Today was my first day visiting The Radical Cat! I lost my cat about 9 months ago and it was so nice to go in and get/give some attention! Books and cats! Perfect combination! I left with books, but it was tough to leave the kitty behind. I'm not quite ready for another unless she is a traveling cat! Wonderful staff and they have a nice selection of books, cards, etc... I love the book bag too!

The Radical Cat can order books for you too, anything that the big box store can get you. I am impressed with the instore selection focusing on our personal identities and experiences. They have a kids section as well as unusual gift items. Our world is richer with independent bookstores in the neighborhood.

Wonderful selection of books and merchandise! Clean, comfortable, and well-organized, The Radical Cat has a welcoming and comforting vibe. Browse the great titles, and set some time aside to visit with the cats. (And be sure to follow the rules, such as no picking up the cats, for the protection of the fabulous felines!) A lovely store to visit, and I know I'm going to be able to accomplish some Christmas shopping here soon!

What an amazing and unique place for Reno! I went in with my daughter and they had a great kids book selection. The cats were all adopted when we came in so that part was empty but I can't wait to come back.

This is such a great concept- purrfectly executed! The Radical Cat has been open for about three weeks and already, two cats have been adopted! This is an excellent bookstore with some niche subjects- feminism, social justice and activism, antiracism, and more. There's fiction and nonfiction, new and used books, and even a children's section. It's small but packed with the good stuff- just don't come looking for the latest popular romance novel- it's not that kind of store. It is a comfy cozy space to read, chat, or hang put with cats! The cat area (which is cool, made out of old windows and stuff) is a separate enclosed area. There's comfy seating in there too and plenty of toys, cat trees etc. so you can spend time with the cats and get to know them in a relaxed way. I went close to closing time (6 pm) so I didn't get to spend too much time hanging out, but I am looking forward to a return visit very soon! Easy parking, friendly helpful owner, so love that this exists in Reno now!

AMAZING bookstore! Such an excellent collection of books of all kinds and gifts. Friendly employees and a great atmosphere of the store!

My kids love bookstores and cats, so visiting the Radical Cat was right up our alley. The owner helped introduce our kids to the cats and taught them a bit about how to read cat body language. We purchased two books for our kids (ages 8 and 10) and a lovely, soft t-shirt. Visiting the cats is free, unlike other cat cafes I've been to. Overall we have a lovely visit this morning and then grabbed a drink at the Magpie Cafe next door. We will definitely be back for more books and cat petting. They even invited our kids to come do their homework in the cat room once school starts back up!

SUCH AN AMAZING CUTE LITTLE SHOP! Even just the book store alone! it's super cute and full of a really great selection of reading material. The kid's section is especially incredible full of lots of really positive messages for the next generation to grow up on! I didn't get to see any kitties, because *drumroll* the kitties are adoptable! and seemed to have all found homes! i'm hoping to pop back in when i'm ready for a new book and maybe i'll get to visit some purrfect babies that time! Also side note we had really great service from the super helpful employee who was more than happy to answer any questions we had!

Grassroots Books is a very good used bookstore with a lot of variety of material-- children's books, DVD's, some records, gently used paperback and hardcover books. Hours are flexible for when they are open, however, they only buy books on Thursdays during the afternoon. I have never been tempted much to sell anything to them over the years, as they tend to be quite choosy with the material that they want and don't want. As a longtime book collector, this is important to maintaining a quality used stock and helps with inventory management. I highly recommend Grassroots for your next book adventure!

The shelves were brimming and there was plenty of staff on hand to help find things and answer questions. Normally, I am an independent bookstore supporter and I do still buy the majority of my books from smaller independent booksellers. Unfortunately, I haven't found an independent bookstore in Nevada -- North or South -- that compares to the likes of Vroman's in Pasadena (if you have a recommendation, I am all ears). That said, if you are in the Reno area and want a brick and mortar bookstore with a huge selection, this is the place. And they do offer some decent discounts, so keep an eye out for the books that have been marked down. I was able to pick up a first edition of Patti Smith's new memoir at 50% off!

Even though our visit was fruitless (book-wise, not drink-wise), we still had a positive shopping experience.

(You can find their class schedule on the web and I would definitely say that is worth a look-see!) There is parking right in front of the store and it is just off S Virginia St, easy to find. The reason for the three stars has to do with inventory. This is not a large shop so one has to consider space available for merchandise. However, there was not much of a selection and the prices were fairly high. I realize that it is becoming harder to run a brick and mortar store front everyday, but I found the merchandise to be "stale" and dated. (ie: no latest tarot decks, books, etc.) I also felt like if I were to return in a month or so, it would look much as it did the day I visited, with the same merchandise in the same place. It may be that "Mystic Rose" concentrates more on the classes and readings and such, but that's not why I came. I miss the well-stocked metaphysical shops of the past and would love to see a sample tarot deck or book before I purchase it... I guess those days are gone.

I mentioned this to the owner; he replied that he only wanted the serious book buyer to find him. I think he succeeds in this wish rather well. He also has the most messed up hours I've ever seen and he rarely keeps them, so it's nearly impossible to visit more then once. The shop isn't incredibly large, but every room is tastefully shelved and in proper order. I felt, though, that I was not allowed to simply shop. The owner insisted on reading excerpts from his favourites tomes. All I wanted to do was to shop for a few books, I did not want to entertain "open mic night"! While the selection was incredible, the owner was annoying and just wouldn't leave me alone. He only accepts cash and there is no wheelchair access. Both of which are not good for me.

The sign is no longer than, having been taken down. Manuel does indeed have the most inflexible hours that I have ever seen, the store is more by appointment than having any actual set hours and he is somewhat eccentric. His selection of Great Basin history/Native American history is absolutely excellent, as well as his selection of philosophy and literature. He does tend to go around quoting Jorge Luis Borges quite frequently, which makes it irritating to actually concentrate on browsing for books. He does not accept anything but cash or checks, which is also quite frustrating and will occasionally decide not to sell a certain book to someone after they have made a selection. Why are the books on display and priced if you do not want to sell them? Very irritating. If you venture to explore Five Dog Books, bring cash with you and have two or three hours to devote to talking to Manuel. Despite his limited hours, his knowledge of literature is incredibly diverse and voracious and his literary insights are fascinating. You will learn something when talking to him.
