I, like many folks, have found myself looking for at home activities and DIY solutions all throughout this pandemic. I have been to Michaels more times this year (like...four times) than I have ever been to Michaels in my life previously. I am NOT crafty, but looking to add special touches to work and personal projects sometimes take PAINT and SUPPLIES. Enter: Michaels. This store has all of my nightmare fuel triggers. Ineffectual staff that makes the experience about 10x longer than it needs to be, a seemingly never ending line of patrons just wishing to no longer be exactly where they are, confusing signage and displays, bright/fluorescent/interrogation room ambiance that screams "GET OUT WHILE YOU STILL CAN", and cheap holiday trinkets that ruin the environment that no one could ever possibly actually need. I found what I needed after 8 minutes of walking down aisles with a confused look on my face. They have deals for teachers and veterans and other groups which is a plus, though judging from the signage it looks like they are adding crazy hoops for these groups to jump through just to claim their discount. I am hoping for sworn affidavits and testimony, but if you are concerned I understand. I can still use your help! If I win the class action, I WILL share that with all of you that help me win! I don't think I can add my email here, but I can figure that out later. What I need are affidavits from anyone that: 1. DID NOT get Open Enrollment Documents for 2021; via email or USPS 2. Anyone that DID NOT SEE a notice posted in the breakroom or website for Open Enrollment in 2021. (If you did not see a notice for any other year include that also, we can definitely use that info) 3. If you were confused about how to obtain your benefits, how to submit a claim, asked for plan documents and did not get them, or was told to submit an email to HR for answers, I want to hear all about it! Please write your stories up and send them to me. They owe you $110 per day that they don't provide documents you requested. I have every single notice via email and paper from the U.S. Postal Service from every year since 2018, but NOTHING from 2021. Why do I need this? Because our employer (I am still employed for now even though they threatened to fire me) did NOT NOTIFY ANYONE THAT OUR LIFE INSURANCE BENEFITS FOR PART TIMERS WERE BEING CANCELLED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PANDEMIC. If you were part time, and had a policy for life insurance or any of the Aetnas Fixed Indemnity plans (maybe dental and vision also) did you have an understanding that your plan would roll over automatically and you were not required to resubmit any documentation for continuation of that benefit? Me too. I now have stage 4 Breast Cancer and no life insurance. And Michaels is blaming Aetna. Aetna blames Michaels. They have a legal obligation under Erisa to notify Employees of Plan changes. They are saying they simply did not offer the life insurance plan in 2021, during open enrollment and that was enough. Then they said the put up a notice in the breakroom. They did not. Have you EVER SEEN AN OPEN ENROLLMENT NOTICE IN YOUR BREAKROOM? (Being facetious here... ONE THAT SAYS "HEY, WE ARE CANCELLING LIFE INSURANCE BENEFITS?" ) PLEASE SHARE ALL YOUR BENEFIT STORIES! ALSO if you had Aetnas Fixed Indemnity Plan, you know, the one where they deny all your claims for a diagnosis code and you get so sick of resubmitting the same documents you practically give up? Well I have SOLID PROOF THAT THEY DONT NEED THAT CODE AND THEY INTENTIONALLY CREATED OBSTACLES SO THEY WOULDNT HAVE TO PAY THE CLAIMS!!! Here is the deal. I am looking for class action participants. I got some signed photos from a famous celebrity that I wanted framed and they exceeded all of my expectations. We had the most thorough and thoughtful experience with Michael from the custom framing department. We had a simple job of getting a mat cut for a photo that was a particular size. Based on previous experience at another location we planned on having to order it and come back for it another time. It was a Christmas gift and a very busy time in the store and that department in particular. Michael offered to cut the mat immediately, then went on to fit it all into the frame, along with our picture, and put the proper closures on the back to ensure we had the right fit and end product. He then wrapped it and we were on our way. We thanked him and let him know we were grateful. He was gracious, very professional, and pleasant. He shared that entering our order into the system would have taken as long as completing the work immediately and he wanted to make it easy for us and then have one less job for him to have to complete later. Very thoughtful decision and efficient. We appreciated him very much. It was a day of errands and he helped make it go as smoothly as possible. Thanks Michael! read more

It's a smaller store but wow do they keep it clean and they make it so gosh darn easy for pickup orders. Really, this store is my favorite. Now not all the employees are crafty people, they are there to tell you where to find something. But at least one employee there will be crafty so if you are looking for ideas just ask who the craftiest employee is. Don't expect they know how to do every single idea in the world. Recently stopped in to pick up some photo boxes after I read in the paper they were on sale. This is a good size store, it caters to arts, crafts, holidays, gifts, picture framing (?) and I am sure other oddball stuff. It's easy in and out of the plaza, parking is plentiful. It's next to Bed, Bath & Beyond, and Trader Joe's so plenty of other stores to shop at while here. Prices are fair, if not low, service is what you expect in retail now a days. Huge, meandering Arts & Crafts store in Pittsford Plaza. How they keep track of inventory, I'll never know. Sadly a lot of the departments have products hung on peg hooks with mis-matched tags, so caveat emptor... you may be paying more for that X-Acto knife than you thought! Plus, the checkout lines can be dreadfully slow... Also... do NOT shop here without a coupon, which are multitudinous and varied. Check the local papers & clip 'em out before recycling. read more

If you like to craft this is your spot and even if you don't you can find lots of stuff here! If you need some decorations for your home or events it's a good place to look at things and if you get on the email list you will get all sorts of coupons to get major discounts off products. If you draw, knit, make jewelry, wreaths oh my.. they have pretty much what you need. Prices are fair and staff is usually pleasant and helpful. Sometimes you come in and it's slammed like during the holidays other times it's quite and you can get what you need and not wait in a crazy line. Parking is a plenty as it's in a shared mall area. I am very disappointed in Michael's at Pittsford Plaza. I was in there yesterday trying to find craft stuff for Chanukah. When asking a representative, she said that they have nothing, and indicated that they might be getting stuff in by December 1. Chanukah stats November 28, she blamed the supply chain, and indicated that they have no stuff for Christmas either. I took her over to many crafts that were there for Christmas, and she commented that's just the way it is. Sad read more

I never have any idea what I'm looking for when I walk in this place. I make lists for everything so it seems unusual... more like I don't enjoy wandering around a store aimlessly hoping to find something I need. It probably has to do with my lacking the crafty bone. Therefore, I'm in the store 3 times longer than normal because I have to walk up and down every aisle to ensure I didn't miss something. They have a huge selection of scrapbooking supplies. Not that I scrapbook, but sometimes I've used the paper and stickers for other purposes. Things I've picked up recently - mostly party planning related: - Decorative paper - Stickers - Decorative straws (tons of colors - packs of 18) - Dowels (several different widths) - Hot glue guns - Paper gift bags (plain, colored, glittery, etc.) - Plastic frames They also have a random selection of seasonal things. Right now, it's a lot of beach things like boogie boards, shovels and buckets, and wiffle ball. Always search for an online coupon they can scan one on your phone and one if you print it too. I have to admit that I am an A.C. Moore person but I don't want to always drive out the Greece so this Michaels is a great compromise. This is a large store that has a large selection of everything crafty thing you may need. The prices are reasonable and you can easily get a coupon online to get some items cheaper. I wish there was a little more staff around. I always seem to only find 3 staff in the entire store and they are always at the cash register. It makes it hard when you are in a store that large and you have no idea where anything is. I will come here when I need crafty things and don't want to hike out to A.C. Nothing original about Michael's in Pittsford. Except you have to go thru a maze to get out which snakes thru all of the cheap crap, then magazines and books. I found what I wanted, but nothing more. They have almost everything a blooming artist could want. You've got your paints, and your markers. Your wooden items, and your baking stuff? They've got storage bins and carts, and random things that only a true art geek would want. I recommend this place if you need a quick container of glue, or tape. My sister and i went in for some puffy paint and embroidery floss a few minutes ago and our cashier was completely rude and unprofessional to say the least. When we got our items and were ready to checkout, we waited for a couple minutes and a lady finally said that she could take us on register 2. I am not totally sure of the specific name but it started with a C. She then proceeded to yell "2 IS THE NEXT REGISTER". She didn't even greet us. My sister asked if she could pay a couple dollars in cash and a few on a card. The cashier then said "GO AHEAD" extremely aggressively to my sister and doesn't even giver her a chance to take her card out. she practically threw the bag at me and said nothing. For me as the customer, overall great experience here. I feel like they should pay their employees better. Also I heard that if an employee 'scans an item *wrong*' then they get written up. Also at the register, employees are supposed to ask for your email address every time you are there, even if they know you as a regular who shops there weekly. the poor workers get written up if they don't ask every customer, every time. I don't like some ways the employees are treated, but this store has a wonderful selection of items and for the most part. Every time I shop here, things are organized, the store has that wonderful 'crafty' smell to it, the items are not too expensive, and I can find pretty much every item I am looking for. If i need assistance, i have to usually go to an employee who is doing re-shops around the store, or i have to walk up to the cashier at the register located close to the doors at the front of the store. The workers have headsets so if they are asked a question that they don't know the answer to, they can quickly ask everyone else who works there with their headset and receive a timely answer for the customer. I will continue to shop here. I do miss this one employee who was always cheerful and a delight to be helped by, and always gave above and beyond wonderful customer service. I felt like a person instead of just one of a number of customers being pushed through the line. she had awesome magenta colored hair too! but she's not there anymore. Honestly I hate this store why would you ever go here when there are places like JoAnn's and Dan Craft's and Things. This store always succeeds in having everything I DON'T need. I feel like I'm in a warehouse of useless mediocre construction paper for kindergardeners. I don't why but this store makes me stressed I can't ever seem to find my way in this place. I am not a big box store shopper. I usually do my retail shopping on line. I commissioned an oil painting,and had enlarged some photo's from Cuba and wanted to have them framed.I was reluctant to try that on line,so I stopped into Michael's reluctantly. I was given directions to the frame department where I met Michael. I showed him the oil painting and he immediately went to work.He measured it,made recommendations on how to frame it , helped me pick frame selections, and assisted me to make a decision within my budget. He did the same with my two photographs. i am a difficult customer,but Michael took charge,helped me to the extreme,and represented the store in a most professional way.The experience was terrific and the pricing was very reasonable.I will become a loyal Michael's customer. read more

As a craft store, this Michael's is no different from others. But at the staff level, it's a disappointment and probably an embarrassment to the chain. Not only are they routinely pretty clueless when it comes to customer service issues, they can be rude and - as I saw today - potentially discriminatory. Today, as I checked out with my five year old, the clerk complained extensively and deliberately loudly about a crying child with another customer, attempting to get me to agree with the claim that there had never been a child with such an annoying and piercing cry. First of all, it's a craft store - they run on kids and kid-projects. Second, I have a baby, too. Crying happens. But what I really objected to was the obvious side-eye and elaboration on the clerk's annoyance. The mom in question was clearly an Arab Muslim (she was veiled, she was speaking to her child in Arabic, which I also speak), and while I can't say that she actually verbalized her annoyance in racialized or Islamophobic terms, it was there. I can't tell you how many blonde Pittsford kids have melted down in that store in the years I've shopped there. This clerk has always been pretty clueless - but today she was just nasty.
