The disgusting part, even predatory, was when the pastor said to me "I know you don't have much family left, and now you won't have your church family either". My Journey to Finding a Church Home I started going to Rock…read moreChurch last Christmas, and it all began with the Ugly Sweater service. That one experience told me everything I needed to know--this was the church for me. Their "come as you are" and "all are welcome" message isn't just something they say--it's something they live. Let me start by saying I'm 62 years old. I've always considered myself spiritual, but not necessarily religious. Maybe it has something to do with the 12 years I spent in Catholic school. Faith has always been important to me, but I never quite found a church community that felt like home--until now. A few things immediately put me at ease and made me realize this was the church family I'd been searching for. Pastor Rebecca shared openly about her struggles with faith--how she questioned it many times over the years. That honesty made me feel seen and reminded me it's okay to wrestle with doubt. In later services, she continued to speak vulnerably about her faith, her family, and even her own challenges. She's real, and that means everything. Every time Pastor Rebecca speaks, I feel like I'm learning something. She breaks things down in a way that's approachable--combining scripture, educational insight, humor, and vulnerability. She doesn't preach at us--she invites us into the message. Pastor Connie is the real deal too. She's not overly polished or rehearsed, and her messages always give me something to reflect on. She shares from her own life experiences, which makes her so approachable and genuine. She's encouraged us to listen for God, to be patient, to trust that prayers will be answered in His time. Most of all, she reminds us that God is in our corner--not judging us, but loving us and lifting us up. She's also spoken about the fears we all carry--not just for ourselves, but for the marginalized and vulnerable in today's world. She doesn't shy away from tough topics but meets them with compassion and truth. There was a time when I walked out of a Christmas service at another church feeling completely discouraged. The head pastor told the congregation that some of us weren't going to make it--and I left that day wondering if I'd ever find a church that inspired me to do good, to be good, and to believe that God truly wants us to succeed. A place where Jesus is more than a symbol--He's a friend, a brother, an example to live by. And I'm happy to say I've finally found that place. Rock Church has become the spiritual home I didn't even realize I was searching for. I'll be honest--they encourage us to participate and get involved, and I haven't quite stepped into that yet. For now, I've been watching from afar, soaking it all in. But something in me knows... I won't be sitting on the sidelines forever. And I haven't even mentioned the worship team--amazing! The music is so moving, and sometimes Pastor Connie or Pastor Rebecca are right up there, singing or playing guitar. It's not a performance--it's worship. I can truly feel the Holy Spirit through the songs, and there have been moments when I've been brought to tears. So, if you're someone still searching for a place where you're accepted as you are... a place that feeds both your heart and your mind... a place where faith is real, honest, and alive--this might be that place for you too.

I tried to be of service too but didn't end up getting a job there . I ran into hardship eventually and we ended up not pre paying for day care at some point and was told we needed to leave work and come get the children. I believe we were 50 bucks behind . This is when the church went completely sideways, I would get calls almost daily asking for the 50 dollars , I had pulled the kids out of day care completely and found other means , at the time we started even using the food pantry because we were struggling so bad , Andy was head of music , he would give me a reminder every Sunday of what I owed too , even when I showed up to pick up food from the food pantry, I can't remember if it was Andy's wife , I think it was , I'm not certain but a lady literally made us feel so terrible for being so broke , I have never had a church make me feel so ashamed for not paying them money ( 50 bucks sadly ). I even asked if they could just help me with it or hold off until I get back on track . But they never let me live it down . It seems so petty . I know, it's been over 6 yrs now and I'm doin really great today , thank the good lord and I'm currently looking for a church again , I have not been back to a church since then . I really wanted to share this experience because it truly hurt my heart . I hope they are not this way still but it really felt like they all were clicked up with each other and had no problem shaming you tell you leave . They continued calling for a good long time too . It was a very sad story all the way around . All over 50 dollars, I'll never understand.

How do you yelp a church?…read more First and foremost, it's got to be about the sermon, and I can assure you that Our Lady of Wisdom has one of the most knowledgeable Catholic Priests that I've ever heard preach. Father Nathan Mamo has studied in Rome, led groups to the Holy Land, and done a significant amount of public speaking on behalf of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and right now he's the priest of the church that UNR has grown up around. My wife and I wandered in to visit Father Nathan on a Saturday, and we joined a mass already in progress. There were about 20 people in the room, and given the state of the parking situation (there is none) it was a big crowd. His audience are primarily students at UNR, and thus a young group. They were involved in the mass, serving at the alter and providing the Eucharist to the parishioners. The church is old, built around 70 years ago, and many of the features inside the church reflect the era it was built nicely. It's a throwback to an era of ornate alters and simple pews. Four stars? This is all about the parking, everything else is five stars. Great sermons, engaging people to worship with, and a great old church make it a very pleasant place to worship. Heck, if you're waking up on a Sunday morning at Circus Circus, it's not too far of a walk. Google it, you'll be surprised.

We paid our $4,000 plus all of the expenses associated with such a trip (vaccinations, clothing and such). 7 days before the trip Living Stones "found out" we'd attended the Center for Spiritual Living (a place that honors all people and love through God). We were questioned heavily about this and my comment on having "Higher Intuition". I had to clarify multiple times that I am not a medium nor practicing mediumship but rather trying to figure this all out. Side note: Living Stones Reno was founded on the ideology of Higher Intuition when the lead Pastor had a vision he was leading a church of people and preaching the Gospel (or at least that's what was shared with us during the membership meeting at LS Sparks). My husband and I requested a meeting with the team lead, Adam and for him to request the lead pastor Kyle join us. Kyle was evidently busy until Monday (4 days before our scheduled mission trip to Guatemala) so Adam rounded up whomever he could find, another Pastor, Shay to meet with us. Though apparently we weren't welcome at the church and they suggest a very busy Starbucks within walking distance of the church were we sat outside freezing in an attempt to not be publicly humiliated with all of Starbucks listening in. The sad part, the decision was made long before we ever sat down to discuss. I discussed that I do have these visions and that I'm trying to figure them out but that they are God centered and he is always the focus of everything in our lives. They ultimately decided that we COULD serve Living Water Organization however NOT along side them. I called Living Water first thing the following morning and they immediately told me they do not support such decisions and they are more than happy to place us on a team of Christians who would welcome us with open arms and love on us. (Says a lot for this Living Stones church). I informed them I was completely heartbroken and that I feel at this point it would bleed through while trying to serve. Long story short. This church loves CONDITIONALLY. If you meet their conditions, you deserve to serve along side them. If you do not, sorry, they determine your heart and ability to serve Jesus Christ. I will continue to pray for all of Gods people. I recommend finding a church that loves unconditionally and a Pastor willing to take time for emergency situations. Also, they quickly threw in that to serve on a mission trip you had to be a covenant member. We didn't attend this church for 6 weeks and not one person noticed enough to even call us. We also were NOT members when they allowed us to sign up for the trip. Super hypocritical and self serving.
