My daughter and I love this bookstore and visit often. They have a great selection of both new and used books at very competitive prices. They will pay cash for your used books, vinyl records and blu-rays and the selling process is super easy and efficient. The store is well organized and easy to find the title/author you seek by category. The staff has always been very welcoming and helpful. It is locally owned and we love to support our community business owners. They have an outside sale where everything is only $1 and on Sundays, you can fill a grocery-sized bag up for a mere $5! Come check this place out and pick up some good reads!

Nothing fancy, but full of treasures. What looks like an old service station at one time, has been this fabulous bookstore for years. I pass it a lot coming and going to Costco. And every once in awhile stop to check out new finds. GR is very well organized. Inside all the areas are well labeled. On nice days there are sale racks out front in the parking lot. During the summer go to the west side of the building and through the gate. There are 30 or more tables with boxes and boxes of books on clearance. Still very well organized- each table is labeled with the type of books in the boxes. GR carries brand new and used books. They have their own private parking lot and some street parking that is also free. They accept credit cards and cash.

Was visiting Reno and came across this bookstore! So many different kinds of reads. Cheap prices on hardback and paperback books! They even have current best sellers! If in the area please check them out! When I visit Reno again that is one place I will always go! Wish they could come to Texas!

Calligraphy book, used, great condition, only $1.99!!! So excited

Visited the bookstore while waiting for our car service to be complete. They have a great kids section and my son got a book on coding, a new fiction book, and a little crochet art project. I got a book on calligraphy as I'm practicing hand lettering. The book was so helpful! The staff was nice, the selection was great, and the prices were very affordable! I will definitely visit again!

There's something to be said about eclectic bookstores. With a huge bookstore in town already, and many people switching to electronic books, I love disappearing in the crowded shelf mazes, of tiny little locally owned bookstores. Grassroots has so much inside, you would have to spend awhile to see it all. I've spent some time wandering and reading...yet I'm always drawn towards the children's book area. That's where I can often times, find books from when I was little. The hungry caterpillar, Clifford the red dog etc. Books I remember reading. My favorite thing to do however is to go to the children's cookbooks section and pick out the cookbooks for my son. I have him look through the pages and pick something out to make for dinner, then we go shopping together, and then we make the dinner together! I loved that they had a whole section of children's cookbooks to choose from, and many more books for people of all ages in many different genres! If you're looking for an amazing locally owned bookstore to get lost in, grassroots is the place! Go check it out!

My genre of choice is Romance and I did not see a dedicated Romance section. Luckily, "House of Cotton" was on my TBR, as I had bought and gifted it a few years ago. So I snagged it and paid. The two workers behind the cash wrap were friendly and took the time to make me feel like I was the only patron in the store, despite what was probably an onslaught for the day. Rad Cat also has a curated selection of stationary and journals to choose from if that's something you're also in the market for. They have a section for cats you can interact with, however with the amount of people that came through on this day, the cats were also overwhelmed and weren't able to be interacted with. (You can find their class schedule on the web and I would definitely say that is worth a look-see!) There is parking right in front of the store and it is just off S Virginia St, easy to find. The reason for the three stars has to do with inventory. This is not a large shop so one has to consider space available for merchandise. However, there was not much of a selection and the prices were fairly high. I realize that it is becoming harder to run a brick and mortar store front everyday, but I found the merchandise to be "stale" and dated. (ie: no latest tarot decks, books, etc.) I also felt like if I were to return in a month or so, it would look much as it did the day I visited, with the same merchandise in the same place. It may be that "Mystic Rose" concentrates more on the classes and readings and such, but that's not why I came. I mentioned this to the owner; he replied that he only wanted the serious book buyer to find him. I think he succeeds in this wish rather well. The shop isn't incredibly large, but every room is tastefully shelved and in proper order. I felt, though, that I was not allowed to simply shop. The owner insisted on reading excerpts from his favourites tomes. All I wanted to do was to shop for a few books, I did not want to entertain "open mic night"! While the selection was incredible, the owner was annoying and just wouldn't leave me alone. He only accepts cash and there is no wheelchair access. Both of which are not good for me.

The sign is no longer than, having been taken down. Manuel does indeed have the most inflexible hours that I have ever seen, the store is more by appointment than having any actual set hours and he is somewhat eccentric. His selection of Great Basin history/Native American history is absolutely excellent, as well as his selection of philosophy and literature. He does tend to go around quoting Jorge Luis Borges quite frequently, which makes it irritating to actually concentrate on browsing for books. He does not accept anything but cash or checks, which is also quite frustrating and will occasionally decide not to sell a certain book to someone after they have made a selection. Why are the books on display and priced if you do not want to sell them? Very irritating. If you venture to explore Five Dog Books, bring cash with you and have two or three hours to devote to talking to Manuel. Despite his limited hours, his knowledge of literature is incredibly diverse and voracious and his literary insights are fascinating. You will learn something when talking to him.
