Half the time you get people that dont like working here and it shows in their customer service. My last 3-4 visits have been regrettable. Maybe Aaron Bros or Hobby Lobby would like my business, considering they're each within 2 miles. I get it, I've worked customer facing jobs. I like to shop at this Michaels because it has a good selection of high quality products. However, what really sealed my loyalty was my amazing experience at this Michaels today. My family was planning a 4th of July dessert this week but no store in a 20mile radius seemed to have any star shaped cookie cutters. As a last resort, the family sent me to try to find some and sure enough the manager at this Michaels saved the day! I looked up star cookie cutters on the Michaels general website but was struggling to navigate it so I called while I was on my way to this store and the manager answered the phone right away which was a good sign. When I asked if they had any of a certain large star cookie cutter or similar, the manager personally went to check the aisles herself and found an even better product with many high quality different sized star cookie cutters including large ones for an even better price than I was looking at! Long story short, we made lovely star shaped desserts and had a wonderful evening. The only thing I would have wanted to go differently was that I wish I was able to catch her name and properly thank her before I left, but she was in high demand at the store and was running around. I had a coupon and was excited to pick out my next model car to build. When I went to their model car section, I discovered that it had shrunk in size. They usually have a big selection with planes, cars, trucks, tanks, and rockets. There were only a few models on the shelf. Most everything was gone and all of the rockets were gone. The remaining models were all in the wrong places with the wrong prices. It wasn't worth my time to search and read the small print of the tags and barcodes to figure out what the actual prices were. I'm honestly disappointed with the staff here at Michaels. It just seems like they really can't answer any questions. For instance, I was browsing in paper crafting near the Cuttlebug embossing machine when I asked an employee if they had any embossing folders. She looked at me like she had no idea what I'm talking about so I explained what it was and pointed to the embossing machine they were selling thinking it could trigger her to remember. Anyway long story short- she had no idea what I was talking about and instead of asking for assistance she just said she doesn't know. I said never mind and walked away. Although I was disappointed what brought greater disappointment was when I was purchasing Copic markers. I noticed there were two different kinds, copic sketch and copic Caio. I asked the store manager the difference between the two and his response was "Copic Caio markers you cannot refill. Copic sketch markers you can refill" I thought that was strange but trusted he knew what he was talking about. I got home and did my own research, come to find out both are refillable and he difference is the amount of colors! These are not cheap markers and it's sad the employees and managers provide dumb founded answers and in reality have no idea what they are talking about about. Some of people working here must really hate their job and despise people in general. That is the very impression I got from two of them. The woman at the register acted as tho applying the 25% discount they advertise was an imposition. She very begrudgingly applied it after I showed her the text I received. The man answering the phone had the same crappy attitude when I asked what their return policy is. He just flatly responded "you can find it on the receipt ". (Which I could not. No mention of returns at all on the receipt). The women at the front who greets everyone as they come into the store was very cheerful but the nice stops there. It's no wonder there are never any customers in the store. Also, their prices are ridiculously high! Much much higher than everyone else. Michaels never fails and neither had this location. I usually come with a list of things I need or just an idea of what I want and it's always there waiting for me. Recently we came for jarred Christmas candles and to our surprise they were on sale! 2 for $9 peeps! That's a great deal. This store always has a great selection of flowers, arts and crafts, framing and more. You can do spect to find exactly what you want. Employees are very helpful and treat you with respect. The store is very clean as well. There's a huge lot out front and never an issue finding a place to park. My advice: download the Michaels app and select the store you are visiting. I've been doing arts and crafts pretty much my entire life so it's safe to say that I find myself at Michael's quite often - well after visiting two Michael's locations today, that is definitely going to change!!! Over the years, I've noticed that the customer service at this company has tarnished. And during my recent visit to the Oceanside Michael's - I can now say that the customer service at this store is non existent. When I was checking out, I thought she rang up too many items so I asked the cashier (Alexis) to count them. I had 9. She proceeded to count them herself and then looked at the receipt in the register and said it matched up. As I was walking out of the store, sure enough, there was an extra item on my receipt. When I went back to the same cashier to tell her that she made a mistake, she sent me all the way back to the end of the line and said I had to wait my turn! WTF!! This is the definition of poor customer service. The line was 11 people deep and needless to say, I was fuming. On the way out, I ran into the assistant manager Karen and told her what happened and it was as if was talking to a brick wall. She DIDN'T even apologize for the inconvenience and just said that they were doing the best they can. Well, I'm sorry Ms. Assistant Manager, your best is just not good enough. GO TO ANOTHER MICHAEL'S! Sorry, customer service hasn't improved AT ALL. This was my second return after 1 HUGE nightmare at Michael's. This last one was the last straw. 15 people on line, 2 cashiers and the manager standing 4 feet away, did absolutely nothing. After several complaints from customers 2 people finally just put their items down and walked out. The manager completely disregarded pleas to add more cashiers. 30 min's later I finally made it to the register AND guess what? The phone rings and the cashier is REQUIRED to answer it!! That phone call became more important than my sale!!! WHAT? AND .. have you seen the mountains of sales receipt paper Michael's shoves at you? Receipt - Refund - promotions - returns - comments and various other garbage. NO PAPER SHORTAGE at Michael's. When I pointed the amount of paper to the cashier ... she responded .. NEXT IN LINE! I could tell she was stressed and had no room for my comments. 2 weeks before the line fiasco my husband and I had the joy of experiencing the impatient crazy woman in the photo, or framing department. We've never purchased a custom frame from Michael's before and after this, NEVER EVER WILL. The women was rude beyond words. While asking her questions she became impatient and annoyed rushing us into buying a custom frame before we had all the information. She's either on drugs or severely stressed. With a manager like that, I can see why all the employees are nutty stressed. She's slovenly, useless and obviously doesn't give a hoot about the customers.. I'm DONE! First let me say that I'm a guy, so consider my writeup here from that perspective. This store is built for women, run by women, and serves women almost exclusively, and so, as a man, I go when my wife drags me there, or to buy something she'll like. It's not right high up on my list of places to visit just for the fun of it, if you get my drift. First off, it's crowded, like your maiden aunt's living room. They like to put merchandise in aisle-center displays, so that you have you have to squeeze sideways to get by. I get around this by using the aisles at the very perimeter of the store, effectively bypassing all the traffic that jams up through the center. They seem well-stocked, but I hate that the only man-themed stuff there - model kits and rocketry - has been severely downsized and shoved to the very, very back of the store. Customer service at this store has been spotty. The registers are mostly staffed by apathetic teens or twennysomethings with ginormous ear plugs who may or may not notice that you're human as they soullessly pass you through their checkstands. I have actually been able to check out of this store without uttering a single word to the checkout girl, getting a word from her, or even making eye contact. After a while, it became a game! To give you an idea of just how much humanity is lacking here: On one occasion I was there with my son and he was frightfully thirsty, and there are Coke machines in the employee break room by the restrooms, so I asked a nearby clerk if it was OK for me to go in and purchase one. It was a courtesy on my part; it's an employee area of the store even though it's easily accessible to passers-by, and I could have just walked in, dropped in my coins and walked out with a soda. But I asked. I never dreamed that the clerk would say "no." "I'm sorry?" I said, assuming I'd heard wrong. "No," she repeated. I asked, with all the civility I could muster, why not. "Those are there for the employees," she returned. I observed that I was only intending to buy one can of soda, not clean out the entire machine, but she was unmoved. Granted, that's extreme. But it sure soured me on this location (and I was none too happy with it to begin with). Things seem to have gotten better in recent months, but their customer service is still pretty lacking - I've gotten more cordiality from an IRS agent. On the bright side, they run ads with 40%-off coupons in them nearly every week, so you can get the stuff you want for much cheaper than usual. You just have to time it right. On the whole, I'd rather not go here. But if I have to, I make it as quick as possible. read more

Ah, Michael's...well seeing as I can't think of another store that has the variety or crafty stuff they do you're essentially forced to go here when you need anything that differs slightly from the norm. I came here looking for banner paper that I could use to write a homecoming sign for my man who's returning from deployment soon! Yay! So I called in first to make sure they carried it because this isn't exactly close to where I was coming from and there were other michael's stores I could've gone to. After being transferred by the first person what I got was a rude woman on the phone who said, "what do you need?" And "yes we have it, isle 39." And promptly hung up. Felt very rushed and like I was bothersome to her. I had asked if they carried white banner paper. I'm saying this because it becomes important in about...three seconds. Well, I got there and low and behold, no white banner paper in isle 39. Shocked right? Not. However, Michael was one of the employees who I located and he happened to salvage this mishap and apologized for my inconvenience and showed me where the large tip paint style sharpie pens were. I ended up with red banner paper and using a white marker- very American so it's all good. The apology goes along way but I still have some qualms with Michael's in general: I feel they are overpriced ($4 for some damn stickers?!) and usually very understaffed just from my experience. Like I said, I'm sure I'll be back because there really isn't another crafty store out there but it's frustrating that they don't do a better job with customers. They're never fully stocked but wiffey and I seem to spend a lot of time here. It's our favorite Michael's in the area and we look up their current coupons on our iPhones while we are in line. I don't think we have ever not saved just by looking it up. So it's worth it when you have a 20% off option. Oh and I have now forgot my spray paint at the counter 3 times. So don't forget. Wow, has this place changed in the last year! I work a few days a week in Carlsbad and usedcome to this store when I got off work, but stopped when the it started to really come down in quality of service and appearance. After having a few rotten experiences at the Michael's near my house in Encinitas (something I will write in another review later), I came back to here to pick up a few things for a start of the year project for my older daughter's school. Anyway, a year ago this place was dismal. No one seemed happy, the place was dirty, and no one was really all that helpful. A few times I would ask for help in finding something and the person would wander off never to be heard from again or be told just to call the online help line. Now, it's bright, they fixed the hectic front end of the store to something a bit more customer friendly, things seem ALOT more organized, and the people seem a bit more willing to go that extra mile to take care of you. Which, by the way, Joe ... thank you so much for your help. Not only did I get almost everything, but the paints I was looking for that you guys didn't have, were exactly where you said they would be somewhere else. So, whatever this Michael's location is doing to come back from the brink ... KEEP IT UP! And I will definitely be back again until the Encinitas store fixes they're obvious management problems. read more

When I went up to the register, I asked Claire if they could tell me if there was another location with the same color. They took the time to help me out and check all the nearby locations. There was a cashier named "Becca" working at 3pm today who checked me out and was completely rude and UNHELPFUL. She wasn't helping me put my membership on my purchase and after asking several times for help she would just mumble "it's not working. sorry." and stare at her screen. Working with customer service, I understand that employees don't know everything but that is when you courteously tell the customer that you'll get management for help and sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. My main gripe: customer service issues at checkout. Although I typically find myself in a long line at any one of these stores, the checkout experience here is almost on par with a visit to the DMV. To be fair, there are a few people who are great (kudos to you; I wish I knew your names), but overall, there seems to be a lack of support, supervision, tact and urgency that consistently makes for a negative final impression. Typical scenario: I'm in a long line wondering why there seems to be no one else to support the two cashiers who miserably bellow, "Next!" instead of nicely saying "I can help the next customer." By the time I get halfway to the front of the line, the creative buzz I had when I found some new shinies has died, and I ditch half the stuff in my basket on top of the overpriced gummy bears I've been fighting the urge to buy. I double-check that I have my printed coupon because I can never retrieve the one on my phone app (maybe that's just my cell service), and then I go back to kicking myself for forgetting what a time suck this place is. When it's finally my turn to answer the classy call of "Next!" I wonder again why this seems to be the norm here. If I'm paying cash, (and this is true at just about every retail establishment), the change is handed to me with coins on top so I get to spend another minute sorting that at the next unmanned register so I don't add to the hold-up. I've been on the other side of the register and know that we all have bad days, but management could teach their employees how to at least put on a shit-eating grin and pretend they give a crap, insist that they politely beckon us to the registers, and step up support for the inevitable long lines. Yeah, that was a bit of a rant, and there are certainly more important things in life (and maybe I should just get a life), but I hope I've at least helped some of you save some precious minutes of your own. read more

Oh Michael's How I adore thee!!! Anytime I am feeling crafty and creative this place has a lot of items for me to gather! The store seems a little disorganized at times maybe having signs on the outside of the aisle would help from having to go down every aisle to find what you are looking for. Military discount is on Wednesdays which is a plus! No one ever greets you here or asks to assist but for the most part I always know what I am looking for when I arrive I just have to go on my scavenger hunt throughout the store :) read more

This Michael's has a wide selection of everything arts, crafts, and all things awesome, but it's not as neat and tidy as I remember it being a few years back. I like that the check out area has been redone, much more organized than the structure of cashier stands that once were, if only the employees manning it were made-over to be as nice. They're sort of just...there. Not as vibrant and enthusiastic as I would picture Michael's associates being. Getting help on the floor can be difficult. (And don't try asking them to check for back stock or if another location carries a specific item) The sales can be grrrrreat if you know they're in progress. I'm not a teacher or master-crafter, so I'm not here often and if I AM in the store during a sale, it's by complete luck. Id like to learn more about the classes that they provide for kiddos. As you walk in through the automatic doors, the classroom is immediately to the right. There are typically signs promoting different kinds of classes right as you enter the store. A BIRTHDAY PARTY at Michael's sounds cools to me! 3 stars because I always leave the store with something in hand, which I think is a testament to, again, the variety of items sold here. I'm a fan of Michaels and a huge of their awesome coupons! I've been to alot of Michaels at different locations and this one isn't as well stocked as other stores. Maybe they are always sold out because of how busy it is? There's not many staff members that walk around to answer your questions. YOu need to go around circles searching for one to help you and when you ask a question, they kind of just point and say around there. Not sure if they are lazy or just don't care or all the above. While I do find some of the things I need, it can definitely be better staffed and alot more neat! Other Michaels are far bigger with artificial plants, boxes, and they manage to keep it well organized/neat as busy as they get. This is located in a busy shopping center next to Ulta and restaurants. I gave it a 3 star because Wednesdays, they give military an additional 10% discount on top of it all just fyi! read more

Almost laughable... if I hadn't wasted 45 minutes... I took a 25x24 inch framed print in to get the glass replaced... After 25 minutes of computer problems I was quoted $250.00!!! It's kind of like IKEA or Disneyland in that you'll intend to visit for just an instant and then get lost wandering out hours later wondering where all the time went. Michaels has nearly everything you could need for any crafting project or homework diorama assignment. I always stop in to pick up art notebooks and drawing supplies which they have an excellent supply of. But they carry more than drawing stuff, every hobby you can imagine is represented on their shelves. It's simple a great store. read more

So very disappointed in Michael's employee/ manager Julie. After spending alot of money over the course of 4 visits in 2 weeks, last night I was back, spending yet again. I fogot to use my $10 gift card, that I earned last week. So today, with receipt in hand, I went back to Michael's. Julie told me I need to come back to the store, with my entire purchase, for my $10!! Since most of my order was picture frames and Christmas decorations, tags have been removed, and already in use. I am so deeply upset by this since I love this Michael's and shop here often - I even have my art teacher discount here. As soon as Mickey started coughing she should have been excused from the line or given an actual mask since she was not wearing proper protection as she was still able to cough into her bare hand as she did. Sat night was a nightmare at Vista Way Michaels. It was dark out, I cashed out and walked to my car and my clicker would not work. My car would not start. I was alone. I went to call my husband and realized I did not have my phone on me. I went back inside Michaels to ask for help. I was told they could (would) not help me. I explained I had no phone, my car was not starting & the alarm was constantly going off in the parking lot. I asked if she could call security for me. "We do not do that." I asked if they could call AAA or the police. "We just don't do that." I was scared and started to cry. I asked if I could use their phone so I could call my husband. I was stranded. "We don't do that", the Michaels cashier told me. I explained I was desperate. I asked her what I should do. She suggested to me that I go to one of the neighboring restaurants for help. I told her I didn't spend my money in their restaurant. I spent my money here at Michaels. Over $100 in beads. Another Michaels customer overheard our conversation.She asked me what kind of car I had & then finished checking out & began to leave the store. I was humiliated & I humbled myself to ask this Michaels customer if I could use her phone to call my husband. She called him for me.He came. We called AAA & my car towed out of the parking lot. While we were waiting for the tow truck I went back inside Michaels & asked to speak with the manager. I explained very emotionally what happened & asked why Michaels wouldn't help me. It was explained to me it was a miscommunication & he said sorry. That's it!!! He didn't ask for my name or number. Nothing. I was shocked! How was this miscommunication?? I explained through tears that;I was alone. I had no phone on me.It was dark outside and was scared.This was an emergency,My car alarm was going off continuously. I visited Michaels today to buy quite a few things for a baby shower that I'm giving. Of course I did some browsing in other areas. I saw a great craft lamp light that I could really use. The price of the lamp was $29.99. I thought I would do a comparison price so I did a price comparison on Amazon. The Amazon price was $16.99. Then I choose another light thinking that this had to be some sort of a mistake. The Michaels price was $49.99 and the Amazon price was $29.99. Wow! That is a huge difference in price. Michaels is double the price. I like to support local businesses but I really can't afford to when the difference in the price is so substantial. Michaels gives out coupons but the coupon brings the price down to what items should actually be priced at. read more

Really dropped the ball at this store, placed 2 orders, one order was ready, they said other order would not be ready untill next morning at 10am. So I showed up at 11:30am the following day, and they said the order was not ready and had not even been pulled to be processed. The lady I spoke to said no one should have given me a estimated time. Management really needs to get their employees on the same page, instead of being lost in confusion. And then to give me attitude, when I'm the one that wasted time and gas is beyond me.
