We had our son's 7th birthday party at Build-A-Bear in Eastview. Since there wasn't much…read moreinformation about their parties available, though I'd describe what it's like. You basically set a price limit for the kids and they get to pick bears and accoutrements that fit that budget. The staff escorts the kids through the process of selecting and stuffing their bears, plays some games, and then leads a cute little "ceremony" where each kid puts their birthday wish on a paper heart and they're all added to a plush heart that goes inside the birthday kid's bear. I was a little worried about a few things, all of which turned out to be no big deal. 1) I was worried that kids would whine about the price limit. This fear was unfounded -- our party staff, Cody and Mary, were terrific about guiding the kids to the right items. The kids actually seemed to enjoy their shopping trip and working within their budget. We chose one of the middle price tiers, so they had some wiggle room for shirts and shoes and whatnot. I'd suggest picking the "Make-your-own Party Package" and just telling the team when you get there how much you want to spend. 2) I was worried because the store didn't have a party room. Also unfounded -- there's a large-ish area in the back of the store where the kids hung out. While the store was a little warm and there were lots of other shoppers, it still felt like we basically had our own space. 3) I was worried because they don't allow food. No problem -- Eastview customer service confirmed that we could have cake in the food court, and candles were ok. Worked out great, and we bought the kids a round of carousel rides as well. Overall, this turned out to be an excellent venue to celebrate a kid who really likes stuffed animals. His friends all seemed to have fun and the staff was super helpful. We even came in under budget because the most popular bear happened to be on sale.

This was my first time experiencing Build a Bear. Very animated friendly greeting from the staff…read moreand a full explanation of how it works. Lots of options from bears, characters that are well known from shows, the good old character from the past, and new ones I have never seen. The stuffed animal is a shell, you pick which one you want, then the staff member beings it over to a stiffing machine where you get to interact a bit with hands on for a minute or less. Then the staff member has you out a heart into your stuffed animal. You can upgrade to smells being out inside, voice sounds, and the outfit options you can buy are very impressive, there are so many. All in all a good time. The best part is that on the child's birthday they only pay their age for the bear. Great deal! Recommend for a fun experience.

I didn't even realize that I had stopped in on new release Tuesday, so I was especially delighted to find a whole bunch of books that had been on my list to find and purchase being freshly put on display in the front of the store. Lovely, welcoming, and service-minded staff that are happy to assist in all your book-related needs *OR* just let you wander the store aimlessly (as I did) to pick up anything that grabs your attention for purchase. Great selection of books and gifts, wonderfully organized, easily available street parking, and overall just such a gem of a shop. I especially loved the "blind date with a book" selections that came with little summaries of each book. I ended up with "Mystic River" after picking a psychological thriller with dark and emotional crime stories, estranged friendships / childhood trauma, murder investigations, and working class settings as my featured themes. I remember watching the movie years ago, but had never read the book... so now I'm super excited to dive in. TL;DR Setting the bar high on the independent bookstore scene in ROC. I'll be back to this location before too long, for sure.

They have a large selection of a range of books as well as bookish gifts. The products sold here seem to be very good quality. I've also found some good picks on their sale carts. This isn't the cheapest bookstore, but it is definitely one of my favorites to browse for new books and gifts.

This is just about as good as your Friendly Local Game Shop gets. I have only been here once, but…read morecan't wait to go back again. Just Games is located in a large strip plaza in Penfield, and can be a bit tricky to find if you're not familiar with the area (i.e. me). However, once inside, it feels like you've left the hustle and bustle of the plaza behind. The manager (owner?) of the store was super nice and showed me a few things in the store, gave me their normal schedule of events, and made sure to introduce himself and get my name as well. I purchased some sleeves for one of my games and signed up for their free customer rewards program. As well as having your normal Magic the Gathering cards and supplies, the store boasts a large collection of tabletop games and accessories. Newer titles were on the shelf as well as plenty of expansions and other goodies. The store itself has a large collection of games that customers are welcome to open up and play while in the shop, and if desired, rented out for a small fee. This was probably the highlight of my visit. I tried out a couple new games and made mental notes of the games I wanted to come back and play/rent. Despite living about 75 miles away, I fully plan on taking a trek back out here to join a game night and meet some new people, learn new games, and enjoy what this shop has to offer.

Magic: The Gathering players beware!…read more Singles: the prices here are terrible, the store credit for trade-ins is minimal compared to other local stores. I've witnessed the ponytailed owner trying to rip off children for major tournament staples. I was once asked to leave when interrupting the man trying to give 40$ store credit for a 160$ card (Aether Vial from Kaladesh) by informing the 8-10 year old child of the card's true value. Events: not very competitive, but the payouts are unusually low- more for the store! I have been to multiple events where the prize structure was advertised one way online and then lowered in person. I have been to special promo events where the prizes were set by the manufacturer and the store chose to keep product for itself by altering the payout structure. This is somewhere between dishonesty and theft, considering tournaments cost money to enter. Do not support this business.
