Michael's is one of my favorite places. I love going to the different location just to see if it may a have a few new and different finds from other locations. The store was clean that's a ++. The employees super helpful and nice. The disappointeing thing is it seems like Michael's is trying to get rid of human contact and connection. The reason I say that is because it was like 4 or 5 kiosk and only 1 employee ringing up customers. And they are told to advise to yell out the kiosk is open. It gives off I don't want to help you but I want your money. Do better guys. But I still enjoy Michael's. read more

Customer service is DEAD at Michael's. At least, at this location. That used to be a thing, right? My expectations aren't super high. I don't need a red carpet. I don't need a massage. But what I do need is for an employee to know where their products are. That's not too much to ask... or so I thought as I stopped an associate to ask him where something was located. In return, I got a blank stare and an "I don't know." "Can you get someone who may?" "You can go up to the register." THIS is the expectation of service they impart on their employees? I came here recently to buy items for an arts and crafts project for work. They had a huge selection paint and acrylics along with brushes, paint dishes in a variety of sizes and also holiday decor. I was impressed at how they even had items less than the Dollar Tree such as the paint dishes. I had called prior to coming asking if they had specific items that I was looking for. A sales associate answered and was very friendly and helpful. In fact, she assured me that I could get her help once I arrived at the store. Excellent customer service from all the staff bc as I continued to browse I asked other sales associates for help and they were all able to help me. So- kudos to the hard-working staff at this store! There was just a couple of items that they did not have such as soil for planting, in which they had ceramic pots and other gardening projects. They also did not have large rocks for painting. I visited Michael's today for some Christmas shopping, and the experience was extremely disappointing. I noticed that many items are priced about $3 higher in-store compared to online, and while I understand that online promotions may differ, the store allows you to order in-stock items online for same-day pickup. I found the item I wanted and asked if the store could match the online price. I was told they could not due to company policy. I then asked if I could simply purchase the item on my phone and pick up the exact product I was already holding. They told me I had to do it that way--so I placed the order while standing at the register. After I paid, the system suddenly went down and the store claimed they could not locate my order, despite the fact that I had the confirmation email, my phone, and the receipts. The employees even watched me place the order in real time. The entire situation was frustrating and felt completely avoidable. This was honestly one of the most ridiculous shopping experiences I've ever had. I won't be returning, and I hope the company reconsiders these policies because this is a joke. read more

I love Michael's...but I will be avoiding this location from now on. We went in on 5/8 and the female cashier was so incredibly rude from the moment we walked up to pay. Several items rang up for more than what was posted and she all but called me a liar..literally huffed and puffed and slammed the items down on the counter while calling to get clarification. Of course I was correct, but she couldn't be bothered to communicate..just voided the items and rescanned. Threw the items in a bag and put the bag on the counter for me to take. Her attitude was HORRIBLE. Craft stores are my happy place and she ruined that visit. Some people don't belong in customer service.. read more

I go here for one or 2 things in sale because the deals are always good! LOCATION: I'm Arden near The Howe About Arden shopping center between the century theater, the container store and Starbucks. DECOR: A setup to sell. Typical warehouse shopping decor usually themed to the holidays. Shelves of supplies fill the space with a photo framing table area I'm the back and counters up front near the entrance. PRICE: I've come to learn that almost everything here at full price is way too expensive. Even the"half priced" frames are sometimes the full price of other brands with the same dimensions and not notably better. However, there are times when those items have a coupon or deal. Basically, get the app and use the coupons. They work. STAFF: Always helpful and friendly. Hard to find though. I spend more time looking for help than I do looking for what's on my list. I swear there needs to be some sort of service Bell or something. EXPERIENCE: Michael's is cool to stop by for a few on sale items here and there, but this place is really for middle income Crafters, not lower income artists. Not really for artists overall. There are always deals which makes me believe that nothing is a deal. I always enjoy a visit to a Michaels store whenever I get a chance. This place is a little further from where I live, but Joe and I happened to be in the neighborhood. I was specifically looking for something to store my old drawings and paintings that I had forgotten about and recently discovered in my closet. They didn't have exactly what I had envisioned in my head, but an employee suggested some artwork carrying cases that were wide enough to hold several paintings and still fit on the top shelf of a cabinet above all of my clothes. Unfortunately, they are very expensive! At least my artwork will get some protection from dust, heat and/or cold (being so close to the ceiling). I was also looking for a glass dome item to protect and display an unusual looking rock I had collected, and some miniature stands to display my egg shaped polished rocks. They didn't have anything there that worked for my needs. Anyway, I found this store to be pretty well organized and stocked. You'll find candle making, soap making, painting supplies, wood working, artificial flower arrangements, jewelry creations, candy & cake decorating, wedding stuff, crocheting & knitting, and lots of household & seasonal decorations. My boyfriend and I have made many trips to this Michael's in the last month. Hehehehe, it's in a very convenient spot since it's not too far from home for us. The store is HUGE; probably the biggest Michaels I've been to. They have so many aisles filled with so many Knick knacks, decorations, crafts, etc. we spend atleast 30-60mins in here every trip. They're always well stoked and organized. I have yet to walk in and feel overwhelmed with cautious. Most of the workers are friendly and helpful too. On occasion we'll ask for assistance and they are quick to help and suggest. I love this Michaels & can't wait to come during their after Christmas sale because they have SO much product! read more

I realized I've never reviewed this Michael's despite me going here so many times. This Michael's is in a great shopping area. There is a luxury movie theater, Home Goods, Starbucks, Nordstrom Rack, Cream, and lots of other goodies. Finding parking here is no issue! I often find parking right in front of the store. There's always coupons available with Michael's, who no one can hate a great deal. I've gotten so many great deals here before. This is an amazing craft store and my go to place for holiday decor. When it comes to holiday decor, stuff can sell out quickly so it's important to grab things at the start of the season. They offer free pick-up with most products, which is very convenient. I ordered some wrapping paper online which cost me no more than $6.00. I then received several emails notifying me that I had three days to pick up my item. I ended up not needing the item, so I didn't pick it up and assumed I would receive a credit to my original form of payment. On Nov. 3, I received an email saying, "Thank you for picking up your order." On the same day as receiving the email I called to speak to a store manager who admitted that she made a mistake and would process my refund. Today is Nov. 16 and I still haven't received my refund - a small amount - which is besides the point. The principle of the matter is the lack of action on behalf of the store manager to do what she said she'd do. So I called Michael's today and talked with a different store manager, James, who apologized and gave me two options: 1) go into the store to process my refund or 2) he'd call customer service for me to process the refund over the phone. I agreed that calling customer service to process the refund would save me a trip to the store and hence is the better option. I then received another email from Michael's indicating that I received a refund in the form a gift card instead of my original method of payment. I called to discuss the matter with the store manager, James (again), who then proceeded to tell me that customer service doesn't have access to "my information" and therefore a gift card is the only method of receiving a "refund." I'm upset because there should be a disclaimer notifying customers of this potential issue; and, furthermore, if you're putting money on a gift card instead refunding my original payment method, then the only one benefitting is the store because by default you get to KEEP my money and nothing is being rightfully returned to me for a product that I never picked up, which should be ILLEGAL. And, management should have told me in the beginning that if I chose option #2, that I would only receive a gift card! I told the store manager that I would let it slide because we're dealing with a small amount of money but had I paid more, I'd be completely LIVID!! I proceeded to tell the store manager that I will NEVER purchase from their store again. I think it's time to improve your store game, up your management hiring selection, up your training protocols, and improve your communication skills! We came in here to get a large old picture framed and were very happy with the result. Michael's is far more than a hobby store. With knick knacks and decor and speciality services like our framing job, we consider this a vast warehouse of inspiration. I have not had a lot of pictures professionally framed in my life so I wasn't sure what to expect. Their team took their time in walking us through the whole process, and what a process it is. From framing, to matting to aesthetics to acid free papers and the amount of reflection on the glass, I learned a whole lot. While we waited, we browsed and found so many other items of use to us. Getting a large picture framed is anything but cheap, but the great service and turnaround and the final result made it more than worth it. Thanks Michael, whoever you are! read more

Dropped by for some card stock packs that were Buy 1 Get 2 Free. What a deal! Of course I had to look around at what's new in the store and check out their great end of summer 70% clearance sale. It's a hit or miss depending on what you need/want but managed to find some deals on summer toys and kids' craft projects. It also helps if you sign up for their Michaels Rewards because they were offering an additional 15% off of sale items (non-xlearance and door busters). You get a variety of discount offers for regular priced and sale items on a weekly basis. I miss the 40% - 50% coupons off regular price items though. It makes shopping a lot more fun to know I got a really good deal on one item. As can be expected it was busy at check out but the service person was friendly and quick. So today me and my sister walked in to Michaels to find poster paper and possibly see if they had something to make a balloon arch for my baby shower. Immediately we were followed by a younger man who I believe definitely was loss prevention understand this it wasn't him doing his job that bothered me it was the very blatant following of me and my sister that made it distasteful. We hadn't touched anything in there just simple wanted to locate what we need to make a purchase and this young man literally walked behind us the entire time and also made it very apparent we were being followed. So I asked him do you work here and he instantly froze up and said no ma'am (okay cool no problem) I continued to walk down the aisle and talk to my sister with him still very much following behind us. So I pointed it out again and he proceeded to giggle as if something was funny about making us uncomfortable. I make my way to front and ask to speak to a manager and this younger woman and older male denied knowing him as employee and proceeded to fake assist us with finding what we needed. This same young man was on the aisle with us again and I told the older guy this is who I'm talking about which the supervisor never acknowledged him or even addressed the situation! Bottom line don't shop here if you are of color I really enjoyed the laughter as if we were crazy when we aren't but I'll never step foot in there again! Again no one is saying you can't do your job what I'm saying is if I hadn't touched anything or even caused a disruption of some sort it is not okay to treat potential customers that way! I have owned this Andreas Gursky print since I was young and it is my most precious and cherished possession. For over a decade I have tried to get a proper frame for it, but have been unable to afford it. It's a large piece and a few inches outside of a standard size so it had to be a custom order. After calling several local framing companies and receiving invoices that felt like a "go-away" price... I went to Michaels. Even though I was told how much I would be price gouged and ripped off, I was blown away by the service I received. I cannot rave enough about their rockstar manager Hannah. She was so incredibly knowledgeable, took my custom order and really broke it down, went through all the options, worked in my budget, and gave me such a professional product. I almost cried when I saw the work she did! This print holds so much sentimental value and thanks to Hannah and the Michaels framing team, it will FINALLY be preserved the way it deserves. I went to pickup an order today and it was super quick and efficient. When I got there there were two kids pounding on the doors being super rude and yelling at the workers inside to let them in. I wanted to tell them to knock it off because they were being extremely obnoxious but I decided it was best not to get involved. Unfortunately COVID-19 has brought out the worst in some, but the employee who came out to bring me my stuff deserves a raise! The reason I am writing is because the cashier that helped me at the end, was so incredibly kind and helpful. She was the only one working and was working hard through a short line. After she got my rewards number, she put in a coupon for one my items so it decreased my overall cost. This is not something she had to do by any means, being kind would have sufficed. I feel as though she went above and beyond. I'm an educator so money is often tight and I didn't mention that to her, however, she still helped me out. This review is specifically for the new store at Howe Bout Arden and relates to disability access and the store manager. I've been shopping at Michael's for most of my adult life. I love their products and spend way too much money there. When the store on El Camino closed, I was relieved to hear that they would just be moving. After three visits, I'm never going back to this store again. When I arrived, I was thrilled to see they had a disability cart. As a disabled man, carts like these make it easier for me to shop longer and to find everything I need. The challenge is that the Arden store is much smaller than any other Michaels I've ever been in. Their stock is far less diverse then the other stores and there simply is very little room. I've never attempted to drive a disability cart through the aisles of a normal sized Michaels, but I can assure you that it is quite challenging at this location. Because of the layout, other customers are forced to continually adjust to make space for me to be able to move through the store. After a while, customers get irritated and I don't blame them. However between facing regular negative reactions from other customers and having whole areas of the store that I cannot go into unless I get out of the cart - like the u-shaped display area in the front - it becomes a very unpleasant shopping experience. Even navigating the checkout line is challenging. So today I decided to talk to the manager about this. I was incredibly polite and simply mentioned that while I appreciate the cart, the aisles are very narrow and making turns so that I can get in and out of it aisle is very challenging. I recommended that he drive the cart around to see how the end caps impacted his ability to get around. Instead of listening to me, he immediately got defensive and told me that it was all up to OSHA standards. He also said he had no problem driving the cart around, implying it was just my fault. I've been disabled a very long time. I understand the challenges that it takes to make accommendations for disabled people. I'm never looking to blame a manager, but I like to let people know when there's a challenge or difficulty so that they are aware. This man COMPLETELY disregarded me and treated me with absolutely no respect. That is the last thing you want in a manager, especially when interacting with a customer who spends as much money at Michaels as I do. read more
