Absolutely love and cherish this game store. I've been playing D&D here for the last two years, and originally met the group I play with weekly at this store. Everyone is inviting, friendly, and genuinely kind. They have a great selection of TTRPG, board games, and general game merchandise, the staff is kind, and the patrons are real enthusiasts and enjoy teaching you new games. Also, they regularly host different games and events. read more

I'd say this is the best board game store in the San Diego / Vista area due to its very large and varied collection. My drive is 30-60 minutes to get here, depending on traffic so it's nice knowing I could easily spend an hour, sometimes more, browsing through the games. Staff here have always been friendly in my experience. I also appreciate how organized the store feels. Awesome place!! read more

Not very welcoming to new members pretty close off unreceptive and rude. I live locally and just wanted to come in and get to know the community asked us questions and I was not well received and not allowed to come back. read more

Extremely helpful and knowledgeable staff - helped us pick out a couple new fun games.

Great place to get MTG singles. Their bulk is out for anyone to go through and the prices are fair.

Pair A Dice is a shop for anyone and everyone who loves board games! A nice selection to choose from. Magic the Gathering, Warhammer AND they even host tabletop tournaments. Lorcana fan? They have those too. The store is clean and well organized. The staff is friendly and helpful in assisting you find what you're looking for. Pricing is reasonable and you get great quality products. So if you're in the area go. Heck them out. And then afterwards head on over to In N Out for a burger read more

Came here to look for something, they didn't have in stock just yet. Employees were very friendly and helpful with questions. I had a lot of questions and both employees genuinely seemed to want to help answer. I'm a big fan to support small businesses as long as they keep reasonable prices (but remember they have to compete with large chains). Look forward to coming back. read more

Pair A Dice Games - 2 new games to take home with us. - Hobby Shops Near Me - Vista, California

I have visited this store two times and it was a bit awkward. First time we did get there late to closing and so they were trying to just get us out. Understanding. But we came a second time looking for Heroclix specifically as we had called earlier on the phone and was told they have. But once in the store we were told they don't, that they can see something in the system that says it but has no price. They didn't bother to check the back and pretty much was unwilling to help as he said he has no idea what it is. Cool place but from what they mentioned seems they prefer their regulars. read more

Kurt was the absolute man. Made the wedding event a blast. I had no idea how to gamble but he made it a blast!!

This place is trouble!! Pair A Dice is my favorite place to buy games by far! They have an amazing selection but if they don't have what you want they'll order it. Everyone's helpful, knowledgeable and nice there as well. It's hard for me to escape without a stack of games in my hands read more

nice big game room, staff are enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the games. In addition to scheduled events anyone can play free in their game room. It's usually a mix of Warhammer, MtG, board games, and an rpg group or two read more

Staff were super friendly! Went to this shop looking for a game. They went so far as to recommend a game and sit down to play with my girlfriend and I! I had a pleasant conversation with the staff about magic the gathering cards as well, and got to look at their personal collections. Will revisit again if I'm in san diego :) read more

I came in here looking for a simple game for my niece and nephew and came across bananagrams. The staff and customers thought it would be a great game and even suggested other fun board games like settlers of catan. The atmosphere of this place was so friendly. Pair a dice games has soo many options! Games I've never heard of before. I'm sure the more experience board gamer would love this place! I'm glad I ran into this gaming shop and will definitely coming back to pick some fun games. read more

I always recommend Pair A Dice Games..... In 2011 we started A Great San Diego Chess Meetup, which now operates every Wednesday 6pm at Bushfire Kitchen, Del Mar outside. And in our first year I wanted to raffle off a triple weighted Chess Set. The owner stepped up and became a sponsor. I have been promoting them every since! Good people deserve our support! Can't recommend this store enough. Amazing communication and listens to consumer feedback. Very helpful and friendly. Great selection and also help with looking up items that may not be on the shelf. Five stars!! read more

The cashier was smug, not helpful for people who are new to the community. Really great location and potential. Surprised with the attitude and overall unwillingness to assist customers with knowledge and excitement for their products. Great place for magic and other ttrpgs. Great and friendly staff that's willing to help people

A great place to get the board/card game you want, and the guys working there are really helpful and friendly and make you feel welcome. I'm really going to miss this place when I move. read more

One staff was awkward, rude and made us uncomfortable , it was the guy with long greasy hair who was making rude comments to my boyfriend and complaining about us having to pay with cash. Its unfortunate because they have a big selection, but the staff here is nothing compared to Kingslayer and the amazing staff there. read more

Man, this place is wonderful! Of all the game stores I have visited (and I have visited many stores in multiple states), Pair A Dice Games features probably the most extensive collection of games I have seen. I could just stare at the shelves for hours and be intrigued. The service was also outstanding, as they expressed a willingness to find what I was seeking. Having said that, like many stores, the prices are at retail. I do try (when I can) to support local game stores, so paying retail isn't a huge concern for me (but I mention this just to set expectations). All in all, I wish that I lived closer to this store because I know I'd spend a lot of time there! read more

Went in here hoping to find a nice puzzle to do. Walked out with banana grams and spot it and one puzzle. Wish they had a larger selection of puzzles but they were low on stock at the time. Very helpful and engaging workers! read more

Very chill environment. Andrew up front is very polite and made my first visit very welcoming.

Best selection south of LA. Staff is always friendly to help with finding a game. Whether you know what you're looking for or for recommendations. Decent selection of demo games as well. That's how they sold me on two games! There's parking in the front that's shared with an in-n-out. So it can be awkward. But there's also parking in the rear. Dog friendly, as long as you either carry your dog or have a stroller. Large playing area that they have weekly game nights. But always room for demo play as well. Play area isn't too strict on food or drink, which is smart because there's also a Lil' Ceasar in the same plaza. Obviously it's being courteous with games and not dirtying them. They also sell drinks behind the counter just in case you're in a long game and don't want to leave. Prices are like any other FLGS. But it's more of the experience and the availability that they provide than the actual pricing. Happy gaming! read more

Really cool & helpful team. We need to support small specialty shops like this before they're pushed out by nix box stores.

As an MTG player looking for singles and getting helpful ideas in making commander decks, these guys are great. You can even look up cards on their website before heading over and they have a rewards program. They're even open 7 days a week. read more

I just started playing magic the gathering. My son told me about this store and we went. I was amazed by the selection and knowledge of the employees and the costumers also have a wealth of knowledge. Tuesday night command play is fun and exciting. I will come to pair a dice games for all my gaming needs. They have it all there and it's great for beginners to learn about the different games that are not behind a TV and have interactions with other people. It is possible to go in for one item and start talking about games for hours. Anyone who is thinking about playing any type of board games or card games should stop by and see what they have. You will not regret coming in. read more

Great selection, helpful staff. Ive been a half-dozen times and am always satisfied. When I had trouble finding a game, there was always a member of the staff who was able to help me find the product i wanted and explained the organization so I could help myself later read more

This place is okay at best - twice now Ive gone in to buy some single MTG cards and had someone online purchase a card out from under me, even though I had requested to purchase the card before the online transaction had been made. I know this as a fact because staff have gone to ring me up and informed me that the card had ~just~ been purchased (wtf bro, you can't cancel the transaction and give it to the guy who clearly had priority?). Definitely a bit annoying to say the least... I think what really does it though is their price mark-up. I understand having to stay afloat in a market that competes with online retail, but this shop's msrp markup is ATROCIOUS. Down the street, quite literally, you can pick-up a box of the new MTG Wilds of Eldraine set boosters for $120, that same product will cost you $175 at this store. And it's consistent across the board - all booster packs, and generally single cards, are consistently $2-3 more than Kingslayer in Oceanside. The WOE Commander decks are $20 more than Kingslayer or Target (instead of spending $60 on a commander precon at this place I went over to the Target across the freeway and spent $40 for the same deck lol). I want to support my local small businesses, but not when it costs me 30% more than the big box retailer. The only edge this place has on the aforementioned competitor store (Kingslayer) is inventory for both MTG singles and sealed product. Kingslayer still has a great selection of both, just not quite as much. I honestly dont think Ill be spending anymore money here and Ill just go over to Kingslayer, or buy singles Im looking for off the internet if Kingslayer doesnt have them. Lastly, the guys who run Kingslayer are normal and easy to talk to; however, the people at this store are uncomfortable and awkward at best, and obnoxious at worst. Ive had some incredibly uncomfortable attempts at conversation with Pair-a-Dice's staff. They really need some coaching on social interactions because sheesh, it's cringe. read more

Great place to find a new game. The staff is awesome and is there to help you. There is plenty of room to play your favorite D&D, Star Wars Legion, Warhammer, Magic, or even traditional games. The clerks at Pair A Dice were very friendly and helpful. They were quite knowledgeable on their board games ranging from gothic horror board games like Eldritch Horror to war fantasy figures. The selection in the store beats out every shop I've been to in San Diego and what they don't have they're upfront about when they will receive products. I drove all the way from downtown and it was worth the trip read more

My husband and I have had nothing but good experiences here. We prefer to buy from them even though we could buy games cheaper online because they will talk you through game play, offer recommendations based on other games you like, and are always very nice and helpful. We want a place like Pair A Dice to stick around for the community! My husband is signed up for the rewards program and gets their emails which he says offers specials and deals regularly. We haven't gotten into any of the in-store gaming, but it's nice to know it's there and there's always at least a few people there. P. S. This store isn't only for hardcore gamers. They will also help you find a fun game for your niece or nephew, or a family game night. read more

Pair A Dice Games - Baby's first time at the game store - Hobby Shops Near Me - Vista, California

This place has been on my radar since I got to San Diego, but I found the drive daunting, so I was waiting until I had a reason to head up to check it out. Fortunately, they were hosting Free RPG Day this year, which I wouldn't miss for the world. Location aside, this store is absolutely amazing. I walked in and just knew right away that I was in the right place. It might have something to do with the 1st Edition AD&D books high above the checkout counter, or maybe it was the fact that the staff actually seemed interested in talking to people and providing customer service. Most game stores treat their customers the way heroin dealers treat customers they don't particularly like, so being greeted with a smile is strange enough--but to be greeted with a smile while being given free stuff? Madness! (Okay, so I don't actually know any heroin dealers. At least that I know of. Maybe they're very nice people. You get my point.) I had to ask if the 1st Ed books were trophies or sale items, and they are apparently the owner's private collection, which he just likes to show off. But they have huge shelves full of used game books, which you almost never see anymore. Those shelves included several 1st Ed books, lots of 2e including Skills & Powers if you can believe that, old V:tM and M:tA, even 1st & 2nd Ed Shadowrun--including, but not limited to, a sealed copy of Downtown Militarized Zone. I mean ... zounds! Additionally, the store has a loyalty club, which provides gift certificates at reasonable spending/promotional intervals. This is cool in and of itself, but most notably because I've never even heard of such a thing at a game store. I love the idea. Finally, there's a decently sized play space, and from some of the conversations I had with my fellow FRPGD attendees, it's commonly used by a group of gamers known as the "Fantatical Gamers Society," which despite their name are reportedly a fairly laidback sort, big on community and having fun. This place is awesome. I won't claim that I'll be taking the 45-minute trek from downtown SD on a regular basis, but I'll certainly use any jaunt to the north as an excuse to stop in. Highly recommended. read more
