Michigan Vision Institute is an easy location on Hill Rd. Redwood Lodge is very near the Institute - (5300 Gateway Centre). Upon entering the large, spacious building, the two receptionists are very friendly, helpful, and make the client feel more comfortable. Each of the eye surgeons have Surgical Coordinators: One outstanding coordinator is Te'Mekka, who is the Surgical Coordinator, for Dr. Aleksey I. Mishulin, M.D. Ophthalmologist., better known as simply, 'Alex.' She is extremely friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and has also had eye surgeries and can indeed empathize with all clients visits for specific procedures. Dr. Alex is a warm, compassionate, fully empathic/sensitive doctor, who fully understands his patients and can calm a worry or problem which may arise during the first interview after the series of several eye tests with the latest state-of-the-art equipment. He asks several times if their should be any questions of the patient to make sure that the patient may fully understand the eye procedure involved. The Flint/Grand Blanc area should be fortunate to have Michigan Vision Institute in this area with such excellent professional and staff and eye surgeons. Follow up is excellent as well. read more

They need to extremely improve communication with patients, extremely improve billing or get a whole new medical billing company, stop in office fighting and clicks, stop being rude and short with patients, basically get your ACT together from check in to surgery and everything in between and after. read more

My review is not for the doctors abilities. All MEI docs are amazing. The practice however, has been bought by a corporation (Mid West Vision Partners). The changes are definitely NOT for the better. I recently had surgery and received a bill which I previously paid. I called the billing department, which is now a south African company so very difficulf to understand. I explained the problem that I was getting a bill for my deductible which I paid on the date of service. They insist that the bill is correct and if I disagree, I need to call my insurance company and have them call to straighten this out. I feel bad for the patients who do not understand billing: codes, deductibles, co insurance, etc. Most people feel they trust their doctors office and will pay. However, MEI doctors no longer have any control and MID WEST VISION partners are NOT concerned about their patients! read more

This is definitely not the place to go if you like your vision or don't want bad or wrong Information. The employees are very rude and discriminate. They start you out thinking you have found the best place to do business. WRONG!! Run as fast as you can before it go's bad for you. Read the reviews. No one has had a good experience working under their management that can't seem to stick around long. I'm in the process of getting every Heath Insurance plan out there to look into their billing practices. They bill you constantly until they threaten to put you in collection's along with stop seeing you unless it's an Emergency where they have you at their mercy!! Do not ever pay a bill directly to them until you have saw the proof where they have billed your Insurance first. They billed us over $350.00 for 11 months and 3 weeks before they Finley sent the bill to BCBS They get more money high jacking you than the Insurance company's. Really disappointed in the offices Billing and Admin. Not only does it take 1 month to get in...but I had surgery scheduled. After 2 hours of tests and discussions the month before; I thought I was all set with a payment plan. Nope. 2 days before the surgery I get a call asking for a credit card for the full amount upfront. Needless to say I am uninsured and do not have thousands of dollars lying around. At that time it was too late to apply for anything to meet the appointment. Due to their last minute lack of follow through I will be going elsewhere. Cutting edge or not, their administrative staff definitely needs som training. read more

This place was absolutely asinine. We got here at 9 am. For a 9:15 appointment. There are at least 30+ people waiting at a time all cramped in. I happen to be heavy set and disabled and the only chair offered squeezes me so tight that my hips are bruised. After 2 and a half hours of squeezing my hips in a too small chair management brought me out 1 with no arms (deeply thank you) I sat for 2 pain free minutes only to be finally called to the room where there was no seating for a big person again. I understand that you have to wait to see a specialist but why can't they make it comfortable for heavy people too? I shouldn't have to embarrass myself by asking for a chair with no arms. On the positive note once they understood how uncomfortable I was they did try to help. The whole appointment took 4 hours! We had to go back 2 weeks later they had 1 double chair for about 30 people...but I guess they are trying. read more

Terrible quality and high price. Bad lab with inferior lenses. They act like they're top notch and they are rinky dink. They waste your time, gas and money going back for re-makes. Find another optical. And don't even get me started on their management practices. read more

Excellent quality service! I've been here for eye appointments four times now to clear up a very bad eye infection after I was referred to them by my primary care physician's office. My regular optometrist (who is also quite good) was not capable of either getting me in last minute, nor was he equipped to treat the infection. The doctor that I saw (Dr. Mullinex) was excellent and got to the bottom of the problem immediately. It was serious and required treatment that nearly led to surgery, but it was eradicated very quickly. I'm so happy they were able to squeeze me in last minute. Not for nothing, MEI is expensive and my insurance co-pays per visit were still $30 apiece, but they definitely are worth every penny. I would recommend them to anyone. read more

this is the second time this has happened. First time, I waited 25 minutes before they got to me, this time, 12/7/2020 I waited 20 minutes from 1 PM til 1:20 and then went to the clerk, told her to cancel my appointment and went to leave. As I got to the door, went back to clerk and told her to cancel my 12/14/2020 appointment also. That appointment was to evaluate the results of the appointment I did not have today. The business model here seems to be...hold your horses, people, my time, the MEI, is more valuable than yours. I go to my primary doctor and they have a sign that says - "if we don't get to you in 15 minutes, please come to the clerk". While I feel that the Diskens are excellent doctors, I have things to do and places to go and do not appreciate the disrespect exhibited to me by the usurping of my time. I was there at 1 PM. I kept my end of the appointment. If I can not reach some type of understanding of my feelings of this matter, I will take my business elsewhere. read more

At first I was impressed with the eye exam. Lots of techie equipment. Then they put you in a room where you wait a long time for the doctor which felt like a joke. Young girl walks in, does like two things and then walks you to sales. They never called me letting me know my glasses were in. When I got my glasses a month later, they hurt my eyes more than help. The prescription feels way off. I'm done working with Michigan Eye Institute. Eye businesses are a dime a dozen. Good Eye Business, getting harder to find. read more

I've been wearing glasses for over 15 years, my glasses broke and I immediately made an appointment for my yearly check up so that I could get a new pair as quick as possible. I went for my appointment and since I had a long drive after leaving, I asked to not have my eyes dilated and I was told it was required, which no eye doctor has ever forced me into doing. After they are dilated, the doctor tries to calculate my eye glass prescription, but can't, because I can't see any of the letters due to the drops. I had to schedule another appointment to come back for the prescription, I arrived 7 minutes late, due to traffic. After I arrive, I wait at the front desk for about 15 minutes until anyone comes over to me, and by that time I'm told I have to reschedule because I'm too late for my appointment. It's been 3 weeks now, and i still have no glasses to wear. Can't wait to get this appointment over with and never come back. read more

Had cataract surgery on both eyes and was very pleased with the care I received and the results of the surgery. I was not pleased with the amount it cost me over the quote I was given for the surgery. Almost $5400 out of pocket after my BC insurance paid their share. Make them do a predetermination before you settle on them for the surgery. My dentist can tell me exactly how much something will cost me before I agree to a crown etc. and MEI should be able to do the same thing for their patients. read more

Went there for the 1st time. Horrible experience. I have only been wearing eye glasses for 6 months. I was totally confused by the girl that was fitting me for glasses. She seemed to be more concerned getting me out in a hurry as it was at the end of the day. I told her i was not understanding her questions concerning ordering 2 pairs of eye glasses. One pair was for the computer and one for everyday use. I thought it was just me, but my daughter told me no, that girl was very rude to you. She was yelling at me and i was to the point that i was about to get up and walk out. In the end i did end up ordering the glasses and got the hell out of there. Oh yes, i forgot to add, that on my way home the girl called me on my cell and said that she accidently only charged me $1 for the second pair of glasses. Then she put me on hold and came back to say "oh i did charge you right". Guess she was in such a hurry to get me out of there so she could go on her vacation and couldn't focus on good customer service and do her job right! read more
