We had lunch at Mickey & Bills. My wife grew up in Mars Hill in the 50's through the 60's and has patronized for years however, the pizza we had today was very seriously OVER PRICED for what amounted to a small 8" tortilla for a crust and canned Italian flavored tomato paste, frozen hamburger warmed up and 8/10 pieces of pepperoni and a bit of mozzarella cheese. In all seriousness, there wasn't Five $5 worth of ingredients in two pizzas, an over priced Costco bottled water and bottle of tea that was a brand I've never heard of. She was disappointed because of her memories of how good it was in the 60's did not match how bad this restaurant has fallen. The website makes it look like they have a huge dining room but there was seating for 10 persons...that's it. The staff were very nice but as far as food and price, we honestly think we were screwed over. We won't be back and wouldn't suggest Mickey & Bill's to anyone. Just no good. read more

While traveling along Kentucky Avenue, I saw the sign for Mickey & Bill's Pizza, so I slowed to turn and go over the railroad tracks to get to this small shop. They have a small lot along the building and the entrance is on the northeast side. As I entered into the lobby where the order counter was, I noticed a very small dining room to my left and a few chairs to sit at if I needed to wait. I was greeted and the woman behind the counter was very patient and helpful in describing the ingredients in the uniquely named pizzas. (Note that they have flyers off to the left side of the counter which I hadn't seen when entering.) The less specific menu is listed overhead behind the counter. I hadn't called ahead, but since it wasn't a busy time, they were able to make my small pizza in about 15 minutes. I got one called "The Works" which had 8 party cut pieces and is similar to Supreme pizzas elsewhere: crumbled sausage, mushroom, green pepper, onions, pepperoni, and two kinds of cheese on a thin crust. While waiting, I noticed they also have wings and breadsticks, salads, and some sandwiches to choose from. They also have an option called "Take & Bake Pizza" that you get your pizza freshly made but finish baking it at home. And I recommend grabbing a flyer since they have a list of discounts available on larger orders. And the pizza? Well, my wife and I like a crisp bottom crust so this was very enjoyable. The ingredients were also piled high with just enough sauce and cheese to balance the flavor. The firm crust allowed the ingredients to stay on the pizza without falling off. That's a plus for me. (Not so much for my dog.) I don't know if I like pizza (any pizza) enough to drive out of my way for, but if you are commuting along Kentucky Avenue or live in the area, I suggest you will enjoy your food from here. Please, please do not eat here. Breadsticks, no flavor and hard as a brick. Pizza, store bought frozen pizza crust. Rubbery cheese. Disgusting. Tasted like cardboard. We spent $60 here and regret everything. I cannot believe people are recommending this place and giving them 4 and 5 stars. Frozen pizza from the grocery would surpass this. I would rather eat a little Caesars hot and ready sitting out for 8 hours before eating this. Just don't. It all went in the trash. We cried when we opened the box and saw what had arrived. How am I just now reviewing this place! I've eaten here since I was a wee one and I still try to get it any time I'm on this side of town. You don't feel "meh" about Mickey & Bills - you love it or hate it. I love it! The cardboard crust is still flavorful and never sags or slips, so your pile of toppings stay put. The cheese is quality and the sauce is perfectly tangy. Their prices have risen over the years, but they have a pizza happy hour and they are a staple of the neighborhood. The taco pizza was awesome. We tried it as a recommendation from someone else. It was over an inch thick and weighed a lot. Tons of ingredients and very tasty. The only thing I would change is the taco sauce they give you to put on the pizza. So if you have a favorite salsa, use it instead of the packets they provide you you will be glad you did. read more

I have always loved Mickey and Bills. However, the quality has gone down over the years. It is obvious that they started using frozen crust. Tonight, I just paid $17 on a SMALL Taco pizza., I was expecting the usual, but tonight I noticed that there is a new crust. I swear on all that is holy, the crust is the size of tortilla. Size AND thickness. Seriously...a burrito sized tortilla. It was so thin that it could barely hold the toppings. It was more like a flat soft taco than it was a taco pizza. I was so disappointed. I can't believe that this hasn't been reviewed yet. An Indy fixture, they have been doing something right since the early 60s. The pizza is in a class by itself, because it really isn't like others. You'll find out when you try it, and be pleasantly surprised. I usually carry out, but there is a small dining room. I usually can't get out of the parking lot without eating a slice though. Ordered a Mars hill monster. Asked for peppers olives and pineapple to only be on half of the pizza. We have the receipt to prove what we ordered. It was rang up correctly. We called to complain. They told us it was our fault they messed up. We told them we had the receipt. Again we were told it was our fault. They hung up on us. Lost our business. Their pizza is good when it's right. Customer service skills are poor at best. Lost a customer for life. Never again will they get a penny from us. We also waited an hour and a half. Saturday night. I get that. The phone rang and then someone picked up and said "Mickey and Bill's, please hold" and then placed me on hold. There is a secret to Mickey & Bills. It's 'Order lots of toppings and make sure one of them is sausage'. The pizza only becomes good when it's covered in a ridiculous layer of toppings. The crust is thin the sauce is basic. I do love the crumbly almost chorizo like textured sausage. (It's not spicy like chorizo, just small little crumbly bits). It comes square cut and like most things is improved with beer (which they don't serve). The cheese, sauce, and crust were flavorless. The sausage gave some flavor, but it was cheap sausage with lots of filler. The pizza is not baked as a pizza should be. The cheese was barely melted and the crust was like white bread. We paid thirty dollars once we added a tip. Driving around Indy on a cold a rainy night, wanted something different than any of the fast food chains in the area. Took a chance on M&B and was definitely impressed! The pizza and Stromboli sandwich was delicious. The price was a little high for the size pizza I got but the taste made up for it.
