l, and they give you the option to pay in cash (which is obviously in person) or to pay by card on their Yelp page! Mickey Cafe is one of the reasons I am willing to brave the craziness of Chinatown crowds and parking. I had only been here once prior to this visit, but I loved my drink so much that I knew I had to return the next time I went to Chinatown. The business is located in maunakea marketplace, so "conveniently" located as far as Chinatown goes. I've gotten into a more fruity boba drink phase. This can be frustrating because despite the plethora of boba shops that have popped up over the years, I can't say I have found one where I love their fruit smoothie or slush drinks. The drinks are either just fruit flavored syrup or the little bit of fruit content seems to float out of the rest of the drink. Mickey Cafe shows those other boba shops how to make smoothies the right way. Before even talking about the quality of the drink, I have to comment on how much I appreciate how well the business accommodates its customers. If you can't decide on which fruit you're in the mood for that day (and let's be honest, who doesn't have this problem every day they order boba), then they have the option of choosing a combination. They offer their own recommendations, but just ask about your two favorite fruits if they aren't listed under their suggested combinations. I couldn't decide between passion fruit and lychee, so I got a mix of the two. It's great that you can actually see the real fruit while they make the drink. The use of actual fruit comes through in the drink, from the flavor of the juice to the bits of blended passion fruit seeds. As for this particular combo, the passion fruit flavor overpowered the lychee, so I think a few more lychee would help balance out the drink flavors more. Was a busy Sunday early afternoon for them. Had about 5 others waiting for their drink order before I ordered so I thought that was a good sign. Ordered an Avocado no boba and a Mango with boba. Order took about 10 mins to get, which I was okay with because of how busy they were. Used my check in 10% off Yelp offer with no problem. Got my order. Avocado had boba when I asked for none but I didn't want to have them remake....anyways, DID NOT TASTE like avocado. I believe a few Yelp reviews I read stated they make it with fresh fruit, this tastes very artificial let alone with no avocado taste. The Mango was VERY sweet but at least it had a Mango taste, on the artificial side but whatever. They take cards which is the reason for my two stars. FRESH FRUIT! Fruit smoothies for $3.50 including boba in the heart of Chinatown's foodcourt is quite the steal. The stand and the storefront is quite small, yet there is still numerous signs posted showing a wide variety of fruit/milk tea, slush, smoothie, options posted overhead. Service was quick and polite. Ordered a honeydew smoothie, (which was not made using that generic milk tea powder, and actual fruit thank god), complimented with delicious warm boba right at the bottom of my drink. This place is pretty great. Fresh fruit (not powder), fresh tasting boba (choose large or small size) and friendly service. I got the Mango and Papaya combo with large boba. It was $4, with tax included. It was a large size cup (I was kind of struggling to drink the last quarter of it), with a generous boba portion. The fruit and boba smoothies are $3.50 for 1 flavor but you can mix flavored for 50 cents more. The awesome thing about going to Chinatown and hitting the Maunakea marketplace are getting to walk around and experience so much in such a small space. And graze your way through... Stopped by Chinatown today and it was kind of muggy and hot so what better way to cool down than with bubble tea! I rarely go to Chinatown nowadays, but used to come to this bubble tea stall a lot when it was called something else. Today was the first time coming under the new name Mickey Cafe. As in the past, there is a variety of fresh fruit smoothies, milk tea, juices with sugarcane, and tea drinks. They also still sell the egg puffs snacks (which I love) in the regular flavor or chocolate. I ordered the jasmine milk tea with boba and an order of the regular egg puffs. Make sure you check in on Yelp before ordering to get the 10% off your purchase. My drink came out first and on the first sip I could taste the hint of jasmine tea, which is great because I like to have more of the tea flavor in my milk teas. The boba was ok, the consistency was more on the denser side. I usually ask for light ice for my drinks, but this time I forgot and the drink came out with just the right amount, so that's a plus for them! My egg puffs took about 5 minutes or so, but when it was done it was definitely hot and crispy! I saw some Yelpers had commented on burnt egg puffs but mine came out perfectly golden. As I was leaving I was blowing on it to cool it down and plopping off pieces to eat. It was crunchy on the outside with the right amount of doughiness on the inside. The service was quick and friendly and I would definitely come again if I'm in Chinatown. I saw that they have an app in place of a stamp card, but my phone has so many things on it that I don't need another app. I would have preferred an actual stamp card, or if there was a way for businesses to incorporate a stamp card program in Yelp, that would be even better. read more

I'm a bit disappointed that Cafe De Tim closed. I used to love to go there for their egg puffs. Didn't realized it's different people running it and a different name til after I ordered. I got their watermelon juice with boba and egg puffs. The watermelon juice boba was fine, since that's pretty hard to screw up. However, the egg puff just didn't turn out like how it did when I would get it at Cafe De Tim. The man messed up the first one or something and was nice enough to make a second one, however, it wasn't good. The batter was fine, but it wasn't crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Instead, it was just soft. I think it was because they didn't have a timer on it to control the cooking time like how the other stand did nor was there a cooling rack and fan after it was made. I come here all the time, because the smoothies are always terrific! This placed used to be called Cafe de Tim and they just transferred ownership recently. The egg puffs are really good and popular! They used to be cash only, but now accept credit and debit cards. Started coming here when they first opened over 3 years ago when it was called something else.. My favorite is and always will be their green tea smoothie. The twist the owner always made for me and my sisters, green tea with soy milk and aloe chunks! Sooo gooood.. Unfortunately they no longer have a supplier for their aloe and it has since been removed from their menu. As far as their other smoothies, they use real fresh fruits! I was pretty disappointed with my visit here and I had high hopes for this place based on the reviews. I went there just for the nice looking egg puffs and so I ordered two orders of the chocolate puffs for me and my friends After waiting about 10 min i started to think what kinda puffs these were. Being the not so expert on egg puffs I assumed, okay it has to cook a certain way maybe that's why it's taking a little longer than expected. I got my order and it was just one regular egg puff order. Confused I said uhhh I have another order? And this should be chocolate? They apologized and said they'll make the next order chocolate and refund me 50 cents. Fine. Nothing wrong, people make mistakes. Then at the 20 min mark I finally got my 2nd order and she gave it to me with a refund and apologized because she burnt them......sigh. Seriously only saw this place as I was nearby and super hot while walking around with my family. When I offered to buy drinks for everyone who was interested, I had no idea that I would be waiting a crazy amount of time because the lady who was running the place was by herself caring for her baby. She seemed a bit overwhelmed as I made sure the drink order was correct. It didn't help that English wasn't her first language, but I didn't fault her for that as I was in Honolulu's Chinatown. While waiting for our drinks, the line was building up with other tourists and since she was alone caring for her baby with one arm and a stroller to rock the baby, our drinks were still yet to be made. She was also the drink maker and she had a group of guests that were also hot and thirsty. Yep, you can definitely guess what I was immediately regretting. So she looks frazzled because she knows she's got a shit load of drinks to make and guess what? Her baby starts fussing in the stroller. She ends up calling her husband over (I'm assuming since he had a ring on and he started to carry the baby) to do the register and take drink orders while she and some other lady nearby start on making the drinks. Yes people, it does take a village. Our drinks are finally ready and oops, I forgot to tell you that we ordered three sugarcane drinks- two with pineapple and boba, and one with coconut. The other two were watermelon boba and jasmine milk tea. After all that commotion and seeing the chaotic buildup, the drinks were delicious! In the end, I wished I just left mine to be alone not mixed with pineapple. The pineapple just took over the sugarcane, but loved the boba. Their boba is nice and chewy, the mixes/flavors are just how I like it-flavorful and not super fake tasting. They'll often put real fruit chunks/slices in their fruit teas. My fave drink is their iced mango green tea. It's perfect for a hot day, and the mango chunks make it way better than other tea places in town. The chefs at Mickey Cafe diced fresh mango and pour a bunch inside an iced cold cup of green tea. Upon request, the lady at the counter can customize the amount of sweetness in a boba cup. I really really wanted to like this place, because I am all for small local locations. I guess I should have gotten the egg puffs, but I didn't look at yelp beforehand so I didn't realize that's what they were known for. Instead, I got a Thai milk tea and my husband got a Vietnamese coffee. The Vietnamese coffee was okay, not the best drink ever but pretty good tasting. The Thai Milk Tea however, was unfortunately one of the worst I have had. It was so watered down that it didn't have that creamy, sweet, aromatic flavors of a thai milk tea at all. It seemed like one of those canned versions mixed with water and ice. Also, the boba balls were too soft and not chewy at all, except for a few random ones that were way too hard and couldn't be chewed at all.
