Yeah, went into a small sewing shop in Atascadero ca "the rudest town in ca" the yards were $16.99 ea!! For basic prints. $4.25 for a fat Q! And the lady?? So rude didn't talk to me at all I asked if they have quilting classes " I don't need them just trying to get a convo going and make a connection" no was her answer, oh I'm new here and been looking for a good fabric shop! Her answer... your total is 31.85...: ok thanks bye..:: I miss big stores!! They train their workers properly! They are helpful and affordable! There's a reason these lil stores don't survive and my last experience is exactly why!my son seen a quilt in the window he wanted I went online and goind all the fabric and soent over $200 on it, could have went to the if they were nicer! I buy probably $400 in fabric A MONTH could have went to them but they don't want new customers. She was nicer to a woman that was clearly a regular. I've heard from local sewists about how rude the people who work here are, sad so say they live up to their reputation. I went in today looking for a specific tool, I heard two women talking toward the back of the store and neither of them seemed to notice (or perhaps not care) that I was in there. I walked around looking for my tool, listening to one of them tell the other about how she won't respect her son's boundaries but expects her mother-in-law to respect hers (eye roll). I finally approached them to ask if they had what I was looking for; she told me "no" and turned back around to her conversation. Not even a hint of interest in helping me find an alternative or suggestions for where I might be able to find what I needed. Abysmal customer service. I purchased a new sewing machine in Nov '23 and the people here have been so helpful. They helped me set it up and get going. Janome was having a special and it was a very reasonable price. I've always used this shop for thread and material, but have now realized how knowledgable and helpful all the employees can be if you just ask for help! They also offer great classes I hope to start taking soon. read more

Absolutely HORRIBLE !! I have gone into this store MANY times over the last 15 years. EVERY single time has been a miserable experience. No one greets you or says hello. You are left to yourself to find what you need, which is fine, but if you dare ask for help they are flat out rude. They are completely irritated to be taken away from their sewing. Today I was told I was not allowed to touch the quilt batting - I needed to see which thickness was best for my non sewing related project - as it is against CA State law. Ridiculous!! Two weeks ago I stopped in for white cotton thread, which they did not have and no one said a single word, not even hello. A couple of months ago while making a purchase, the woman barely said a word and was visibly irritated. What happened to "Hi, welcome in, let me know if you need anything".... "Thank you for stopping in, have a nice day"... With so many online options, this is a terrible way to run a brick and mortar. I will never stop in again. I recommend a name change. There's nothing FUN about this shop. I highly recommend Quilter's Cupboard, I have been shopping there for 25+ years and they are always happy to see you and help with any questions. And BONUS, you are allowed to touch and feel the materials. They are at the north end of town, they are absolutely lovely and have a much better fabric selection. read more

Today was my first time in this store. I was one of four customers. All customers were smiling and happy. The gray haired lady behind the counter was not friendly, to anyone! She watched everyone very carefully. She did not volunteer to help anyone. personnel = 0. Fabric choices and notions were excellent = 5+. I've read other reviews before I wrote my review. I can give this business one star because of their large inventory. But really, if you are the only customer in the store could the owner/employee greet you in some way? I've lived down the street from this business for over 20 years and it's very convenient to go here on the rare occasion I need fabric or notions. Every. Single. Time. I walk in there I get the Twilight Zone feeling; like I shouldn't be here. Each time I go there I swear I will never return but then time passes and they're so close so I go there. I just received a sewing machine and was so excited to go pick out fabric!!! I had market bags and work shirts dancing in my dreams the night before! I went in and was greeted, when asked if I could use some help, I gleefully explained my situation and mentioned I was looking for some batik print. I was directed to the "sale" cabinet. I can't say the lady was rude but she was very disinterested in helping me find all of the things I might need. I mean, hello!! I'm fresh meat! I went in expecting to spend about $50 and ended up leaving having spent just over $7. The whole experience left me feeling blah about everything. The reviews posted about the staff being dour were sadly very true. I had more questions and would have loved to spend a half hour perusing other fabrics and trim, but she made me feel very unwelcome. read more

I tried to give this shop the benefit of the doubt, but the past 4 times I have been here I have been ignored until I am at the register (found the item I needed BY MYSELF), or as I walked out the door. Today is a good example: I am looking for a nice compact sewing machine, I walk in and look at one I want to "test drive". I am totally ignored by the employees standing 5 feet from me. I came in looking for Minky fabric. I asked where it was and the lady unsmiling at the counter pointed her finger to the back wall. I tried to ask her some questions about it but I got more information from other customers than the sales person. The sales lady was sewing and I had to get her attention just to check out. Honestly, the other customers were nicer than the lady who owns the store. Quilters Cupboard is closer but has less fabric but they are so very nice. read more

I really thought they were snippy with me because I am younger and more inexperienced, but after hearing a good friend say that she avoids this place because of the attitude she gets, I realized, it's really just the general disposition of the store. I understand I am only 22 and I'm not buying hundreds of dollars is stuff, and I always try to be understanding, but when I'm the only person in the store and no one asks me if I want help after 10-15mins it's not exactly good service. I would give more than two stars but their items are pretty expensive too. I am all for small business, and I can handle a few dollars more for pins and fabric, but not when the service is poor. read more

First of all I like how this store is organized. They are separated by color and by vendor. It's so easy to find what you were looking for. I purchase the original amount of grunge for a quilt and didn't have enough. Lynn did research to try to find the same match three weeks after I purchased the first batch. She was very persistent, and even though we couldn't find it we found something similar at the store, and even found 108 inch backing for my quilt. She was very helpful. read more

Unfortunately yelp doesn't provide the option for zero star reviews. The employees, or the owner, or both are completely void of any knowledge of how to treat customers.. or in my case, potential customers. I went in around Halloween looking for some sequined fabric.. I was not greeted when I entered the store, I made a couple passes through the building then made the realization that it was full of quilters fabrics, I asked the associate behind the desk if they carry sequined fabrics, and she responded with a very snippy "No, we never have, and never will carry anything with sequins." Well if she hadn't been such a raging bi-atch to me I probably would have spent $50 or more on other adorable fabrics. read more

What a shame. I'd love to support one of the few local fabric stores left in the area, but the poor customer service here is a deal-breaker. The large older woman with short, blonde curly hair is rude, passive-aggressive, unhelpful, and gossips about other customers. Lovely little shop with a great selection of woven fabrics. The knit selection is a bit light but it does skew a bit more towards quilting. The ladies there were friendly but not overbearing, giving us space to check out the selections available. Also, they have classes on Wed nights! read more

I have found the staff stuffy in the past, but I went there today and the saleslady was cheerful, friendly and very helpful. And the fabric I purchased was gorgeous. Wish they carried fabrics beyond cotton, but quilting fabrics obviously are their best sellers. I still have to drive to SLO or Morro Bay for anything else. read more

Well stocked with supplies needed quickly for alterations or sewing projects. Reasonable prices. Staff is friendly and knowledable. I like that I can look around comfortably and take my time looking for what I need. I love that they carry things for Janome machines, saves me time and shipping.
