One year later, my second experience: It was time for the recommended annual service on my MZB sports car, when the check engine light also came on. The code indicated it probably needed a new thermostat. I spoke with the service manager, who told me to have my car towed to the shop and they would look at it the same day. The car arrived at the shop that morning and by the end of the day, the part had been ordered, the annual service completed, and the new thermostat installed. My car was ready for pick-up the same day. Really glad I found these people. They do great work and provide exceptional customer service. It's so easy to do business with them. read more

Drove by and told then what problem we were having with our Mercedes and they told us to bring it back that day if possible. We were running around doing so errands but they waited for us to bring it in a little late! They wanted to make sure the car was cool when they checked it in the morning! We have been going to Michael Brothers for the last two years and every time we go, we are super happy with the company's service. This is a family run business and Michael is always very honest with prices and whether or not you need to fix the part. We have an older Audi 2008 and it has ran perfectly, except for a few mechanical problems due to wear and tear. When we took it to the Audi dealership, they wanted to charge us 1,500 dollars to fix the gas line that connects to the smog. I am not much of a car person, so it is nice that Michael explains it to me and he is so honest. He only charged me $800 to fix it so I could get the car smog checked. I recently took it in, because it was leaking oil and Michael fixed it quickly. I was worried I would need to get a new car, but Michael was really cool and told me if needed, he would let me know when it is time. Honesty is so important when it comes to cars, especially when you are not well versed in that area. I really appreciate this from Michael Brothers. If you own a German or import car, I highly recommend you check with Michael for car services. read more

It's really valuable to find an auto service shop that does great work and is completely trustworthy. Tony and his crew at Michel Brothers are that shop. For almost a decade now, they have been my girlfriend's and my only mechanics. They may seem to be a little more expensive than franchise repairs shops, but their work is worth a few extra bucks. And here's the thing: Tony is very fair in his pricing, which means his work often costs LESS than other shops would charge. What's more, a cheap repair job that's done poorly is not inexpensive at all, in the end. Here's a great example: My car was due for a timing belt replacement, which is a very big job. It requires removing almost everything off the front of the engine. Knowing that, I figured it would be a good idea to replace the belts, radiator hoses, thermostat and even the alternator when I had the timing belt done. As I had hoped, Tony told me he'd give me a discount for doing all those things at the same time. He had to remove all those old parts anyway to get to the timing belt, so it was little extra work to put new parts back on. That makes sense to me. Other shops do not do this, which I find very surprising and very greedy. I did a little price shopping before having Tony do the timing belt job. Other shops quoted me a prices as if they were doing each job separately, which means their quotes were outrageously expensive. If all a mechanic does is replace a thermostat, I can understand charging $137 for just that one job, which was the quote from one shop. But since the hoses and housing to the thermostat have to be removed anyway to do a timing belt job, putting on a new thermostat adds about two minutes to the overall job. It's just plain price gouging to charge the full rate for each job, when a bunch of jobs requiring the same work are being done at the same time. What did Tony do? He charged me the labor for the timing belt job, and for everything else all he charged was the price of the parts. Yes, including the alternator. And his mechanics did a fantastic job on everything. Here's another example: My car's air conditioner quit working a couple years ago. I was out of state at the time, so I had another mechanic look at it, and he told me the compressor had locked up. I'd need a major repair job to get my AC working again. Believing this, I didn't even ask Tony to look at it, because I expected it would cost upward of $1,400 to fix, and I didn't have that kind of cash lying around. I just drove without AC for a couple years. When I finally could afford it, I set an appointment and left my car with Tony and his crew. A couple hours later, Tony called to tell me they'd put a new belt on the unit, and my AC was working fine! There was nothing wrong with the compressor; it was the belt tension wheel that was sticking. They applied lubrication to the sticking wheel, and I had cool air in my car again for less than a tenth of what I had expected to pay. A mechanic with this kind of honesty and quality work is a valuable find, indeed. I'm now moving to Texas because of some family issues. It's going to be difficult to find a repair shop with such good folks as I have found in Michel Brothers. I wish Tony and his crew all the best. --Jarvis Hooten read more

I'm a Reno native and I've taken my vehicles to many car shops throughout the Truckee Meadows. Without a doubt, Tony and the other mechanics at Michel Brother's have quoted me the fairest prices on a job and almost always have my car finished the same day I drop it off. While they specialize in European vehicles, I drive a 2004 Subaru WRX. The shop is extremely knowledgeable when it comes to Subaru's and I always feel comfortable with the prices and diligence of the repairs. Tony and the rest of the crew are honest and fair. With my Subaru being 11 years old now, minor repairs have become more frequent. Finding a mechanic that I wholeheartedly trust is an extremely valuable relationship and I won't take my car anywhere else. read more

I've been taking my car(s) here for years and am as happy as can be. Tony and the gang are honest, intelligent and are mindful that cars come with repair budgets (something that doesn't always happen). In the beginning I brought my European car here, but over the years I've found out that these guys can work on anything: Japanese, American, (British, Italian, Swedish...) In the end, I think the best testament to the quality of work and the shop's reputation has come from friends who I've referred to Michel Bros. This is the worst mechanic we've seen in over 20 years. After performing nearly $1,000 in work, they informed us that it was going to cost another $2,500 to fix the car so it wouldn't overheat (the reason we brought it in). When we picked it up the 2nd time (after fixing the vacuum leak)--we were assured the car was in perfect running condition. When it still wasn't, they decided to do more tests. It would have been great, if we'd been told ahead of time that the total cost would actually be $3,500. They don't work on Fridays because the owner wants to retire and enjoy life.
