While they didn't have what I needed for this weird shaped/sized poster he's got, she did have some great suggestions and also offered custom framing as an option. We soon got down to business for the party, and the gentleman by the registers walked us up and down the aisles to get exactly what we needed, and even gave cost-saving options for some stuff. When it was time to check out, he set up my daughter's account and made sure she was getting all the available discounts. Blick is a great store that knows their stuff inside out, and sincerely wants to help with your arts and crafts needs!

Yesterday, an older Asian man was in line. It was obvious that he did not understand what she was saying. She kept repeating, "Do you have a Michael's reward account?" He just kept looking at her; he didn't know what she meant. The more she asked, the more nasty her voice became. Later, when I needed help at the self checkout, she sighed and then came over to help me. I think they need to put someone up front who has more of a customer friendly attitude. If you want "the good stuff" like Tomoe River, Rhodia, Midori, Mnemosyne, Clairefontaine, etc. paper and notebooks you'll have to just buy it online because they don't carry it.

They have an eclectic variety of food trucks that look and smell mouthwatering. But they could use more seating, it's very limited compared to the amount of people eating the goodies. I love the adult beverages available to purchase through tickets. They have a ginormous variety of beer and mixed drinks, plus some of the money goes toward different charities and good causes. It's ten tickets for $20, but this year I noticed you may purchase individual tickets. I prefer this option! Tickets are $2 a piece, so most beers cost around $6 or three tickets. I got the Griffinclaw pumpkin beer. It was amazing! Very pumpkin forward with a nice spice aftertaste. Most of the mixed drinks are between three and four tickets, cheaper than most bars. I've even seen some for two tickets. The parking can be challenging. We were able to find a good spot and only paid $3.00. But I wonder if it gets more challenging in the evening hours. I bet this a fun time at night. This is a great event when paired with the Funky Ferndale fair. I look forward to next year.

I grew up loving stationery stores and want to support the few remaining ones like Paper Source. Unfortunately, the prices at Paper Source are very high, from greeting cards to gift wrap and gift bags. Also, you can't always get the service that you want right away. Earlier this month, I arrived to Paper Source soon after it opened at 10:00 and requested gift wrapping service. I bought a gift for a birthday party and wanted it nicely wrapped. There were two sales associates there and neither was able to offer gift wrapping services. I was told to return at around 3:30 and a sales associate on duty may be able to gift wrap for me. Also, they usually need 24 hours advance notice for gift wrapping. When I returned in the afternoon a little before 3:30, I was told that the person might be in at 4:00. I looked at the prices of the boxes and gift bags and decided that none of the waiting was worth it to have to likely spend $30+ dollars on a box, gift wrapping, and a gift bag. I went to Dollar Tree on Maple Road in Troy where there is a large assortment of gift bags. I bought a clear cellophane bag for $1.25 to put the gift in before placing it in a sparkly Happy Birthday gift bag for another $1.25. Total price was $2.50 and I didn't have to wait hours to have to spend ten times more at Paper Source. It's unfortunate because Paper Source can't afford to lose more customers to places like Dollar Tree or Party City, but it will continue to happen because of the high prices and lack of quick services. The quality difference of boxes and gift bags between a high end store like Paper Source and Dollar Tree is negligible. I also prefer Hallmark to Paper Source because I get a lot of coupons from Hallmark, including a monthly free greeting card signing up for Crown Rewards.
