My favorite bookstore!! I first heard about this place as it's one of the rare bookstores in all of…read morethe US that has both books and cats!!! There's a quiet room in the back where there's a few cats up for adoption. This way if you're allergic or whatnot, you don't have to worry about any cats wandering around (though personally, I'm totally cool with that!) I love their selection, they have such a diverse selection in all of the genres. It's such a treat to come visit because I can always find books I haven't seen yet! They have a wide selection of merch, like soap, stickers, pins, and more. The decor is so cute; last time I went there were so many origami cats everywhere! I also LOVE how connected they are with the community; they have a list serve you can sign up to get a monthly newsletter of all the cool events they have! I'm really happy we have such a unique and special bookstore here.

I came here on Saturday April 25th for Indie Bookstore Day and this place was PACKED. It was hard…read moreto navigate to the fiction shelf as there were so many people looking for new books to add to their collections. My genre of choice is Romance and I did not see a dedicated Romance section. Luckily, "House of Cotton" was on my TBR, as I had bought and gifted it a few years ago. So I snagged it and paid. The two workers behind the cash wrap were friendly and took the time to make me feel like I was the only patron in the store, despite what was probably an onslaught for the day. Rad Cat also has a curated selection of stationary and journals to choose from if that's something you're also in the market for. They have a section for cats you can interact with, however with the amount of people that came through on this day, the cats were also overwhelmed and weren't able to be interacted with. Which is totally fine and made total sense for the day.

Wow! I'm already a huge fan of the Reno location, so when my travels took me to Sparks, I made it a…read morepoint to stop by and check out the sister store! To say I was blown away is an understatement. It's still got the quintessential CnC charm and humor, but amped up to 10 with lifesize displays, larger murals, more merch and those vibes we all love about this place! The bar area got a massive plus up in Sparks, with a full cocktail program, craft beers, and lots of delightful NA options too. The plush blue chairs look super inviting, and I can just imagine the fun times spent here hanging into the evening. Baristas are super friendly and the menu features all the faves from Reno, and then some! Here's the rub. It's hidden in a quiet corner of the best shopping center in all of Sparks. You've got CnC, Mountain Mike's, Smashin' Good Times, Paleteria del Angel, and Shang Hai restaurant all in the same spot, and you can have one helluva day just bouncing from one to the other. I sure hope my friends will find their way here to check it out for yourselves. They have awesome events and programs too, so scope the socials for the schedule and make a plan!

I came here to rock out and found myself enjoying a pulled pork sandwhich with a lavender soda which isn't very punk rock but the fuel definitely helped! Upon observation, I noticed old school arcade games, board games, comic books and many other things to make you enjoy your stay here. Definitely look forward to visiting on a regular business day.

Five Dog Books is not very easy to locate. It's on a residential street in a converted house with a…read moresmall sign out front to declare the treasures inside. I mentioned this to the owner; he replied that he only wanted the serious book buyer to find him. I think he succeeds in this wish rather well. He also has the most messed up hours I've ever seen and he rarely keeps them, so it's nearly impossible to visit more then once. The shop isn't incredibly large, but every room is tastefully shelved and in proper order. I felt, though, that I was not allowed to simply shop. The owner insisted on reading excerpts from his favourites tomes. All I wanted to do was to shop for a few books, I did not want to entertain "open mic night"! While the selection was incredible, the owner was annoying and just wouldn't leave me alone. He only accepts cash and there is no wheelchair access. Both of which are not good for me.

Ah Five Dog Books. I have a lot of misgivings about the place. Located in the old residential…read moresection of Holcomb Avenue (fairly close to the Citgo on South Virginia), Five Dog is located in a somewhat rundown house. The sign is no longer than, having been taken down. Manuel does indeed have the most inflexible hours that I have ever seen, the store is more by appointment than having any actual set hours and he is somewhat eccentric. His selection of Great Basin history/Native American history is absolutely excellent, as well as his selection of philosophy and literature. He does tend to go around quoting Jorge Luis Borges quite frequently, which makes it irritating to actually concentrate on browsing for books. He does not accept anything but cash or checks, which is also quite frustrating and will occasionally decide not to sell a certain book to someone after they have made a selection. Why are the books on display and priced if you do not want to sell them? Very irritating. If you venture to explore Five Dog Books, bring cash with you and have two or three hours to devote to talking to Manuel. Despite his limited hours, his knowledge of literature is incredibly diverse and voracious and his literary insights are fascinating. You will learn something when talking to him.

I recently visited Mystic Rose. I would give the ladies working there five stars for their customer…read moreservice and giving us information regarding their classes. (You can find their class schedule on the web and I would definitely say that is worth a look-see!) There is parking right in front of the store and it is just off S Virginia St, easy to find. The reason for the three stars has to do with inventory. This is not a large shop so one has to consider space available for merchandise. However, there was not much of a selection and the prices were fairly high. I realize that it is becoming harder to run a brick and mortar store front everyday, but I found the merchandise to be "stale" and dated. (ie: no latest tarot decks, books, etc.) I also felt like if I were to return in a month or so, it would look much as it did the day I visited, with the same merchandise in the same place. It may be that "Mystic Rose" concentrates more on the classes and readings and such, but that's not why I came. I miss the well-stocked metaphysical shops of the past and would love to see a sample tarot deck or book before I purchase it... I guess those days are gone.

Would really recommend this place if you are looking to take time for your inner being.
