An updated review on what is now my favorite neighborhood French bakery, Michelina! Everything I have gotten here is freshly-made as they are baking on premise. I am far from being a croissant connoisseur, but their croissant has set the bar for me being light. crispy, flaky on the outside and buttery velvety light layers in the inside. Their specialty croissants have the same quality but care is taken with the extra ingredients. I also love Kouign-amanns here as they are hard to find. I often buy bread here and you can ask them to slice it for you before going home with it. They are not only bakers but they are also artists! Their desserts and breads are gorgeous works of art! Michelina is a place where my friends and I get a few of their desserts, grab a table near by and catch up with each other. The service here is very friendly and I come here often enough that they recognize me or know if I haven't been coming around- which makes me want to come back! This bakery is more like a bakery bar with high top chairs having you sit in front of glass with all their baked goods behind it. Everything is made in house and fresh daily - Not every bakery in th farmers market does this. You could walk up and sit down and order, or there's a register somewhere in the middle of all of the seats you could order from. Aside from the usual baked goods you can also buy breakfast items such as eggs bendicts, toasts and omlettes; for lunch try their many varities of sandwiches. I got their matcha and apricot drink - It came in a plastic can which was neat, but not for $8 and for a taste that was just medicore at best. Their orange juice is squeezed daily from real oranges (the machine is visible from the front) and is $6.50 with tax. I had some business nearby and wanted a quick lunch, so I stopped in here. I've been there a few times, but I've always just bought croissants and other Danish pastries to take home. This was my first time eating at the counter. I ordered a chocolate croissant and a café latte. The croissant was delicious, the latte was not strong but tasty. The cup for latte was cute and I loved it. It was convenient to have an eat-in space so I could gulp something without spending too much time. This used to be favorite almond croissant. Hadn't had it in about a year so I went and that was about 3 days old. It was as so hard and chewy I could barely even bite it apart it was unforgivable. They're clearly not making their stuff fresh anymore despite the looks of it or they completely cut corners and changed the recipe and are using terrible ingredients now because idk what I ate (or shall I say didn't eat) but it was absolutely NOT what I used to get. Also, last time I ordered a sandwich from there to go (a year ago which is why I stopped going) they didn't put the basil on it and the sandwich had 3 ingredient basil being the main flavor profile. I visited Michelina at The Grove farmers market and had a really nice experience. The bakery is clean, and everything looks fresh and well made. I tried the pistachio éclair and it was absolutely delicious--very creamy. You can really taste the quality. Service was friendly and the atmosphere at the market makes it even more enjoyable. Went to to the pop-up store at the Americana in Glendale, CA. Food- ordered three croissants- almond, chocolate and banana/ Nutella. Unfortunately, the almond, and chocolate croissant were dry. The Banana and Nutella was acceptable, Also ordered a Golden Drip, which was made in a can which is definitely an interesting concept but something I won't order again. Service was good - It's a pop up so they don't make the pastry onsite, which contributes to the dryness and lack of freshness. Anbiance is good. read more

This is a really cute food stall within the farmer's market at The Grove. The Great: The orange juice is truly out of this world and is definitely freshly squeezed. This review specifically targets their most scrumptious cheese danish you can find in LA. I think you are getting the freshest cheese in this danish you can in any danish. I want to emphasize that the freshness of the cheese is what really sets them apart. The crispy flaky pastry is baked simply to perfection. Now, they have other notably delicious bakery items, but this is by far one their best I've tried. I come back at least once every few weeks on Sundays to get their cheese danish. If you come early (10am) and park in the farmer's market, they validate parking and you don't have to pay for 3 hours. So, after I get my parking validated when purchasing my danish I may wander off to get my shopping done before returning to the farmer's market. read more

They tried to gasslight me and accuse me of changing my order that I prepaid for including a tip.They took it back and made me wait 30 minutes only to recieve cold food and eggs runny. I am usually not a big eggs Benedict person, but everything changes on a crispy croissant. I come here just for the Benedict. I've never actually tried the other protein options, but they are probably excellent too! The spinach eggs Benedict is one of my favorite meals in this city. It's pretty big, too. Half is enough for me. The pastries here are SOLID. Croissants are incredible, and I love the kouign amann. They use French butter and they'll give you some on the side if you ask! Tried the peach burrata tartine and it was underwhelming. Probably stick with the pastries or pastry-based dishes like the eggs Benedict. Overall, I love this casual spot for the pastries and of course the incredible eggs Benedict. There is still a lot I have yet to try, but when you find true love you gotta stick with it. Service was okay for morning time. Looks like they were busy preparing take out order to serve those waiting for seating. Either way I gave them grace as they were busy and trying hard! Got just the a butter croissant warmed up to go the croissant looks big but do not be fooled. It is actually a lot more air in it. The texture is more tough and chewy inside. It is very flaky so watch for falling crumbs all over your neck and lips if you bite into it! I just peeled it layer by layer to savor all of it. Perhaps it's the type of butter used but overall it is a bit pricey for a croissant. Did not try the coffee after reading reviews, as there are more legit coffee places here around the "...corner" if you know what I mean. read more

After our lunch, we wanted a small dessert to wrap up the palette. We stopped by Michelina and were attracted by the Parisian vibe. We sat down and ordered the hazelnut cake and two macaroons. Ayo!!! It's been awhile since i've been to Michelina and I've been craving a crusty baguette with butter. Ok so 5/5 for their Baguettes! Crispy outer texture and chewy soft inside mixed with that amazing french butter with salt is just AMAZING! Now the everything bagel was mid 3/5. It was very mid and prolly won't order it again. I always see this spot when visiting the Farmer's Market and finally decided to stop by. I ordered a Hazelnut praline croissant and Iced vanilla latte for about $13. The latte sucked. It wasn't sweet or had much vanilla flavor and there was way too much milk over coffee ratio. The croissant however was very good. So many layers and the interior was soft and firm. It was slightly dry and crunchy because of the lack of or type of butter used. But the hazelenut filling was really tasty. Another thing I'd like to point out is the customer service. There were two people working the front along with another co-worker who had just gotten off her shift and standing on the outside counter. I don't have a problem with them chatting because it was rather slow, but when customers would come, both the guy and the girl with curly hair were extremely rude and gave people attitudes. The things and way they were talking were so utterly disrespectful and nasty, especially considering a customer (me) was sitting right next to them. I'm not sensitive to language and dirty talk, but I don't want to hear it when I'm just trying to relax with my croissant on a Friday afternoon. When I went to pay, the girl with curly hair was left at the cashier and I asked a simple question about the baguette sandwiches since the menu didn't say a size, I asked what size the sandwiches are. The good: I tried two eclairs (vanilla and raspberry, a hazelnut pecan croissant and the Kouign-Amann. The last two were SO BUTTERY and FLAKEY. They were top tier and very high quality. The caramelized crunch bottom on the Kouign-Amann was texturally great. I haven't seen this pastry outside of NYC. I didn't think it'd be as good as NYC's but it was really great. We got served immediately. The bad: I would've liked if the eclairs had fresh custard inside rather than a thicker/hardened ganache-type interior. Sitting at the bar also involves blocking the view from the glass pastry display case so customers might be hovering over your shoulder if you choose to eat at the bar like we did.
