This is hands down my favorite sushi restaurant, EVER. The owner is almost always there and even works the sushi bar to ensure quality control. I like to sit at the bar and watch them make rolls and ask questions, which they do not mind at all but don't forget to tip them! I typically get the sashimi entree which fills me up ($22), but there isn't a roll I have tried that I didn't like. This restaurant is definitely not cheap, but for a good reason. The fish is always the freshest and they pay close attention to detail from the hostess, to the sushi chef, to the drink attendants and servers. I learned why the pickled ginger there is white and not pink. Ask a sushi chef why! My favorite cocktail is the lychee martini ($10). The ambiance is modern and classy. You can most certainly wear shorts and flip flops here, but I think this business deserves better. It does get cold in here so bring a light jacket if you're going sleeveless. OK, if YELP would let me, i would give this place a 3.5. I'm an intense sushi lover and i try to find extraordinary places to try. I've been to this restaurant a handful of times and usually when i go here, i order the sashimi platter for two. It is delicious and it has a very beautiful presentation. Sometimes my boo and I order crab cakes and they're not really anything special. I remember ordering a martini once, no, no, not good. I think i'm actually revolted by martini's now because of this place. The staff is very nice, but one time my boyfriend was hit on by a staff member when i went to the bathroom so i wasn't particularly pleased. The restaurant does have an intimate feel, perfect for a romantic dinner. Overall, i will come and come again for the sashimi platter! I absolutely LOVE this place. I moved to Texas from New York about a year ago and when I first moved here, I was so disappointed in the lack of quality sushi restaurants in the area. I am very picky when it comes to sushi and I like to consider myself quite knowledgeable when it comes to sushi since I did work at a Japanese restaurant for over 5 years. I believe the hostess is the owner's wife and she is so sweet and friendly. She always greets me by my first name and asks me how I have been doing. (I've become a bit of a regular there). The servers are all extremely friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu, and their daily specials; at least all the times I've been there. And that's quite refreshing to have a server at a sushi restaurant actually know what I'm talking about if and when I use the actual Japanese terms for the nigiri. They are well educated on the menu. The sushi chefs are AMAZING at what they do. They are so incredibly artistic and take much pride in their skills. Everything I've ever ordered has come out looking like a piece of art work. Also, they will never serve you bad fish. I've sat at the sushi bar and seen Andy (owner/sushi chef) slice into a piece of fish, make a face and just toss it in the garbage. That's more than I can say for some sushi places I've gone to. The ambiance and interior decor is very nice and romantic. Great place for a date or to simply feed a sushi craving. I highly recommend this as one of the best sushi places in the area. Don't waste your time or risk going to some of the other places, once you come here, you'll be hooked. The prices are a bit high and they don't always let you know how much the daily specials cost however I think it's worth it. If they recommed anything to you, you can always simply ask the price and you will have no issues I have no problem paying the higher price for the great quality they serve. If you're looking for cheap sushi, go to your local grocery store. This place is classy, great, and I just can't think of a negative experience I've had there ever. I have yet to try their entree part of the menu. I've only had their sushi and some appetizers there however I will be sure to update once I've tried the actual cooked food of the place. Recommendations: live scallop, uni (the nigiri or sashimi, pass on the uni hand roll). If you're not that "raw sushi adventurous" try the angus roll, pan seared pork dumplings, or naruto. The ladies that sat next to us were served drinks and an appetizer before we were even acknowledged. I finally went to the host stand to ask for a server. It still took three minutes of being passed numerous times by every server in the restaurant to finally be acknowledged. She was nice and we finally had two types of sake and one spider roll for $38. Beautiful restaurant with a lively bar and delicious food. Snobby servers taking their time while picking and choosing tables makes the moderately high prices sting. No manager was visible at any time. We certainly were not apologized to for our 20 minute wait for drinks. Unless you like paying for over priced Americanized sushi (those specialty rolls), I wouldn't recommend Michiru. Their fish was decent quality, but it was nothing impressive or delicious. Some of their specialty rolls are good, but there are places with much better rolls that you can go to. If you do go, I'd suggest ordering the roll of the week to save some money. read more

The atmosphere and decoration of this place is classy and nice. Attentive waiters and waitresses. As for the sushi, they're not truly amazing in my book. If you've had fresh fish, you can easily taste that these are a bit on the over-due side. Not entirely fresh. It just tastes dead and "wilted." The Uni isn't exactly good quality as well, good coloring and creamy taste so it's like a Grade B at most. Real fresh Uni tastes slightly sweet, truly buttery taste and golden color (sometimes golden yellowish). THE. BEST. SUSHI! I cannot get enough of this place! My fiance and I have been coming here since they opened and are regulars! They have a fantastic lunch special M-F 11-3. You could order 3 basic rolls for $9 or 2 for $7 plus free soup!! (get the Hot and Sour.. trust me!) We walk away spending less than $20 (before tip) for a full 5 roll sushi meal. They also have your normal asian food selections but I don't know the prices b/c the sushi is just so great. With my new job I am unable to get the lunch special anymore... but I am able to splurge on the more expensive signature rolls!! In.credible. The Red Dragon roll, Cuban 8, and Fire Island are our favorites. We've also had the Spicy Twin Salmon, Toro Crunch, Texas, and a couple others that I can't remember the names of (King fish roll? not on menu). Don't forget to ask if they have any rolls not listed on the menu- they sometimes get specialty fish in. The service is great! Sometimes the new guys will show how green they are, but don't hold that against them... To play it safe, request Jason or Johnny. They are the best. Hands down. I had my fiance's birthday party there and requested Jason. Tell him Jake sent you. =] Another awesome feature I started using for our Saturday dates is their reservation system: It was 6 on a Saturday night and we had just decided we wanted to get sushi at 7:30. LOOK MICHIRU, I'M TRYING HERE. I'M REALLY TRYING TO LIKE YOU. YOU ARE'NT MAKING IT EASY THOUGH. WHY YOU GOTTA BE LIKE THAT? I so wish I could do half stars because honestly the 3 I'm giving is probably a little too nice. My reviews are generally positive and full of love, and I do believe there are some good things here otherwise I wouldn't take the time to review it. But this has to be the most frustrating place in the area for me to write about because it's inconsistency made manifest. Every time I go here it's a roll of the dice, and I'm a man who HATES GAMBLING. The first time I went the food did not remotely agree with me. All I had was an order of fried rice and a few bites of Sushi that I picked off my companions plates. The rice was greasy and had a funny taste to it and the Sushi I have to admit tasted pretty good. I left very confused but optimistic that further attendance would be better. About 30 minutes later..... well you can fill in the rest. You'd think I surely wouldn't go back and that would be it right? That is not the case. Had that Sushi not impressed me I wouldn't have, but it was pretty damn good. So I went back and ordered just Sushi, and it was great, not like top 5 great but good for the price. The kind of Sushi that dominates the menu here is that newschool showy, fusioney, drizzly affair. While it succeeds in originality and is a testament to the skill of a good chef, it strays away from the kind of contemplative experience traditional Sushi engenders. There is just such an excess of flavors and textures in these rolls, it's really cacophonous and hard to get that zen like moment where flavor and texture intermingle and an act becomes more of an "experience". Come the third time back I decided to branch out again and try something not Sushi. Perhaps my first experience was just bad luck. I ordered a yellow curry that struggled to keep it's head above bland waters. I left disappointed and with jacked up guts 40 minutes later. I'VE GONE BACK SEVERAL MORE TIMES. Not on my own accord but as a companion. And yes each time has been a crapshoot. And my food was paid for, and its really hard to hate on free food, but alas even that could not save it. It's really difficult for me to recommend this place. I would say go for the Sushi, because it's probably the thing they do most well consistently. But even then I think there are better places in the area. Both for the traditional and the newschool styles. And it's a shame too because it's quite a lovely place. It's got a very comfortable and inviting vibe, the wait staff is pretty ok, and the food doesn't take forever, but it doesnt come out suspiciously fast either. I wouldn't have any gripes with the pricing (which is reasonable) but I don't go out to play "food roulette". With such finicky quality it makes the place seem more overpriced than it really is. Hell I feel hard pressed recommending their lunch specials, which anywhere else would be absolute steals. I think there is potential here. On it's best days it out does places like Masa (the 646 one which I think is overrated tripe) easily. Hell it gives Sushi Coast (which I would say is it's chief rival) a real run for it's money too. Sushi Coast's rolls tend to be on the messy side and wait times there are not as good as Michiru's. But, you guessed it, Sushi Coast is FAR MORE CONSISTENT. It's been a while (about 6 months or so) since I've been back. And for all I know the place has improved and totally worth it. I just don't feel confident enough to venture back and I'm not sure I ever will. So I guess that speaks for itself... read more

My family really loves the tuna dumplings as well. Last time a came they a crispy rice tuna appetizer that I absolutely LOVED. I really hope they bring that back soon. I am really surprised by the number of stars many people rated. I have to be honest the sushi was okay but considering the price I can think of at least 5 other sushi restaurants in Sugarland alone that are more reasonable priced and have better quality sushi. Here is the breakdown of what we ordered: Appetizers: Crab Wontons, Rocky Shrimp Tempura: Likes: the real crab in the wontons Dislikes: shrimp was really overdressed in sauce, we didn't even finish, crab meat could have used more seasoning and cream cheese Rolls: Spicy Girl, Cuban Eight: Like: flavor combinations Dislikes: salmon on Spicy Girl was almost minced instead of just a normal filet on top, I thoroughly dislike the use of seaweed paper I always prefer soy mostly because seaweed paper tastes horrible and is too chewy for the other components of this type of roll. Last and most important....the price. The rolls considering the size and quality are WAY OVERPRICED. When I go out to sushi I expect to pay good money, but I also expect to have really really good sushi. Why this place doesn't get more love is beyond me. There's great service, with waiters coming by every few minutes or so to check up on you. The atmosphere is chic and blends casual dining with subdued intimacy. There's a great selection of sushi and other dishes (at least for this part of town), and an extensive collection of wine and cocktails. I arrived here on a late Monday night and was glad to see they were still opened. I was seated right away and had my orders taken promptly. I got an order of the hot and sour soup, edamame and chicken red curry with brown rice. The hot and sour soup was delicious, and I was delighted to find that it was more spicy than I'm used to, giving it even more flavor. The edamame was pretty standard, basically just to tide you over before the entree gets there. The red curry sauce was extremely creamy, and had a hint of sweetness that kept it light. The generous pieces of chicken were tender and juicy, mixed in with some onions and mushroom. However, the standout of the night was actually the brown rice. I'm not really sure how to describe it, but it was cooked perfectly to go with curry. It was steamed with just enough water that allowed it to soak up any of the curry, yet was firm enough to give it a consistent texture. Anyways, everything including a drink came out to be ~$20. The friendly owner of the restaurant even gave me a discount because they were setting some tables up, causing slight commotion. I usually like to try new places when I'm traveling, but given the poor selection of restaurants around me, I might find myself here more often than not. read more

You name it we ordered it.. Overall the food was pretty good. They had some unique combinations. Service was great and it had a nice cozy atmosphere. I for the longest have been a HUGE fan of Masa Sushi, Dickinson. But when one of my friends brought me to Michiru, my experience was great! The flavors were just so inventive! I don't understand why this place has 4 stars on yelp. The sushi was not very fresh. I had about 10 different types of nigiri, and none of them were of the quality of kata robata. While the prices look good on the menu, it is not actually a good deal because they are the tiniest pieces of sushi I've ever had. (The rolls might be different). They are literally 1/3 the size of kata's nigiri. Yes, kata sushi is huge, but these are too small. I do not recommend this place for sushi/sashimi. read more

We love coming here for date night! Cindy is the best server hands down! Everything she recommended we got and we ate it all! Beef sliced thin appetizer with onions was amazing for an appetizer. Pork fried dumplings as an appetizer is our go to always. The titan roll was soooo good! Not too spicy. Full of flavor. Beef Sechezuan is my finance's favorite. He gets it the least spicy and it still has a tiny kick of heat but the sauce is so good. The last visit we sat at the sushi bar. One good thing was it had a good amount of tofu but it did not make up for the taste of the broth I also had the sashimi lunch with a spicy runs roll and an eel hand roll. Michiru is way too expensive for what it offers. The atmosphere is sophisticated and the portions are normal size, but it's so overpriced... $3 for one piece of sushi and $17 for a bento box? You don't even get the standard soup and salad with it -- you have to pay extra! Nice interior and atmosphere, but the servers are slow. Our dishes came out in 10 minute intervals, and we had ordered: salad, fried rice, 3 pieces of sushi, and 2 rolls. We waited 40 minutes for our whole meal to arrive -- and this does not include the time spent waiting on the server to notice we were ready to order.
