I stopped on March 12, 2026 and needed a restroom after some coffee The women's restroom had a foul smell. My little grandson couldn't stand it. It wasn't like fart smell or normal bathroom stink it was a real odd smell. Then when I went to wash my hands both sinks were filthy and it was dirt buildup that could cleaned with Bar Keepers friend scrubbed in it. See photos. Horrible customer service. Spent over $100 for wood canvases and paint markers and then was told to wait for a manager to get the markers from the back. 10 minutes later I was still waiting, I found the manager who was helping another person ( mind You I saw her helping her when I was still shopping 20 min ago) I asked how long she would be as I was in a hurry and she said I am both sure I need to help her. With only 2 customers in the store I would think the cashier could help her get items for her cart and the manager could take 2 minutes to get makes from the back. I returned everything and once the return was completed the manager then said I can help you now. What a waste of time! I will not be coming back to this Michaels location ever!!? read more

Sorry to hear that others have experienced issues with the staff here. For me, I'm grateful that this Michael's exists here on the Central Coast. A number of times when driving through, heading for the Bay Area, I've stopped in to check out their yarn department, or pick up wrapping supplies for gifts. Mostly yarn hunting though, as crocheting is my relaxation passion! I wouldn't say that this specific store offers the best selection of yarns, but it gets me by. We met family in SLO County last month for a weekend getaway, and I visited Michael's after leaving downtown Paso and heading back to our rental in Atascadero. Don't recall exactly what I bought, but I think it was something to finish a project in 49er colors. Checkout went smoothly, and I'll surely be back again when in town. read more

I needed a frame for an 8x10 blow up that I had made of one of my sons and his wife. There was a gentleman who helped me and tried his hardest to find something that would work so that we wouldn't lose very much of the photograph due to the matting. Then a woman showed up and the man I guess was off his shift. I said we'd had trouble retaining the maximum amount of the photograph and I would go ahead and take the original frame and matting that was included with that frame, because it was the best that we can find. The woman proceeded to tell me the matting was not included with the frame! Wrong! The matting was included with the frame and it was in the unwrapped frame that we hadn't even looked at behind the one that we were using as a sample. I explained to her that the matting was included, she insisted it wasn't, basically calling me a liar! Not okay!!! There were two frames with the aqua/turquoise color in the 8x10 size with matting included!! She stormed off to go down the aisle to show that there was no matting included with the frame, and I walked out of the store. She obviously did not know the product, and refused to believe me, insisting that I had not told the truth or did not know what I was talking about! I really needed that frame, for a special occasion, and the madding, should anybody go looking in the frame section, does include a matting under the plastic protective cover, so it came with the frame! It's very frustrating when you try to support local businesses and then you get treated like you're a crook. She should really be ashamed of her attitude the way she treated me, but I have to say that the man who was helping me initially was wonderful, patient and even tried to see if he could make a matting that would give me a more visible photograph. He most certainly is to be commended for his effort and people skills. I hope he gets a raise, because in this day and age there are many wonderful salespeople, but there are also very obnoxious ones who have no problem just being rude or ignoring you. Hats off to the gentleman! And hats off to the cashier at the front of the store, as I purchased a few picture hanging items and she was so very gracious and very very helpful. Yesterday was Sunday and it was 20% off your entire order day + you could use a 40% off coupon on one item so I took a shower and got dressed and decided to venture out on my 1st real day off in a while (I was just going to stay in and flake out and rest) but when they emailed the coupons to me... I decided to go off the hill and head to town (which is a 12 mile drive!) It was funny cuz my daughter who lives in Los Angeles called me and said "What ya doing?" And I said... "I'm on my way to Michales" and she said "Me too!!!!!" Ahhhh... we are soul mates. What can I tell ya? We laughed and wished we were headed for the SAME one but... oh well.... Anywaaaay, in the past, I have not been too impressed with the customer sevice at this particular store but there was a customer service gal who was so helpful named Jackie there that my opinion had no choice but to do a 180 and................... $100+ later thanks to her assistance and great advice and patient leading me to different aisles.... I totally changed my mind about this Michales and it is now my favotire... thooooouuuugh any "one" that my daughter is at... would have been my true favorite... but Jackie helped make it a nice shopping experience anyway! Kudos to Jackie.... That store got a gem when they hired her! She acted as if she was actually happy to be there and even happier to be helping me... Michaels is one of those stores for me that I walk into and I feel like I just landed on Jupiter. Oblivious to crafting speak, the dialogue of scrapbooking, and the chants of quilting land, I am the aimless wanderer wandering the aisles of unfamiliarity blindly searching for items I know I will find here. (Going on their website before my journey was a huge help) After walking past the realm of custom artwork framing (and two employees discussing their work hours for the week) twice, potential tour guides offering their services was not in my cards for this journey. But I found what I needed and got to a checkout. The cashier wished me luck with my project after I told her what I was attempting to do. I used to shop here all the time and have spent much more money than I'd like to admit on all sorts of craft items and planner accessories, but after my most recent experience they've lost a loyal customer. Customer service has never been their forte, but since there's really no other craft stores in Paso Robles I've chosen to ignore that in the past and just buy what I needed then head on out. Their customer service has only been declining and I felt very unwelcome and judged the last time I visited, the cashier especially treated me and my friend with the most uptight and impolite attitude and actually gave us sarcasm and dirty looks. Not only is their customer service awful but their store is a nightmare as well, nothing in this store is organized or priced and it makes shopping totally frustrating. You're much better off driving to San Luis to shop at Beverly's. read more

CHECK YOUR RECEIPT! Michaels has a beautiful albeit overpriced selection of craft items. Due to high prices, they probably make a nice profit margin. Charging me for items in my online shopping cart that I have not checked out and agreed to pay for, they make a HUGE profit margin. Full price, tax, shipping on an item I was thinking about but did not buy. That was yesterday. In the store today, I bought 2 sheets of expensive craft paper. I checked my receipt and discovered I was charged for 3 sheets. Happily, I was still in the parking lot. I went in the store to show the discrepancy between what I had and what I was charged. I had the clerk count just in case I was wrong. She rang up my refund and started to toss my receipt. No, I'd like that. Oh, ok she says. She then starts to crumple my craft paper to toss. NO! I would like my one sheet that I paid for! Oh, oh yeah, I wasn't even thinking she said. I know everyone has a bad day, this was a very sweet girl. Ordinarily, I wouldn't write a review so negative. But with Michaels, it's always something. I've come in with my phone showing a sale price on an item. They charged me full price. Oh no you don't, I came here for this price. That's what it says online, that's what you'll charge me. They did. Just be very attentive to charges, prices with Michaels. You'll be glad you did. Buy same items on Amazon for less. read more

The selection and organization of the store is always in disarray. My husband and I were standing in line this past week. The friendly cashier called for back up. Another employee came to open her register. Right before she gestured for people to join her line, the manager asked her to wait to open until she checked her schedule. There were 5 people waiting in line. The manager had the employee hold off on helping the customers first. Instead the manager redirected her to stock shelves and left us all standing in line while she stood there and had a conversation with another employee. It appeared to be a power trip and not well tolerated by the people in line. I'd rather drive the extra miles to Hobby Lobby. Don't waste your time here or they will waste yours. read more

As a dedicated crafter, Michael's is usually my go-to place for quality craft supplies. That being said, I will use WalMart to buy crafting supplies that I use for/with children. This particular store is always clean, brightly-lit and well-stocked. However, I cringe at some of the prices sometimes. Additionally, there is not a good selection of counted cross stitch supplies, including fabrics and speciality flosses and threads. There are very few kits, and very few cross stitch pattern books. There is an excellent selection of yarn for crochet or knitting, and this store also has a good selection of frames. read more

I placed an order on their website to do the curbside pick up and everything seemed ok. I made sure the items selected were in stock. I waited and waited for an email confirmation to go pick up my order but nothing. So finally I decided to check my order and unbeknownst to me my order had been cancelled with no prior notice to me. When I called the store I was told my order was cancelled because the items I had ordered where suddenly out of stock. What a load of bull. It's not like I'm ordering toilet paper. It's been some time since I had been in this store as the last time I came in, I was so frustrated, I just left. This time around was better. They do have an impressive selection of craft items and for every level of crafter. Aisles were clean, shelves were organized and I noticed they even had help buttons in certain aisles that suggested if you pushed the button, someone would come help you. I didn't try it but it looks like it would definitely come in handy since it's difficult to track employees down in such a large store. The front end still seems cluttered to me and when there are long lines, it creates congestion in an area filled with displays. read more

Trying to get something framed and the staff is incompetent. They could explain the coupon and how it was calculated to get my total and then when I paid the receipt didn't print and they said they couldn't reprint for 48 hours. So I am supposed to pay $271 for a custom frame item and not walk out with a receipt for that expense or my painting? I don't think so. They have to refund the transaction and recharge me just to give me a receipt. It's a mind numbing process that is taking forever and they had to call two different managers to figure things out. The company needs to train the Paso Robles employees on customer service. After asking for help, employee 1 pointed me to a product and said employee 2 could answer questions. Employee 1 called for employee 2 who would not answer questions but suggested rather than buy products have the work done professionally. Then employee 1 suggested looking up info on Internet. Always a great place to go for any craft/diy supplies. Their "normal" prices can be a little much but they almost always have sales and coupons for at least 40% off one regular priced item. I just had my last bad experience in the Framing Department at the Paso Robles store. It took 10 days to cut the matte for a picture. Upon returning with the art and frame I was totally ignored by both women working in that department. When I was finally acknowledged I was told it would be done today. I had driven from the coast to Paso Robles because I was told the matte was ready. After a bit of bantering back and forth Linda tells me to go shop for an hour and it will be done. I cruise the store for nearly and hour and cannot find the items I need for several other projects....Really. I come back thinking the matte should be done by now only to be told by Linda that there had been a call and the caller was more important than the customer in front of her. It will get done soon. I wander to another store. I return Linda has left for the day her shift is over she leaves the art with someone else to complete. 2 hours and 10 time is up. So No matte for me today I will not use this store again. read more

I am reviewing their framing department. I recently brought two art prints in for framing. The staff was helpful and friendly. Unfortunately, when I got them home, I realized I'd really made a big mistake on one print....it just didn't look good, due to my choice of colors. My bad, since I chose the frame and mat, right? I called them to ask how much it would cost to put in a different mat. The lady was very sympathetic and said she would try to get me the discount I'd come in with, since it would technically still be the same order. Again, they did not have to honor this, as the mistake was mine. She said she would contact the manager and get back to me. So an hour or so later, she calls me back and says the manager said to do the re-matting FOR FREE, because it was very important to them that I be happy with their work. Free! I cannot believe it. It may be a little thing for them to do, but they just earned a loyal customer for life. I will be taking all my art there for framing from now on. Customer service like this is a rare thing in this day and age. read more
