This review is just based on the store itself. I haven't had any issues with employees or anything like that. I feel like Michaels has been going down hill for awhile lately and I base this on what I go in to purchase. Anything regarding fiber arts has severely been limited in this store and Michaels in general. There used to be so many rows of yarn and now its pretty much down to two and maybe a wall. Its never fully stock and color choices are really limited. I have been having to order elsewhere online or go to Joann's/Hobby Lobby. Even Walmart will have the color I am looking for when Michael's does not. Such a shame. Also the same regarding sewing and cross stitching. I know it can't be that people aren't doing it as much cause I feel that it is the exact opposite. My observations are also pre-covid too. It got worse when the pandemic hit, for sure what was already limited was made worse! I really hope Michaels gets back in the game and gives more options in this particular department. read more

No drama re public restrooms which isn't always the case currently bc of COVID. They don't stock Santa hats big enough for my head. Can't win em all. read more

I normally love this Michael's the workers are normally nice and very helpful but today I had place a pickup order and to my surprise it was marked completed so early! I I know it's Sunday and businesses open a little later but The store hours are 10-6 today but curbside was 9-5 showed which was weird because I thought the store wasn't open why would they bring me the order and they aren't open. Anyway I was already out running errands so I stopped there and legit waited until the 9am mark so I could say I was at curbside. When 9:01 hit it reloaded and asked if I was there and what spot. Not very long after a gentleman come out of the store, shoves the order at me and says "in the future we don't open until 10 it says it on the door" and starts to walk away from my car I then said "oh I'm sorry I never walked up to the door since it was curbside and both messages you guys send about my order says 9 you should fix it " "Like I said we open at 10" I truly hope this man has a better day because he is gonna push something at the wrong person and get a rude awaking. I work customer service and understand what it entails, being rude isn't in the job description and there's a better way to share information so that you hopefully don't get a negative response back from a client. Next time I will actually save the money and just order from Amazon instead of supporting in store businesses. read more

The customer service at this location is terrible. Twice in 1 month I have placed an order for curbside pickup. The first time i waited almost 40min for my order to come out. The second time i waited 35min and just went in. There is no one in the store and the clerk was standing there on her phone. I was livid!! I have a special needs child with panic disorder with me all the time and it is very difficult getting them out of their safety system to go into a store. Why offer curbside pickup if you're not going to bring orders out?? read more

Was checking out no registers open they want you to use self check out. They usually always have one open this time not a lady had a return that was before me. She told someone so the lady that was talking to two other associates came over to help her I stood there because I did not want to self check out. Someone else came behind me and said you can self check out. I needed a coupon. She handed me a coupon and told me to use self scan in the middle of the order, it froze I stood there with no help for about five minutes until I could flag someone down. They came help it to me and had to restart the. self scan I thought she was going to do it because I had literally just and all of my stuff she told me to do it and walked away the second time I'm scanning my stuff I was paying cash by this time lines were long cannot find anyone to help me finally someone walked up and was looking for something. I think she was a manager told her what happened. She said they don't take cash. I love to craft, draw, paint and over the years Michael's has always been my go to place. Stop and get a coffee and walk the aisles. It seems like it's going downhill more and more every time I go. A few weeks ago I stopped in and the shelves were all so empty. Left with nothing. That never happens lol. Today I went on for specifically things for a project and again so many shelves empty. An employee on the last visit said they were waiting on a shipment...but again nothing. I ventured over to the spray paint area today and rang the bell to get help and waited and waited some more. After quite a while I rang again...nothing. Right before I went to leave I saw an employee walking by and asked if someone worked on the department so I could get some paint. She kinda snotty said we work all over...um ok then open the stupid case lol. Anyways it's looking more and more like I'll end up at Hobby Lobby or Home Depot. Great location in the Surprise area! I'd love it if Michael's gave out more coupons because some of the crafts can get quite pricey. This location has a great selection of scrapbooking and beading products. They do not offer fabrics, except for ribbon. If you are looking for basics, this location has what you might need. I went into the store to have a piece of plexi glass cut and the male manager did cut it for me even though there was no one in the framing dept but explained I needed to order the next 2 pieces I needed in advance so they could have more time. I called today to have them cut the plexi glass so I could pick it up tomorrow. Now I am being told I MUST come into the store to place the order they will not do it over the phone and I have to pay for it before they will place the order but they will not take my payment info over the phone. So now I have to make 2 trips into the store for a simple order. I explained to the female manager I work and its hard to get there before they close. She was NO HELP. Now I have to figure out a way to get there 2 days in a row. I explained this was for a volunteer project for Veterans and she did not care at all. I wont be back in this store ever. read more

This is my go-to place for picture frames & scrap book supplies! It has a great variety of both. They always have great sales,keep an eye out for those. I went to Michael's to have a custom framing order done. Nothing too fancy, just a magazine article with 3 cut-outs to be framed. Met with the framing team, they put together a mock-up which looked decent, paid my $185 and was told 2 weeks and it will be ready. I told them I needed it by a certain date and was told no problem (a few days after the 2 weeks). Flash forward 2 weeks, no call. I wait a few extra days and call the store. Framing department wasn't available at that time so I left my info and was promised a call back. Again, no call. I call again, get a hold of someone and I'm told they needed to re-order the matte and that it would be a few more days. I asked why I wasn't notified and they said that the manager should have called me. They hadn't. Was told that I would get a call again when ready in 1-2 days. Reminded them that I needed it ASAP at this point. Flash forward 2 days, still no call. I called them again and was told it was ready. At this point I had missed the deadline of when I needed it done. I picked it up from the store, it looked decent and as I had specified, but was still late and never received any type of calls or apologies. read more

Now, it seems overpriced for some things and the customer service is waning. I bought a piece of matting for $15! I sure hope there'e some gold weaved in the board somewhere.... Would be a great store, but really needs some employees, training & some serious stocking/pricing/display help! Not really a lack of anything merchandise-wise, which is good for a one-stop shop! But a bit disappointed they don't sell engraving products. You'd think a craft store would have that covered! Even Lowes & Home Depot have a section catering to crafting on an artistic/decorative scale, so its frustrating you won't find certain things (like Dremel related products) here. Coming to employees- good luck finding one! Non-existent through the entire store. So you can't ask questions or for help finding anything specifics. Meaning when some areas are cluttered or unorganized (several areas were as described) you are on your own or just give up. At least the isles are labeled. But it doesn't help much when you locate an item, but no price tag is to be found! Every isle. Consistent 75% of the stock had price labels below. The rest were missing altogether. So, after locating items that had an actual price displayed, I was frustrated to get to the register & the item ring up as a MUCH higher amount- because the product is poorly stocked & price labels are missing, incorrect or under the wrong item. Getting to the fun part why this ends up being the biggest headache out of the shopping experience & why this triggered my review.... hang in here w/ me! Let's hop back to customer service & staff. First, we know you can't find any around the store, so we are SURE they are probably busy at the register helping customers, right? No. Get up to the LINE (approx. 7-8 ppl w/ separate transactions deep) & see ONE employee at the 4+ station checkout counter! Just ONE! 20 minutes pass. Line grows. I felt horrible for the mother who had to exit the line so her child could use the toilet. She opted out altogether & left the store. At the register, encountered the 1st problem previously described in pricing. Suddenly I see another employee appear to do an exchange run! Where was this person to begin with?! The one handling my transaction scanned some discount coupons & offered me a savings program which was great & very quick/easy for him to gather 3 bits of info to set me up! I did appreciate that bit. But that small bit of glory faded when I turned around to see another employee WATCHING the increasing line nonchalantly mopping or wandering the isles that were once extinct of customer service until everyone was in the checkout line (ironic???) Already having a mediocre visit, I get the frustration that led to the final blow as I get to my car. An item fell from my bag. The ONE item swapped out over the price discrepancy. The employee who swapped it got the wrong type. You'd figure an exchange would be quick being the same price but different specs. No. Because that line did not dwindle. Another employee managed to take note of the help needed, so 2 at the front was a false promise. 1 was dealing with one of "those" customers who had a "return" w/ every classic pain-in-the-a** story behind why they were trying to get more for less in non-legit ways that make every person behind you in line cringe while plotting your karma in their heads. The 2nd employee was painfully slow. I noticed the transaction was lengthy due to talking into their earpiece asking questions to the manager obviously on-site but in the back office. (I worked retail, know how this works!) So, instead of the manager coming OUT to expedite this & HELP, the back & forth walkie-talkie conversation continues as we all wait. FINALLY back at the register- I am left wondering how I gained $.03 on swapping an item of the SAME price? I think the employee was unfamiliar w/ the process & tax was credited back to me by mistake. So, sorry for Michale's but I after ALL that (extra hour due to multiple issues) I'm left not impressed, also assuming the lack of atmosphere & customer service is due to poor management & insignificant employee "training" probably stemming from profit losses due to the waterfall effect starting at the top. I'd suggest some improvement in the areas touched on before customers go elsewhere for a better experience. read more

This is a two-part review, one specifically for the custom framing department and one for the store as a whole. The Store: -cleanliness: relatively OK. Gets very messy particularly around the Christmas season and you will have glitter on you for weeks. -staff: generally nowhere to be found. Limited registers open (usually 2). -prices: "OK"... they email out coupons all the time. Problem is, you usually can only use 1 per purchase. For example, if they email you a 20% off entire purchase and 10% off artist's sketch pads, you can't use both. The Custom Framing Department: -staff: I was helped by a gentleman who was very patient, worked with me for about an hour on framing and matting choices for two prints I wanted framed. He had a good eye. However, they generally only have one person back there and thus, everyone ends up waiting. A long time. -attention to detail: lacking. I had asked that the two prints be framed the same way (same mat, same frame, etc). When I was called two weeks later to pick up my order, they were in two different frames. I ended up having to wait an additional 5 days for the frame to be fixed. -pricing: extravagant. Even with the 40% discount coupon I had, my total for two prints (small, matted and framed) was approximately $180. -quality of product: I am very pleased with the final result of my custom framing. It looks clean and professional. -final note: I brought in the prints on cardboard backing between glass plates. There were important notes by the seller about the prints on the cardboard, and I wanted to keep them. I made a call to have them set aside for pickup with the prints. While they did save the cardboard for me, they kept (or threw away) the glass plates. Which makes me wonder, if someone brings something in a frame, do they keep that or throw it away too? In summary: will I be back to Michael's for my art needs? yes. Will I use their custom framing again? probably not, if I can get a nice frame and mat it myself for about 1/3 of the price... only if it is an odd-sized print needing framed. read more

This was one of eight or nine Michaels Stores we went to in the greater Phoenix area today. This was a little on the smaller side and less clean than most of the Michaels we go to. We were searching for a particular type of scrapbooking paper that my wife uses in her paper crafting. As with the other locations, we really didn't find any. They all seem to be out of stock of this particular paper. In addition, the paper section needed some straightening. There were lots of pages in the wrong spot, and the paper we were looking for had the slots filled with different colored papers. That may be why the stock ran out and was overlooked. read more
