Grassroots Books is a very good used bookstore with a lot of variety of material-- children's books, DVD's, some records, gently used paperback and hardcover books. Hours are flexible for when they are open, however, they only buy books on Thursdays during the afternoon. I have never been tempted much to sell anything to them over the years, as they tend to be quite choosy with the material that they want and don't want. As a longtime book collector, this is important to maintaining a quality used stock and helps with inventory management. I highly recommend Grassroots for your next book adventure!

There's a quiet room in the back where there's a few cats up for adoption. This way if you're allergic or whatnot, you don't have to worry about any cats wandering around (though personally, I'm totally cool with that!) I love their selection, they have such a diverse selection in all of the genres. It's such a treat to come visit because I can always find books I haven't seen yet! They have a wide selection of merch, like soap, stickers, pins, and more. The decor is so cute; last time I went there were so many origami cats everywhere! I also LOVE how connected they are with the community; they have a list serve you can sign up to get a monthly newsletter of all the cool events they have! I'm really happy we have such a unique and special bookstore here.

My genre of choice is Romance and I did not see a dedicated Romance section. Luckily, "House of Cotton" was on my TBR, as I had bought and gifted it a few years ago. So I snagged it and paid. The two workers behind the cash wrap were friendly and took the time to make me feel like I was the only patron in the store, despite what was probably an onslaught for the day. Rad Cat also has a curated selection of stationary and journals to choose from if that's something you're also in the market for. They have a section for cats you can interact with, however with the amount of people that came through on this day, the cats were also overwhelmed and weren't able to be interacted with. Which is totally fine and made total sense for the day.

The shelves were brimming and there was plenty of staff on hand to help find things and answer questions. Normally, I am an independent bookstore supporter and I do still buy the majority of my books from smaller independent booksellers. Unfortunately, I haven't found an independent bookstore in Nevada -- North or South -- that compares to the likes of Vroman's in Pasadena (if you have a recommendation, I am all ears). That said, if you are in the Reno area and want a brick and mortar bookstore with a huge selection, this is the place. And they do offer some decent discounts, so keep an eye out for the books that have been marked down. I was able to pick up a first edition of Patti Smith's new memoir at 50% off!

The employees were nice, particularly the young lady that helped my niece; she patiently looked up the title of the book even though my niece didn't have all the information. While inside Barnes & Noble, we also stopped by Starbucks to indulge in some sweet treats before making our way out the store. Even though our visit was fruitless (book-wise, not drink-wise), we still had a positive shopping experience.

(You can find their class schedule on the web and I would definitely say that is worth a look-see!) There is parking right in front of the store and it is just off S Virginia St, easy to find. The reason for the three stars has to do with inventory. This is not a large shop so one has to consider space available for merchandise. However, there was not much of a selection and the prices were fairly high. I realize that it is becoming harder to run a brick and mortar store front everyday, but I found the merchandise to be "stale" and dated. (ie: no latest tarot decks, books, etc.) I also felt like if I were to return in a month or so, it would look much as it did the day I visited, with the same merchandise in the same place. It may be that "Mystic Rose" concentrates more on the classes and readings and such, but that's not why I came. I miss the well-stocked metaphysical shops of the past and would love to see a sample tarot deck or book before I purchase it... I guess those days are gone.

The services are open to the public, but your prayers can be fulfilled with a bought on your knees your lighting a candle anytime you need. The church keeps its doors open to the public during business type hours for public use. A small candle donation is not required but appreciated. The Catholic population of Reno was vast in the early years with no place of worship or fellowship. The cornerstone of the church was laid in 1906. In June of 1908 the cathedral was dedicated. All worship services were in full swing, but a fire destroyed the roof in 1909. It was rebuilt and rededicated in 1910 where it still stands tall for all to come. The first Bishop of Reno, Thomas Kiely Gorman was set as the Diocese of Reno. Through the years many restorations have taken place to retro fit the foundation. In the 1950s a wrap around mural surrounding the alter was installed. A one of a kind mural painted by Edith and Isabel Piczek, is considered "to be one of the finest works of its kind in America." The theme of the mural depicts "Adoration of the Lamb of God, our Lord in the Blessed Eucharist." The message of the mural depicts how important the modern family should accept sacrament for communion for their lives and the community. The murals presents images of "Saints from the Old Law," Abel, Moses, Ruth, Abraham, and Isaac in all their glory. Depictions of John the Baptist and the Lamb of God are presented in all majesty.
