Service is okay. Inventory is poor, and prices are high. Internet orders seem to be their priority now. Absolutely no batik fabrics.

Really bad customer service. I walked in last Thursday morning and 2 employees, both very close to the front door, neither even bothered to look up. I spent about 5 minutes in the shop and made a conscious decision to shop somewhere else where the employees are engaged and don't ignore customers. I have shopped in this store many times in the past, always make a point to pull off 101 when traveling. I mentioned this bizarre encounter to someone else in town, in the same industry, and they said 'that's the norm, too busy with internet orders to deal with customers'. Too busy to say hi?? Yuck read more

Small shop but stunning selection of woven and knit fabrics. The items they stock are unique and timeless. If you are looking for pop culture or trendy, this is not your destination but if you looking for amazing quality and vintage looking fabrics to create quilts or apparel, you must make a stop here! The owner and staff are so warm and inviting that it's a little like stepping into a neighbors house for a quick chat! I have been in a few times and am always looking forward to the next time I can return! read more

Fabricworm - Fabric Stores Near Me - Paso Robles, California

Really cute fabric store in Paso Robles! The aesthetic is modern and whimsical. They carry a selection of designers such as Alexander Henry and Michael Miller as well as their own brand of local organic cotton. Most fabrics were $11/yard and the Birch organic cotton was $17/yard. I found several adorable fabrics. This is the brick and mortar store of the online site Fabricworm. All the workers inside were really friendly. I was asked three times if I needed help! But not in an annoying overbearing manner. They keep it casual. They have good weekend hours as well. Parking is on the street or in the side lots, as it is in most of downtown Paso Robles. read more

Always stop here when passing through. The people working are always friendly and willing to help. A great selection of unique fabrics.

Good thing I don't live close by... I'd have to have one of everything. Delightful patterns in a delightful store!

The store is actually closed. We went by today and their sign says that they're only accepting online orders.

Beautiful fabrics in a huge variety, but HORRIBLE customer service. I walked in past two employees who were at the cutting counters. I said "good morning" and was greeted with silence. I proceeded to walk around the shop, with a pattern in my hand, obviously looking for fabrics and was completely ignored the entire time I was in there. The only interaction was one of the girls saying "have a nice day" as I left. So disappointed, as I was ready to purchase all of the fabrics for a big quilt, but I didn't feel right giving my business to people who didn't care to have it. There were at least 4 employees in the store and I was the only customer. read more

Great fabric store. They have garment fabric not just quilting fabric. They have their own line of unique fabric that is high quality. Great customer service too. Love their online fabricworm.com which has great weekly specials. read more

Must stop when in town if you like to sew. The fabrics are unique and so cute. Great fabrics especially for kids decor. Love it!

I just walked out of this store with both my mother and grandmother who are quilters. I am an interior designer and although I do not quilt, I love fabrics. I love quilts too, but I have a hard time because I have a modern aesthetic. Well we hit the jack pot in modern quilts FINALLY!! It's a beautiful store with lots to offer even if you are not modern, which neither are my mom and grandma. They both love the store as well. In fact they have visited it a few times. It was great to learn they manufacturer their own line of organic fabrics, which I love that fact and I love to buy local! I will definitely bring my sister here when she visits! Regarding the staff, there were three young girls all super friendly, helpful and professional. read more

I got teary-eyed when I walked in... after shopping on their online store(fabricworm) in the past, I wanted to stop by on my drive from SF to SD over the holiday. It was AMAZING, all the modern fabrics you dream of, huge selection! It is dangerous to have a store like that too close to home, I would spend way too much. Love it! read more

My husband and I just left this gem of a store, with a sack full of great finds. The quality of material is fabulous. The selection is delicious and the store clean, crisp and roomy. No pressure sales, but help was offered and done with a warm friendly demeanor. I will definitely check out their web-site for future buys, as we live quite a distance away. read more

Fabricworm - Here is part of my stash! Diamonds aren't this girl's best friend!! - Fabric Stores Near Me - Paso Robles, California

Etsy sewing wonderland. Delightful mod fabrics, sewing patterns, quilts, fabric bags. Rather unexpected in Paso. I kind of expect something like this in SF, Silverlake, or Chicago. If you like scooters, deer, or other things mod and you like to sew, Birch is the place to be. Quilters are in heaven here. read more

I make sure to visit this shop every time I'm in Paso (and online when I'm not). They have an incredible selection of high quality fabrics for quilting and other apparel projects. The staff is friendly and helpful and their website is very user friendly. read more

I found this great store on a short visit to Paso Robles. I have never seen so many fantastic fabrics all in one place. Super cute modern cotton prints and stuff from Japan and Australia. They also seem to sell everything online. I was hoping to pick up a bunch of remnants, but they didn't have many. A fun place to visit for inspiration for quilting and other projects! read more

Great store with wide selection of contemporary fabric and unique designs. Very friendly staff. Want to address shipping through their online store, Fabricworm, which I haven't done yet, but one of the other reviewers mentioned: every time I have been in their store, all their cutting tables have bolts of fabric piled up and being cut. They are very busy! But, that's what happens since they produce their own line of fabrics and their buyer also has good taste picking from other producers. So, if you want an order shipped from them, have some patience and plan ahead. read more

On a recent visit to Paso Robles, I discovered Birch Fabrics and what a find! As someone new to quilting, not only did I find fabulous, quality fabrics, but I found a level of customer service that is unparalleled these days. Sally stepped in to consult on my project giving me not only superb tips and tricks but the confidence to do my own hand quilting. She has an incredible amount of experience and is worth the trip in to Birch to discuss all things quilting. Birch will be a regular stop for me on my future trips to the Central Coast! read more

I've been meaning to stop in to this shop for years and finally had the chance yesterday afternoon, 12/30/14. The good: Wonderful selection of unique and special fabrics. Nice variety, including more mainstream fabrics as well. Two large cabinets with tons of sale fabrics (50% off!) The bad: I was in the shop for a total of 45 minutes. I saw two employees: A young man and a young woman. Neither of them acknowledged my presence the entire time I was there. They were socializing with each other, talking about the weather (he used to live in Oregon, I heard) and other things. A couple other customers came in and out during that 45 minutes. I made a point to smile at each employee and make eye contact but they just averted their eyes and ignored me. It got to the point of being awkward and just plain weird. I used to work in a small store and I would have been fired had I not greeted any customer with "Let me know if you need anything" or "Are you looking for anything in particular?" or, at a minimum, "Hello." I didn't buy anything (too bad for them, because I had lots of Christmas money, LOL.) I would have, had anyone said a word to me or even smiled. My impression is that the main purpose of this shop is to run their online business. Their hearts clearly are not in the store itself or their walk-in customers, which they obviously could take or leave. I have no idea if the employees I encountered are shop owners or hired help but customer service is NOT their forte, that's for sure! I won't bother returning. I spend lots of time in Ventura so I'll shop at Superbuzzy instead. read more

LOVE THIS STORE. They do everything perfectly. So many options.. different prints, solids, batiks, etc. Everything needed for your project is available, from start to finish:) read more

I have been in this store a couple of times and had very bad experiences. Each time I was in the store I wasn't greeted and the staff was disinterested and very little help on my sewing projects. They do have pretty fabrics but I don't see any point in going into the store. read more

The good: an incredible selection of fabric, especially for a store with such a small footprint. The prices are reasonable; their proprietary line is pricey, but it is organic. They have incredible discounts on end of bolt cuts/small pieces. They have a charming selection of patterns for both apparel and quilting. The shop is bright and modern. The bad: this seems to serve primarily as the clearinghouse for what appears to be a booming online business. Because of this, staff is usually busy pulling bolts and cutting for online orders. It's not unusual to see huge piles of bolts being stacked for orders, which then takes them out of the running for in-store shoppers. Because their space and inventory are limited, you can't ever assume a fabric will be in stock from one day to the next, as in-store shoppers are "competing" with online shoppers, and it seems the online shoppers have the leg up. They have almost nothing in the way of notions: there are some zippers, a very limited amount of thread, and that's it! I don't even think they have buttons! It's odd to me that they have such a nice selection of apparel patterns, and almost none of the supplies you would need to make a finished garment! Their solution: refer you to Walmart. : (. I understand space is limited, and they can't compete with the pricing of a corporation, but I think it's safe to say that a shopper purchasing nice fabric and $15+ patterns would be willing to spend the money on nice notions. read more

If you are a quilter in particular, or sewer in general, and you find yourself in or near Paso Robles Do Not Miss this store. The physical location of fabricworm.com they open at 9 AM. The staff is friendly and helpful and don't mind at all if you spend most of your time pulling bolts off the $5 clearance shelves. Huge selection of fantastic cottons with a modern slant, but I would think there is something for anyone in stock. read more

Tried to go there today but they were closed for some sort of an event ... disappointed.

I ordered fabric online from Birch Fabrics online store, which is Fabricworm. Since I don't live near the brick and mortar store I am so happy I found the online version. Tons of contemporary fabrics that I love. I just placed my second fat quarter order from them. The first was super fast - I live in Maryland - and the fabric was a very good price, nicely cut, and bundled. I had a question that was answered promptly. A+ in my book! read more

Awesome! Every print and color you could ever want. Great staff too!! I'll be back soon!!

So excited I found this place, gorgeous selection, wonderful knowledgeable young ladies working there. I can't wait to order from Thier online site from down home. This will always be a place I visit when in the area ! read more

Love this store! I'd visited the fabricworm.com site several times and thought I would stop on a road trip from San Diego to Monterey. Rachel (spelling?) was very very helpful. She helped me find bolts based on the fat quarters I picked up, knew the fabric lines I was talking about and patiently cut for me as I was trying to decide which Sherbet Pips I wanted. The imports from Japan were great and they have a good selection of Kokka and Echino. I highly recommend this store to anyone who is interested in sewing, quilting, modern design or just looking for a creative fix. :) read more

I've been in this store a few times, I travel over 100 miles to go and I've been meaning to write a review for months, so here goes. I agree that the staff is busy filling online orders, but from talking with them, that seems to be the heart of the business. With that said, this is the most amazing fabric store! Their fabric speaks for itself! I never leave without dropping some serious cash. I went there with the idea of getting the fabric to make a wedding quilt- the fabrics were beautiful! So many different lines, fresh new fabrics that I would have to go to at least a few quilt shops in order to get the same selection. I love it and stop there every time I'm on my way through that area. It's a must see! read more

Small, cute shop in a charming little downtown. They have their own brand of organic cotton fabrics that have a lovely feel to them. Staff was busy (they also have a mail-order business,) yet appropriately helpful (I had just come in to browse.) Most of the fabrics were not really suited to my taste in terms of color or print, but were modern and high quality. I did find a print with llamas on it that I fell in love with, so did make a purchase. I enjoy visiting different shops, especially when traveling (as was the case here.) They all have their own charm and personality and you never know what you might find. read more

One of the best fabric stores in the area! They have a great selection of fabric and the people that work there are not only super friendly, but they are also helpful, supportive and talented! If you are in Paso Robles you should stop in! read more

The fabrics are wonderful! So different and fun. However, the staff is horrible. I was in this past weekend, picked out a fabric, had it cut and the staff member practically shoved me out the door. I explained to her three times that I was still looking! The young ladies seemed more interested in filling web site orders that in dealing with people in the store! Don't know that I will go back. read more

I've waited almost three months to write this review but when I just now checked their website and saw that the Robert Kaufman yarn-dyed Manchester fabric I bought back in April is STILL overpriced, I feel compelled to speak out. I purchased it in the store for $18 a yard, thinking wow, this is expensive!!! (At their online store it is $17 a yard, or $8.50 for half a yard). I did a little research and found it in other stores and online for $8 - $9 a yard. I wrote to them to let them know they had obviously mis-marked it and at first they said, no, that is the suggested retail price. Then I sent them links to a few other stores that have it marked correctly. They apologized and offered me a gift, next time I come in (one of their scrap bundles or something like that), but no refund. Okay, I swallowed that, live and learn, I won't shop there again.....but I did think they would change the price. But no, it is still listed at $8.50 per half yard. WHAT A RIP OFF!!! Either somebody isn't paying attention or they don't care. And while I'm on the subject....really, you close your store for an hour, in the middle of the day, so all the employees can eat lunch together? How convenient! I think two stars is being kind. read more

I'm lovin Fabricworm/Birch Fabrics. I was kinda scared to order fabric on-line in CA. and me being in Houston, TX., but I figured what the heck it looks like they have an awesome return policy so I had more to gain then lose. I ordered a few Robert Kufman fabrics and loved them all but one, so I decided to return it. They accepted the return & credited my account for the fabric no problem. I placed a second order because the first fabrics were so nice & of such good quality with bright gorgeous colors (and I ran out of fabric for my project) . ONE DAY after I placed my order, the fabric I chose went on sale so I contacted customer service and they extended the sale to my order. Who does that now days? Like no one. They have gained a long time loyal customer :-) AWESOME!!!!!!!! Keep up the good work. read more

After reading some of the nasty reviews I almost did not make the trip. I am so glad I did. This shop is a jewel. The staff greeted me the minute I walked in the door, stopped what they were doing to help me find some cute contrasting fabrics for children's clothes and made my purchases very easy. I do wish items were priced, but the inventory was huge. Fabrics are not cheap but the quality and the fresh patterns are worth it. read more

This shop is so cool! The fabrics are gorgeous. I'm surprised this shop is not on the tour Quilt Shops of the Central Coast, because you are missing a gem if you don't stop here! It is top notch. You can shop online too through fabricworm, but if possible come in and see it in person. They have their own unique designs as well as other designers. I only wish I lived closer! read more

I've only dealt with this store online. I was the winner of a giveaway called "Win Your Dream Sewing Room" on 8/25. Due to some mix-ups in communication between Birch & the company who put on the giveaway, the full amount of the fabric I was told I would receive from Birch wasn't sent. I was told to contact them directly, so I did. Instead of making excuses, they accepted responsibility for the mix-up (which I don't think was their fault) & the fabric I should have received was at my house 2 days after I gave them my address. Their Marketing Manager Andrea provided the best customer service possible, and I wasn't even technically a "customer". I will definitely purchase fabrics from them in the future, and will also tell people about them. Thank you!!! read more

I was really looking forward to going to the brick and mortar store as opposed to just shopping online so I added it on to a trip out to the west coast to see my daughters (Oregon and California). The good news is the fabric choices were excellent; much more interesting and innovative than what you would find in most fabric stores- even the good ones. The bad news is the customer service was abysmal. There were about 4 salespeople (hopefully not the owners?) in the store when I was there and not a single one acknowledged me or asked if I needed any help. I had a number of fabrics that I had decided ahead of time to look for for a new spring/summer collection I was putting together. When I couldn't find several of the fabrics I showed the photos of the fabrics to one of the salespeople and was quickly dismissed with her saying she had never seen them before and couldn't help me (all Birch fabrics by the way; not other designers). She then looked rather frustrated with the fact that I had several bolts out on one of the tables and when I asked her if she would like me to move them she said "Well, not just yet, I'm going on a break" with a surliness that told me she would like nothing more than for me to leave so she could cut her online orders as soon as she got back. Interestingly enough, a friend of one of the employees came in the shop with her young daughter and all the sales people went to the back of the store and chatted it up for about 30 minutes. Clearly these people have the capacity for engaging with others, but maybe their social energy is reserved for those they know? (By the way the friend received a 55% discount.... the salesperson announced this out loud while I paid full price and bought about 15 yards of fabric). I agree with other reviewers that filling online orders is their main focus and perhaps they should put up a sign on the door that says: "Customers enter at your own risk!" If you don't live nearby and you can only purchase online... be happy. You are not missing anything. read more
