My husband and I were walking around downtown and I went into the store. Beautiful quality clothes, little pricier than some places, but in most cases well worth it. They had a few dresses, shorts, different types of pants and yoga outfits. I ended up buying some gorgeous black lightweight pants for travel. They're called Arlie Day Pant. They helped me find exactly what I wanted and a few gift items. I also had a jacket that needed repair, and they told me they would take a look and give me an estimate on the repair. My wife & I were walking around downtown this W/E and I happened to go into MrMichaels and noticed the leather items in the back. I've been looking to replace my 30yr old pig skin bomber jacket and noticed several nice styles. Rachel (owner) came over and explained that the items were just "displays" that they normally make the jacket to measure, but they can shorten the sleeves on a display item it I find one I like. I did. Beautiful leather, lightweight, comfortable cuts and very well made. Service was very good, they were very busy and only one other helper. So my wife & I were able to use the time that Rachel needed to help others to examine the jacket and make our decisions. I highly recommend the shop, Rachel's guidance was excellent. read more

As you chat about where to get the best fruit ice, fish tacos up and down the central coast, you'll be distracted by his beautifully appointed boutique. OMG, my first time in SLO on my mini-moon and I saw a shirt in the window of Mr Michaels, went in and for some reason I did not buy the shirt...SLO In Love, I was planning on going back but I never did. I got home and said I need that shirt, but forgot the Stores name! There's definitely a love/hate line f demarcation among Yelpers with this store. Mark me sown in the positive side of the ledger for two important reasons - 1. Most negative reviews missed the highly visible signs that say "by appointment only" which should have alerted them to the fact that this isn't a typical retail store and 2. there's a good chance that the owner will disregard the appointment rule if you just ask kindly, which is exactly what he did for us. Which is good because his Kuhl collection is broader than any I've seen (and I'm quite a fan of the brand) and some of his leather patch and gift work is quite unique. Super inappropriate customer service. We walked in, the gray haired gentleman stared at us, didn't ask if we needed any help, and then as we were browsing around the left section of the store he snapped at us and said, "uhh guys those are off limits." Oooookay, sorry to be of such inconvenience. He immediately lost my business. What a jerk! This man should not be in customer service to be treating potential paying customers like that. Walked in and was immediately accosted by who I can only assume is the d bag owner. All his jackets look to be of mall quality and only a complete idiot would buy from this place. I asked if the jackets were made in Korea (they were all thin lamb or goatskin) & he took offense. Offered some of his advice for restaurants & attractions and I also declined that, because his snake oil salesman attitude was so transparent. This guy will try to blow so much smoke up your arse regarding leather jackets it is hilarious. BTW the first review appears to be completely written by him, it is the only positive one on his shop. As an example of what garbage he sells & speaks, go to a real leather jacket company like the website for Aero Leathers of Scotland. Note what the linings are, the styles, leather grades, and prices. Then stroll through his poofter boutique and try to withstand his attitude. Guy complained about heavy leathers & their weight, like horseskin. Are you kidding me? While he tries to ask the same prices a cordovan jacket would fetch, gtfo lol. For a positive experience domestically, go no further than Johnson Leathers in SF. Not only is the owner completely knowledgeable about his trade, he is trusted by Japanese retailers and Hollywood directors to produce jackets. Oh yeah, he also does all the leathers for the Bay Area police departments. Doesn't have the pompous attitude like this little SLO boutique, but makes the jackets in house while warrantying the work also. If you want a jacket out of a top quality Horween leather made to fit, try Johnson's. If you want a cute little Wilson's Leathers jacket rebranded from overseas & sold with a bundle of lies, try Mr Michaels! read more

The rudest store I've ever encountered. Ever. Every question I asked was greeted with a huff and a grudging response. I was reminded of that scene with the snooty Maître d' in Ferris Bueller's Day Off. I truly can not imagine how this place stays in business. Their prices seem high for the quality of leather on display. They will make custom jackets, but the idea of working with these people gives me the shudders. Rather than deal with them, I will make the trek to Solvang and the lovely leather shop there. read more

By appointment only. The owner is a real craftsman. He can take one look at you and find the exact outfit that will fit like a glove and look great. The leather is of high quality and it is cut so that the apparel drapes in the most flattering way. Worth the investment. read more

I would not normally rate a business so poorly but I have never been treated so rudely. My wife and I were visiting from out of town and exploring all of the shops in SLO when we noticed all of the Kuhl gear in this store so we decided to stop in. We looked at the clothes and I noticed some nice leather crafts displayed as well. Who I assume to be Michael got upset at me for touching a leather tray (even though everything was out on display and there weren't any signs that said not to touch) and even though I apologized he told me that being sorry can't pay for "$200 of damage" and basically just told us to leave.. My wife and I were stunned at the rude response and just left. He lost us as potential customers and I wouldn't recommend anyone shop here until their costumer service gets fixed. read more

He orders items for you based on your preferences and seemed to know what I'd be interested in. We discussed a few items I might want and he's going to ship to me on the east coast - didn't even want payment until I've received them and decided to keep them. Must be a money laundering business. We went to the store TWICE , on a Wednesday and a Thursday; both in mid afternoon and both times the store was locked up!! No sign, " back in 10 minutes"; just locked up. When I asked a neighboring shop when "Mr Michael" opened, I was told he works by appointment only!! Looked great from the street. We walked in to buy a couple tshirts and the employee immediately went to grouchy-town and demanded that we not touch any of his precious piles of shirts. He insisted that they were all pre-sold even tho they were still out on display. He honestly could not push us out of the store fast enough. I have never been so affected by a business persons attitude (in a positive or negative way) as I was today... Treating people so wrong is not a good business strategy. Wow!!! What a great experience. I recently lost my mother and was in town taking care of her estate, and just happened to catch Mr Michaels at his store. I stopped in to inquire about a fur coat that she had with the Mr Michaels Label on it. The coat was purchased 30 years ago. He not only agreed to help sell the coat..
