Amazing shadow box done of both my dogs
    Robert R.

I'm a forever customer of Michael's craft store now! This is because of the amazing customer service and kindness of their framing department at the Fire Creek location in Reno! The story: I recently lost both my 16 year old Huskies. My boy husky, Bear, he passed away January 2025. I was devastated. To honor his memory, I took my favorite picture of him, his paw print, and his blue dog collar to Michael's for them to frame in a shadow box. I have had many items framed and shadow boxes at this store. It does a really great job every time. The store worked on the box for about 4 weeks or so, when I got it back, it looked perfect! I hung it up in my office so I could see my dog everyday! A month and a half later, my girl dog Nieve passed away 3 days after her 16th birthday. I was really heart broken. Losing both my dogs within about 3 months. I took the shadow box of Bear and also Nieve's paw print and pink collar to Michael's to see if they could put both of my dogs items into one box for me to honor and remember my dogs. There was a nice young man in the framing department that saw how shook up I looked and carefully listened to my ask about updating the current box to the new one with both my dogs. He was extremely kind and listened to my ask and told me they could make those changes work. He asked when I needed it by and I said whenever they could do it, I didn't want to rush them with this because of how important it was to me. I got a call 3 hours after I dropped it off. It was completed. I went to go pick it up and instead of the nice young man, it was an older gentleman there to help me with my order. He was so kind with his words about how hard it is losing a pet. He was just so nice to me about the whole interaction. He and the young man talked about the work and got it done right away for me. They knew it was really important to me and I was grieving. Since it was fixing an adjustment they said there wouldn't be a charge. I felt overwhelmed by their kindness. I was getting teary just standing there listening to the nice old man. This was just so above and beyond for me grieving about my two dogs of 16 years, I don't think either of the two framing guys understand what this meant to me. I'll never go to another store for any of my framing needs. I probably spend at least $2,000 a year on framing. Michaels has a fantastic staff and you have a customer for life. I'll be sure to tell all my friends and family about my experience there.

Picked up a few summer succulents today.. left pic..

Decided to stop and browse for the artificial succulents.. So happy to see they did have a small variety.. Kind of expensive and not on sale... As I walked passed the summer floral decor.. there were a few colorful ones that caught my attention..plus 50%off.... Picked up a few and some sewing needles and buttons.. Glad I stopped!

Quality/Quantity - Good, we get all our arts and craft stuff from Michaels. Actually, we also try to get our picture frame services here. They have a good selection. Also weekly ads & coupons, see website. Atmosphere - Good size and selection. Plenty of mall parking. Open 7 days a week from 9am to 9pm, Sundays from 10am to 7pm. Service - Good, but today was self service. They now have 4 self service checkouts, so convenient. Also curbside pick-up, an inside pick-up for online orders. See pictures. Same day delivery, see website. Loyalty program. FYI - You need to update on Yelp your "From the Business;" Fall and Halloween is over. Price - Depends on what you buy, but expect it to be above average prices. The cost of convenience. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since 1973 with your 1252+ locations.

Custom framed and matted - great job!
    Shannon H.

The Michael's framing department crew did an amazing job on my custom framing job. They floated my Cambodian lotus paper on top of a mat and it looks beautiful! Communication was good and I'm very pleased with how it turned out. It's a large piece and the cost was just under $200 which I felt was fair.

Having said this, I experienced a tragic & sudden loss of a friend. Prior to her death, I signed up for a class and because of this sudden death, I was not able to attend. I called Sierra Sewing in Reno to see about a refund due to these unforeseen circumstances. After two attempts, I finally spoke with Jared and was told I would not receive a refund because their policy states the last day you are allowed to cancel, for a refund, is 7 days prior to class date/time.  My friend died suddenly and there is no way I could give them a 7 day advance notice-given the circumstances surrounding her tragic death. I have spent many thousands of dollars at Sierra Sewing and after being a loyal customer I am told I will not receive my refund because "that is the policy."  I will never shop at Sierra Sewing again. We never know what life will throw at us and instead of sympathy or sorry for my loss, I was told "sorry, you have to cancel 7 days before the class. That's our policy." Think twice before you give them your money. They lack empathy and are unable to understand life's unpredictable events and finally, they do not appreciate a loyal customer. When I talked with the technician, he told me that the motherboard and associated parts had to be replaced as a clip had broken on a ribbon cable and someone must have been rough with the machine when servicing it. I told him that I had only taken it to Sierra Sewing for the last 5-6 years and he walked back the comment about someone being rough and said well they are plastic so sometimes they just break. He then asked me to check and see if the machine was still under warranty or not. It was not. So I had to prepay for a $915 part. I was told it would take 3-4 weeks for the part to come in and they would call as soon as the repair was done. I didn't hear anything after the four weeks from that day when the order was placed so I called on June 5th to get an update and was then told "the parts just show up when they show up as we don't have a way to track them." This was the first time I requested to speak with a manager. They took my information and told me the manager would call me back. (he didn't) I waited a couple of more weeks and called again on June 29th asking for an update and to speak to a manager and received the same song and dance. They also told me the manager was at a Bernina event and would be out until the following week but he would call me then. (he didn't.) I called again asking few weeks later on August 4th and surprisingly the manager - Jared - answered. I told him the issue I had been having and what I was told by his repair person. Initially all he could see was that the machine was brought in for one service. I had him look up my grandmothers name and he read through the service record showing it had been there for service for the last 5-6 years. He said he was the only one with order tracking ability but the part should be in that Wednesday. He told me he would speak with the repair person and call me back. The manager called me back on Monday, August 10th and I returned his call quickly but he was unavailable. I left my information and didn't receive a call back. I tried again on the 13th but received the same answer and again, did not receive a call back. I called twice on Monday the 17th and finally was able to get him on the phone again on the second try. He indicated the part was in and that the machine was not purchased from their shop even though that was where it had been serviced. He said sometimes it just happens with where the plastic piece is by the motor and the heat degrades the plastic. I asked if I could expect to run into the same issue in the future and he said no, it was a fluke. This tells me that this was damage done by rough handling and they were not willing to own up to it even though I do not travel with the machine nor have I taken it apart or had any other shop take it apart. The best he could do was take 20% off the part price and deduct it from the repair bill. Still ended up paying an additional $100. I asked him when the machine would be ready and he said they would have it done by Tuesday or the latest Wednesday. I asked if someone would call me when it was ready and he said yes. I once again, did not receive a call, I had to call and ask about the status and if the machine was ready to be picked up. Also, had they received the part on the Wednesday (8/6) he initially communicated it would be in, they waited a week and half before working on the machine and getting it done even though they had already had it four months. All that to say, be careful if you take your machine here and have any sort of trouble. It will take a very long time to get it resolved and if you don't follow up you will not receive any kind of consistent follow up or communication from anyone. And in the end they don't do right by the customer even when it is their error. They have lost myself and my grandmother as customers. And I still have yet to receive the refund to my card for the part.

Twelve days passed without the replacement order being processed, and it wasn't until I contacted them to ask about it that anything was done. What was especially disappointing was the company-centric solution they offered as compensation: a 20% off coupon that required me to spend more money with their company. In other words, I was offered a discount on a future purchase to compensate me for an error they made on my current order--and for failing to follow through on correcting that error. I also asked if they could simply expedite the replacement order to make up for the inconvenience. That would have been a simple and reasonable solution, particularly in an era when technology makes it easier than ever to process and expedite orders quickly. Instead, my request was actively denied. Mistakes happen. What matters is how a company handles those mistakes. In this case, I felt the priority was protecting the company's bottom line rather than making things right for the customer. Based on this experience, I would be cautious about ordering from a company that appears willing to put its financial interests ahead of its customers' experience.
